Well, on the East coast, a lot of people are buying them. Especially the newer SUVs (Santa Fe, Veracruz). Very nice units, and well built at a good price.
I of course have no idea what the used market is like, but their is prbably a big difference between a clean 2004-5 and a miled up 1995!
I got to sit in a Genesis (a guy I know works for COrporate, so he had one well before they came out). Amazingly nice, and huge inside. Cover the badges, and it could easily pass for a Lexus. Nicer by far than a 300C too. I did not drive one, so can't speak to that.
ANyway, the US manufacutrers poo-poo'd Honda and Toyota and Nissan based on their early efforts, and you know how that turned out. Get too cocky, and get chopped off at the knees.
my explorer is in the body shop after getting hit. i have an '07 edge as a loaner from enterprise. it is an se-awd with about 35k on it. a few months ago i bought an awd fusion, but the edge is a pretty good drive. 3.5 and 6 speed are smooth and have plenty of power. the color (i'm calling atomic pumpkin) is causing quite a stir on my street(i live in connecticut). so far, 2 neighbors have called and another pulled into the driveway to ask me about it. my kids are trying to convince my wife to get one to replace her '04 escape(it will be handed down), but she wants an '09 escape hybrid.
2024 Ford F-150 STX, 2023 Ford Explorer ST, 91 Mustang GT vert
My son's 5 year old Elantra has been sterling. Only thing he's done to it in 90,000 miles are brakes, oil/filter changes, tires, timing belt. Still original battery plugs and clutch (probably the things that he should fix next). I wouldn't have any worries whatsoever in driving it cross country the way it is right now.
But, isell is right. Resale is below dismal. My son's driving it until he graduates college (next year). When he's got the degree and that first post college job, bank of Dad will be closed.
This is the first time in the graphicguy household where there's 3 vehicles that I'd consider "hits". My son's Hyundai, my Tahoe and 3 series. And, that's in 30 years of driving I could actually say that.
The Tahoe is creeping up on two years old. It's built very well. Nice materials inside and out. Drives well (for what it does). Couldn't say that about a Caddy I had for a time. As we all know, resale on it is just as dismal as it is on a Hyundai right now (maybe worse). I've got the feeling it's going to be with me for a good while longer. Hope that good luck keeps up (and the General keeps putting quality at the top of the list of "to dos").
The 3 Series is coming near the end of its warranty period. BMW covered the only few service stops it needed....even oil changes. Great car. Don't know that I'll lay down another ~$40K for another car, though. It's fun. It's luxurious. It's in a class by itself. $40K is a lot of money for any car, though. And, a new one, with the turbo engine would cost me even more.
After helping a friend shop for an Accord, I don't know that you can get something better for the money. Ride/handling come mighty close to my 3. And, hers had all the "gee gaws" (sattelite radio, nav, blue tooth, nice stereo, nice leather and fitments). Everything in it was just as nice as anything in my BMW. Plus, the Nav is much better....all for about $20K less than a loaded up 3 Series.
There may very well be an Accord EX-L in my future given gas prices. No more paying for premium gas, to boot.
I was looking to trade my 2006 Pontiac G6 GTP Sedan for new GM vehicle, possibly a G6 coupe or convertible.
The recent college discount came out to about $1500 plus I could still get either 0% financing for up to 72 months or an additional $2500. I decided to wait to see if cash incentives got better after the 0% financing deal was over. As of July 8th the cash back is only $500 or $1000 depending on the engine.
With sales down why did the incentives get worse? I will probably end up ditching GM and going with another toyota or maybe a nissan. They are giving just as good incentives and the cars have a much better residual value.
Why do you want to get out of a 2006 car this early in the game? To me, a car that new is barely broken in.
When I was younger, I traded frequently & wondered why I never had any money. Now I keep cars for at least 8 years - long enough so that I can pay cash for the next car. Much easier on the bank account.
My 8 year old Elantra with 150k+ miles has been problem free. My daughters 5 year old one with almost 100K has been also. I know a few Toyota/Honda owners that are seriously looking at Hyundai.
2011 Hyundai Sonata, 2014 BMW 428i convertible, 2015 Honda CTX700D
The warranty is ended and I am getting a little nervous because it was a  rental car. If I had more money at the time I would have never bought a rental but you can't really beat a 4 month old car with 6000 miles for half the original MSRP. It is also terrible on gas. I am either sitting in traffic or driving back roads and I only have been getting 15 worst - 20 best mpg over 2 years. Even just going going down to the GT model will save me $500+ a year on gas, plus I would have the warranty that lasts longer then the two years it took to get to 36k miles.
My girlfriend is driving a fully loaded Camry hybrid. Her gas and car payment per month are less than my costs...plus the residual value on her car is 1000x better.
Camry Hybrid Payment $400x12 = 4800 Gas ((18000 miles/37mpg)*4.10) = 1995 Total = 6795
G6 GTP Payment $250x12 = 3000 Gas ((18000 miles/18 mpg)*4.10) = 4100 Total = 7100
If I go with the Nissan which has better resale...
Nissan Altima Couple (4 cly) Payment $335x12 = 4020 Gas ((18000 miles/24mpg)*4.10) =3075 Total = 7095
Besides all that....what's up with the incentives....I was expecting them to go up another 500-1000 and instead they went down 1500-2000.
I would love to buy a newer car for the wife's 50th. But, I seem to have a rather large problem.. A few years ago I was hurt bad at work. Bills were paid, but some were late. Credit score dropped way down.I finally got back to work. I got a settlement, I paid allmost all bills. I got refinanced recentlly at less interest. I have been keeping up and paying extra on all bills. I found out recentlly that the wife has been not paying her credit card on time. Every time I get ahead, I fall back. All bills are up to date, Just not on time. That has been changed. My question is, how do I stand with a dealer? Is there anything that I can do now ? Her 50th is in September. I have about $1,500 for down payment. I do not have a trade in as hers is a "96" 4-door blazer with 200K. Also a "93" F-250 4X4 extended, with huge motor. I work for the same company for14 yrs.She has been at her same job for16rs. Should I just get the wood flooring for the house, or is there a way for this to happen?
Besides all that....what's up with the incentives....I was expecting them to go up another 500-1000 and instead they went down 1500-2000.
Rebates change like the weather. Be patient, when they want to move units the rebates will follow. Concentrate on the research so when the rebates arrive you can pounce on a good deal.
Having hot pants will only cost you more in the long run.
Make it easy on yourself, start researching now.

