I hope more people can come out reporting similar problem we both have and make Honda know that this cannot be ignored.

Although you ignored me when I made this suggestion over on the "problems and solutions" board, if you are that concerned with marshalling support for this issue and assisiting those with a similar problem, it doesn't do any good to have various threads and various (different) comments spread over at least three different boards. Not everybody has the time or inclination to read each board.

The hot air problem happens not just when the car is stopped, but BECOMES MORE NOTICEABLE when when the car is stopped. I feel hot air even when the car is moving.
The test drive I suggested is help Odyssey owners detect whether or not they got a defected car. If they do, then report to Honda dealers, so that Honda would not ignore this problem. When I reported this to my dealer, they ignored my case and sent me home without doing any thing or without even admitting there is a problem. They want me to live with it!

    Replacement tire for PAX

Does anyone know a reasonably priced replacement
rim & tire for Michelin P235-710 R460A 104T in Odyssey
    Touring?
  • nwngnwng Member Posts: 663
you like to sit in an idle car and blast yourself with outside air coming through the vents?
  • heywood1heywood1 Member Posts: 851
There is none. You must buy from a Michelin or Honda dealer. Period.

Check out the discussion dedicated to PAX & run-flat tires for minivans....

The hot air problem happens not only when the car is stopped but also when it is moving. I went to dealer again today, it happened that another Odyssey came in for the same problem: outside temperature reads 74, but vent give you 100-111 degree of hot air. I think you never get the point, namely, it is like you turn on the heater in your room to 110 degree and at the same time you turn on air conditioner to cool it down. Who would do this stupid thing, if it is not a design defect or mechanical malfunction?
  • rorrrorr Member Posts: 3,630
He was asking about a replacement RIM & tire, not just the tire itself.
  • heywood1heywood1 Member Posts: 851
Well, where else would you go for an odd-sized (18.1") rim that is proprietary technology? It's your neighborhood Honda dealer! (Or, I guess, the Tire Rack, which may offer take-offs and returns from Honda dealers). Either way, I believe there is no aftermarket PAX rim available.

I predict Ebay will be Touring owners' only hope....

Hi David- I have just noticed the same click in the rear wiper. I have had this 2005 EXL since december of 2004. Have you found the source of the problem? thanks

    Hi,

I was strugging with finding canadian dealer invoice price. unlike in the States, that can be easily found from kelly book.

does anybody happen to know that ? 2005 Odyssey EX-L?
  • seawolf2seawolf2 Member Posts: 1
I just took delivery of my 05 EXL w/NAV and RES. While driving home I noticed the power door locks did not engage when the van was in motion ( ie all doors should be locked automatically when I reached speed of 5 -10 MPH). When I test drove a Touring model all doors were locked automatically between 5- 10 MPH. Is there something wrong, did the dealer forgot to do something or am I crazy? Appreciate any response. Thanks

I'm shopping for the Odyssey or Sienna and having trouble deciding between the two. Are there some dramatic differences that might make the decision more clear cut? The only ones I've come up with so far are: 1) no automatic rear lift gate in Odyssey (except touring model) which Sienna has. 2) 8 passenger seating available in Sienna models but NOT available in Odyssey touring.
  • sebring95sebring95 Member Posts: 3,241
Auto-locking doors are not available on the EX models. Honda apparently regards this as some sort of "Luxury feature".
  • sebring95sebring95 Member Posts: 3,241
The biggest difference IMHO is how they drive and how they look. The toyota has a higher quality interior and rides/drives more on the soft side. The Ody has more power/performance and drives a bit more sporty.

I like the option packages better on the Toyota, although I never checked to see if you can actually get one the way you want it. I've bought six new Toyotas since 1992 and not a one could actually be purchased with the option combinations we wanted. Toyota will say they're available, but they won't build any that way. My wifes GX470 was a complete fiasco and we never did get it the way we wanted, even after placing an order and waiting six months.

