Michaell, congrats on your purchase. Personally I'd rather have one "fresh" off the boat to one that has been sitting on a lot for a few months in the sun getting test driven by kids. Also no miles as in a dealer trade.

When I did a quick configure of a 2014 Mustang using this site, the incentive was listed as 2k. On the right of the screen was an ad that has 3K or 1K and zero % for 60 months.
I looked on the Ford.com site and they have a $3,000 rebate. I have also found, when searching for Escapes and Fusions across the state, that the rebate may change depending where the dealer is located.

Finally someone hits on the real problem. The unions don't have that great an influence on the costs of educating a child. The politicians want us to think that the unions do, but it's not true. I can show you stats from schools within Ohio where children perform much higher than proportional to the cost of the staff; others where they don't perform as well. And I can find stats for the opposite. The difference? The home.
As to the staffing costs, the one party against paying teachers here always talks about 85% or 90% of the cost of the school district was spent on the people. Yup, while they avoided the $120,000 principals and $140,000 superintendent's salaries, they complained about the $40,000 teachers. However, a school is mostly comprised of staff from bus drivers to secretaries to teachers AND the all important sports coaches.
As to testing results measuring the efficacy of educations received in various districts when Ohio started copying Minnesota's testing for education system (they actually forgot to take out the name "Minnesota" in a few places when they entered the bill), after a couple of rounds of testing, the Plain Dealer determined the correlation in 9th grade test results matched with the income level, the number of college degree parents, the single parent households, and a couple of other factors .
Didn't match up to the union activism or opposite for the schools.
However the certain party of politicians, and their friends, determined that money was to be made with private schools for profit. So here come Charter Schools as the savior. But they ain't performed as well let alone equal like all the talk from one party in the State House here in Columbus. And after years of exposes of who and how much money they made and how poor some off the operations of charter schools were, the truth is out. It's just like Washington--it's benefits for donors and friends. Look up White Hat schools IIRC.
The one party in Columbus promised that all these Charter Schools would "fix" education. They would tout results of an example school And in education the republicans in the state wanted to fix the unions and teacher cost rather than fix the home and societal problems that need the fixing.
In education, it's the home that needed fixing. When people grow up in EBT and WIX and homes where there is no father or even a responsible mother, you get more and more single women feeling society should provide their income. That even starts with high schoolers feeling they are owed a living and all they do is work the system with babies and benefits.
Just saw a letter in the Enquirer about exactly that entitlement upbringing training the next generation's expectations. http://www.cincinnati.com/story/opinion/readers/2014/04/13/raising-kids-is-no-job--for-another-child/7588611/ "I am a CPS teacher at an inner-city school, and I will tell you this: Kids having kids is THE cause of "poverty, violence, fatherlessness, drugs and lack of education." Your editorial, however, only lists things "we" must now do after the fact!
How about instead "we" get serious about ways to disincentivise teen pregnancies, so that there will be fewer young teens having and mismanaging the children that they have? Raising kids successfully is hard enough for two adults to do. It is no job for another child."

Farmer, I have never had a problem with pricing cars (well, I think the layout now is not as good as it used to be, but it works fine). Problem is almost definitely on your end. I was going to suggest a different browser, but now think you have a different issue if it does not work on an ipad either.
I wonder if your problem is your cable internet/wireless system? Though that should mess you up on other sites too. Acid test is to stream some show or movie. If that works, then you have connectivity!
Try doing it from some other computer location (public library? car dealer service waiting area?). To use the price function, you don't even need to log in.

