I'm trying to make sense of this. I don't understand where the $27360 number comes from. Shouldn't that have been $26,641 on the pink sheet?

I just did my first ever lease deal, not sure if I got ripped off or not...

I leased a 2018 Mazda CX5 Touring - Machine Grey with Bumper rear guard. AWD. 10K Miles Yearly in Pennsylvania.

    MSRP: $28,935
Sale Price: $26,500 includes the $500 loyalty
    Doc Fee: $141
    Tag Fee: $28
    County Fee: $5.00
    Registration: $37.00 - Title Fee (-$90.15) = -$53.15
    Pa Tire Tax: $5.00
Online Title and Registration Fee: $15.15
    Total: $26,641

That was on a Pink Sheet. Now when I get to the long form paperwork. I am seeing different numbers?

Gross Capitalized Cost (Agreed value of vehicle $27360) and any items you had to pay over the lease term such as taxes, fees, service contracts, insurance or outstanding lease balances ($27,955).
    Cap cost Reduction $263.00
    Adjusted Capital Reduction: $27,691
    Residual Value: $17,394
    Depreciation: $10,297.42
    Rent Charge $16.22
    Total Base Payments: $10313.64
    Total Monthly Payments: 36
    Base Monthly Payment: $286.49
    Tax: $25.78
    Payment: $312.27

    Itemized Gross Cap Cost:
    Agreed Value vehicle: $27360.00
    Acquisition Fee: $595.00

I'm within $1 of that payment
What number were you expecting on the long form?

If you've signed the paperwork and taken delivery, there isn't much anyone can do now.

I think my confusion is I negotiated to $26,641 on the pink sheet. But on the long sheet is says the price was $27,360. I dont understand that number difference?

Secondly the "Rent Charge". I see $16.22. Shouldn't that have been $8.11?

$27,360 is from the pink sheet. "Price of Vehicle", first line under "Vehicle Information".

    Rent charge checks out to within a penny. The formula is (adj. cap. cost + residual) * MF * term. ($27,691.42 + $17,394.00) * .00001 * 36 = $16.23.

You said $26500 after rebates, right?
    $27,360 minus $860 in rebates = $26,500.

The rent charge is the monthly rent charge X lease term.
    $0.45 X 36 = $16.20

The pink sheet doesn't include the acquisition fee.

Looks good to me. You got the .00001 MF with no markup, no junk fees, all the available incentives, and the math checks out. $27,360 is below invoice for that car, so not bad at all. Someone somewhere probably paid less, but at this point no use worrying about that, just enjoy the car!

Do we have any idea what August rebates may look like at this point? Really close to pulling the trigger on a GT premium package. But may be able to hold out until August

No.. if the info got out ahead of time, they'd never be able to sell cars.

Just came back from a Mazda Dealer. This was my final offer.

CX5 GT AWD with premium package.

$359/month for 36 month, $1000 down (includes first months payment as well) for 12k miles.

Didn't do the deal. I thought that price should be for 15k miles. I felt that for 12k miles, it should be around $330.

    Will try another dealer.

    Keep us posted.
The same dealer messaged back and said will do $350/month for 12k miles, with $1000 down, inclusive of everything. With $359/month he was giving the all season floor mat, but I guess you can find that cheap anywhere.

What do you think about it now ?

Bottom line - dealers have to make money to stay in business. They can claim they are 'losing money' on a deal, but really, do you believe them? :sunglasses:

    Guys,
It is the first time I lease the car, please excuse my dummy questions.
I've got an initial offer on 2018 GT AWD with Premium package for 24/15 (60089, 7% tax county)

    MSRP $33,590
    Internet Price $31,866

    $595 Acquisition fee/$299 dealer fee
    $32,760 Adjusted capitalized cost

24 month lease 15,000 miles per year
    $490's payment with tax (460 + 32)
    $22,505 residual
    .00075 money Factor
    $657 due at signing

I feel this initial offer is not good at all. Could you please advise marked up points here?

Are you looking for a a 36-month or 24-month term? You mentioned 36 but your quote is clearly 24.

The monthly payment tends to be a bit higher for 24-month vs. 36-month leases for two reasons:
    1. The vehicle depreciates more in the first 2 years than later years, so you don't get the benefit of spreading the large initial depreciation over a longer term. For example your 24-month residual is 67%. A 36-month residual would be 57% or so, so the depreciation is 33% in the first two years and only an additional 10% for the third year.
    2. The Money factor is often higher for 24-month terms. For example for a 36-month term you could knock that .00075 MF down to .00001. Your total rent charge with your numbers for 24 months is $994.78, or $41.45/month. With a 36-month term your total rent charge would be $18.69, or $0.52/month.

What @auberon said... the CX-5 doesn't have a good lease program for 24 months.
If you want to lease this vehicle, stick to the 36 month term.

Yes, it was a misprint. The offer is for 24 months. Thanks for pointing out.

