I have no memory of that car. But, when I see full-size Pontiac coupes that I don't recognize, it's almost always a 2+2. (and, my mother drove Pontiacs in the '60s).

I guess it was like the SS option for a Chevy, but it was only for the Catalina, and included removal of all Catalina name plates, making it just a "2+2".

    Ah, the Pontiac 2 + 2.
The 1966 model had 421 cubes.
Dropped in the USA in 1967.
    Made in Canada until 1970!

But the Canadian one was a Chevy chassis with a Chevy engine.

My grandfather had a 63 Grand Prix in that color combo for a while.
It sat 5 having a metal center console in front,
Guess where I had to sit if we all 6 of us went somewhere together?

OK, I need someone more up on 60s Pontiacs to give me a tutorial on the relative positions of the 2+2 and the Grand Prix in the Poncho pecking order. I always thought of the 2+2 as a budget GP; kind of a 'Road Runner' s 'GTX' thing. Or perhaps the 2+2 being a GTO for someone who wanted a full-size car. Am I close on either of those?

I'm not sure but since the 2+2 was a subset of the Catalina I imagine it was cheaper and lower ranking than the GP. The 2+2 name was borrowed from the 4-seater Ferrari coupes.

MX-30 (I know that's what you meant). And they just announced the rotary engine option to make up for the pretty short EV range. I wonder what range they could get if they devoted all that rotary engine and gas tank room to a bigger battery?
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,717

I still feel a lot more suited to a nice plug in hybrid. so much of my driving is short enough to be fine with the electric range on a good PHEV (20-30 miles). on the weekend when he might make a "big" trip that still is probably not much more than 30-40 miles one way.

and when we make an occasional long trip, no worries about range!

A friend has a RAV4 Prime, and makes it both ways without gas. (36 miles)

Nogales, Mexico, late’50s or early ‘60s. Should expand some.

I'm not too good with 50's and 60's models, but isn't that a '61 Chevrolet on the right?

A parking lot in an unknown location, circa 1970, with an interesting mix of vehicles. The palm trees give me a Hawaii vibe. Expands nicely.

Triumph spitfire and a red TR. 2 I think.

Studebaker hawk up top. And a white Toyota corona.

67 Camaro. My first car! Next to a 67 barracuda.

Facing the leftmost motorcycles, a Falcon with racing stripes on the hood.
The Maverick seems to be the newest car in the picture.
A late 50's/early 60's black C1 Corvette to the left of the red car with white top.

small red sedan to extreme left is an Opel Kadette

right at the back is another Opel - this one is a white Rekord Caravan wagon - circa 1958-60? in front of that black shed to the left of the two tin sheds.

Red /black Galaxie coupe two rows directly in front of it...

2nd row in across the street, between a later Falcon coupe (which is beside the red 67 Galaxie) and Falcon wagon, appears to be a Toyota Crown wagon - insanely rare. White Datsun 510 sedan (?) at the end of the row.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
Two Triumphs, a black Spitfire in first row and a red TR-3A in second row up.
