Sale price w/ destination charge , state Tax , dealers doc fee charge , dmv fee's round out your OTD pricing.

    $24,777 x 9% or 9.5% =. $ 27,007... plus $80 doc fee = $27,087 + dmv fee's + tags = ..your total OTD price

Newbie here. In the market for a 2018 Accord EX. I'm in NJ. The best quote received so far is 26,500 out of the door. (Includes TTL, Destination, Documentation and Dealer Accessories). Should I settle for this or can it get any better?

    Thanks for you help!

    Tom

    Hi,
I'm also in the market for 20018 Accord EX. The dealership I went to asked for over $28k out the door. I told them the max I can do is $26,500 and they turned me down. I live in SoCal by the way.

Does anyone know how much people are paying out the door price for the 2018 EX trim in Southern California?

    Greatly appreciate your inputs.
Keep shopping. There are about eleventy-seven Honda dealers in SoCal; contact as many as you're willing to travel to (Ventura, Orange, Riverside Counties?) and see what kind of pricing you get.

Deals should improve as we get closer to the end of the month. Current programs expire on 9/4, so Labor Day weekend might be the right time to shop.
    Hi Michaell,

Could you please help me calculate what the OTD price would be if I was given the this info from the dealership:

"Invoice price on new 2018 Honda Accord EX is $26,277. Your selling price with some additional savings due to Labor Day will be $24,777".

    Again, I'm from southern california.

    Thanks in advance!
Hi I'm in SoCal as well, can you forward that price via email or disclose which dealership or sales guy you're dealing with. I want to get a Hybrid I'm open to EX or EX-L. Thanks!

Hi I'm looking for a 2018 EX or EXL Hybrid Accord the lowest price I've gotten is 29k OTD in SoCal. Can I do better?

Purchased an EX-L over the weekend. $26,580 + $300 doc = $26,880 sale price + $1,910 TTL (Maryland) - $500 (some kind of financing promotion they used to get to my OTD price) = $28,290 OTD.

Hey jshcars. Can I ask what dealer in MD? I'm looking for EX-L as well. Gotten as low as $28,500 online, but haven't been into that dealer yet.

    Thanks!

    Hi Neeters81,
    That dealer is https://www.oceanhondawhittier.com/
With that price they offered 24,777, OTD price will be around 27,750. I'm waiting for this weekend to see if they can lower that a little more. Good luck. Please share if you can find better deals :)

People, no one gives a sht about the OTD price since we are all living in different states. Just mention what the MSRP is and what the discount off of MSRP was and thats it. Rest of the BS please keep to yourself as it only confuses people. Example, I am in Washington state.. the discounts off MSRP I am getting on the Touring (MSRP: $35K) is $2.5K or $32.5K plus tax, title and other bs. Mention doc fee separately as it can range from $100 to $500 or above.

By the way, the best deals i have found are in the east coast. West coast totally sucks for deals and in particular Washington. Suggestion to Wa buyers, buy elsewhere even Portland dealers offer better pricing. King County dealers suck.

I am looking for a hybrid Touring model and will probably buy from the east coast and drive it back and save myself about $3K but will end up spending about $1K. Unsure if savings are worth the time and effort.

You can look into having the car shipped. A friend of mine bought a car in Kentucky and had it shipped to Colorado. I think it was around $800 or so.

Anybody have numbers for the Accord EX in NJ / PA / NY area ?

    Hey everyone,

I am buying my first new car here shortly, and I am looking at the 2018 Honda Accord Sport. I have test driven the car and researched the True Car value (around 24,500$). While leaving, the dealer said he could get me close to the True Car value and OTD for around 27,000$. What should be a realistic target here? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Never use truecar. Negotiate your own deal. I got $2k below TruePrice on my Touring 2.0t. Aim for $1500-2000 below invoice. Invoice can be found with very little research and may vary slightly based on website.

Ya TrueCar caters more towards dealers than consumers.
I got an EX for $1500 below TrueCar average and so have others.

I agree with rman. OTD prices are almost useless and it does make it more confusing. Just tell us how much the dealer charged for the car, leave out any charges that the dealer has no control over so we can compare apples to apples.

I would agree if people are only providing the OTD. I provided a breakdown of everything and it was relevant because, for me, the dealer was working backwards from our negotiated OTD. To get there in a way that worked out for them, they added a $500 "down payment" at the back end instead of lowering the sales price by $500. If you only saw my sale price, it would look $500 higher than it really was. Also, more than once I have seen the opposite -- someone posts a low sales price with an unusually high OTD price -- suggesting that a lot was thrown in at the end in order for the dealer to claim an artificially low sales price. More info is better, especially given the games that dealerships play.

I considered this but am reluctant to take the risk of damage during shipping. The shipping carriers will say they have insurance etc before shipping but we all know after they deliver a scratched and dented car their insurance company will give you a run around until you give up. Plus it will cost a lot more than $800 for sure.. more like $1200 I think. I had a car shipped in 2000 and it cost me $1000 then.