Your comments about the costs of Public Schools is pretty much on target. No question that most of the money expended goes to salaries because, after all, services to students include bus drivers, teachers, teacher aides, secretaries, janitors, grounds keepers, principals, superintendents, assistant superintendents, deputy superintendents, health professionals, coaches, etc., etc., etc. Building construction is not as costly as it once was - school systems are losing students, especially in suburban school systems where there are declining enrollments. Cities, on the other hand, have declining enrollments in some sections and increasing enrollments in others, depending upon location.
Your comments about raising children is 100% on target. Without support and assistance from a family for their children and the schools themselves, public education is doomed, no matter where the school system is located - suburban, city, rural. When I was a kid, all the students came from a "family" of two parents, and if only one parent was in the home, that one parent was just as supportive as if there were two parents in the home. Now, with one and two parent families, the parent(s) are all working to keep food on the table and a roof over their heads. The family structure has changed so significantly over the past 20 years that it is really unrecognizable in many cases.
As for unions (AFT, NEA), they are still invested in protecting their own - and I mean the incompetent teachers. It is still so very difficult to rid the schools of incompetent staff - almost impossible - and if you are relentless as a principal over a 5 to 10 year period of time - documenting and redocumenting poor teaching still has only a 50% chance of getting rid of the teacher. There is no need for tenure - tenure protects good people - but it protects mostly bad people. I stated that unions were a necessity due to the substandard pay teachers received - and in many cases still receive But in large school districts, teachers are earning upwards of $80,000 to $100,000 a year - check out New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, to name a few. But in most cases, to attract young people to the profession, you must pay them what they are worth, not what they should be paid according to some salary scale or schedule.
No, babes raising babes is a terrible crime to humanity. But, there is nothing that will change that unless the family structure returns to where it was 20 or 30 years ago.

Congratulations....sounds like an easy sale/buy for everyone concerned. Not much drama, which is a good thing. Good timing too, getting a fresh one off the boat. You are very fortunate not to have DOC fees.

Oh, we have doc fees here in Colorado (I've seen them as high as $699), it's just this particular dealer group that doesn't have them (MINI, BMW and Honda). But, they are a 'one price' store as well, so it all evens out.

I was with my wife and it was pouring rain, we got out of the car and ran into the mall. My wife got out of the car first, and she ran ahead of me. When I got out I couldn't lock the doors, my remote key wasn't in my pocket. At first, I panicked and wondered where I could have lost it - the car did get us there. Then I realized, I forgot the key at home, but I must have started the car (keyless) and driven using my wife's key, which was in her purse. By the time I met her in the mall I was soaking wet, but had to use her key to go back part way to lock the car doors. I wish I knew then that I probably could have done it from the mall if I held the key up to my head...of course, people would think I was nuts.....but, it would have saved me from going back into the rain.

There is a Toyota dealer near Tampa that advertises they never charge you DOC fees, which could be as much as $699. (I wonder why that is a mgic number, maybe dealers know any more than that and people will rebel). I really wonder if it means anything......does it just mean the other dealer will discount the car an extra $699, or will you really save that much. At least you don't have to fight to get that $699 reduction in cost - which I guess is a good thing.
2017 MB E400 , 2015 MB GLK350, 2014 MB C250
I think for some buyers the final cost is exactly the same, but many others will go for "lower price" offered by those other guys. High fees allow dealers to advertise lower price than actually paid and/or make higher profit by moving reference line of discussion for those who know less.

VISIT TO THE CASINO FOR DINNER PAYS OFF IN SPADES!
As most of you know, I take Dad for dinner every Sunday at 4:00 PM at the Casino because I get comped most of the time. This afternoon, we got to the Casino a bit early because of all the rain we've been having (4" since 7:00 AM this morning). I parked in the garage and we ended up at one of my favorite "penny" machines. I had some free play that they give me ($100) so I put my player's card into the slot machine and withdrew the $100.00. I play maximum bet ($2.50 per spin) so that you have a chance to win their jackpot (which isn't that much on a penny machine).
I played for a while and I hit $100 (10,000 credits for selecting the correct "butterfly"on a spin). So I played some more and won 15,000 credits ($150.00). So I had some "play" credits so I could play for a while.
I'm sitting there at the machine next to the one I hit those mini-jackpots and I go through almost all the money I won plus the free play money. Then, I hit these diamonds which was $1250.00, which requires the guy to take my license and social security number, etc. So I ended up winning about $1375.00 in total. We go to the restaurant and order our meal, had some champagne, some gelato and I had a coupon which they mail me once a month for an $80.00 credit. So, I ended up the afternoon, after dinner and tip, with a total of $1300.00 ahead. Not bad for a "penny" machine.
If I could be guaranteed of winning every time I went, I could make a living out of that. But, alas, you always end up putting it all back. But for this time, it goes into the bank.