Graphic guy. I'm at a BMW dealership in Dallas Tx. Sales here are up 8.6% over last year.
The economy in Texas is stronger than almost every other state. BMW national sales are down, but BMW business is booming here the great state of Texas.
People do come in after looking at national sales figures, and try to grind out a deal on a 1 series, or X6. I just laugh........
I have an idea which may help solve Mack's "to be continued" sagas. We'll ask the Hosts to hold each story post until the conclusion arrives. If the conclusion doesn't arrive within 72 hours, then the story post can be permanently deleted. All of those in favor, please raise your posts.
I'm still waiting on the Jim Gridell conclusion. If it doesn't appear by tomorrow, I am going to skip all future stories. It is time for a boycott.

Yeah... put me down for some of that "boycott" stuff.
On second thought, I have a better idea on getting "mackamaybe" stories completed in a timely manner. Any story that "mackamaybe" doesn't complete within 24 hours, the jipster completes for him... using the writing and composition style that jipster is famous for! :P

I think I need to learn Russian so I can sell a couple more cars. I've picked up about 5 calls in the past two days and 3 of them were from Russia and looking for us to export cars.
You are correct. "Sic" is mainly used for spelling errors, but can be used for other errors such as missing words, capitalization errors, grammatical mistakes, etc. In this case, he didn't capitalize "no". BTW, your command of the English language is excellent. I wish that I had done as well with Urdu.
That is a fabulous idea! Maybe we could take turns. Why don't you try the Jim Gridell story tomorrow? He was the elderly guy who wanted to trade his Toyota van for a new one. This may put Mack into fifth gear. Leave it to Team Jipster to find solutions.

Something to learn today! Thank you for the compliment on my English. I should thank the British for their rule in India, because as luck would have it India did not have a common language during that time (still does not) across all states and the only way the different princely states could talk to each other and negotiate as well as fight the British was to use the enemies language! Apart from that I have to thank the numerous novels that I read during my school years, and as I made plans to come to the US, my preparation to ace the TOEFL.
After I came to the states, I find that I am correcting the spelling and usage of my US born colleagues use of English from time to time. In fact, one of my colleagues often makes me proof read her most important emails before she sends them off ! :shades:
We used to do "serials" on another forum and they were FUN. One poster would just start a story and write a few lines. The next guy would pick up from there and then others would just keep it going. Let's give it a try....

Huyndai has come a LONG way but for most people they are "still a Hyundai"
Because of dismal resale, they are great buys as used cars but few people want them and they usually end up being taken to the auction.
