They gave me every excuse under the sun when I asked them about seeing the adjusted cap cost from 18,403 what would that piece of information tell me and if their not willing to share should I pass on this deal. However I did get the breakdown of the 5700 they took off of on the MSRP

    1500 Dealer Cash
    1250 Lease bonus Cash
    So 2750 is Incentives

The rest of it approximately 3000 is what they took off MSRP do you think theirs more room to negotiate their

We don't track selling prices, but there is an active Accord Prices Paid thread where you can get expert feedback on your pricing.

Could I get RV and MF for 2017 Accord Sport SE 6MT and CVT in Atlanta, Georgia? 36/12 and 36/15. I saw a posting earlier in LA, but wonder if the rates are different in GA.

Need some thoughts.. made an online inquiry on an Accord Touring and the price they came back with was $30,500 to which I asked them to place in a lease payment.

They came back with $455 Tax in on a 36/12 with only 1st and tag at signing.

Using the 35,805 MSRP, the 48% Res, .00059 MF, and tax of 7% and the assumption of cap cost of $30,500... $455 seems extra high what am I or they missing?

You could probably get a Lexus ES350 for that or less. Some are leasing ES premium pkg, msrp around $44k for about 400 incl tax. Something to think about unless you're really set on an Accord. We have both and I'd definitely take the ES if the payment was similar.

I get $426/mo, with tax, using that information.

Ask the dealer for the adjusted cap cost, and how they arrived at that number from the selling price.

Thank you so much. I know I felt the doc fee was high but it's my understanding that they are very high in FL....just to make sure I am calculating correctly...let's assume the adj cap cost was $27067.75 what monthly payment would you get...I got $330.04 before tax of 7 percent and $353 after. (when calculating I did not include putting first payment down and used 36 months...) Just want to see if that payment is even close...will call dealer ship shortly to try and get exact adj cap cost before going over there...but can you confirm my payment numbers?

Ok I have a feeling this was not the best deal but my husband was anxious to get this finished so let me know what mistakes we made here. I know the dealer service fee was ridiculous but we supposedly received $4506 discount off of the 29795 MSRP

The protection package, wheel locks and splash guards... That's a lot of money for not much benefit. The splash guards might be the only useful item. Plus, a $799 dealer fee that adds no benefit.

So, the calculations are correct. But, they killed you on the "extras"

Agreed. We will see how the protection package works and if they stand by their word that they will fix any scratch or dent   Or fix any interior issues. If they do we will probably make out on that portion as my husband  gets a ton of scratches and door dings at the parking garage he uses at work.

Also, can I take their word for the numbers on the advertisement or will they try to increase the numbers?

So here is an Accord Touring deal in Florida (7% tax) BUT something is a miss.... help in math as these seem high on a 36/12.
I see a super discounted price BUT the lease number seem very high

    MSRP- $35,805
    Savings- $6,300
    Vehicle Price- $29,505
    Wheel Locks- $149 (scam price?)
    Total Price- $29,654

    Tax-$1,885
    Tag/Reg- $549
    Tire/Batt.- $8.50

So here is an Accord Touring deal in Florida (7% tax) BUT something is a miss.... help in math as these seem high on a 36/12.
I see a super discounted price BUT the lease number seem very high

    MSRP- $35,805
    Savings- $6,300
    Vehicle Price- $29,505
    Wheel Locks- $149 (scam price?)
    Total Price- $29,654

    Tax-$1,885
    Tag/Reg- $549
    Tire/Batt.- $8.50
    Dealer Fee- $799
    Total Cost- $32,895

Cash due at signing $455 - 35 mos left at $455

That looks like a purchase quote - no mention of the acquisition fee of $595.

Ask the dealer for the adjusted cap cost, then we can run the numbers.

    .00059 and 48%

$2750 of total incentives, so your true discount from sticker is $3550.

You may want to check the "Accord Prices Paid" thread to see if that is a good enough discount.

