Thanks duke. I appreciate that. I understood your post. Yes, I believe that it was $1 million in sales to get the pink caddy. Sorry that I can't answer the music trivia, but I enjoy seeing them posted.

That was a headline of an article on AOL News this morning. It had an attitude which seemed to say "You've got these guys on the ropes, now take your revenge".

Quite mean spirited in my opinion.

Do you sales folks have more people coming in these days with a "gotcha" attitude? Worse yet, do they come in blaming you for the gas prices?

BTW, Mack I just got around to reading your blog. Sorry for your trouble. :(

The concept of building up to a high physio-psychological stressed level and then running a commercial was questioned as being deleterious to the physical health because of the unreleased tension.

I nominate Richard64 (you can thank me later ;) ) to be the keeper of the scrolls to be sure that Mack has finished his tales and doesn't cause further negative effects to the health of the readers who enjoy is great stories so much here. Lord knows my health has had many negative things happen and I don't need any more.

    "I nominate Richard 64..."

I am overwhelmed by the confidence and trust which you have bestowed upon me as related to the literary sagas offered by one Mackabee. In a democracy, the election process should consist of two or more nominees in order for the citizens to have choices and to make selections. Therefore, I place in nomination a fine, experienced candidate by the name of jipster. He has the aggressiveness, the knowledge base, and the youth factor to get it done. :)

BTW, you did an excellent job as Richard III while I was on vacation. I think that gogiboy should nominate you. :surprise:

To stay on topic: The winner should receive a new Toyota as payment for services rendered. :D

Shooo... you keep writing stuff like that and you got my vote.

But, I'll accept a nomination. I've already lined up a few guests to speak on my behalf at next weeks fund raiser. i.e Lil Kim, Lil Sailor, pch101, tbaxxon, kristie and madmanmooooo!

Mac said he would finish his stories, but if he wants to throw the winner a bone now and then, by leaving a hanging "To Be Continued", ... that would be lovely.

I awoke this morning to the sad news that Mr. Tony Snow (1955-2008) has lost his battle with colon cancer. I've followed his progress since he was diagnosed and was a big fan of his, rooting for him the rest of the way. May God bless his soul and he rest in peace.

I haven't read past this post, so I hope I'm the first to instantly recognize the unmistakable voice of Stevie Winwood singing "Low Spark of High Heeled Boys." (Hmmmm, why does the term "High Heeled Boys" make me think of most of Deskman's customers...?)

And as the group is named Traffic, as in much traffic into auto sales showrooms, we're on topic..

I hereby second the nomination for Richard64 to be Keeper of the Scrolls. A challenging position to keep track of all the half stories, quarter stories and potential stories. This would be in addition to his second role he is performing for the current administration, Guardian of the Grammar. I raise a toast ! What say ye all?

You guys are good, classic Steve Winwood it was.

Do you sales folks have more people coming in these days with a "gotcha" attitude?

Once in a while you'll get one, but I haven't seen an increase.

People will always use their techniques on us like "your inventory is high, cars aren't moving, nobody wants these gas guzzlers," and so on.

On occasion you'll have a goofball come in with a big mouth who has no intention of buying a car, and most likely doesn't own one, and will blame everything on us (dealerships, car industry), and predict that we'll have to shut our doors soon, cause "nobody is buying" our product, and that people are switching from cars to (insert here whatever the flavour of the day is: hybrids, Segways, bicycles, plug in electrics, scooters, hovercrafts, donkeys..whatever).

Then when you ask him what he drives, he'll stutter a bit, and quickly make something up and spit it out. And I'm thinking, buddy, I can tell you're full of it by the way you just answered that. :lemon:

Usually a rookie ups ends up with someone like this, and the goofball whino will spit out 5 minutes of above said rant, in an escalating voice as he heads out the door to his imaginary car.

Those things get said in these forums too.

I just hate it when a customer tries to justify a stupid offer by telling me how bad the economy is, how we're in a recession etc.

Usually the same person with the 150,000 mile Expidition that wants "book" value for it when it isn't worth half that much.

They pull in on a hot summer day with the windows down.

" Oh is your air conditioning not working?"

" Yeah, it probabaly just needs a charge"

    It has 150,000 miles!"

