Does anyone know if these are shipping yet?

I saw one last week at a dealer in NJ, so they exist.

2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.

My wife and I drove a Touring out of Simi Valley, CA last weekend and we also noticed a wind noise starting about 25mph, coming from the front somewhere. Wind sound with a slight whistling at somewhat higher speeds. We're going to go back when the color we may want is avalable to view, and drive another to check for wind noise.

We assumed it was a problem with just that one van, but perhaps there's an early production problem that Honda needs to work out.
  • grayghostgrayghost Member Posts: 23
The assumption is not correct. There have been about three Navigation system redesigns since the 2000 Navigation system. They are entirely different systems (databases, hardware, software...).
The clock is not part of the NAV display. It is now located on dash above and to the right the center vents.

I've read the 2005 Acura RL has real-time traffic information integrated into the Navigation display. Does the Odyssey Navi have the same system as the RL? Any traffic information at all?
  • sciencemanscienceman Member Posts: 80
    Has anyone seen the Navi yet ? My question is that is it very easy to use...;

According to the November issue of Consumer Reports, in their review of the Accura TSX:

"The touch-screen navigation system used in Acura and Honda vehicles is the easiest to use and most comprehensive."

That has made me consider including the system in my purchase.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
that Honda and Acura navigation systems were always the easiest to use among all the navigation systems including those from Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, Toyota, Lexus and Nissan/Infiniti.

Like the Honda, EXL, Wife liked the Lexus feel of Sienna. Touring was too rough a ride especially for her.

XLE Package with AWD @ Invoice for 33,000
Includes leather trimmed seats, DVD rear entertainment system, 2 wireless headphones and DVD navigation system, rear seat audio, second and third row side sunshades, JBL Synthesis AM/FM stereo, CD player, cassette player, 10 speakers, 2 wireless headphones and DVD rear entertainment system, heated front seats, front side airbags and front, rear, and third row curtain airbags.

Tough choice but three important factors.

    1. Honda salesmen suck. They are so arrogant, and the last one said 500 over MSRP, cause they didn't have any coming in. They he tried to trash the Sienna, and say the Odyssey was so superior. Well I reminded him, we took our time and test drove several vehicles and in our opinion the Toyota was more reliable, (Honda problems with wind Noise and transmissions),which he denied, then I nailed him on Major Transmission recall!. Sienna was more luxurious, and better stereo, and had AWD, and Odyssey did not.
    2. Pricing-Got Sienna @ Invoice-much better deal than Odyssey @ MSRP.
    3. Felt Sienna with AWD option and Toyota salesman was too much to turn down, but deciding factor was my wife preferred the driving and the looks better.
    Gotta keep her happy.

We went back and forth, but discovered the new Odyssey and new Sienna, as well as the new Chrysler, and Quests all are good vans, with the Sienna and Odyssey the top two.

When we were leaving the Honda Dealership, the manager now wanted to make a deal, and offered us 500.00 below MSRP. I said hold on, called my Toyota Salesman cell phone, and he assured me he would let us have it @ Invoice with $ 99.00 Dollar Processing fee.

Told Honda Sales Manager, thanks but no thanks. He also wouldn’t budge from his $ 399.00 dealer processing fee.

Of course when I got home, several hours later, there was a voice mail from Honda saying $ 99 Dealer fee, and $ 750.00 off.

Morale to this story, is take your time. Be prepared to walk away, test drive several vehicles, and use one against the other. It took over a month to get the prices down on Sienna and several weeks for Honda. It can be done, remember, negotiate, negotiate, walk away, then negotiate. If more people would not rush out and buy the new Odyssey, and more people refuse to pay the sticker price, prices would come down.

We looked at an 05 Ody last weekend and spoke with the salesman a few times. He kept saying that they will be at MSRP for years, just like when the last model came out. We had a call from him today saying that 'although we don't often do this, but because things are a bit slow' they could maybe knock a bit off the price.

Seems like the 'at or above MSRP' game isn't going as well as they had expected. That's good for all of us!!

Congratulations awdman on you XLE-AWD purchase.
Was this 2005 Model? also what package #??

I am torn between LE for its low price and one automatic door and EX-L (gotta have VCM if I go with Honda)

One thing about the Sienna is the silky smooth engine. It really is Lexus like.
  • fsmmcsifsmmcsi Member Posts: 792
It seems that quite a few of us have driven the vans and noticed the noise. I wonder if Honda will issue a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin)? As it stands now, I would not buy the van due to the noise.
  • cericceric Member Posts: 1,092
I've read the 2005 Acura RL has real-time traffic information integrated into the Navigation display. Does the Odyssey Navi have the same system as the RL? Any traffic information at all?