Let me make a slight adjustment in my earlier post on what to reveal regarding the deal you got. All we need is this: MSRP with destination included, Discount off of MSRP dealer has provided, DOC fee charged and finally the cost of the dealer add ons they forced you to buy. Thats it!. Dont mention tax you paid or OTD or any other crap as we really dont give a whit.
  • rman667rman667 Member Posts: 12
Anyone have experience buying car from DCH Academy in NY area?. What was cost of dealer add ons they fored you to buy? Doc fee?.

You are free to ask folks to follow these guidelines, but don't expect them to follow them. The OTD debate has raged on these prices paid boards for years, with no resolution.

You can always do better than Truecar average pricing. In case you were not aware, Truecar gets paid a finder's fee by dealerships. Hence, if you go with Truecar, you are not always getting the lowest price on a car.

Truecar and other car buying services are geared towards folks who like "no-haggle" pricing and believe they are getting a good deal. It is not geared for folks on this forum.

TrueCar average is BS, but if you pull up the TrueCar price curve, I have found that the low point on the curve is usually pretty accurate and represents a good deal.

Hello All- I’m going to take a look at used 2018 Touring 1.5t at a my local Honda dealer.  The car has only 800 miles and their asking price is $29,467.  The dealer did tell me that this car was bought directly from Honda so I imagine it was a press car?

Anyway, without much hassle and over email, I got them down to $28,000.  How much more do you think I can get off the sale price?

    Thanks,

Are you set on buying a used Accord? How big of a price difference is a new one?
MSRP for a new Touring 1.5T is $34,695. Invoice price is about $31,799. Assuming you can get between $2500 to $3000 below invoice pricing, I would go for a new model if I were in your shoes.
Check with the dealer whether they are offering any finance incentives on a new 2018 model, that might knock the price down further.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the response.  I was thinking 1500-2000 below invoice was the best one can do on a new one.  Saying that, I’m not set on getting a used, would prefer a new one of course, but I figured if I could get a great deal on a lightly used one, I’d do that.

But if I can get 2500-3000 below invoice, then a brand new one would be more appealing.  Im located in North Jersey, so if anyone has a dealership in mind that they could recommend, please feel free to chime in.  Thx

You could start with the dealership selling the used Touring and see what type of pricing they are offering on a new model.
If you look through the pages on this thread, I am sure you will see the names of some reputable NJ dealerships.
@brian125 and @jerseydevil01 might be able to help.

Normal negotiations should not you 1500-2000 below invoice. The 1.5 Touring has a $1000 incentive from Honda to the dealer to move them therefore your target should be 2500-3000 below invoice. Just see where the pricing ends up on both. New may have better interest rates than used from honda. You may be able to choose your color combo for new. Used you are stuck with that one option.

    @gdauti

Buy new . Finance rates will be better and a 1000 dealer cash incentive will help them lower your sale price.

Check out DCH Academy NJ website & stock, make them a offer on a model you like. You should be able to nail down a price of $2500 below invoice price excluding there 400 doc fee's. Who knows you may be able to do better. Do the same thing with all NJ & targeted dealerships that have your model..

You may also want to get some prices from dealers in eastern Pa if possible. In Pa the doc fees are about 140 compared to in NJ where they are 400 to 500. Also NJ tends to have a lot of addons where in Pa. not as much. In my deal back in june I bought in south jersey at honda of Turnersville @ 2300 below invoice and all addons included at no cost. This price included the 1000 incentive on a touring 1.5

Guys, thanks for all the tips.  If I can get a 1.5t Touring for $3k below invoice, going with it over the used one make much more sense, especially when you factor the fact that finance rates tend to be more favorable on new cars.

jerseydevil- yea the doc fee in Jersey is ridiculous.  I’m in Northeast NJ and pretty close to NY, so I may give NY dealership a try as the doc fee there is $75 (last I checked).

Good luck. Being the last day of the month, some dealers might be eager to deal (if they need to meet their sales quota). Use some of the tactics laid out in this forum by reaching out to internet managers and telling them what your BUY TODAY price is. They will either say yes or no.
Your best bet might be to find a dealer that has a lot of Touring 1.5T models on their lot, in the color combo you want.
Post back when you have some numbers. Do not fall for the "come into the dealership" games that some dealers might try to pull. Negotiate via phone or email, and only walk in to inspect the car and sign the papers.
If you cannot make a deal this month, you always have next month.

    Hello everyone,

I have gotten an offer for a 2018 Honda Accord Sport 1.5 CVT

    Car: 23,350
    Dealer fee: 899
    Tax: 1450
Other little fees (battery, tire, state, etc.)
OTD Price: 25,780 plus tag (before trade in is discussed)

I haven't done any negotiating yet in person, and I think I can get the car down 300$ or more. I do have two competing offers from other local dealers that are around the same prcie. My goal OTD is 25,400 plus tag beofre trade in is discussed. Should I be looking for a better deal, or is this good? Today is the last day of the month and they have a high inventory on the lot, have to think they are willing to drop lower. I appreictae any and all insight from you guys.

You are at about $1100 below invoice before those outrageous doc fees. Where are you located? FL? I would aim for at least $1500 below invoice before doc fees. Have you reached out to other dealers further away from you that might have a better offer and lower doc fees?