They have also sent a 36/15 offer:

36 month lease 15,000 miles per year
    $390's payment with tax
    $19,146 residual
    .00001 money Factor
    $562 due at signing

The reason why I'm looking for 24 months: initially I planned XC40 via subscription (~$750 with insurance included). I was ok with it, however my lease application was rejected due to credit history age (1 year), despite the credit score was 740.
I need a second vehicle for a short term (24) to qualify for better deal in higher segment (XC40/XC60) in 2 years. My wife's one is VW Tiguan (we share it), which I don't like at all.

Had mazda in the past, this car has all the safety features with smooth ride and does not irritate me while driving (as my current vw tiguan does :)

Probably it would be a better idea to go with 36 lease from Mazda, sell Tiguan in a few years and lease Volvo instead. Trying to come up with more profitable solution.

Thank you all, you are great.

The XC40 was our other choice, too, but the CX5 makes more financial sense without losing a ton of features (even though, yeah, the XC40 is better). The CX5 does have more cargo space. I've been happy with the CX5 the last two weeks after driving a Volvo S60 for six years.

How badly did I get worked on this deal on a 2018 Grand Touring AWD? (no PP) MSRP was $32515, which I could only seem to talk down to $31,515 to go along with 500 off for my trade-in.

12k/36 $388/month after putting first month + $1348.15 cash down.

I was in kind of a weak negotiating position, as I am currently working out of state and need an SUV before my contract ends in a month. May as well get the one I want, I figured. Of course I didn't allude to these facts, but I don't feel like i got a great deal here. My credit is also pretty poor due to heavy utilization at the moment. A large spike in income beginning 3 months ago is my only saving grace. But I digress.

I'm told MF on this deal was 0.00121 which given my credit score of 634, is in line with what I expected. My math shows it at least being near that, unless I'm completely messing up.

    How bad is it?

Sorry, should have done that. 84601 zip. GT Awd.

If you have MF, that’d be great too.

    260/mo with tax included(its like 9.5%)

I think I will try to sign with 15000 mile for 240/mo(tax included) with zero drive off. Is that possible??

    Ouch!! Bad credit is expensive!

They are correct, the money factor is .00121
The base MF is .00001. That lower credit tier added $62/mo. to your payment.

Not a great deal, otherwise, but nothing egregious, either. I would want a bigger discount, and pretty sure you could snag $1200-$1800 for your car, with a little time and craigslist hassle, but the trade-in price was probably fair.

So, you did okay. Just paying for past credit mistakes.
    Congrats on the new Mazda!

I am looking for residual values for 33/12k, 36/12k, and 36/15k if possible. Thanks a ton in advance! I really appreciate the help you all give!

    What ZIP code?
    What trim?
    FWD or AWD?
Sorry, should have done that. 84601 zip. GT Awd.

If you have MF, that’d be great too.

    Thanks again.

    33/15: .00059 MF and 59% residual
    36/15: .00001 MF and 57% residual

    Add 2% for 12K/yr
    No incentives

please take a look at my number from today, need to make a decision today or tomorrow since my car was destroyed in an accident :'(:'(:'(
    zip:91748
    CX5 FWD basic 12000 mile 36mo term
    MSRP 25345
    Selling price 24498
    residual 57% 14446
    money factor:0.0001
    rebates:$1780

    260/mo with tax included(its like 9.5%)

    Sport FWD
    .00001 MF and 57% residual
    $1780 rebate.
    (15K/yr residual is 55%)

    That's a really nice deal, if it's truly $0 drive-off.
If I roll in DMV fees, $595 acq.fee, 1st payment, tax on rebate, etc..
I get $266/mo.+tax, which is $30/mo. over your quoted deal.

I doubt you can improve on this deal.
Going to 15K/yr will add about $16/mo.

$240/mo. for 15K/yr is asking them to drop their price by $1300... It never hurts to ask for more, but I don't think that is going to happen.

Yeah my credit definitely hurt. An extra 64 a month sucks. But at least there wasn’t markup on MF or doc fees from the dealer which was what I was looking out for.

Youre totally right about my trade in. I could have sold it for 12-1400 and was planning on it. But when it came down to it, I was glad to be rid of the inconvenience of dealing with craigslist. Especially for just a few hundred dollars. Not to mention time to do the transfer and all of that.

Thanks for looking at it. I’m glad to hear it’s not egregiously bad. Just the expected amount of “bad” due to my credit which is to be expected

At the end of the day I learned a ton. This was my first new car purchase or leasing experience. And I got the exact vehicle I wanted. So I’m happy!

So, I have a final offer for 2018 CX5 GT AWD premium package, white exterior with parchment interior.

15,000 miles : $1000 down (includes first month payment), $370/month inclusive of everything
12,000 miles: $1000 down (includes first month payment), $350/month inclusive of everything

There is a difference of $700 between 12k and 15k miles. What do you guys think? I have shopped around for quite a while and seems like this is the best I have so far.

Any thoughts? Will be closing the deal today.
