I have never leased before but am currently considering leasing a 2017 Accord Sport. I am in Ohio (Cincinnati area) and haven't had the best experience with salesman at various dealerships yet. I do have a friend that has been trying to help out and was able to get a quote of: $0 money due at signing - $300 a month for 36 months, dealership will pay the first payment so I'll technically only be paying 35 months (includes tax, tag, title, fees, 12k miles a year).

I don't have the specific numbers right now that members are talking about - MF, residual, etc. Would you be able to tell me if that quote is a good deal or if I should continue to shop around?

I had one salesman tell me that the MSRP (26,190) on a 2017 sport can be dropped about $4k-$5k right now because the 2018 model will be a new design - would that be taken into account the same if I plan on leasing that car rather than buy?

Any help would be so appreciated! Thank you :)

Would you be willing to come to the Columbus area?
Yes - I'm willing to travel to Columbus if I knew I would be getting a better deal than here.

You might be able to get to 260 or below on a Sport with zero drive off - with good credit of course.

i live in OH and concur that almost ALL OH dealers will say that the doc fee of 250 is mandatory BUT it is actually a cap and the minimum doc fee is zero. All their dealer computer programs have the 250 hard-loaded so you have to get them to lower the sell price to compensate (if they are willing). The Wyler franchise has more than one honda dealerships in the Cinti area; beware slimy tactics though. If leasing, know your numbers and be willing to walk if they won't play nice. Lots of competition especially for the V-6 model. IMO, $340 + tax is a reasonable amount excl. doc and dmv fees
Have a lease deal in Cincy area for the EXL v6 MSRP 31k OTD 29,500.

    Lease payment 367 that's with 6% taxes.

Good bad? Can I get more off?

With your prices, I get $401/mo plus tax.

I think the adjusted cap is lower than the $29,500 you reference.

    Hi Robert,

Can you give me the name of the salesman and the dealership you're working with in Fort Worth? I live in the Houston are and wanted to lease two vehicles but I haven't been successful in dealing with them thus far. If push comes to shove, I would be willing to drive up to Fort Worth.

Yes... huggins honda..... forgot his name but I'll keep in touch, ill pull the trigger in one to two weeks. Ill let you know the final numbers and his name (1st name Jerry--not sure, cant find his card).

I avoid dealing with corporate owned dealerships because they can only discount it for so much. I used to sell cars and i realized that family owned dealerships can give deeper discounts.

On his 1st run with the desk, they are giving 3k off. I then told the salesman that hardin honda in California is leasing exl for 159 with 2499 down. He then came back with 7600 off. I did not close the deal because i needed to go immediately but i am planning to get the v6. Ill offer to pay taxes with 1st pmt down. Will shoot for 250-265max on the v6

    Thank you.

Thanks.  I'm looking forward to hearing how it goes for you.  BTW, how do you know whether a dealership is corporate owned vs family owned?
  • robert_r1robert_r1 Member Posts: 29
On their website.... go to about dealership. Autonation and sonic are not family owned. Berkshire Hathaway also have dealerships in texas. Most family owned dealerships only own one but im sure a lot of folks will disagree on this. Research or call the dealership and ask. :)

If you feel something is not right on the deal, dont be afraid to walk away

Hi, just looking for some help with the lease deal I have below. This is for a 2017 accord coupe manual transmission in Pittsburgh 36 month/15000 mile. Do you think there's anymore room that lower this?

    $26,985.00 Msrp
    $22,900.00 your price with incentives
    $595.00 acquisition fee
    $23,495 Total adjusted cap cost

    Tier 1 Money Factor .00083
    Residual 52% = $14,032.20

Payments are $323.41 with $573.41 down!

    Hi,

Contacted a few dealerships in my area and was able to obtain a deal for a 2017 Accord Sport for $255 (36mo/15k) all paperwork and taxes included. MSRP is $26,190. The negotiated price before rebates is $21,300. The new model is coming in a few months so I think they are really willing to work with you. Robert's post motivated me to be more aggressive. In just one day's worth of phone conversations and texting, I was able to get my price. I definitely think Robert's deal is possible if I were willing to put in more effort. I almost signed a deal this Saturday for $306. I'm so glad I didn't.

I also made my own lease calculator in Excel that allows you to input a few more details than the Edmund's calculator. It updates the lease price on the fly as you change the yellow fields. I hope I didn't make any mistakes.

Something in your figures doesn't seem right. The adjusted cap cost on my Sport was 20,550 after $1k at signing but I did not have that extra $2k rebate you are showing in your figures - is that in addition to the $2k dealer/lease cash? They usually cook that into the quoted sale price. What is the $2100 in fees? That seems very high. Our fees here in CA are usually around $1300 incl acquisition/DMV/doc fees.

