This is for my friend, you guys all helped me immensely with my car and I appreciate it. This is a "lease to own" but when I just ran the numbers it seems like at the end they'll be paying over $35k for a 30k car? Does any of this make sense? When do you pay the taxes in a lease to own?

What state is this? Kia numbers are regional.
Generally, lease to buy doesn't make a lot of sense. Lots of charges on a lease you don't have when you purchase outright. Plus, you pay sales tax twice.
Hi thanks for the response it's for NY. It's technically a lease with the understanding that they're going to go over their miles and will buy at end. Still doesn't change the double tax. Just wondering why the payments work out to look like they'd be paying so much more - thanks!

Taxes are dependent on where you live.
.00122 MF and 59% residual. $3000 lease cash.
Just the finance charges on the lease will be $2400 or so, over the term. .00122 is roughly equivalent to 2.93% APR, so the money isn't free. Add in a $595 acquisition fee, etc, etc..
As we mentioned... lease to own is usually not a great deal. What usually happens, is after 39 months, you look at that 40K mile car, and decide you don't want to pay $420/mo. for five more years, and you just turn it in.

There was a comment that lease cash for the 2017 Sorento is regional. Can you tell me the lease cash, MF, and residual for 24/12, 36/12, 39/12 for a FWD EX V6 in Florida? January or February numbers?
I would prefer an AWD but they hardly send any AWDs to Florida.

2017 SX V6 AWD with Tech package The MSRP: $42,990 Destination charge: $895 Agreed upon value of vehicle: $38,995 Gross cap cost: $39,590 ($595 fees, including license and title fees of $364 document fee $80) Adjusted cap cost: $35,873 Money factor: 0.00096 (I think I’m remembering this correctly) Residual buyout: $27,209 Term: 24 Months / 12,000 miles per year Deposit: $0 Monthly Payment: $459.50 ($421.50 base, $38 tax; based in 9% tax district in CA)
I was told I got the full $5000 lease cash, but wanted to see if I actually did get the full benefit of incentives or more. Thought I did a good job, but then one thing about the negotiation bothered me in hindsight. I was actually looking for a less expensive trim, and he said that he’d give me a higher trim for same monthly payment. When it came to signing, he said that he had used the wrong tax rate and actually my payments were even lower. I’m wondering if he had monkeyed with the tax rate to make the cheaper trim car look more expensive, although it had much less lease cash (I think $3000 vs $5000). I spent the whole day at the dealership waiting for them to find the lower trim at another dealership. Would appreciate an expert view. Thank you

I get $446/mo with those numbers, so pretty close to your deal.
Dealers like to wear you down, then "monkey" with the numbers at the very end.
Relative to MSRP, you did good for a 24 month lease.

There is currently a $1,500 incentive on the FWD EX in my area. Does anyone know if the dealer gets the $1,500 incentive to reduce their invoice cost in a lease where the lease cash is also offered? Stated another way, if the invoice price is $30,000 and there is a $1,500 incentive, but the buyer takes the 24/12 lease cash of $4,000, does the dealer also get the $1,500 to reduce their cost of the vehicle?

No information, or guidance, on any incentives beyond the known lease cash.
