Lagonda sedan is worth about $20,000--$25,000 for a nice one all sorted, no problems, lookin' good, etc. If you shopped with a basket of money in your possession, most sellers would probably take $18,000.

    LaForza
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
Yup it is a LaForza. So rare that the only ones I've seen was in the duPont Registry in the early 90's when they were worth something. You can't even find pics of them on the web except a couple I found from one site. :confuse:

It shows that rare luxury cars like that from unknown manufacturers are not the best investments.

Anyone can tell it's a Jeep but who can tell us the Manufacturer, MY and designator for this one?

I had the Jeep part though!

Let's see, other than Willy's, I think Ford assembled them during WWII, and AMerican Bantam sounds familiar. SO, I will go with Bantam 1950.

Of course, I might also be hallucinating this all.

    No, it's not a Bantam.

I'll guess a 48 Willys. Sure is primitive
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
    Pretty close Fin, it's a '47 Willys Jeep CJ-2A.
It's primitive cuz essentially it's an update of the Willys MB which is the classic WW II Jeep.

Frankly, I like them just because they're primitive. It probably weighs about half what
    a luxed-up Wrangler does. :P

Bantam built the first Jeep-style vehicles but the Army, concerned about their limited financial resources, decided to award production contracts to Willys and Ford. American Bantam Motors folded shortly afterwards.

'54 Chevy - Woody? I thought the woodies were covered with wood on the side, not just the windows.

    2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,

  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,599
Yep it's a 54. The 52-54 Chevy woodies were only partial, just like the other GM woodies.

The people who bought 54 Chevies must have been pissed with the 55s came out...the 54s suddenly looked prehistoric.
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,717
I found a pic of a BelAir Townsman, but this doesn't have the side chrome in the middle vertically like the Bel Air. Anyone know the name for the "cheap" model?

According to the ad, this particular '54 Chevy wagon was labelled as a "Suburban". I'd thought that was reserved for truck-based sws. Anyone know the scoop on that?

Is it a 1975 Pontiac Grandville? My aunt's boyfriend (are they still boyfriends at 76?) had one of these up until just a few years ago. It was his daily driver.

    MG Arnolt IIRC

About the LaForza, they show up on ebay fairly often. That thing was just 5 or 6 years ahead of its time. Ford V8 I think
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
The LaForza did use a Ford 5.0L V8. It's funny with that the Pontiac Grandville came up cause I was at my 10 year high school reunion tonight and one of the guys actually has one in white with 80k original miles.

    MG Arnolt IIRC

Yep, it's usually rendered in reverse order, i.e."Arnolt MG". It's an interesting car, basically a '53 MG-TD fitted with a Bertone body (coupe or cabrio). It was the brainchild of an American industrialist named Stanley Arnholt who ordered a hundred from Bertone.

Certainly an Opel from c.1966 - I'll guess it's a Diplomat, as it kind of looks like a Matchbox Diplomat from the same period.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
It's a '64 Opel Rekord, except for the roofline it looks a lot like a contemporary Chevy II.

    red 1st then green.

Looks like an early ('64/) Cobra 289 (based ont he scoop), and a Morgan which could be old or from last week I guess, but probably newer than the Cobra

I'll have to say it's a trick question, and indeed the red car is oldest.

The green car is a MGTF c.54-55. I am not sure what the red car is, apart from being some kind of early 50s Italian job.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
The red car is the oldest by a year, a '53 Siata
208S Spider, power was by a Fiat 8V engine (so-called because Fiat assumed that Ford Motor had trademarked "V8").It closely resembles
early Ferraris that wore Vignale coachwork.

so I didn't do too go with cars older than me. Maybe I should look closer at these little pictures.

The new green one is a jeep without a grill (tyring to trick us?) I think it is a Jeepster.

    Aussie built Mercury Capri
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
And that's a base model, because the turbo had that ugly rear spoiler.

Nice exterior design but it was FWD and had poor quality control, so it never really challenged the Miata.

Wasn't that the third brake light? Since it was an Aussie design, that country didn't require it and it was oh so tastefully tacked on.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,681
actaully, Porsche had the worst one (I think on the convertible) early on. Looked like Mr. Crabs' eye sitting up on a big stalk, poking out of the air intake grid.

Probably a '90, though the block headlights were available '90 - '93, IIRC. The '88-'89 had pop-up lights and the '94+ had projector beam type lights.
