'66 Valiant 100? Bet my '72 Duster shared some parts with it.

That's the car they shave the rear part of the roof off of to make the 64 barracuda.

    '73 or '74 Monte Carlo.

Don't recall those coming with Rally Wheels, though.

It's a '74. Rallye Wheels look a little off with Whitewalls IMO.

Like the car, but not sure about the color. But brown's where very popular in the 70's just like greens. Thinking back to those days, I'd have probably bought it back then.

    1964 Mercury Marauder.

Not nuts about the front end on the 64, but I always liked Marauders. Something a bit different, yet cool about them.

What other car does that front grille remind me of?

I like that '64 Mercury Montclair Marauder, too. Got a nice, clean flow to it's lines.

I am not a big car fan, or old American cars in general. But I will say, there was a huge improvement in styling by they mid-60s vs. the late 50s/early 60s.

I really like the 65-66 Fords (Fairlanes I guess) too.

I don't usually, but for some reason I started liking even the 1962 Dodge Dart design!

    Actually it's the peformance version, sold as a 2007 BMW Z4M Coupe/E86.
There's no doubt BMW's nomenclature has gotten awkward and inconsistent.

I keep trying to rationalize the purchase of one of these. I might have missed my turn. The newest one is a 2008, I think.

The 62 design is a little out there, perhaps partially due to a sudden, unexpected fast downsizing order from above, but the size and long hood, shorter deck kind of came to define subsequent mid-sizers for quite awhile (maybe the 65 Coronet had something to do with that success).

Tastes differ, but that's not a problem. If you start liking the 1961 Plymouth, though, get help.

Well the M is pricey but "normal" Z4s are cheap right now. AND you get improvements over the Z3, like a glass rear window and more deluxe appointments.

And, I assume, no more rear suspension pulling out its mounting bolts from the chassis?
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Oh I think that was welds breaking IIRC.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,164
That's a big part of the problem, here's a description from a (much) longer post on a BMW forum:

"The Z3 chassis was originally designed for the 1.9 M44 four cylinder engine developing 138 horsepower. From 1997 to 2002 BMW introduced progressively larger displacement/horsepower engines, from the 2.5 M52 six developing 170 horsepower through the final 3.2 S54 ///M version in 01' and 02' developing 315 horsepower. However, BMW did not re-engineer the chassis to handle the additional horsepower. There was also a problem of undetermined origin at the Spartanburg plant that effected the spot welding of the trunk floor and frame crossmember. These two issues combined have led to many failed trunk floors, differential mounts, and the frame cross member that joins them to the trunk floor. This issue has led to a catastrophic failure of the system on several Z3's, and can potentially destroy your car, leading to cost prohibitive repairs into the many thousands of dollars. "

It's repairable but you'd be nuts not to take an old Z3 through a PPI.

Is the beached tree trunk a clue for Lake Erie? There were way more than that piled up on Superior. :)

    How about Daytona?

    How about Daytona?

The 1957 Ohio plate is a prominent visual clue but no that is not Lake Erie, that's a lot of surf for the Great Lakes on a warm sunny day. The consensus at HMN is that is most likely Daytona Beach. Note the collection of dead bugs on the front from the ride down.

Who wants to nail year and model?

You might be surprised, pretty good waves on the Great Lakes at times (this near Cleveland):
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
We got big waves on Da Lake during our UP sojourn, but I never saw much sand that I wanted to try to drive on. When it was firm enough, it was frozen. :D

Yep, the Buick is indeed a 1956 Century. The '57 had longer and slightly taller fins.>

I've never seen your '58 either but here's WAG, it resembles some Pinifarina designs a bit so perhaps a top of the line Fiat?

The portholes on the '56 were rounder too. I could believe the Fiat WAG but I kinda expect more from Fiat.

    G'day

This one has been bugging me. It looks almost Soviet era Russian, but I don't think so. Body stance to wheel placement makes me wonder if it is a foreign built body on a US chassis. The only place I can really think of that was doing this in the 1960s (suggested by ponton styling and remnants of fins) was South America.

    I will be interested

    Cheers

We had one of those (for a month). Not the same car, and no M version.

    Neat car. Not for me.
