Oops. But by then the Miata was in place, would have been nice to have a Honda competitor from the get-go, or even before the Miata. Honda sold about 110,000 S2000, Mazda over 1,000,000 so far.

Yep! Too bad Honda didn't keep after the roadster market.

The S2000 would like a word.
Fantastic car but it ceased production in 2009. Teases has a point.

Sorry I lost your comment about my grey Manchester scene.

The one on the right is indeed a Morris Minor van - they built tens of thousands of them from the late forties to the early seventies including vast numbers for the Post Office, but this particular one wasn't one of theirs

I believe there may be some older vehicles in this pic from NYC, 1960.

well, definitely not 1960! 1st gen Mustang is easy. I will guess the headlight behind it is a big Rambler sedan.

1960? I don't think so, the Mustang is a '65MY (on sale fall '64). The Chevy taxi is a '62. GMC/Chevy panel trucks looked the same for about a decade.

67(?) Barracuda looks like an antique here.

very new Corolla about to be rear ended by a Chevy panel chassis-cab.

When I graduated college in 1985, my dad wanted me to buy a Corolla of that vintage.

I passed and found a year old Accord Hatchback.

The "s" that was supposed to be at the end of 1960 never got struck on the keyboard. I think I was distracted by the tails. :D

Bellevue WA, mid 60s, should zoom ok. This "Marina style" Safeway was just a few blocks from where I used to live, it existed until the early 2010s, replaced by a semi-pretentious shopping complex:

Yeah, when GM tried (and failed) to learn about Japanese production methods.

    Now building Teslas.

The Corolla was a bare bones model my dad wanted me to get. And, an automatic (yuck!). The Accord was much nicer, inside and out, plus a 5-speed.

I think the big dark car behind the red Comet is something uncommon, a ~65 Mercury Montclair or Marauder 4 door HT

I was going to place two chips on the 1963 Buick Electra 225 because of that long thin side badge on the side of the rear fender.

The Minx convertible shows how your compact cars of that era, like the Comet were never going to be sold widely here as they were a size larger than the average saloon - which then pretty much would have been a Minx / Victor / Cambridge etc
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,483
I've noticed USDM "compacts", especially the 63+ Dart/Valiant, were sold as normal full sized cars in other markets. Of course, in much of the world, a USDM full sized car would end up like this:

Yes, Detroit cars of almost any era were designed for the wide open spaces of the West and Midwest. We Easterners found out that even "compacts" of the 50s and 60s were problematic. This was one of the reasons for the rising popularity of imports such as Volswagen, Renault and later Datsun and Toyota.

Nowadays gigantic pickups and SUVs are everywhere and they're even bigger and way heavier than the Yank Tanks of yore. Maybe some folks will figure out that an electric SUV is harder to park than most small EC cars.

Is there another US car 5 behind the Chevelle (2 behind the black car).

The car 2 behind the black car (which is between two Volvos), with round lights, makes me think period VW Polo or Golf.