Yes I'm in South Florida. I will send some emails out this morning for my buy today price, thank you for the idea. This is the price from my local dealer where I test drove the car, and I told him I have two competing offers at 25,600 OTD (both local). He said he can beat it, so I hope I can bring the price down to offset the doc fees. If I don't find what I'm looking for, I don't mind waiting until next month (end of Q3)

I'd recommend calling up internet managers (the decision makers) and putting them on the spot. If they say No to your price, no need to waste time and just move on to the next dealer. Regarding your local dealer, no need to play the "I will beat other dealer's pricing" game. Put them on the spot and let them know what price will get your business today, plain and simple.
Are there any finance incentives such as flex cash offered on the 1.5 Sports?
    Good luck.

$27,150 would be $5,710 below MSRP for that car. I don;t see how that is possible. That would more likely be for the EXL 1.5 engine

Honda Cars of Boston (date 7/11/18)

I can absolutely provide you with the Out The Door pricing for the 2018 Honda Accord Ex-L 2.0T !!! Also, the college grad or military are not included in this pricing, but with proof of graduation or military served then you most definitely quailify !

    2018 Honda Accord EX-L 2.0T $ 27,157.00
    Dealer Documentation Fee $ 398.00
MA State Inspection Sticker $ 35.00
Title and Registration (NEW Plates) $ 140.00
MA State Sales Tax $ 1,722.19
    Total OTD Price $ 29,452.19
dmcc224 Do you have contact info for the sales person that gave you that quote? I am also in New England (< 50 miles from Boston) and looking for a 2018 2.0T EXL also.

And - How do you like the car? I drove the 1.5 and 2.0 Sports this last weekend and I have a nagging feeling that the 1.5 is underpowered (couldn't tell from the test drive). Also I wanted leather and heated seats which puts me into another EXL not a Sport.

    thanks
    Sales rep was/is Jalisa Berberena.

I don't have a 2018....yet. I've been thinking about trading up to a 2018 2.0t but my 2016 EXL V6 is all paid off. I have been keeping my ear to the ground though, for the right price I would move up to the 2018. Honda Bostons price is the best I've seen thus far.

I wanted to follow up on this post for the benefit of everyone on the forum.

First, that deal is real (my numbers look different because the price includes the dealer doc fee that dmcc224 had quoted separately, but net net I paid the same 27157 + 398) - I just bought a 2018 2.0T EX-L in White/Ivory from Honda cars of Boston. I am happy to share an image of the purchase paperwork if that is permitted.

This was an out of state purchase (I live in an adjacent state but work in Boston) s the dealer didnt to title, taxes, plates etc, I did that - why? read on.....

I contacted 17 Honda dealers by email (their internet sales person and their general manager) within a radius around my home and work. Only nine of them responded to me at all. None of them could come close to the price - nearest I go was some $1,400 more. For that savings I will go to the registry myself (MA does not do temp plates)

Jalisa was a pleasure to work with, quick and responsive. She handed off to a sales guy on the floor (Michael) but I made a point of reaching out and meeting her in person when I went to do the paperwork. I recommend her to anyone in the area looking for a Honda..

Picked the car up yesterday, it's a joy to drive, am loving the adaptive cruise control for that commute in I93, also loving the Android Auto integration as well as the creature comforts.

Styling is nifty also, really makes my 'old' 2014 EX-L on the driveway look dated in comparison.

    the numbers are :

    MSRP : $31,970
    Dlr Inv : $29,234
    Dest fee : $890
    Hold back : $639
    Dlr Cost : $29,485

    Price Paid $27,555

Plus out of state Tax, Title, Plates and the cost of my time to do this.

Once again, price is real, Jalisa is the person to contact. I wholeheartedly recommend her.

Hi all, I’m close to pulling the trigger for 2018 Honda Accord 1.5 Sport, lowest I could find is $21,800 plus $895 destination, $299 doc fees, plus tax/tag/title, OTD for $24,700. Is this good? Thanks in advance.

The invoice on this car is 24483 so you are 1788 below invoice. That is not too bad but you might be able to do a bit better buy getting dealers to try and beat it. If it is a hard to find color that might be the best you can do. The current offers from Honda expire in a couple days so you might want to wait till then and if possible make your best offer at the last couple of days of the month . Read back thru this forum and you'll find a wealth of info. Best of luck!

I noticed recent comments regarding Truecar. They DO NOT show discounted prices dealers give. A few years back (2011) they did. You could find where the discounted Honda Dealers were very easily. This forum helps identify those dealers as the instructions for car buying from @brian125 or @bluemkn57cars or @Michaell along with others help navigate the waters out there. Use Truecar as a guide or starting point but nothing more as you will find if you follow the advice of those mentioned and others, you will see prices much lower. There is a cost for less hassle free purchasing. If you do your homework, you should be able to save $1500 to $2000. As for car purchasing in Florida. It is not easy. I bought a 2017 Honda Accord Touring last year (at the end of August). I could have bought the car for about $2,000 less in Massachusetts. In hind sight, I should have paid the cash and driven the car down to Florida. Next time I will. I have found South Florida Honda dealers to be predatory in how they deal.