Just went to a dealership in Dallas, TX and got this quote on 2017 Accord Sport 3 year lease with 12k miles:

    Negotiated Selling price: $20,6xx

Effective sales tax: $454 (apparently the dealer figured out a way to charge 1.5% instead of 6.25%)

    monthly lease payment: $235

Down payment: first month's payment of $235

No trades involved, just a straight lease deal. Let me know how I did. Thanks in advance.

Given the tax situation in TX, I'd say you did fine.

There are times when dealers can offer tax rebates to lower the effective rate for a lease. Not often does it happen with a mainstream brand.

I agree with the MF and residual.

But, no way would I put down $5K or more on a lease - skip the cap reduction, and roll the tax and doc fee into the payment. If the car is stolen or totaled early in the lease, that money would be lost.

Only out of pocket should be the first payment and registration / DMV costs.

If I use $28,723 as the cap cost (your cap cost plus the cap reduction, tax and doc fee), I get $384/mo.

FYI, there are $3400 of lease incentives on the base hybrid, this month. Negotiate your best price, then subtract out the incentives.

Leasing is a lot more complicated than I had thought. I honestly got lost when the salesperson threw bunch of terms. I did some research with the terms and am setting up the strategy for tomorrow's visits. Please correct me if I am wrong anywhere.

The cap cost offered by the dealer today ($28723) includes tax, acquisition & doc fee, and cap cost reduction (but does not include the $3400 incentive), and this number is negotiable. After reducing the number, then I can apply the $3400 to find my net cap cost.

Let's say the one of the dealer I visit tomorrow offers me cap cost of 28000, and I managed to negotiate it down to $27000. After applying the incentive ($3400), the adjusted/net cap will be $23600. Since residual is $14915 ($30440 X .49), I will be paying $8685(23600-14915) over 36 months, which will be 241.25/month with 0 down, tax, and fees rolled over to payments.

    How does that look?

Your calculations are partially correct - for the depreciation.

You then need to calculate the 'rent charge' (aka, interest) as well.

Use this link to help you build a lease calculator, where you can plug in the numbers.

I've been buying and leasing vehicles a long time.

An issue you will run into is that when you request quotes from a dealer, they will almost always already have baked in whatever incentives they are willing to pass on and any other incentives you may qualify for. They sometimes even use incentives you may not qualify for and then "explain" to you they have to change their numbers because you aren't able to receive that incentive.

The system that works for me is to settle on the exact vehicle and options I want. I request quotes from multiple dealers for an out the door payment incl tax and all fees with zero due at signing (don't use the term "down payment"). Some folks subscribe to negotiating the sale price first and that's ok. But if you know the vehicle's money factor and residual for the lease terms you are seeking, it will take a specific selling price to get to the payment you are shooting for. I leased my current Accord Sport using this system and the sale price ended up at almost $4k below invoice. If you do want to apply any money up front, the payment will be reduced by about $28 a month for each $1k paid at signing (but pay as little up front as possible).

Just remember to send the exact same email to as many dealers as possible and YOU stay in control of the numbers - don't let them control the process.

    Good luck!

Looking to lease for the first time. Have been reading through here the past couple weeks and hope I'm finally ready. I want to start by thanking you for your helpful tips, info, and strategies.

Looking at 2017 Accord LX sedan, CVT for a 36/12 in northern VA
From your posts I already know MF is .00059 and residual is 54%
And there's $1500 dealer cash and $1250 lease cash

    1. Trying to figure out target price to negotiate now. Edmunds TMV for my area shows $20,548 (inc destination), much lower than invoice of $22,070 (inc destination)

Is the Edmunds TMV already factoring in the dealer cash or can I legitimately aim for the TMV price of $20,548- $2750 (combined dealer and lease cash)?

    2. I am aiming for no down payment and paying nothing at signing.

Is it possible to have everything (taxes, fees, and even $595 acquisition fee) rolled up into the monthly payments?

And is there a disadvantage to doing this, i.e. would I be paying more to spread out the taxes and fees over the course of the lease vs. paying the taxes and fees upfront?

VA is a state that charges tax on the entire car price in a lease, if it makes a difference.

    Thank you so much!
