Is there a button to turn VSA on and off? If so, VSA is probably turned off and the car is letting you know.
ABS and Brake light warnings also come and go.
Do they come and go while driving or just on start up? If the former have it checked. If the latter, it seems like the normal idiot light checks.
Strange wind noise around 20 MPH
Is it perhaps an airflow characteristic? I know other vehicles make wind noises at certain speeds.
A scraping sound as I start out, under 15 MPH (someone else posted about this)
ABS self check?
If I roll down a back window without a front window, I get a strange thumping sound. VERY annoying, the salesman said, "Oh yeah, just like the Pilot." Oh Yeah??!!??
Air flowing into the vehicle with no where to go. It gets trapped in the rear. Happens on many vehicles.
No coin holder, I saw it in the brochure....
Too bad - it's a nice feature in my 00 although there isn't anyplace for dollar coins. Maybe an EZ Pass will solve some of tha issue.
Do the doors automatically lock when you put the car in gear or as you start out? My old Ford Windstar did.
Doesn't the Touring have this? It's a feature many people disagree over. IMHO, I should control the door locks.
Getting out of the car: When I pull on the drivers door handle, the door doesn't open, I have to unlock the car first. Is there a cure?
That's a Ford thing. No cure - you have to manually unlock the doors. IMHO, I don't think it's a problem.
577 of 577 Sienna # 1 by hondaok Oct 09, 2004 (11:00 pm)
Sienna with Lexus quality, engine and transmission.
Odyssey with Transmission recall, not as reliable.
So your statement of we only wanted people who are trying to help people really says you only are open to others who share your identical view.
Funny thing is, for many people not liking the Honda Odyssey or thinking it is superior, they spend more time here on the Honda forum than the Toyota or Lexus forum ...hmmmmmm, isn't that interesting.
So how are the new wheels?
Sounds like a great deal--hope you enjoy it.
Also, we found that Sage Brush Pearl (dark green) really looked charcoal-like at the dealership, with nowhere near the green tint depicted in the brochure (we liked the color in the brochure). Anyone else notice this?
Last, how long does it take to get an Odyssey if you order it?
Thanks.
Regarding the coin holders, albeit they are not convenient, they can be found on the front of the center console.
And you can write all you want, but the Ody is really not ALL THAT.
In Norman, Oklahoma, Fowler owns both Toyota and Honda. There were three '05 Odysseys and only one Sienna. So looks to me like the Sienna has higher demands.
Yeah, revit thinks the Ody is God's gift to minivan drivers:-)
Yeah, he might even think the Ody will sell for MSRP for the next 4 years while the Sienna is being sold for $3K off MSRP because the Ody is lightyears ahead of the Sienna and the Sienna's Laser cruise will never lock on:-)
Absolutely yes!
Let's see, should I buy a Sienna for $3K off? Or no, I should buy an Ody for MSRP!
Let's face it, the new Ody is STILL just as UGLY as any minivan out there.
Hopefully the 2007 BMW Minivan will look exactly like the X5 SUV, except is 202" long and 78" wide:-)
Really?
So if I get a Sienna Limited for $4K off MSRP, am I getting LESS standard features?
Give me a break!
The MSRP of a Toyota Limited is MORE than a Honda Touring.
But right now, I'm being offered $4K off MSRP for a Limited Sienna, which does not have LESS standard features.
Oh, and I'm not buying either one since they are both UGLY.
I'm waiting for the 2007 BMW Minivan, which hopefully will look like the X5 SUV.
And the Ody is basically an Accord in van form!
You are right. For one thing, the new Camry Solara does have a gated shifter, and so does the Sienna.
The Accord has the regular straight-line shifter, and so does the Ody.
Of course, there are other similarities, but I just mentioned one.
Thank you very much!
The Ody is very nice and luxurious compared to the Sienna and other minivans, but it's not WAY WAY ABOVE them all.
Glad to see you getting $2K off MSRP. Good for you not listening to people like revit, who would like everyone to believe that you MUST pay MSRP for any ODY since it's God's gift to all.
Acura would be a better bet to get one of the JDM wagon/vans (like the Japanese Odyssey).
Of course, a few years ago, who would have thought that Porsche would make an SUV?
