In front of the '54 Ford is a Plymouth. Its wheels' white "beauty rings" make it a 1947.

Hino Contessa. Hino had a brief period where it made cars, now only making trucks and buses. I don't think the cars were ever sold in NA (or maybe even not outside of Japan) when new.

Yep, that's a Hino Contessa 1300 Sprint Coupe, styled by Michelotti, the same guy that did the Triumph TR-4. The Sprint was obviously inspired by the second gen Corvair.

Definitely cribbed the Corvair light design.

From Pop Snap - Vancouver, February 1978 (I hope clicking on image enlarges it):

They sold the Hino Contessa in Europe - not in UK despite RHD but I've seen, and even posted, pictures of one in Holland. The Contessa did evolve from a licence built version of the Renault 750/4CV which was assembled in Japan in the late fifties.

Well the tan colour car was sold in UK as a Datsun 120Y Sunny but possibly you had it as a Nissan? EDIT
And possibly not as a 120. Did they use this body shell for a 140Y or similar with you?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,528
We had it as the Datsun B210. They were quite common on the west coast back in the day, I remember being interested in the honeycomb pattern hubcaps when I was a little kid.

We didn't get Nissan badged cars until 1981, or so?

somewhere around there. In about 84 I think they were being badged Nissan by Datsun still.

1974 or so Dart on the right with the vinyl roof. And a snazzy red Granada (a 76?) next to the VW Westphalia (if they called the camper van that at that time). Mid 60s Valiant next to the 73ish blue Chevelle

I think "Datsun by Nissan" started for model year 1981 or 1982, and stuck around for a year or two depending on the model.

My '85 300z was badged Nissan but still had components stamped Datsun.

The white car parked ahead of the Datsun is a Citroen DS , by '78 they would have become quite rare since it didn't sell much in the US. That one looks like a top of the line model

I'll pick of the 59 Galaxie and what looks like a 56 Fairlane beside it. I also see a white bullet nose Studebaker convertible in the background.
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
I'll grab the first two 59 Chevy's then
  • tmarttmart Member Posts: 2,403
There's another 59 Ford on the second row.

Being a hardtop, the '56 Ford would be a Fairlane Victoria

That's a Renault Dauphine next to the '59 Chevy. The Dauphine actually outsold the VW Beetle for a couple of years in the late 50s. I imagine buyers appreciated the practicality of the four doors but the Beetle/Bug regained the import crown as word of the Renault's dismal reliability got around. Volkswagen remained the best-selling import label until Datsun took over in the late 60s/early 70s

Are you sure it's a Dauphine?  Trunk looks different, as do the fenders.

Now that you mention it, it looks too big for a Dauphine and the indentation on the rear doesn't match the Renault. I don't know what the heck it is. Anyone?

My first impression was that it is a '49 Chevy, but I can't be sure.

Yeah I don't see a Dauphine, I see a 49-51 Chevy, to the right of it another 57 Chevy, and to the right from there, a ~50 Mercury coupe,
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
You're right guys. I was thrown off by the busy appearance of the lower trunk. There's a bumper guard that was probably an option like this one>

    That trunk badge shouts 1952.
    I'll stick with its being a 1952.

Triumph TR-7. Probably about a 1978? Obviously the convertible! I looked at a used one (a black "spyder" model), probably back around 1990 or so. I kind of liked it, but did not pull trigger.

I met a guy in college who owned one when he lived in the Bay Area. Sold it and got a late 70's (downsized) Grand Prix instead.

I will pick off a few. At center right, partially obscured large dark car, Bentley S2/S3 Continental (I suppose it could also be a Rolls-Royce variant, but those are much less common).

Top level center, obscured by some wood framing, an Anglia 105E, another to the right with stuff on the roof, another two tone Anglia a couple rows ahead to the left, and another at the top parked beside a VW van.

Two tone car parked on the street at left, far side, looks like a Vauxhall Victor FA. Across from it looks like a MG 1100/1300.

    I think I spot 3 Renaults, a 17 and a couple of 12s.

I see several modern Fords in the pic, along with BMC Landcrabs and Farinas.

I can't see my image either - it was there when I posted it but not now... And neither link works for me....
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
    try again

  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
Fin you were right on the Bentley - a four door continental flying Spur, I think - and the Rolls was much rarer so less likely.

Can't see any Renault 17, but there is a 16, two 12s and an R10. And that two tone 1100 is either an MG or a Riley Kestrel.

I think the oldest car is the one in the lower centre of the image next to the writing on the road..... (although the car beyond the MG1100 is another possible).

What I like is that in this town centre car park two cars at least have suitcases tied on the roof ... Not much chance of that now. Not many foreign cars - except Renault and that VW I can only see one Italian and two other French...
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
Well - they've gone again now... I really don't know why they just disappear
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
I'm trying to find out. Meanwhile, why don't you submit a trouble ticket by clicking on "help" at the bottom of this page?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,528
    D'oh, I meant Renault 16.

Old car near the writing on the road - Morris Oxford?

Two cars in front of the 1100 is a Cortina, and in front of that, a Fiat , I assume a 124 - probably too early to be a Lada. Directly across the street from the Fiat (in front of the landcrab), an Alfa Berlina? Although it doesn't seem 100% right in the A-pillar, hard to tell at this resolution.

Really weird with the pics, they appeared for me when I reposted, then vanished. Just copy the URL and paste it or right click to open image in new tab.