I've been using a great lease calculator phone app for some time now. It is extremely accurate as long as the correct figures are used in the calculations. It really helps keep dealers honest when lease shopping.

Whoops - I see your fees figure is inclusive of all the fees and tax (they charge you tax twice?) Your agreed value is close to $3k below invoice - pretty good deal. I'm just wondering where that extra rebate is coming from. I see you are in TX. Maybe the extra rebate is related to the tax subsidy program? Do they show the tax subsidy as a rebate?

    Gmanusnc,

    1.  You are right.  My numbers are wrong because I calculate tax twice.  I was told/read somewhere that lease deals in Texas are a little more expensive due to the fact that leases are calculated on the negotiated sale price of the car vs taxing the pre-lease payments.

    2.  Incentives and rebates.  There is a $1000 dealer rebate and $1000 lease incentive.  When you negotiate with the dealer, are those items included already?

I had used the following link to create my excel spreadsheet:
    https://www.edmunds.com/car-leasing/calculate-your-own-lease-payment.html

My spreadsheet calculations came out with the correct numbers when I used the numbers provided in the example edmunds provides.  When I had initially made the spreadsheet, line #22 did not exist (Tax on the negotiated value of the car).  However, when I tried the calculator in real world scenarios vs the edmunds calculator (https://www.edmunds.com/calculators/car-lease.html), my numbers would always be lower and I didn't know why.

What fees should I be expecting and what are the values of those fees?  Are they fixed or determined by the dealer?
    Acquistion = ~595 (not fixed)
    Documentation/Title = 50.75

  • MichaellMichaell Moderator Posts: 265,895
Texas does tax the entire selling price of the car - but, your spreadsheet is taxing twice. Either it's the $1300 one line 22 or it's the tax rate on line 42 - not both.

And, most lease calculators don't catch this anomaly for Texas.

Doc/title fee might be partially dealer and possibly government. At $50, not worth worrying about.

    Acquistion = ~595 (not fixed)
    Documentation/Title = 50.75

Michaell and kyfdx have clarified the tax and acquisition fee issues already - you can just use line 22 for the tax and apply a zero tax rate on line 42 and you will get a payment of 238 a month. That's including that $2k rebate you are showing - if that rebate is a duplication of $1k dealer cash/$1k lease cash, then I suspect the payment will be more like 294 a month. A quoted sale price of $21.3k most likely already includes any incentives available to the dealer.

I ended up pulling the trigger on two Honda Accord Sport Trims. Thank you everyone here for help!! I walked into the dealership expecting to have to haggle. We had agreed to everything prior to the deal via email but I was still expecting for them to waste my time. The previous visit to another dealership turned out horribly with them wanting $380!! At this dealership, all I ended up doing was choosing the colors of the cars I wanted and signing the lease. This as been the best the best car experience I have ever had. The dealership is family owned. I truly do see a difference in the way they do business vs. the previous dealership I had visited.

    Lease: 36 months at 15k a year
    MSRP: $26,050
Agreed Upon Value of Vehicle : $21,500
    License, Title and Registation: $193
    Documentation Fee: $150
    Acquistion Fee: $595

    Monthly Payment: $262

Can you please give me the MF and Residual on a 2017 Accord EX and EX-L on a 36mo 12k mile lease in Indiana.  Also what other lease incentives might be available?  Dealer was quoting the EX @ ≈ $24,100 & EX-L @ ≈ $26,100 before we discussed lease vs finance.  Not sure if lease incentives will impact those quotes... thanks for the guidance.

Just about ready to start negotiating for best lease deals from area dealerships. Just curious, given the lease bonus cash incentive, if I should disclose my plans to lease a vehicle in my initial correspondence to get price negotiations going. What about mentioning my trade in (near end lease and prob have a little equity in it)?

I'd definitely let them know you are leasing. No point in bringing up the trade, until you get someone that is dealing on the lease, to start with.

Good Evening, I'm looking at the Accord Hybrid (lowest trim) located in MO and would like to know incentives, residual and MF (tier 1). Interested in 24/12k and 10k or 36/12k and 10k.

    Thanks again.

    .00039 and 59% (24/12) or 53% (36/12). No 10K option available from Honda.

$1250 dealer cash and either $1250 or $2150 bonus lease cash - I don't know which your trim level qualifies for.

Just got quoted a lease deal for the Accord EX-L w/Navi and Sensing for $302 per month for 36 months, with $0 down. Is that a good deal?
