Very interesting reading. Kind of makes you wonder if it won't happen sooner with all the earthquakes, sunamis, hurricanes, tornadoes, and other "acts of God" we been having in the last 5 years. The end is getting near.
On another note, the website mentions some of these predictions were made by Edgar Cayce (who lived in Va Beach!)
Coincidentally, I sold a 98 Avalon to his son in the summer of 98. I saw him about two years ago and he still has the car. I remember distinctly since one of the sales girls (who is now a service writer) had met him on the lot but she had somewhere to go so she turned him over to me. When I got the keys to the car and were leaving for the test drive he smiled and said to me: "I bet she'll be pretty upset If I end up buying a car from you." I didn't say anything at the time, when we got back to the store we did a bit of negotiation and made the deal. He traded an old Camry requested that I deliver the car to his home on a Friday evening.
They had just adopted a Mexican baby and the wife didn't want to leave the house. I joked with him that I would come over and teach them some Spanish so they could communicate with the baby!
Anyways that's my sales story for today. I do have a doosy from today with three women! Every man's dream! One Mexican, one American, and one Asian.
I met quite a few guys who had a wife and family in the USA and also in the Phillippines How they managed that I don't know. Some would volunteer to swap ships so they could go on six month WestPac cruises. For those of you that don't know, the Philippines Island is known as an "Adult's Disneyland" Then there were two guys I knew that married pregnant women. They were already 7 months pregnant when they met!
"...They couldn't find any correlation between magnetic fields and health issues..."
Right, but by the time the scam artists, fear mongers, anti-capitalists and media hypesters got through, people were fleeing their houses and throwing out their microwave ovens so the "bad radiation" didn't get them.
Yet those who caused millions in harm to all those people were never called to answer for the panic they started.
Now it's starting again. I wonder how many gallons of gas will be wasted because someone got afraid of the magnetic fields in a hybrid and kept driving a SUV.

You’re right about the bad timing but that car’s design was on the drawing board a long time ago so they had to follow through with it. Probably the same with the new Nissan fast machine. However, those that can truly afford those cars aren’t worried about the price of gas. It’s all about speed.
Most of us would shutter with the insurance cost of those things. Gas that’s a necessary evil for that life style. :surprise:

Does the price of Gas really matter? It will all be over in 2012 anways
This is one reason that even though there is a 500 million year history of advanced life on this planet, there is virtually no evidence of it.
Darn, I almost missed this one.
All I can say is, it ain’t our fault. Blame this on those carefree ancestors of ours. If they only had an inkling that we’d have survived this long they would have taught us how to take better care of this place and to not advance to this point. Especially the invention of the car to make our life easier. That in a way made our streets cleaner; at least we can walk across them without the fear of stepping in something. Has anyone given any thought about how much more contaminated soap and water we’d be dumping in our rivers and streams then?
We sure did get ourselves hooked on that one; then they raise the price of gas to the point we’re thinking about giving up all that convenience. Maybe even going back to the horse itself.

If you liked this, you may want to read the theory from where I come from.
According to Indian astronomy and Hindu Mythology, the world is created, destroyed and recreated every 4,320,000 years. There are 4 such epochs or era, and called the Satya Yuga (or Krita Yuga), the Treta Yuga, the Dvapara Yuga and finally the Kali Yuga. We are currently living in the Kali Yuga, which is characterized as follows:
"In the Kali Yuga, there will be numerous rulers vying with each other. They will have no character. Violence, falsehood and wickedness will be the order of the day. Piety and good nature will dwindle slowly... Passion and lust will be the only attraction between the sexes. Women will be the objects of sensual pleasure. Dishonest will be the bottom line of subsistence. Learned people will be ridiculed and put to shame; the word of the wealthy person will be the only law."
he Hindu texts say the four yugas equal 4,320,000 years, or a mahayuga. 1,000 mahayugas or 4.32 billion years equal one kalpa. The traditional timescale of the yugas is as follows:
1. Satya Yuga or Krita Yuga - 1,728,000 years 2. Treta Yuga - 1,296,000 years 3. Dvapara Yuga - 864,000 years 4. Kali Yuga - 432,000 years