No, the version in Odyssey does not support Real Time Traffic. The traffic information is still at its infancy in RL. The Real-Time Traffic is supported through XM radio. Therefore, the XM is a prerequisite. As it stands now, the traffic info is displayed but the traffic problems have not been factored into the route calculation automatically. Things could get even better. Also, only 20 major cities provide real time traffic information at the end of the year.

This has been asked, but nobody has offered a firm answer.

    Q. -- DOES THE 2005 ODYSSEY HAVE AUXILIARY AUDIO IN-PORTS?

Whether in the face of the dash, under the dash, behind the dash or in the glove box, does the audio system have auxillary audio input ports? The Honda Element has always had them in the glove box. The '05 Odyssey has some sort of ports in the THIRD ROW. I want to hook up my iPod and take my entire music collection with me -- accessible from the driver's seat.

CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE READ THEIR OWNER'S MANUAL? Surely this is mentioned somewhere. I'd read mine, but it's stuck somewhere between AL and OK.

    TIA
  • hifisoftwarehifisoftware Member Posts: 69
How fast do you usually need to go to hear this noise. 50mph? Does anyone has Odyssey that does not seem to have this abnormal noise?

I was planing to look at Odyssey this week, but now I am not so sure. At 40k (Touring/NAV with taxes, license and stuff), this is really crappy.

I guess I would need to make sure that I drive it on freeway before deciding or anything.
  • fsmmcsifsmmcsi Member Posts: 792
Yet another person who has the wind noise! Too bad they bought it before a repair from Honda - I hope that you will post once (or if) your wife's frind gets the noise fixed.

Better Handling = Better Safety, that is, better ability to avoid wrecks.

One way to improve the handling of the Sienna would be better tires - something like the Goodrich G-force T/A KDWS (see somebody like discount tire direct for prices and sizes).

I prefer the Honda interior, except that the steering column does not telescope, a feature the Senna has. $500 over invoice is the right price. If the Honda dealers want to function as unpaid Toyota salesmen, that is their choice.
  • sciencemanscienceman Member Posts: 80
I agree. I've been told by two dealers now to wait a month or so and they will be able to deal more. I've been watching the inventory lists published online by dealers, and the dealers I'm looking at still have most of their vans in the inventory.
  • seattle007seattle007 Member Posts: 3
Huey Honda in St. Louis just got their first shipment in. They have 2-3 in a variety of colors.
  • lakeratlakerat Member Posts: 17
HAS ANYONE SEEN AN 05 ODY IN EITHER SLATE GREEN METALLIC OR OCEAN MIST METALLIC? ALL THE HONDA DEALERS IN MY AREA(CENTRAL GA.)HAVE IS SAGE BRUSH PEARL,MIDNIGHT BLUE PEAL OR SILVER PEARL METALLIC. I HOPE THAT HONDA FOR 2006 ONCE AGAIN MAKES THE EX-L WITH NAVIGATION ONLY AND DOES NOT MAKE IT MANDATORY THAT YOU BUY THE RES ALSO TO GET NAVIGATION LIKE THEY DID FOR THIS YEAR. AFTER ALL A LOT OF SENIORS BUY ODYSSEYS AND WE DONT HAVE OUR GRANDCHILDREN WITH US CONSTANTLY TO MAKE USE OF THE RES TO MAKE IT WORTHWHILE BUYING THIS OPTIONAL FEATURE .

Typing with all CAPS is considered "shouting" on the forums. It is also a bit harder to read.
  • 65times65times Member Posts: 20
We have not experienced any wind noise with our EXL-RES, we have had it since 9/22. We do have a couple of rattles from the RES system which appears to be poorly secured to the headliner. It is very annoying however, the dealer is committed to fix it.
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
"He kept saying that they will be at MSRP for years"

I would have said to him, "Are you dreaming?
It's almost 2005, not 1999 when there were no competition! I like the new Ody, but like a lot of people, I could live with a Sienna at $4K off MSRP too."

I predict the prices will drop to $2,000 below MSRP in 3 months.
  • majordadmajordad Member Posts: 43
Has anyone seen an EXL-RES/NAV in the Baltimore area? Or a touring for that matter? I know I like the new RES. It looks good and fits the vehicle perfectly. However, I don't want to purchase this model without seeing if the NAV is worth the additional $2K. I've visited several dealers in the area and they are only now starting to get an inventory of EXL-RES. Most of them have the NAVs on order but they're already spoken for. I've seen in this forum where opinions are pretty biased for and against the additional cost of the NAV. From someone who has one, is the NAV on the 05 really as good as its being touted?
  • lakeratlakerat Member Posts: 17
Im sorry about the typing in all CAPS. being new to the forum I did not know. Believe me it wont happen again. I see now your point that all caps is more difficult to read.
  • rorrrorr Member Posts: 3,630
Don't sweat the all CAPS thing; hope to see you around for awhile.