Dino, I would think that most of us here on SFTSF forum and CCBA know enough to not let those fees ruin a good deal. The key is to go in and make an "out the door offer" which takes into consideration the fees the dealer charges. Most of us are pretty savvy to those dealer fee tricks. Unfortunately, so many buyers out there do not know that the fees are negotiable so long as you make an out the door offer.
If a dealer will not accept that offer, you merely go to another dealer and make that same offer, informing the second dealer that you had stopped by dealer A, and are looking to beat their price - or something like that. Dealer fees here in Florida are outrageous - they average $699.00 per car - which is pure profit to the dealer. You, me, and the rest of us on this forum are well aware of how to make that dealer fee go away, right?
2024 Genesis G90 Super-Charger
If course. The problem is that so many people here do not know, so they pay up. Some markets seem worse than others. It's not just dealer fees. Tallahassee dealer had an audacity to put ADM sticker on their mall display of.... Mazda 626. It was around 2000 so quite different times then today, but still gives an idea how bad it is, especially that 626 wasn't even so hot. I so a similar ADM at Hondaland couple of years ago on a Civic Coupe, equally shocking, if not more. Think about it, Civic, one of the highest volume car, nothing special, typical commodity product and they think it could mark it up and perhaps somebody bites, or at least they move the chains so they can claim you got X dollars off some phoney price. You and I know it doesn't mean a thing, but how many people get duped by that and how many years will it take yo rid of that? I must say, as much sceptical I am about Tesla, I really want them to succeed if only for the challenge on the franchise system.

Sounds like you have it down on the slots. I don't mind losing if I get to play for a while but the last month has been bad. I stick to the under $3 slots like you -- don't lose all that much but a plus $1000 winner hasn't happened in 4 years. Saw a few former high rollers that used to spend all their time in the High Limit room. They're all playing the 2-3 dollar slots now. The one thing about gambling is that no matter how much money you have, the casinos will relieve you of every cent if given the chance. Once I hit my modest limit I quit. Sounds like you have the same philosophy.
"Once I hit my modest limit I quit. Sounds like you have the same philosophy."
Definitely! I like to plat the 1, 2, and 5 machines - that way you can bet maximum so you qualify for the jackpot or the progressive jackpot. I won $13000+ last December on a $1.80 bet. You don't win often, but you don't lose a lot either. This is the fourth time in 3 months I 'be won that $1250 jackpot. They do pay off - you just have to be patient and know when to stop.

I'll occasionally bet on horses but I set the amount I can lose and stop at that point. The thrill of winning doesn't balance the agony of losing. The only way I can tolerate losing is to assume that whatever that limit is has been lost before I start.

I can't gamble. never win, and I am way too cheap to actually lose. Drives me nuts. About the only gambling I actually do is my annual Saratoga track day in August (a family event). I pick a $ amount, depending on how rich I feel, and put it on a voucher. If it is gone after 8 races, I just drink beer the rest of the day and watch the horsies go.

Just don't forget next tax season about that 1099 they filled out on your winnings.
A buddy did forget one time and it triggered an audit and a penalty.
Congratulations!
3 Jewish people were shot and killed in Kansas City today. The suspect being held reportedly exclaimed, "Heil Hitler!" Good God, this never seems to end. If it's not kids in schools killing other kids, it's racism or anti semitism that shows it's ugly head.
I didn't even know Jewish people lived in the Corn Belt. Leave it to neo-[non-permissible content removed] to uncover their whereabouts. Are there no safe havens left in this world where people can live as they choose?
If it had been African Americans shot or Muslims shot, there would be hell to pay! But kill a few innocent Jews - haven't heard any uproars from the Muslim Community, the Black Community, or any other religious or secular community - not even from the White House! "Just don't forget next tax season about that 1099 they filled out on your winnings."
No problem - I keep those 1099's in an envelope for tax season. Since I usually lose more than I win, I just write it off as gambling losses on the itemized deductions. I keep all my receipts when I use my debit card always and a log as to the dates I play. The casino also can print out a gambling losses statement - losses over coin in machines they call it.
2024 Genesis G90 Super-Charger
If you gamble a few times a week, you can only hope to break even. The only 1099's you need to worry about are any big jackpots 100k -500k etc. Keeping a journal that shows money bet -won and lost is key. A big payoff may need a quarterly payment just in case. Never had to worry about that. Still looking for a payoff that will need a withholding deduction. I'd be happy to fork over 30k after hitting a 100k jackpot.
"If you gamble a few times a week, you can only hope to break even."
No question about it. All I hope for is to beak even - I look at visits to the casino as a form of entertainment. It kills some time and I don't play the dollar or 5 dollar machines. I play penny, 2 cent and 5 cent machines. On penny and 2 cent machines I bet the maximum. On 5 cent machines, I bet 42 nickels ($2.10). I usually end up losing, but every month so far this year, I've hit $1200 or more - but I still barely break even.
But I just see it as a form of entertainment, nothing more. I just can't stay too long because of all the smoke.

