From 1962. I wonder how much it shared in common with my '72 Duster.

There weren't any 1960 Lancers. It was introduced in 1961.

Believe the red car is a Falcon wagon and a bug infestation.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,495
white car 2 over from the red wagon is also a falcon. And I think a small Rambler in between. Red Porsche 365 on the other side of the white Falcon.

Other side of the blue shack is a Red Alfa convertible. Guillia? Like in the Graduate.

I think you guys are right about the red Falcon. I didn't notice the Alfa, the red spider might be a a Giulia or the later Giulietta. The Alfa featured in The Graduatewas a long-tail version of the Giulietta known as the Duetto.

Alfa's naming conventions were endlessly confusing, still are.

The red Falcon wagon is a '61, the white Falcon sedan is a '60. The car between is a gen 2 Chevy II; probably a '65.

I thought it might be a '58 but looked at some pix and you're correct it's a 1957 Fury. I'm fond of the double raked aerials that were seen on sporty cars in the 50s and 60s. Apparently the second aerial is superfluous.

    1965-ish Daimler 2.5 V8 Saloon? Small engine for a V8.

  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,671
Right-o, old chap, you weren't fooled by the Daimler's resemblance to the Jag Mk.2 saloon on which it is largely based. The main difference was under the hood where the 2.5 Liter hemi-head V8 from the Daimlers SP250 replaced the XK twin cam 6.

Exterior differences were slight with the Daimler sporting a ridged radiator surround and a smaller hood ornament compared to the Jag's leaping cat. Interior differences were minimal. The Mk.2 had wide bottom bucket seats in front compared to the 250-V8's bench seat divided by fold downsctions.

Extra points if you can identify the markings on the airplane or the type of plane.

The markings are for French Naval Aviation. The airplane, a Max Holste MH.1521 Broussard, I think.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,671
I'm sure you're right about the French Navy markings. I used to pretty good with planes but i never heard of that one. It reminds me of the Westland Lysander.

At least two 60 Fords, 57 Chevy, 58 Chevy, mid 50s Buick front and center.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,504
60 Ford at right looks like it might be a Starliner. The white one parked away from the camera is a Galaxie 4 door post.

The Buick hardtop next to the '60 Ford is MY 1954.

A bit to catch up with

That Japanese Mini is badged as an Austin which would make it a Countryman rather than the Morris Mini Traveller - it is entirely possible that it was one sold here and then taken to Japan as a grey import - many were when they became fashionable.

That Daimler is the later reincarnation of the 2 1/2 litre saloon with the 2548cc V8 unit - initially it was called that but they made it in this modernised form from 1967 with the slim bumpers (rather than the ones that looked like ARMCO barriers) and it was really the equivalent of the Jaguar 240 rather than the original one which equated to the Jag Mk II

This later one was marketed here as the Daimler 250 V8 and was badged (at the rear) to that effect.

Like the 240 Jag it had less luxurious seats than the original model - indeed it was by then an extra cost option to get leather seats rather than the otherwise standard "Ambla" which was leather-like but from synthetic cows somehow...

Hardest one is probably the airliner. Hint: it was based on the B-29 bomber.

That's a Boeing 377 Stratocruiser, one of the earlier pressurized airliners. It has a 'double bubble' design, to give it a lot more room for passengers than the B-29, including a bottom floor lounge. Hope these flight attendants had something to hold on to!

    @Lostwrench3

I remembered seeing this picture of a Bristol Beaufighter which had a similar role in the immediate post WW2 era - although that one was with the RAAF - it would have been significantly quicker than a Lysander though