Also, the Sienna bases with less standard safety equipment, since it is all available in a package (although I'm not sure if the Limited has it standard, I never looked at that model). At least for CE -> XLE, you need to add the safety package to get a reasonable comparison point.
2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
Drove the 05 Ody today and it is impressive and the torque steer was hardly eminent as from my 03. Now of course our Toyota Sienna fans are ripping up the Ody about MSRP (or close there to) being the rule, for now. I must remind my Toyota friends that the beloved Sienna was not too long ago in that category of close to MSRP with some exceptions as with the new Ody. My neighbor was so up for the Sienna he only got $750 off MSRP.
Soon we will see stories of edmunds faithful getting the new Ody closer down toward invoice when supply catches up.
Look for the Ody to be featured on Motorweek this weekend.
The Sienna XLE Ltd. has essentially everything as standard equipment. The only packages are Package #1 which gives you NAV+RES or package #2 which gives you RES only.
Of course, as always, floor mats are an extra cost accesory....8^(
To correct your statement, I indicated that the Odyssey has nearly always sold at MSRP as demand has always exceeded supply. This may or may not be the case for the Toyota Sienna, but I suspect this will continue on for the new Honda Odyssey.
As for the Odyssey, it received a 10 out of 10 in value rating and was summarized with the following:
Mainstream minivan buyers might be turned off by Odyssey's firm ride, budget-minded interior materials, and daunting array of buttons and switches. Otherwise, this is a class benchmark for its near-perfect blend of carlike road manners and minivan room and versatility.
Some of us we be very happy if Acura took the Ody and turned it into something beautiful---something that looks like a beautiful SUV, but has all that interior space and sliding doors of a minivan.
The same goes for Lexus.
Heck, I'll even settle for Lincoln and you know that's pretty desperate!
But Acura would be my #1 choice, followed by Lexus.
I just think SOMEBODY needs to make a minivan that is not UGLY like a minivan!
Making a statement that the Ody will be selling at MSRP for the next two years is naïve.
I'm sure Toyota and some other sales people are just as guilty. When the Sienna came out, those sales people also thought it would sell at MSRP for the next two years. What a joke.
It's really a big laugh to know that it's only been less than a month, and the Ody is already selling for $2K UNDER MSRP in some places. And that's a correct statement.
If I were to pick a minivan today, it would be the Ody.
But I still think it's just as ugly as the Sienna, and the VCM and ANC are NO BIG DEAL.
Bottom line: Don't pay MSRP for anything like some of these sales people are hoping!!!!!
I didn't even look at any other brands. Only Honda and Toyota have good resale value.
From reading about Sienna expiriences I have realized that when traveling more then 100 miles from home, you gotta have the spare. That is unless I look for a wonderful adventure of waiting few days for the replacement tire to arrive.
Do dealers have a list of "approved" spare tires that can be used in Touring?
I would imagine that "approved" tire must:
a. fit into this space
b. can be used normally as a spare without breaking pressure monitoring system.
c. will not void warranty if used
I think we can all agree they are the two best Vans.
I have been hearing a little more about the Ford Freestyle, not a Van but a crossover, so the choices are tough.
Not quite ready to buy. But the Odyssey is still a little pricey for me, I think it might drop around the Holidays.
Since I would like AWD, drive up to NY a lot,
I might go with the Sienna because it has AWD, but that's me, not for everyone.
Please tell me you are kidding.
I feel the Pilot would run circles around it.
I believe everyone will eventurally and physically see and touch the van before they place their order.
To find out just pop out the spare tire case to see what's inside. Is that simple?
Did anyone found if there is a spare that can be used in Touring? It seems to me that spare is a must for PAX system. With regular tire you can almost always find some place that will take care (fix or replace) of flat. With PAX you can easily be forced to wait maybe a week. Getting strangled in different city waiting for the Honda to order PAX tire is not my idea of "touring".
I accepted PAX system, but I always assumed that at least I would have the spare.
What kind of coupling does pressure monitoring system has (probably electrical with sensor in the wheel tube?)? Will it short if regular wheel is installed?
And lastly if I replace PAX tire with the spare, what can I do with the deflated PAX tire? Will it fit in the left side wall? I do not want to just throw it away. They are bit too expensive for that.