This is true. 76% water, if memory serves me. When I worked on the car business, I used to take a key out of the dealership Key-Trac system (key drawers controlled by a computer with passwords) and go to the new car lot and hold the key fob under my chin and then press the panic button so the horn and lights would lead me to where the car was on the lot.
I guess I could have pressed it against any part of my body - who knew. I was instructed to use my chin - what can I say!

Yes, it was on the TV and Cable news stations, but for a newspaper that has the 2nd largest circulation in the State of Florida, to not mention even one word about the shootings reeks big time, especially when there is some evidence it was a hate crime and anti-semitic. The guy thought he was killing an elderly Jew and a young 14 year old boy, but they weren't even Jewish. Then he goes to a Jewish Retirement Institution and kills another - yelling anti semitic slurs while he was killing. Like I said previously, for a major newspaper to make no mention of that attack is incredulous!
In many communities where there is a JCC (Jewish Community Center), anyone can join - because there is no restriction on membership. On 60 Minutes last night, they had a 40 minute segment on Pope Francis - an excellent in-depth interview with a Rabbi from Argentina - one of the Pope's best friends. That Rabbi and the Pope met at the local JCC in Buenos Aires.

It has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not I do or don't feel better. My disbelief has to do with the fact that if there was any other shooting in Kansas that dealt with any other minority, the Sun Sentinel would have had a first page expose on the shootings. But they didn't even mention it on the very last page of the paper - not one word - like it never happened. Why would a major newspaper decide not to print a story about the awful tragedy? It's like it never happened to the newspaper's publisher and editors. I guess they just want the issue to die. I am sure I am not the only south Floridian amazed at this omission.
I was hoping to find out more about the shootings, about the guy who did the killing, something. But nothing! We all know that 3 people killed in hateful shootings (or even mentally ill "shootings") would have made it to page one or two - but this was obviously a calculated decision by the publishers and editors to make no mention of this.
So it has nothing to do with my being happy - it has to do with political decisions a newspaper made about not publishing anything about an awful crime. That's pathetic!

Amazing - they picked up the story on their website at 7:19 AM this morning, but never published anything about it in their daily newspaper. What can I say?
So, it would seem that these were, in fact, hate crimes, aimed at the Jewish Community. How sad that this KKK leader killed two people (grandson and grandfather) who weren't even Jewish. If this guy was a long-time "anti-semite", and a previous KKK big shot, how come the FBI weren't on this guy's tail? Who knows!
I am not Jewish, but nevertheless, crimes against humanity are just intolerable to me. Hate crimes are the very, very worst of crimes because these killers have genocide on their minds - the systematic destruction of either a race of people or a group of people centered around a religion or belief. I'm not saying that the shootings in schools are not horrible - they are - but it's the hate crimes that are the scariest.

By the way, jwilliams, that you so very much for sharing this website and included article with use here on the SFTSF forum. I still maintain that to publish nothing about the crime in their daily newspaper was obviously a calculated omission - it couldn't have been anything else.

Our local rag is essentially out of business now because all they ever carried were their local one-sided politics and the same politics from the national media via the NY Times and the AP which are connected if I understand. Even now they get most of their news from the AP,, and the Editor can't seem to understand their coverage is biased. But they would get most of the coverage from the AP or NY Times bylines.
So my point is that the national services will be carrying this story with their slant since it involves someone they can smear as right wing or extremist or racist. The only thing better to increase their coverage would be it is had involved automatic or semiautomatic firearms which they love to pitch against.