How they look is completely subjective really. I too liked the idea of the power rear hatch at first, but I've seen a lot of problems on boths sides with this feature so I guess I don't miss it. I would have bought a Touring if I didn't have to give up a seating position.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
Once again, not everyone wants these. Personally, I can't ever remember having a customer ever mention auto locks and I've sold a whole lot of new Hondas in ten years.

I suppose if it was much of an issue, Honda would include them.
  • sebring95sebring95 Member Posts: 3,241
The fact they include them on the touring would conclude that somebody wants them. It's just the fact they only come in the top-o-the-line models that irks me. It's hardly air-conditioned seats or an adjustable suspension, it's simple programming.

A quick search also shows they're available or standard on most every other minivan out there. It's even standard on the cheapest sienna model. But I suppose nobody really wants them, they're just throwing it on to annoy folks like they do with those seatbelts :P

And again, if you don't like them you just turn them off.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
I know I would disable mine. Maybe Honda is giving them a try in the Touring models to see if this is a feature desired by the masses. I strongly suspect it is not. I could be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time. Just ask my wife!

You are. Most people who live in metropolitan areas want this feature. It's a great safety option. The keyword being "option"! I like the fact that it's there on the Touring (and I do have it enabled) and I like the fact that it can be disabled. In my opinion this is the only way the autolocking feature should be offered - with the ability to turn it off.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
If I'm entering a rough area, it takes a half second to simply hit the lock button.

If I'm wrong why don't my customers ever ask me about this?

I do know that what is a BIG deal to a few is if no importance to the masses.
  • jipsterjipster Member Posts: 6,299
"If I'm wrong why don't my customers ever ask me about this?"

Most probably assume it already has this feature on such an expensive van. Perhaps you could start pointing this out to those buying less than the touring model??? Then you would find out if it's a big deal about nothing or not. Let us know how it turned out.

I'm with you. Honda should wake up and provide auto locks on all models. I think they are the only manufacturer that does not have them as a standard feature. Chrysler, Toyota, Saturn, the list goes on.

I own 2 Honda and manually lock my doors as habit every time I get in the car. Especially when driving with my wife and 2 year old son.

I would be upset if I paid 30k+ for an Ody EX-L and auto locks are not standard. If you don't like auto locks they can easily be disabled. My 2 cents.
  • hweaverhweaver Member Posts: 33
You can buy the 8th seat and have the dealer add it to your touring model if you wish. so you turn in into an 8 seater. I think he said a couple hundred.
both are nice, I had a hard time deciding too. My hubby has an 03' toyota tundra that I am in LOVE with and if I could afford it, I'd get a sequioa!!! His seats are MORE comfortable than mine and I am a honda loyal, family's had them since 1986!!!
I love my oddy. I choose honda due to toyota's are just to much money. All are pkgs and the EX plain comes w/ almost as much as the sienna XLE.
I don't have a power liftgate, but look at what is MOST important like saftey features, and Honda will beat it everytime.
With the big changes to 05's you may be able to get a toyota cheaper. I looked on the net the other day and clicked on "hot on the lot" (on all toyota's websites) it was a 2005 artic pearl white (the color I wanted) XLE for 27,500 that is down a LOT they were I think about 32-33k. A touring is like 34k though . They are nice, but my gosh.
If you wait till 06's are out, honda does good special rates for memorial day and labor day too, you may get an 05' cheaper when the 06's are coming out, or if they have any 05's left in Sept???? Just a thought. The first year a new body style comes out you'll get killed on the price.
Look around, drive them both and see what fits you best. I think the XLE sienna only seats 7 too... The LE can seat 8.
Or like I said if you want touring oddy you can buy the 8th seat and have that center console taken out for the seat.
So I just went w/ my gutt. I got an EX with fog lights, leather wrap steering wheel, cloth, floor mats, for cost of $24,700. I got it in Feb of 2004. I am very happy. and got a good deal, I mean are a FEW features really worth 10k more? Give me a break...
I have an 04' but the dealer mentioned about the 8th seat to touring, when he showed off the 05's to me while I got my oil changed.

