I was about to say the same thing!
There are two Honda dealers about 15 minutes from my house. One has 4 Odys (Touring, EX-L, EX, LX), and the other had 5 Odys (Touring w/NAV, Touring, EX-L, EX, LX), and none have been sold as far as I can tell and it has been 1 week.
In contrast, both the Toyota dealers here only have one Sienna per dealer--both are LE.
As for the mileage numbers shown, as noted earlier they are from the EPA not Honda. Also, keep in mind that driving style, temperature, engine temp, engine load, and type of fuel (winter vs summer) all affect fuel economy. The EPA fuel economy numbers listed are not some sort of standard to be met by the driver - they are the result of a standardized scientific test which allows you to compare results with other vehicles.
Going to another dealer tommorrow to get my Accord brakes fixed for the fourth time.
I want to see if they have an '05 in midnight blue pearl. Not a big fan of blue cars but saw a lexus SUV with a dark blue and looked nice.
Plus, I want the dark interior and is not available in many exterior colors.
I would like to see actual vans with Ocean Mist (light blue) and Slate Green (light green). By any chance have you seen those colors?
I just read some reliable info that even in December allocation for Touring is like this:
"Touring 6%
Touring with RES/NAVI 4%"
Well this is a very small number. Definetly not enough to sustain PAX service/retailers. Who would ever buy a specialized equipment to deal with PAX tires if Honda is selling so few?
I think one of two things will happen:
a. Honda rapidly ramps up Touring production allowing PAX to survive and lowering van's price.
b. Honda keeps Touring production low and PAX dies due to the luck of customers...
Anyway this production number was just over the top for me. Forcing PAX if you want Touring, removing spare, and finally low level of production and I am feed up with Honda for now.
I do not want to get Sienna ether because in some ways I like Ody more. And I really do not need van all that much now. I will get something, but probably next year.
This forum is about the Odyssey period, like or dislike. It's not called "I Love My Odyssey" forum!
I think a lot of people are still trying to decide which minivan to buy, so they are checking out all forums and discussing pros & cons.
For example, if I were to buy an minivan today, it would definitely be the Ody w/NAV+RES.
But at the same time, I just wanted to voice my opinion on how disappointed I think the Ody looks COMPARED to my great expectations.
I think the NAV & RES are absolutely awesome, though.
I just don't think they are selling like hotcakes like some people thought.
Maybe the Ody supplies are A LOT more than the Siennas when they first debuted.
Just get the EX-L w/NAV+RES, save $4K to buy a couple of 42" EDTVs--one for the living room, and one for bedroom:-)
According to the quick start guide, it is a feature that is available (not just on touring) but the instructions on how to set it up (even though it is not in the tourning marked seciton) do require tourning features.
So, The EX-L apparently does not auto lock the doors as this feature is set to off and there is no way (that actually works on the EX-L) to set that feature to NOT off.
They do (on my EX-L) auto-relock if you unlock the door with a remote and don't open a door after a short while - this period is suppost to be configurable but again, the configuration is not actually available.
In my opinion, Please BE SURE to use your child locks or ALWAYS remember to lock the doors manually when leaving with Children in the Odyssey - the side airbags will help in a collision, but the doors may still be unlocked and the kids may open them or they may come open in a wreck and the kids fall right throught the airbags and be ejected - unless you paid the money for a touring and gave up the 8th seat, etc.
Anyone have any other experiences with an EX-L to differ with this or add to the issue? If I am wrong, PLEASE let me know and tell me how to fix/configure these things, no pride here to hurt - my kids safety may truly depend on it - the very reason I bought the Odyssey 05.
And the message following yours tells why Touring might be better.
I often have buyers-remorse if I compromise some things. If I were looking for a value I would definetly get a Sienna with cloth. At low end I like Sienna better, but that's different topic discussion. I might still end up getting low end Sienna with cloth this year, but definetly not Ody.
Today, the economy and the war are factors here. Add in the increased production (2.5 times the 99 rate!!!) and you will have real good deals and soon. The dealers are so sad I am sure. MSRP is a foolish price to pay in today's competitive market. The Odyssey is a class act but prices will be very reasonable and soon.
If you think about it $1000 off a touring with RES and NAV is probably a sticker price profit of sale of an EX. This should be interesting to watch the market respond. Maybe once word gets out the sales will pick up and MSRP will rule the day for a while.
If a kid takes his seat belt off, pull over and stop the car until he puts it back on. That's what we did with our kids, and they got the message very quickly that seat belts were not something to mess around with.
The risk of ejection or falling out of the vehicle is greatly exaggerated. A much greater risk is the beating a person takes from secondary collisions and flying objects inside the vehicle during an accident. I see very few people securing luggage, toys, and groceries in their vehicles so that they don't become projectiles during an accident.
I still personally feel that, for the same reason that child locks are now mandatory on back doors of all passenger vehicles, it is a good thing, and much safer, to lock doors, for safety of the occupants, while driving.
