Yep, I hadn't seen a Scout pickup before, mid-60s if I had to guess. I was surprised how many different pickups International made, once I started looking. The Scout pickup sure was short.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,439
yeah, probably the length of a Jeep. i think the different variants were the same car, different roof configs.

Yessir that's a 2008 Bentley Continental GTC. Thes are real traffic stoppers. The styling is subtly aggressive but spot on.

    Hasn't moved for 40 years.

Hint: It's postwar, They only made 84 of them. It's western European. Note the electric gear shift.

    Postwar electric shift mystery car.
Steering wheel looks Delahaye and body is 235 coupe? Maybe 1952.

Is the logo strip that's in reverse down in the metal box supposed to give a hint to those who know the various models. Or is the name strip readable left to right?

"Essence" and "lanternes" are indicative of what country?

Very good Omarman! Registration says 1953 but close enough. They only made 84 of this model, and, regrettably, most were bodied by Chapron, like this one. I believe Saoutchik made a few coupes that are much prettier----well, as pretty as a 235 gets.

The electric shift is probably a Cotal 4-speed In America Cord also used an electric pre-select, which was pretty fragile, often called "the fusible link" in the Cord drivetrain. Tucker used that same box, and modified it a little (synchro first I think). having no transmission of its own---so it scrounged the wrecking yards for Cord boxes. I can't imagine the Tucker boxes having much longevity will all that added power from the engine.

Delahaye was just another one of those automobile companies that couldn't survive after WW II.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,462
French car. I agree with the Delahaye guess.
  • ab348ab348 Member Posts: 20,318
I missed the die cast “Dela...” emblem in the metal box in pic #2, so I think that's a pretty good guess.

Also possible. Stuff has to be cleared out of the way before I can take a closer look. It is odd that it's RHD. Probably built for the UK.

The ad sez it's a 1968 Triumph GT6 but it lacks an amber lens on the turn signal. The white walls are not period correct but only by a few years. My 1966 TR-4A came with Goodyears that had the same narrow whitewalls but I'm pretty sure they weren't on cars delivered in '68.

The aftermarket wheels are nice Minilite look alikes probably by PanaSport.

The GT6 was a brilliant idea that never caught on much, perhaps because Triumph's rep for poor build quality was catching up with them. The 2.5 Liter I-six was a very nice engine.

    Apollo 3500GT.

I had to cheat backwards to find the name. I recognize the car as the "Thorndyke Special" from the original Herbie movie. Off to IMCBD, and there it is:

Yup, the red coupe is the beautiful Buick-powered Intermeccanica Apollo GT ca.1963

As for your yellow car, I think it's one of the VW-based sports/GTs to come out of Brazil in the 60s but I can't recall the name.

Yellow car is the Apollo from Herbie, different angle from the red car produces a somewhat different look.

Thanks. When I first saw the pic featuring a rear 3/4 view my first thought was that it was some sort of modified E-type Jag. But then I saw enough differences to conclude it wasn't that. It does look good from that angle but I have to say, now that I've looked up pics of it from other angles, that it really does very little for me due to the front end styling. It does look like they used the E-type as inspiration, but they kind of messed it up, especially the front end.

The rear definitely has a lot of E-type in it but I like the front as well, which is almost a direct lift from Pininfarina's Ferrari 250 series.

You have to be very into those G-body Cutlasses to tell the subtle differences each year, but I would guess that to be an '86 Cutlass Supreme.

Bingo! It's easy to forget that in the 80s the Olds Cutlass Supreme was the best selling car for a number of years.

My bride had one of those Cutlasses in '83, the metallic silver paint on the trunk was fading after only a couple of years. We sold it soon after we moved to Anchorage, the Cherokee (XJ) was much better suited to the winters!

From best seller to defunct nameplate in only 20 years... how the mighty have fallen.

Ford Escort was best selling car in America in 1982, 1987 and 1988 according to C&D. Any best selling car in the 80's list needs an asterisk to reflect voluntary import restraints and the general CHMSL tech dreck of the times.

From what I can tell, the '83 was more like $13k. My '83 GTI was almost $10k, so it wasn't that much more for the RX-7.
