If I was running it, I'd start with eligible sellers, as that doesn't require an actual vehicle to complete, and those people have to have already signed up. Then, that also decides the leftovers pool.

It has been well over 4 weeks for me and still determining eligibility. The online claims site is still down, BTW.

I saw an article in today's newspaper, stating that VW expected to show a profit this quarter. I'm not sure how the accounting / bookkeeping works on this, I thought they had already shown the 14.7 billion as a loss on their books. If they have, and they're still able to show a profit, that is amazing.

Neat! When the dust has settled and my JSW has been bought back, I'd consider picking up a repaired TDI Passat at a very steep discount. I think they are going to have trouble convincing people to buy the "fixed" cars.

That was cool. I don't even own one, but watched the whole thing anyway!

Most interesting, looks like VWOA will be actively reselling these ASAP, and should recoup a lot of money that way. So if you really like the diesel, wait a few months, and buy it back! Likely with a really good warranty.

I spoke with the claims line today because I'm impatient.

They have 10 business days from the 10/25 approval date to accept the documents, and another 10 days from that to confirm eligibility and show you your final buyback amount.

This sounds like a very good plan to me. I would like to have a newer, lower mileage TDI Passat. And hopefully for the same amount that I get paid for my older, more miled up model.

I admit to being VERY curious to see that "final buyback amount".

I'm getting nervous about how long this whole thing is really going to take. Every month I keep that car, it's eating into my ROI. I planned on January, but that month is sure coming up quickly! And, I really don't want to have it in hand after around April 1 because of the tires I put on it last month.

I got a single-page flyer in an 8.5 x 11 envelope the other day explaining the various settlement options. Very inefficient use of a large envelope and postage.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,764
I received a postcard from a VW dealer offering early settlement incentive of "up to $5000 downpayment on a new VW." Even has a website set up for it: tdiearlysettlement.com.

Of course, you read the fine print and see you are supposed to have all your settlement paperwork, so its not, in fact, early at all.

Actually, they are "loaning" you the $5k down payment, based on your expected buyout. I think of an incentive as "extra money", and this is simply a loan. Very temporary, and very conditional.

    I want a flyer. ;)

Drawback to having an Audi. If they offer incentives on a replacement, I'd be much more likely to want a VW.

The incentives will probably apply to both. Audi accepted my VW $500 goodwill card good only at VW, AND, as it turns out, Audi as well. The cost of Taxes in CA made the $500 seem like chump change.

Neither have I. But at least the process is moving forward. I just read everything posted so far over on TDIClub. There is nothing, not one item, about the restitution amount for late buyers. I suspect that late buyers are not yet being processed, only original owners, those who owned before September, 2015.

Totally agree, it'll happen - I have no concerns about it.

More just a complaint about the seeming randomness of the process.

well, this is all new stuff, being put together on the fly. So not surprising there are some kinks. Plus, I assume there was a big influx of documents in a short period, and it takes time for people (and probably not enough of them) to work through the backlog,

but, they will get to all of you eventually.

It took about a year for the County to process my appeal of property value when housing prices plummeted. Rather than be proactive, they just ignored the market collapsing and forced cognizant people to file appeals of value. Then they complain they got so many it took them a year to process them.

Apparently Audi has set aside an additional $687 million for potential buybacks and compensation.

    autoweek.com/article/vw-diesel-scandal/older-vw-touareg-audi-q7-diesels-may-face-buyback

Here's a question - if they come up with an acceptable fix, dealers are sitting on 2015 Q7 TDIs that could then be repaired and made available for sale as new cars. While I don't doubt there may be some pent up demand for such models, I can't imagine they'll be sold without substantial discount, given how old they will be in "car years."

Personally, I like them quite a bit, but that model did debut in 2007; the new Q7 will be in its second model year, and all the other luxury SUVs have been remodeled much more recently.

Guess nobody here has gotten their offer letter yet, either, huh? There is apparently no rhyme nor reason to who is getting further along in the process. Some folks who submitted in October have already been approved and received offers, while some September submitters are still waiting. Whether or not title is in hand also does not seem to be making a difference.

I just saw this over on the TDIClub forums:

If you want you can go on the Northern District of California website and read the transcript of the November 3 status meeting. Basically says that VW has received 197,000 claims and 70,000 document packages have been accepted and passed on to Claims Supervisor. Of those 70,000 packages, 28,000 have been validated. VW then has to prepare the offer letters. Doesn't say how many offers were sent out and doesn't give a timeline.
Does say they are receiving 6,500 call a day!

If I was running that show..

Eligible sellers would be handled first (to establish the eligible seller remainder pool).
    Lessees would be next.
    Then pre-09/15 buyers.
Then post-09/15 buyers (who might be affected by the seller remainder pool).

Haven't seen any rhyme or reason to it, so far... but, I think it might be instructive that no post 06/28 buyers have gotten an offer. My documents are still "under review".