I just know I don't consider auto locks a "feature". If I want my doors locked while I'm driving it certainly isn't a big deal to simply push a button. Otherwise, I don't want them locked. If I'm in a bad accident I want people to be able to get me out.

But I do agree. It shouldn't be that big of a deal to make these optional on any car with power locks I wouldn't think. Honda...are you reading this?
  • ivan_99ivan_99 Member Posts: 1,681
As clear as night and day.

The Toyota XLE felt far cheaper in materials and execution than the Honda. I’m under the assumption that they have more “wiggle” room on the price because I can’t see these things selling for MSRP.

The Sienna felt on par with the GC.

The Odyssey, when compared to the Sienna, was a FAR better vehicle (in every category you can think of). My wife actually refused to drive in it because she said she didn’t want to drive something that reminded her of her 80’s Chevette.

BTW, we didn’t get the Odyssey either…but it was much better than the Sienna.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
    What DID you get?
  • myodymyody Member Posts: 17
When I slide my 2nd row seats together on my EXL R&N w/o the 8th seat I have a very unattractive view of the floor "bolts."
Should the Odyssey have come with plastic panels? Are they even availiable?

You cant Add a 8th seat in a touring or LX as their is no seatbelt in the ceiling for it. My hunch is that will change in the next two years. It would be illegal in your state and violate your warranty to add such
  • hayneldanhayneldan Member Posts: 657
The so called 8th seat in the Odyssey is only for small kids or aenorexic adults with tiny butts. It should really be called a 7 1/2 seat option. :P

Anyone out there have concerns about VCM over long years of use? (like 7+ years)

I am considering about purchasing EX-L w/ or w/out RES, but VCM is my biggest concern before making this purchase. I've test driven few times, and noticed that different cars responded differently.

First time I test drove EX-L, I did notice little bit of vibration when VCM kicked in. Other day, did not notice anything. Of course since these are brand new vehicle, it will be very hard to notice anything at this point.

My concern is that if I drive this car beyond 100k (which I typically do with all my owned hondas - 285k and 175k), would vibration of this VCM engine worsen over time? Only time will tell, but I would like to get some inputs from others who are either considering or already put on significant miles on their new Ody.

From people in Auto industry and Mechanics have told me that it is never a good idea to purchase a vehicle in their first year of new design/technology...how true is this???

    Throwing some topics to discuss...

I am also concerned about the VCM, but I think it has been used in Japan on other vehicles. I'm disappointed by the lack of much real improvement in MPG.

I’ll give the links to my previous comparisons so I don’t inundate the Odyssey form with Quest propaganda…

Gallantly done! Telling others what you have decided and why can be a minefield. I just saw another article in the paper (Sunday, I think?) reiterating that most folks buy their vehicles on emotional rather than rational grounds. The reactions we get (and feel?) prove the point, I think.

In that vain, I can say that my only (irrational?) objections to Nissan's Quest and to most of their products revolve around my distaste for the Nissan "hamburger" logo and their (to me) "Power Rangers" styling. Of course, others have excelled at excess styling binging as well (the Avalanche and the mindblowingly-ugly-to-the-bone Aztec spring nauseatingly to mind!). Subjective as subjective can get, I freely admit! ;)

The toyota has a higher quality interior

That is a matter of opinion. I can only compare cloth trims (I will never buy leather seats again, after I could not even order cloth in my BMW - I would rather buy grey import from Europe next time). Cloth EX did look and feel better to me then LX/XLE cloth trims. Purely subjective, of course.

I like the option packages better on the Toyota

If you can find what you need (as you noted). There is some value to Honda packaging simplicity. (And aftermarket DVD and Nav are just as good and cheaper)

I had the same problem on my Touring, took it in the dealer and seems to resolved, the reverse camera mode would also get stuck, mine actually rebooted itself in the middle of a trip.