My frustration is that I thought that this model includes the auto-lock feature, the quick start guide seems to confirm that, the car has the capablility to lock the doors, but actually turning the feature on requires the Touring model even though the doc indicates that it does not need to be a Tourning model.
Yeah, you're right, get the Touring instead.
Length from the base of the front seats: 100 inches
Width at second seat: 65 inches
Width behind second seat: 48.5 inches
Maximum height at tailgate opening: 41 inches
Interior height: about 45 inches
The base of the front seats does not move when the seats are adjusted, so the length at the floor is the maximum length. The length above the base is about about 96 inches in my van with the passenger seat moved back as far as it will go. 96 inches is also the length to the front of the trap door to the lazy susan.
You got that right!
I'm so sick and tired of all these damn fools on the streets with the signs "will work for food" or "I won't lie, need beer".
They are a road hazard, and the law enforcemnt needs to address this problem.
I saw Taffeta White(favorite), Silver Pearl Metallic(like the dark interior), Redrock Pearl, and Sage Brush Pearl(looks slate blue).
Also, have not seen the olive interior yet either.
You probably are near Conicelli Honda. Do they have a big inventory of '05's?
We loved the gray interior - olive second, and ivory looks too light (worried about spills and stains).
You can check inventory of both by going to their websites (though one dealer told us a vehicle may show up as "in inventory" even though it has not yet reached the dealer).
Last time I checked, their '05 inventory (at least on the internet) was 5 or so vehicles). I saw about 8 on the Sussman lot this past weekend. Have not fully scoured the Conicelli lot to know how many they have.
Although I don't know yet how to use it, the audio system on my Odyssey clearly has an input option beyond/instead of the ones you expect: FM, AM, XM, CD and DVD. There is one more: auxiliary. When AUX is selected, nothing else is playing. I've lookedin the manual and can't find mention of it anywhere. Unless Honda+Alpine is playing a very cruel trick on me, somewhere in this thing is an auxiliary input jack that I can use with my iPod. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it is not the jack in the third row, which is hard to reach for the driver. ;-)
Back to the audio remark. Alpine is offering an add on unit for Alpine AI units that allows the isplay to show all the iPod info. I would settle for inputing the iPod into the stereo system. There is an adapter for the Accord but don't know if it would work for anthing else.

for info.
Interestingly there is a Toyota store next door. They seem to have some LE's XLE's and one Ltd but no NAV's. Ltd's seem to be scarce.. spoke with a friend in "fleet" seems they can't keep them in stock. (another store) Toyota seems to have a leg up in sales right now. (discounts?) Not to concerned about Ody right now.
We like the color, but there is much variation of it as depicted in the brochure versus several places on the Honda website, so we really feel we need to see it "live and in color."
Our Silver touring with the works just arrived at dealer. We wanted to see the slate green before finalizing the deal but none have arrived at our dealer yet.
Regarding demand- our local dealer in central NJ has had 2 base Touring models (no RES or NAVI) sitting on the lot for 10 days- The loaded EX-Ls and loaded Touring models seem to be the ones that are in high demand.
Who'w the largest honda dealer in socal?
Thanks.

Wonder why they don't spend the time on the vehicle they actually do like then?
Honda owners love their vehicles...never before has a minivan create so much interest in the past couple of years since Honda came out with the previous generation. Ever since, the competition has been chasing the benchmark and with the new 2005 Honda Odyssey, Honda once again features the minivan by which all others are judged.
Does anybody else get the same feeling?
The high price may also prove to be a detractor IMHO.
If you get a flat and are not within range (125 miles) of a certified repair shop, Michelin will rush a complete wheel & tire assembly to your location. If it cannot be delivered that day they will pay for your hotel accommodations for the night.
Also, my dealer will do the same until they get equipment to repair PAX tires- they will keep spare wheels with tires mounted and just swap off your wheel for the replacement...
I am very uneasy about PAX like others in this forum.
How long will Michelin and Honda provide this extra service for the PAX system? First year? Three years? What is the warranty service on replacements? Will the Touring Ody suspension work with replacement wheels and tires?
It has been said that the base new car warranty is voided if you remove the PAX wheel system. Is this also true for Honda Care extended warranties?
Any info would be appreciated.
IMO white looks the best on the '05 ODY. The light ivory interior (same as my Accord)is attractive but shows dirt easily.
Run-flat technology (not exclusive to Michelin or Honda) is new and becoming more prominent in the automotive industry you'll be hearing more about it over time.
Try calling Michelin or Honda to get first hand information instead speculation and rhetoric.
Removing the PAX tire doesn't void the new car warranty. Anyone who has a decent knowledge of the automotive warranty industry will tell you that modifying an automotive system may void the warranty on system(s) the modification affects. It's the same for all car makers. For example if I repaint my car it may void the paint protection warranty but it doesn't affect the engine, trans, drivetrain warranties. Changing from PAX to the standard Honda recommended tires may affect the PAX warranty but won't void the 'base new car warrany' or extended warranties - that's nonsense.
