    Nice call!

Recognized it instantly. Had a new one back in '65. Mine was a black/black Cyclone. 289 was a sweet motor. :P

Ferrari 340 Mexico....has very distinctive front styling....very rare.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Built solely for racing. Then came the more powerful version the 340MM, and they built 9 of those I believe.

Also I *think* they built one 340 Mexico Spyder.

    Built solely for racing.

Yup, and named for their participation in the Carrera Panamericana, the fabled Mexican road race.

No takers for #27853? Hint: when TVR got into financial trouble in the late 60s one of their dealers obtained permission to build three TVR designs under a new brand name.

Well, it's a Trident, and I think it is a Trident Clipper, from 1970/71, judging by the registration.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,672
You're close, Mag. It's a Trident but it's the four-seat Venturer which shared the British Ford V6 with some Clippers. The Clipper could also be had with the American Ford 289 V8.

A third model, the Tycoon used the Triumph 2.5 liter straight six, all ceased production ca. 1974.

Looks like a Jaguar E-type shooting brake, and that's either a Trans Am or a Camaro, I'll guess the former. Late 70s photo, I'm guessing.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
From back to front: 1977 or 1978 Chevrolet Caprice Landau coupe, 1975-76 Buick Regal, Jim Rockford's 1977 Pontiac Firebird Esprit, Jaguar XKE.

That shot really takes me back... I bought my first new car in '77! Couldn't afford any of those models, though...

I loved The Rockford Files... the early ones are especially good.. I think the crackdown on TV violence cut down on the car chases in the later shows.. (no kidding).

Good job Lemko, but the Buick Regal is definitely a '76 - IMHO one of the best designs of the '70s.

early 70s caddy deville and full size Chevy wagon (porbably a kingswood estate) in the back row, pointing toward the camera.

I loved that show too. Rockford was such a smart a..

The Jag is not a shooting brake, it's a Series III E-Type 2+2. A shooting brake would have a squared off wagon-style rear.

Most shooting brakes were coachbuilt onto coupe bodies, the closest thing to a mass-production SB would be the Volvo 1800ES.

Lemko, that is either a '76 or '77 Regal (wheel openings and other sheetmetal changed for '76), and that Chevy is a '77 Impala Coupe. Those taillights are one-year only, and that is where the "Impala" nameplate was located. We had one from Nov. '76 'til Jan. '81.

It is in a way I guess; a Nomad with the Fuelie setup would be a pretty neat Shooting Brake, methinks. SBs generally have two doors.

Volkswagen Karmann Ghia 1500 Coupe (Type 34).

I like that DB-5 Shooting Brake, would pay several hundred for one.

Wasn't that also called a "Variant" or am I mixing that up with another VW?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,672
    Yep, it's the Type 34 VW K-G 1500.

Shifty I believe Variant is a term used for a station wagon by VW and other Euro makes, in particular IIRC it was the name applied to EDM versions of what we knew as the "Squareback"

Oh, okay. I think I was confusing it with this Type 3 "variant", a notchback that we do not see very often in the USA:

The Ford Delivery Wagon looks like a '56 to me. The one parked next to the '59 Olds looks more like a '59 Buick than a '59 Chevy (the rear fins are on an upward angle (Buick) rather than flat angle (Chevy). Then a Beatle and a '56 Chevy followed by a '56 Plymouth. The white one past the '56 Plymouth looks like a '56 Ford to me (thicker side trim than a '55) followed by a '58 Ford Wagon, a '56 Chevy, a '56 Oldsmobile, a '59 Rambler, and then another '59 Chevy.

What's interesting to me in that photo is a) how many Chevys there are, and b) how all of them are pretty much base level cars--nothin' fancy in this town.

True. You go to car shows today, and you think all they made back then were two-door hardtops and convertibles, with continental kits and fender skirts!

Probably about twelve years ago, out back at our now-closed local Chevy dealer, back in their "make me an offer" row, was a steel-blue and white '58 Chevy DelRay 2-door sedan, six with stick ("No Warranty", can you imagine that?!). It was open and one of the lube stickers on the door jamb said "Lu Lyman Chevrolet", which was two owners before the current owner of the Chevy dealership!

A salesman told me the original owner, who could barely walk, traded it on a Geo Metro w/5-speed (seriously).

Probably three years later, I saw the Delray at our downtown car show. It looked wonderful--and authentic. I appreciated seeing it the way it was built--a handsome, base-model Chevy. I admired them for not pimping it all up. They had restored and painted it as original and had even found either NOS or repro (I can't remember) correct dog-dish hubcaps for it. That may not be money-smart, but sometimes you just gotta do your car the way you want it.

I haven't seen the show in years, but didn't Rockford run people's credit before taking on a case?
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,518
Hmmm... don't remember that, exactly... but, it could have happened. I've lost a lot of brain cells since the '70s...

Yes, it's an Alfa-Romeo 164 LS , more of a physical sibling to the Thema and the (Fiat) Croma, than a spiritual one.

Based on what I have read and heard, the Alfa with it's terrific engine and well-sorted handling, was easily the best of the cars that shared that common chassis.

I went over to Hemmings and played the video.
After they started it up there was a puddle under the radiator.
Maybe it's just a loose clamp or something like that.
The interior is original and pretty washed out looking.
Exterior looks great. I really like it.

    Alfa Junior

That's correct, as far as it goes Fin but Alfa produced a series of 1300GT Juniors with a 2 place Zagato body in place of the now-classic four-place Bertone body. Thus the car depicted is known as the Alfa-Romeo GT1300 Junior Zagato (or simply "Junior Z" for short.)