I haven't seen the Ocean Mist myself although that is the one color I'm most interested in. My wife and I had pretty much decided on the Sienna before the new Ody hit the scene and we wanted a light blue (Blue Mirage Metallic in Toyospeak). I've driven the new Ody and was very impressed. I think they are both terrific vehicles and each has features which trump the other.

I think you may be out of luck regarding the availability of NAV without getting the RES. I'm fairly certain that Toyota does the same thing in the Sienna; you can get DVD or DVD w/ NAV, but not NAV by itself.
  • jimxojimxo Member Posts: 423
You heard me right only if your willing to wait 8-12 weeks and drive to Arkansas to get it.
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
I think it's going to be in the Dallas/OKC areas too because most of us just aren't that stupid to pay anywhere close to MSRP like Honda thinks.
  • sciencemanscienceman Member Posts: 80
Another reason I suspect dealers are not so ready to deal on the '05 is because a lot them still have quite a few '04 Odysseys sitting on their lots.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
Plus they have leftover 2004 Honda Pilots they need to move.
  • birdmoorebirdmoore Member Posts: 6
slate green is a new odyssey color for 2005
  • revitrevit Member Posts: 476
You can predict all you want, but like the previous Odyssey, it will continue for the next couple of years to sell at retail. Demand far exceeds supply.
  • lumbarlumbar Member Posts: 421
Sure. It will continue to sell at retail for the next couple of years and standard side bags on the '05 Odyssey prove Honda is more committed to safety than Toyota. :) Anything else?
  • revitrevit Member Posts: 476
    I agree with you.
  • amykkbcamykkbc Member Posts: 57
Yep, hot selling, very hot selling...
and you'll have only 9 brand new 05 odys left on your lot when the 2007's are arriving 2 years later.
  • hifisoftwarehifisoftware Member Posts: 69
Aren't they already being sold under MSRP?

Here in LA (where prices seems to be higher) dealers agree to sell Touring with NAV for MSRP, yet they do not have them in stock. For these that are in stock I am pretty sure I can go under MSRP already?

There were also many messages stating that number of people have bought this van for under MSRP with dealer names and such... (not in LA though :-( )

Take a look into Prices paid thread.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
demand isn't as high as it was in 1999. Few factors:
    They're producing more for 2005
The Toyota Sienna is a tougher competitor than it was in 1999
The Chrysler vans have Stow N Go

All that should make for a retail selling price early on, but I think it'll cool down quicker than it did last time around. (I still bought my 2002 at near MSRP)
  • acguyacguy Member Posts: 3
Does anyone know where on the web I can find the voice command list? I wanted to print off a list of the commands and laminate them to keep in the van until I can remember them all. I'm doing the same thing with the XM radio channel guide [too many channels to remember].

Thanks for your help in advance.

A few questions directed at owners of the '05 (I have a "02)

    1) Does the Lady Susan rotate when you open the small door (versus the whole access panel)? Went to look at one of the first units to enter Canada (Montréal) and was very surprised of not being able to rotate it. If it, doesn't, then Susan is very lazy... It is much more cumbersome to pull on the whole panel...

    2) Touring ride comfort: Is it "better" (whatever that means for you, it is so subjective) or worse than the '02?

    3) Touring torque steer: is this real?

Have been following the thread for well over six months...

    Thanks.

I was googling info about 2005 Odyssey and it showed this message:
Honda Odyssey 2005+ - Town Hall... $500 over invoice is the right price. ... They have 2-3 in a variety of colors. #1077 of 1077 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY COLORS by lakerat Oct 08, 2004 (12:49 am). ...
    townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.ef3513c - 28k - Oct 7, 2004 - Cached - Similar pages

The time frame of this mesage puts it at message# 1094 which has disappeared. Does anyone know where message 1094 disappeared to? Thanks.

Any sales pitch would be removed by the host.
  • cericceric Member Posts: 1,092
to replace my BMW540iA. I mentioned about new Odyssey. He is selling Sienna at $400 to $700 over invoice for 2005 models. He mentioned several customers come back to him after seeing and test-driving Odysseys unimpressed. Of course, that is just a Toyota salesguy's side of the story. At MSRP, Odyssey is not such a good deal compared with Sienna at near invoice. Waiting a couple months, you would see the prices reach a realistic supply/demand balance.