" Oh, but they are all freeway miles"

" You know, the gas mileage really isn't all that bad"...RIGHT!

Then they will tell me how they see them "going" on Craig's List for 8000.00.

This is when they start telling me how bad things are in the US and hw they are getting worse.
  • carhag2000carhag2000 Member Posts: 207
" Yeah, it probabaly just needs a charge"
Sir/Madam, your cars ac is a closed loop system and any coolant thats not there HAD to go somewhere. therefore I have to deduct for the cost of finding/fixing a leak.

" Oh, but they are all freeway miles"
Oh, how I love this one. " Hmm, highway miles...Is that 2 lane or 4 lane? Gravel or paved?"

"going" on Craig's List for 8000.00.

Oh, they are? Well go home turn your computer on and punch the button.
    What button?
You know the one that prints the check for that amount and spits it out the back.

Sorry but with people like these, my sarcasm tends to run a bit thick.

Has temporarily lost it's usual number one spot to the Hyundai Genesis forum. They are starting to hit the dealerships and reviews, Edmunds and posters have been positive.I have to admit, it's a good looking automobile. I think they may have picked a rotten time for the introduction.Their MSRP + goals may start to fade within six months. Probably lots of leases to start.

As an aside, went to school in G'ville Fl, (go gators) and went with some friends one evening to a local watering hole called the Longbranch Saloon. They had this local band playing that night called Mudcrutch. Weird name I thought but ok, we'll pay the $2 cover. The band was pretty decent but the lead singer had a great voice. A guy by the name of Tom Petty. His father was a insurance broker in the area. This was of course a few years before he packed his bags for LA and struck it rich with the Heartbreakers.Winwood & Petty, That's a show and a half !

    Keeping on multiple topics :

Everybody's desperate trying to make ends meet
Work all day, still can't pay the price of gasoline and meat
    Alas, their lives are incomplete

    Level = tough

Oh, but they are all freeway miles

I'm sure you know that's a 2-way street as I've heard the same line of bull from a sales person. My usual response is "miles is miles".
  • duke23duke23 Member Posts: 488
My usual response is "miles is miles". A pretty good response. Freeway miles is hillarious. In the classifieds they use " gentle " freeway miles. Gentle is better than turbulent I guess.

People complain about the price of gas, but few try to conserve it. During my three hour drive to the beach this morning, I drove 55mph on the two lane roads and 65mph on the four lane roads. Motorists constantly passed me doing 80 or 90 driving SUV's, large sedans, etc. My trip took about 15 minutes longer than usual. By using cruise and maintaining a normal speed, I really saved gas. I'm willing to give up an extra 15 minutes for that savings. Also, I'm learning that I can coast down hills quite a bit before I have to hit the gas again. My Sebring convertible averaged 27.2 mpg. When I returned, I filled up for $3.97 per gallon here in the Pinehurst area.

I sincerely apologize Richard. I took my kid's 93 Camry in for a state inspection and an oil change, then my new friend Ruby showed up in her 2009 Corolla XLE that she practically stole from us before it became a hot item. I promised I would install her rain guards when they came in. Well, they came in. She called me as I was taking a bite of my favorite Chipotle Mexican Grill offerings. I told her I would be back in about 10 minutes.
When I got to the showroom she was sitting on my chair like she owned the thing. We walked over to the parts department and picked up the rain guards. I drove the car into our delivery area and called my partner Tiny to give me a hand putting them on. I had only done this once before to another customer's Camry so I just needed someone to watch and make sure I aligned the pieces correctly. We were done in about 20 minutes. I drove the car back to her and she was very happy. I also showed her how to pull up video messages on her cell phone. She was delighted! I did have to dig the phone out of the trunk. I don't know why she keeps it there. She does have the Bluetooth function and I taught her how to use that when she picked up the car. So anyway, to make a short story longer ;)