I guess I could test it, but "ughhh" I would need to remove this tire (I've read it somewhat heavy). Raise it pretty high into the store area, make sure that it fits. Put it back on and the re balance that tire. I am 6'6 but it still does not sound like fun :-(
Somebody told me that Toyota has spare tire bolted to the bottom (is that correct?). Now I understand the advantage of it. Why didn't Honda do the same...?
Power to the people!
In closing, I would suggest that your profanity is not appropriate and goes against the policy of this forum. I can tell you that I sure don't see that need to be making statements like cause their days of raping their customers is coming to an end. is definitely unacceptable.
Now I ask you, who should we be ignoring? Thought so....GO HONDA!!! Once again, the Honda Odyssey, the benchmark by which all other minivans are judged.
Point is Honda makes it simple and does not force the customer to compromise on safety. As many consumers will likely do who put safety first in a minivan, my friend left the Toyota dealership and bought a Honda Odyssey...with STANDARD SIDE AIRBAGS. Sorry, but when it comes to a minivan it is for a family and it involves safety....why can't Toyota understand this?
Rich
Unbelievable?
Until Honda start to offer them standard on the 2005 Ody, it was the same with every other minivan. No minivan offered standard side airbags.
Plus, there are still many people which either believe that side curtain airbags are not that safe - and can actually be dangerous (it was many posts in the Sienna board about that topic), or people who don't use the van for children - or other passengers - at all. Those people are very happy they can save about 700 bucks without the side airbags.
Revit, I would also agree with others here and ask you to control yourself. You may be excited about your new Ody by which "all minivans are judged", but keep it cool. don't get overheated.
If you know, the new Ody has been ready to be released more than a year ago, even before the new Sienna was released. But when the new Sienna appeared - and all minivans were judged by the Sienna - Honda got back to the drawing table, and tried very hard to compete with the Sienna every single detail, and beat them with many others.
As you know, Honda succeeded with some things and losed on others. Engine (power and mileage), handling (of course!), easy way to store 3rd row in the floor, big NAV and RES are a few pluses. OTOH, Sienna wins with quietness (without ANC), smooth ride, better 8-passenger seating (Ody's is a joke - a big joke of a small seat), hiding the sliding door tracks, HID lamps and laser cruise and some other minor stuff.
Chrysler minivans is still the benchmark in seating configuration on which other minivans are judges. Even (Biased?) Consumer Reports (October) stated that the new Honda will not have the flexible seating of the Chrysler minivans.
Heck, even the Ford Freestar has some nice features not found in other vans, like keypad entry, baby sleeping mode lights; and some good ideas has been copied from Ford - as the conversation mirror.
I was sure that Odyssey will beat Sienna in most respects, since the Ody had the Sienna to do their homework (Sienna was the benchmark!) - Now I'm sure next time the Sienna will be refreshed or redesigned it will beat the Ody. You shouldn't be surprised.
With regard to your friend, it appears that he was fortunate to be shopping an 05 Odyssey since Honda was a year behind Sienna on this safety feature that you seem to feel is so important. As far as your claim that he could not find a Sienna with side bags, I guess we'll have to take that at face value and realize that it's the end of the model year. I repeat--Edmund's lists them as a "typically equipped option," something you don't seem to want to acknowledge.
I apologize to others for beating this horse to death, and I'll stop now--but your arguments on this issue make little sense to me. And you keep repeating them.
Point is Honda makes it simple and does not force the customer to compromise on safety. As many consumers will likely do who put safety first in a minivan, my friend left the Toyota dealership and bought a Honda Odyssey...with STANDARD SIDE AIRBAGS. >> Paid $1K under MSRP + $99 Processing Fee. \
Rich, where in Oklahoma? I've ordered my EX-L RES/NAV from Don Carlton Honda in Tulsa, but not for $1k under. Where'd you buy? I may try to order where you bought.

Many parts are common between Odyssey, Pilot, MDX, and upcoming pickup.
Sienna is a Lexus? RX330 is a Toyota? Who cares. They are all Toyotas.
Odyssey is a Acura? MDX is a Honda? Who cares. They are all Hondas.