I have bought a new Ody every year ever since the second generation came out (1999)trading in the 1year old model for a new model and have used the same dealership every time and the same salesman except for one time. This dealership has always treated me like I was a fleet buyer and not a buyer of 1 car a year. they have always taken me at the appointed time and have done everything that I have asked of them. If they made a mistake that inconvenienced me they more than made up for it eg.I ordered a new tail light for my 2004 Ody. when I went in at the appointed time to get it fixed they told me they forgot to order it. They told me they would call me when the part came in and that they would not charge me for the part (over $100) but only for labor. on another occasion I was there having a warranty problem with the water pump and timing belt fixed. At closing time I was informed that the service was not completed but the service tech agreed to stay late and complete the repair because he and his manager knew I needed the car to go on vacation early the next day. There have been times that I have not been charged for routine service work (oil changes and fluid checks) What Im driving at in this post is Id like to know if others can relate to my experiences with their Honda service depts. I only hope that their sales dept comes off MSRP like I have paid for the last 7 years (I bought an 05 from them also) The dealership is a very small dealership in central Ga.

Stop the Toyota/Lexus commercials! Should the price of the Odyssey be invoice to $1000 over in 6 months? Yes, but this no different than the Sienna when it came out and was selling for MSRP. The Toyota is a strong competitor, but is no Lexus when it comes to interior although the Limited is priced like one. Lexus has had their share of Auto transmission problems. When we see all the comparos between the Sienna and Odyssey, we will see which van is picked more often.

We need balance. Although Honda sales pitches aren't good, we sure don't need the Toyota/Lexus pitches either.
  • revitrevit Member Posts: 476
Of course you can get a Toyota Sienna for less as it has less standard equipment; particularly safety features such as side curtain air bags.

You get what you pay for.
  • revitrevit Member Posts: 476
of course the Toyota Sienna is basically a Lexus RX330 in Van form

Oh my, now I have heard everything and makes you wonder if people really know what they are buying.

Correction:The Toyota Sienna is basically a Camry in van form, far from a Lexus since the Sienna is based on the Camry underpinnings.

Kind of scary...so I guess the Toyota Corolla is basically a Lexus GX470 in car form?
  • indy93indy93 Member Posts: 97
    Try to get it right.

    civic - TSX , RSX
    accord - TL
    odyssey - Pilot - MDX

    corolla - ?
    camry - ES330 (SE drivetrain)
    highlander - RX330
    4 runner - GX 470
    sienna - ?
    landcrusier - LX470

For the uneducated these are called cross platforms

Oh! sharing drive trains is quite common
    as well.

Don't go off without some background.
  • engenlowengenlow Member Posts: 10
ok, had my 05 for 2 weeks.
The VSA light won't go off (Vehicle Stability Assist)
ABS and Brake light warnings also come and go.
Strange wind noise around 20 MPH
A scraping sound as I start out, under 15 MPH (someone else posted about this)
If I roll down a back window without a front window, I get a strange thumping sound. VERY annoying, the salesman said, "Oh yeah, just like the Pilot." Oh Yeah??!!??
No coin holder, I saw it in the brochure....
Do the doors automatically lock when you put the car in gear or as you start out? My old Ford Windstar did.
Getting out of the car: When I pull on the drivers door handle, the door doesn't open, I have to unlock the car first. Is there a cure?

I'm thinking about getting a subwoofer and wood trim (dash and window packages) put on my new Odyssey. I've got an EXL.

    1. Has anyone gotten a subwoofer installed - does it make the stereo system sound any better or should I just replace the speakers?

    2. I'd like to get the wood trim installed but have gotten conflicting info - is it press on laminate or is it a solid piece installed in place of the factory trim? Has anyone seen pictures of it installed on the web (or better yet to email me)? Does it look nice or "too much"? I'd like to dress it up a little (I'm used to driving a Lexus and since Lexus isn't planning on introducing a minivan anytime soon, I'm trying to make the transition as easy as possible :)!
  • hifisoftwarehifisoftware Member Posts: 69
siruvalure, no you can't have no leather and RES. I though about getting cloth seats too. Then I saw 05 Odyssey. Leather seats seems to be much thicker then cloth one (and thus I assumed more comfortable). In my view if you go with cloth van a Toyota might be a better option. It's more flexible in options there (again in my opinion only).

Another option is to install Honda RES system on cloth van.
  • hifisoftwarehifisoftware Member Posts: 69
interesting info. makes me want to really test drive before buying....

Not sure about the rest but ABS might always come up (depending on the car) in the beginning (few seconds after turning ignition on). This is to indicate that ABS is being checked. If it's comes and goes try to video tape it and bring this to the dealer.

I believe that it's normal to get annoying thumping (very powerful at moderate to high speed) if you only open one window. I get it in my Accord for instance. This is why I was really surprised that Honda did not designed third row windows to be openable like in Sienna.

I am planing to buy Ody eventually, can you tell me where does "Strange wind noise around 20 MPH" comes from and is it loud and obvious or can you barely hear it? I'd like to know what to look for.