Right after she left I came upon a couple and their young friend. The lady had just returned from Italy last Thursday and was in search of an automobile. She had a Corolla S before leaving to Italy that she sold as they would not allow her to import it into the country. So now she wants another Corolla. I showed them an LE and found out she works in HR with the US Navy and her hubby is active duty. We talked at lenght, drove the car and then came back to look at Tundras as hubby has a Dodge Dakota that he wants to trade in. I get a phone call around 6pm letting me know my car is ready. I keep talking with the customers and then we go look at the Tundras. By the time we were done she asked me to call her as soon as an S model Corolla gets in which will be sometime next week. They are using his truck to go to work and it's inconvenient as she works regular hours and he has to follow Navy hours. We say goodbye and I give them a brochure on the Corolla and the Tundra. I asked her if she wanted to reserve one of the incoming ones but she said no as she wants a blue one instead of the silver and gray we have coming.
Soooo. By this time it's 5 minutes till 7pm and I remember I have to pick up the keys to my car otherwise I have to call home to get someone to come and bring me an extra key. I walk to the service department and all the lights are out. OH NO!!!! not again! This happened to me once before and I ended up driving a pre-owned Corolla home. I didn't want to go through the hassle again. Lucky for me Tiny offered to give me a ride home to get the key and also drove me back. So I completely forgot to check on the Solara. :(

I promise to check first thing Monday and get back to you. I'm not working tomorrow or rather later today. Going night night now. :)

We were out and about yesterday, and came upon a car accident involving a NEW CR-V-EXL and another car. The CR-V had back-ended the other car. IT was intense; the front end of the CR-V was a mess, as was the car in front, as it was pushed into the car in front of it.

We knew that it was a new CR-V, due to the dealer tag on the back, and the sticker on the window. I know the answer to this, but anyway, we assume that the driver of CR-V is liable with his insurance (assuming the potential buyer was at the wheel), correct? Certainly dealerships wouldn't eat this accident, would they? If the salesman was at fault, does HIS insurance cover it?

Lastly, I assume that if the vehicle was totaled, it would treated like a privately owned car. Somebody is going to take quite an insurance hit!

Have any of you "veteran" salesmen ever been in such a situation, or aware of one? It was quite 'heartbreaking' to see that CR-V is such bad shape! Thanks in advance!

You guys are really showing your age. Good thing I've got an OLDER sister who played these songs when I was YOUNG so I can pick them up.

    Mack.....Mustang Sally-Wilson Pickett

    duke....Sounds of Silence-Simon and Garfunkel

kyfdx.....I had tickets to Petty/Winwood. Had a work crisis (seems like everything's a crisis right now for work) and missed it. Read the review.....must have been a good concert.

Back to vehicles......ran into two quasi sales related instances only yesterday. First one, I'm a BBQ junky. While my 'burg isn't really known for it's BBQ, there is one place that I believe stands above all others 'round here. As I was traveling to it, I very accidentally came upon the NAOC (National Associaltion Oldsmobile Club) in a parking lot near the BBQ place. Stopped by impromptu. Pretty impressive...given that Oldsmobile is dead and their hey days pretty long ago. Some very sharp Rocket 88s from the 50s and 60s. A couple tasty '60s era 4-4-2s. Some chrome drenched ones from the 40s and 50s. Most were 4 sale.

Could have picked up a cherry 4-4-2 for about $25K. To me, the best iron there was the first gen Toronados. Big (and I mean BIG) huge V8s with FWD. I wished I was more knowledgeable about the worth of antique cars. I may have pulled the trigger on one.

There's a local school for the deaf that holds a summer festival every year to raise money of the school. They always have really nice vehicles to raffle off. This year, it's twin Harley's. I volunteer to work at this festival every year. I think I must have bought $50 worth of tickets for the Harleys. We'll find out today whether I win (fingers crossed). Not exactly sure what I'll do with them if I do win. My motorcycle days are in the past. And, the biggest two wheeler I ever owned was of the 750cc variety. I thought that was big. I'm not one of the "grey bearded recapture my youth" brigade that cruises around in packs on these bikes either.

"...Then they will tell me how they see them "going" on Craig's List for $8000.00..."

Craig's List can be very entertaining. There are a few real gems in there too. One thing I remember learning here is that if the car has a "story" it's probably better to pass.

My favorite CL story started like this: "The car ran great until my son tried to change the fuel filter and broke off the fuel line. I'm too old and fat to fix it."

Got to give the seller points for honesty. :)
