I'm not a fan of the look either. It is just too large and angry looking. I can't imagine that the huge grille provides much protection in a minor parking lot bump, though most plastic bumpers don't. On the other hand, the grille may not show scratches as readily. Regardless, I no like.

Think Toyota is ugly, how about that Lexus look :s
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,107
At least the Lexus is a 'look'. The Toyota above is misshapen.

You know, looking at that Plymouth is like jumping into a cold lake. At first the shock paralyzes you but soon you are numb and can function.

That Buick wagon is probably worth a look and maybe an offer.

The Eldorado is a lovely car, but a shame that the engine seems to have some real issues.

I'd rather deal with the engine than rust or tracking down interior bits. I do like that Eldo alot.

The wagon is nice, but if I wanted a woody wagon of that vintage I'd rather have a Panther wagon.

For the condition I think the 79 Mark is a bit overpriced.

Ford shared the steering wheel design in the Mark across Ford/Merc/Lincoln. Almost everyone I see the faux wood plastic breaks away at the cruise buttons at the wheel spokes. ugh. I like the moonroof and deep dish wheels, prefer a 77 or 78 as the 460 was available. The 400-2v is rather weak and still swills gas.

Hey, when they say "always garaged," they mean it!!!!!

Yep my 79 Town Coupe had the worn steering wheel. There was a company that makes a replacement piece of “wood” to fix it up.

The 400 is a bit of a turd.  I did dual exhaust and bumped the timing up a bit and it wasn’t too bad.

I can tell I grew up lower middle class because when I see the headline "bathtub" in these, a Nash comes to mind initially instead of a Packard. The 60 DeSoto was a decent looking car, particularly in coupe despite being on its deathbed. The Chrysler front end appealed to me a bit more though. That vintage Ranchero reminded me of Odd Job in the movie "Goldfinger" hauling away that tightly crushed car in the small truck bed (yeah, that is going to happen). A lot of fun stuff in these!

I had a '77 MkV with low miles it was a beautiful car but the generic Ford switch gear was off-putting. I also had a '78 Eldorado Biarritz and Cadillac did a better job disguising their switch gear for Cadillac. Engine wise the 460 in the MkV had more beans than the 425 in the Eldorado.
This particular MkV is way over priced $7k would be tops.

I remember the leviathan T-Bird my mom drove when I was a little kid also had those Ford rocker style cruise control switches, I vividly remember my dad explaining cruise control to me in that car (I had imagined it like an autopilot system).

IIRC the cubed car in the Ranchero from Goldfinger was a Continental - I suspect it would have a hard time hauling that weight.

I really like the Merc wagon. That color works well on it IMO

The Benz roadster reminds me of the one driven in Beverly Hills Cop. Obviously newer.

Is this your car? No in Beverly Hills we just take whatever car is closest.

I think most buy Toyota for reliability and long, relatively problem free, life. Toyota can advertise and style as they want, but that is really the image that sells their product.

If my parents and older brother are any indication of Toyota's buyer's market (and they should be on their buying history full of Toyota's) then the selling point is that the cars make warranties worth about $0.00 to them. They like the peace of mind from knowing everything is top notch in terms of durability. A reliable car isn't good enough. They want a car that never needs a warranty service visit.

Me too. And it all looked too wedding cake perfect. Why restore something like that and then post it on CL? And then I looked at the rest of his "inventory." Wow!

First thing I see is a late 60s Moto Guzzi Italian police bike! Looks perfect too. So does everything else but there's a LOT of everything else! Reminds me of a quote from Steven Wright, "You can't have everything. Where would you put it?"

Panther: Terrible color and not that well equipped, but nice shape
    Mustang: WTF
    Pathfinder, cool truck
Forester: Had one of those at work years ago. I hated that thing.
Riv: WANT, wow great color combo and looks loaded.
Olds: agree on the wheels, I know they are from something 90s but I can't place it

The Riv is nice but unlike @tjc78 , aside from black on black that silver/black would be the last combo I would want to have in one of those. It's a '68, they offered all sorts of colors inside and out, so one of these should have some color. Colors aside it looks nice enough although the lack of engine room pics and mention of a catalog carb are a minor concern.

I shudder to think what we might do with the screwdriver.

Yep, get it up on a lift and poke everything that looks rusty. We know the floor pan is, so on to the rest of the undercarriage.

Funny thing, when I looked at the first pic of that one I thought it would be a decent choice. But the interior pics reminded me of how much I disliked what Ford did with that design, from the cheap looking dash and instruments to the oversized and misplaced interior door handles.

I have a German-produced fintail buyer's guide video where they perform an inspection of a (neglected) car. They literally use a screwdriver to stab at the rockers and structural components. Hot knife through butter.

Agreed on both counts! What I love about the Mustang, though, is that it is such a labor of love! For that reason alone, it is somewhat endearing.

no clue how it drives, but at least seems to have had some concern for the "engineering" aspect of it all. Style, well, that is subjective. Definitely need a Mad Max fan for this one.
