< class="Quote" rel="fintail">You're right, @ab348, yellow car at far left appears to be a likely 4cyl Ponton.

I also agree about the apparent Hillman Minx, but I think the black wagon could be a Borgward. I don't recall the Husky existing with a two piece rear window treatment like that.

I don't see a two-piece rear window. Do you mean the rear side window ?

BTW-I think the chrome strip on the '59 Caddy's side means it's an Eldo.

Did one of you guys have a Microsoft 10 update recently? There was some security protections in the latest package that might be involved in this.

Mine is working. HP Laptop Pavilion G7 Win 10 Chrome
    Win 10 updates:
I had the double update last week, where it requires a restart, does an update to about 30%. Comes back finished. Then downloads the same update and installs again and finishes. Apparently that's normal for that update.

And since today is update Tuesday, I had an update requiring a restart.

My machine is still on Version 1809 Build 17763.529
    There's a Version 1903 if I understand correctly.

I loaded a pic from URL and from my saved file on my machine.

    Well, it's a Kaiser-Willys Manhattan.
As to the year, it's a '54 or '55. I would need to see the hood ornament.

Firefox actually started working again on this site yesterday and was letting me post pics and emotorcons from the pull-downs again.

Here’s a test in Safari on the iPad.

I think the Manhattan was listed as a '54. I always liked the angularity of the rear C-pillar along witht he divided rear windows added to the dip in the body line in the rear door then the taillights.

Yep that's what I mean, the rear side window. To my eyes, the dark colored car in the old pic is shaped much different, and I would wager it is a German car.

Could you again find the listing? Perhaps there is also a photo showing the hood.

Someone over at The Old Motor also pegged the little wagon as a Borgward and it does look like it could be a Goliath now that I've looked at some pics of those. It's fascinating to think that such relatively obscure import cars could have had such a presence in a place like Wyoming back in 1959 with wide-open spaces, Big Sky country, etc not being a place where one would have thought they would have much of an impact back then.

Warren AFB is in Cheyenne, so it's possible that folks who were stationed there brought their foreign cars with them.

Factoid: Warren does not have a runway for fixed wing aircraft.

Couldn't find the original pic the way I did before. But I think this is the same car in a suburban driveway with tall trees. The red plastic on top of the "tailfin" is unique. I love it.

    This says '55.

The Kaiser was a spiffy looking vehicle when it first came out. Unfortunately, there was little money for upgrades and styling changes and that made the car wear thin over time. I believe they made them somewhere is South America (maybe Argentina) for a number of years beyond US production.
  • ab348ab348 Member Posts: 20,313
I understood the main issue with Kaiser was that they were undercapitalized, so they had no money to develop a modern engine or develop other body styles as became necessary for the mid-'50s evolution of the U.S. market.

Aha, I was looking for that tall fin on top of the nose making it a '55. I wonder if that car has any connection to May 7, 1955 as the license plate hints.

I'd go with a Goliath for that black estate car - the rear half looks like a Lloyd but I am fairly sure that the front wings look more Goliath.

  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
Yes - the Vespa 400. Made by the French Vespa company in Paris rather than an Italian one, and they made quite a few - fist one I saw was in Paris back in the early 80s when they were still in use but I've seen a couple since in museums etc.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
Would that Goliath have been shipped to US by a serviceman from Germany perhaps - I can't imagine many got there as regular sales?
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
So the yellow coupe is a Vespa? I'd never guess that. It sure looks like a Type 34 VW Karmann Ghia. Even looked one up on Wikipedia. Not sure if I saw one in the States, but pretty sure I did in Australia or Europe. Was this design maybe shopped to different brands? Probably the only reason I recall the Type 34 is because it was so different from the Karmann Ghia's I was used to seeing.

Yes, a 1966 Volkswagen Karmann-Ghia/Type 2 I don't think they ever officially exported the Type 2 version to the USDM which is odd since the first series was pretty popular.
    Did they get into Canada?

    Isn't it called a Type 34?

Not in Canada either unless a service member stationed in Europe brought one back with them.

That is a Karmann I don't think I've seen. Very clean looking styling. unlike (in my opinion) the Type 34.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
Sorry - I followed a previous response from Fintail - the Vespa is the little blue car - the yellow one is a Karman Ghia. I think the responses got out of alignment somehow.