I was driving through your neck of the woods (I-91 South) on Sunday night and there was a pretty bad accident. 4 or 5 cars and a Motorcycle. Did you hear anything about it?
just to stay on topic...How was the Land Rover business on Memorial Day?
2001 Prelude Type SH, 2022 Highlander XLE AWD, 2025 Camry SE AWD
An article in the business section of the Courier Journal a couple days ago spoke of the big hits in depreciation large SUV's are getting. Billyjoel and isell have been speaking of the hard hits consumers are getting when trying to trade in these behemoths.
A guy brought his 2005 Escalade, with 70,000 miles, into Bob Montgomery Honda Chevrolet. The used car manager told the owner that if gas was $3 a gallon the Escalade would have a resale value of $29,000. But with gas selling at $4 a gallon, the Escalade could only be resold for $14,000. The customer passed... almost passed out.
Well, I ain't in the biz, anymore... but that sounds like a crock to me. A $15,000 difference because gas is $1 more??? I can see maybe a 5 or 6k loss on expensive SUV's, but not 15k. I only drive about 7k miles a year... maybe I'll pick me up an Escalade this afternoon. :shades:
If that particular dealer happens to actually have a 2005 Escalade on his lot go see what you can buy it for and watch him change his tune. He would probably say something like, "Yes all the smart people are trying to get good buys on SUVS right now and that has really driven the price up".
No offense to our dealer friends here but car salesmen are a lot like politicians and for the same reasons. They have to make a living.
..."Yes all the smart people are trying to get good buys on SUVS right now and that has really driven the price up".
I've thought the same thing and if I didn't want to waste the time of a salesman who might otherwise be talking to a real buyer I could prove this theory.
We all know that used cars are the real money makers but it would be interesting to hear the sales talk now. Afterall, anytime you show interest in something at a dealership you're going to hear a line of some type but now trying to buy a guzzler it ought to be especially entertaining.

Richard was feeling a bit insecure so we thought he needed a little reassurance. I had no idea it was contagious but be assured that we like all of you.
"...he lost his 1974 case before the Supremes by an 8-0 vote."
The vote was only 8-0 because the justices agreed before hearing arguments that the decision would have to be unanimous. After all, Nixon had appointed four of the justices during his administration.
More importantly, Nixon won the 1992 case of Richard Nixon vs. The United States of America.
Nope didn't hear anything about an accident on I-91 but I rarely ever watch the local news. I rarely read the Courant either as it is just a sad excuse for a paper. I read the Times of London, Wall Street Journal or the New York Times more then just about any thing else.
We were closed on Memorial day but Friday and Saturday was kind of busy. My co-worker sold two cars on Saturday and we both delivered cars Friday. I also sold a car Tuesday and today and my co-worker sold one car Monday too.
We are seeing about a $3-$4K difference between now and January.
BTW, I don't care if gas was $1 a gallon I wouldn't give $29K for a 75K mile Escalade. After RECON you would have close to $30.5K in the damn thing before profit.
I agree I sold a very nice, nearly perfect Escalade ESV with about that many miles on it six weeks ago. This car was as perfect as could be and had every single oil change done at the local Caddy dealer at 3,000 to 4,000 miles. I had all the maintenance history and it sold fast. I have to check and see exactly what it sold for but I think it was around 23,000.
I thought about that when I read his post. Then I didn't have time to check to see if the Chief Justice is only needed in a tie situation. I'm more inclined to believe that you are correct.
The '92 case was more important than the one that triggered his resignation?
Right
And the vote was 8-0 because 8 voted one way and zero voted the other. The ninth justice (Rehnquist) recused himself.
When the Chief Justice votes with the majority, he is responsible for assigning the justice who will write the opinion. If the Chief is in the minority, the senior justice in the majority makes the assignment. In the case under discussion, Chief Justice Burger wrote the opinion of the court.
"When the Chief Justice votes with the majority,..."
You're absolutely correct. You beat me to my research. BTW, you missed my emotorcon which was a Of course the 1974 case was more important. At least the 1992 case projected monetary payments in his favor. Still, we have to give credit where credit is due. The China policy, the Vietnam withdrawal, the formation of EPA, SSI, OBM, etc. were good things that he did. His paranoia was a terrible weakness that ruined his presidency. On his death bed, he gave his daughters the famous V-sign. What a fighter.
To stay on topic: What kind of cars do Supreme Court Justices drive? Any kind that they want. :P
I noticed our local LR dealer was closed Monday as well, thought Monday would be a big car shopping especially since the weather here wasn't BBQ friendly. Was that all LR dealers? BTW, heard anything from lrguy lately? Haven't seen much of him since he left for vacation, maybe he never came back or has he just had enough of this place?

In my area it's normal to see the older cars appear on lawn around town at this time of year. It was always my assumption that these were less desirable miled-up cars that the dealers didn't want and so the customer was selling them privately.
Lately, I've been seeing more late model SUV's out on the lawns too. Today I passed a SUV that was all pimped-out and shiny. It had custom 22" wheels and lots of chrome. The owner had put all sorts of signs and flags on it to attract attention in a sort of desperate way.
I expect to see a lot more lawn sales like that. The panic has started and the sheep are starting to run. I wonder how many will sell good larger cars and lose more money on the panic sale than they will ever save on gas?
