Hi there, could I get the base MF and residual on the 2018 CX-5 Touring AWD (and FWD if available) for zip 02446 at 36 months, 12k miles?

    .00001 MF and 56% residual
    $360 lease cash
    Either drive
Is the MF really that low? I feel like it would have been higher. None the less thank you for that quick response!!
Don't complain - with the cost of money going up, that low MF may not last long.

    36/10?
.00001 MF and 59% residual is correct
    Also, $360 customer lease cash.

I would at least try for another $500-$800 off.

S-Plan is equal to invoice and is available to Mazda suppliers and partners.

E-Plan is equal to invoice minus 4% and is available to Mazda employees.

    Both require a PIN Certificate.

    56% is the 36/12 residual.
    36/15 is 54%

Make sure you are getting the mileage you think you are.

For 36/12, the numbers all match up.
The only way to go lower is to get a lower selling price.

    Please quote MF/Residual/Incentives: 2018 Touring FWD 24/10 and 36/10 for 94596

Does Mazda allow MSD's? (May not need MSDs with MF of .00001)

Thanks. Are you sure these numbers are right? I have a local dealer telling me the MF on 24 months is .00125 and the residual is 70%. The numbers they're telling me are:

    $394.99/m with 3k down
    $350.46/m with 4k down

Effectively $520m all in. This seems pretty crazy for a Mazda when I could get an X1 for a similar rate. They claim they can't budget on the price, 31890 MSRP and they'll go down to 31000 and that the break even is 30500 on the car.

    Does that sound right?

Dealer can mark up the MF by .00050, but cannot alter the residual.

That is a lot of money, for a Mazda. I get $454/mo, plus tax, with $0 down using your prices and the base MF of .00075.

MF markup is adding $26/mo to the payment.

Thanks. I hit them back and it turns out all those unmovable numbers moved. ;)

They've dropped the MF to .00075 and a sale price of 29300 (MSRP 31890) with 4000 down (including acq, doc, reg and a ~2250 cap cost reduction... waiting to get a full break down) which they say puts it at 229/m+tax. This seems much more reasonable.

Am I missing anything I should question them on?

    Thanks for the help!

I'd skip the large amount of up front cash. Restructure the deal to pay only first month and registration costs. You'll have a higher payment, but won't risk losing the cash if the car is stolen or totaled.

Amazing what a little knowledge will do to the dealer, if they are desperate enough to move inventory.

  • Yup, I'll restructure it to just acq/doc up-front and remove the cap cost reduction when they get back to me as this quote was for an FWD, not an AWD, so I expect it to bump by ~1400 or so. Thanks again!

Roll the acquisition fee into the payment, as well. Since the MF is practically nil, it won't cost anything.

On my Jetta lease (MF of .00005), I am paying a total of $53 in interest over 36 months.

Thanks for the tip, I'll ask them to do that tomorrow when I go in to sign. FWIW, final numbers were $33290 MSRP, $30600 sale price, .00075 MF, $897 drive off for a total of $395/m+tax.

    It's 69% for AWD, 24/10
70% for FWD (make sure you are getting what you think you are).

Thanks, I'm actually having trouble coming up with the same number as them. They show a base monthly rental of $395.02, MSRP 33,290.00, initial cap cost 30,800.00, 0.00075 rate, LEV 69% which I show coming out to $367. What am I missing?

Huh, actually, I see: INITIAL CAP COST: $ 30,800.00 and ADJUSTED CAP COST: $ 31,470.71.

Is the adjusted cap cost tax inclusive and the lease is based off that? Hm but then tax is listed separately.

Best to ask the dealer what the discrepancy is - likely the $595 acquisition fee and some extra small fee, but that's just a guess on my part.

Can I please get some feedback on what I'm missing in this deal? Something's off. I asked the dealer for a 36/10k quote with no down payment (but not a zero drive off).

    2018 CX-5 GT MSRP $31940.
    Cap cost $30747 (invoice).
They say residual 59% and mf at .00001 but a payment of $378 without tax.
When I calculate it out, I get a payment of $356 WITH tax (our rate here is 7.6%). When I asked about the difference, they said:

"Also, they require a down payment for the lease start, and you went with the zero down option, so they rolled in 1,017.65 into the 36 month payments which is where we get the difference in price. That downpayment obvously goes into the car tho not just wasted money."

    Huh?

You're both right - sort of.

I agree with your calculations, but if I add the $1018 to the CAP cost, I get $387/mo with tax ($359/mo without tax)

Your dealer structured the deal, I'm guessing, as "sign and drive" - absolutely $0 out of pocket at signing. What you want is the deal set up so you pay the first payment and any registration costs at signing only.

No lease deal "requires" a down payment - it just helps make the payment look smaller.

I'd ask them for the breakdown of the $1017.65, to see what they are adding (first payment, acquisition fee, doc fee (?) and registration, I think)

My first thought was that it was a sign and drive but the numbers still don't add up and the language about requiring a down payment strikes me as odd. He listed the fees in his message and they add up to more than $1017.65 (I get $1202.34). From his message:

"So there were a few fees that were not talked about.
    acquisition fee of 595.00
    Document fee of 349.50
    Registration fee of 74.75
    Tire tax of 5
    Property tax of 150
    And sales tax of 28.09"

They're also are telling me the residual for the 36/12k is 58% but I thought it was 57% (I'll gladly take 58%).

    58% residual is correct

What you need is a copy of the deal on a contract, or a screenshot of the deal on the computer

Thanks for confirming the 58% residual.  I'm not sure how to get them to lay out a deal on paper without me having to go to each dealership in person.  I ask for it via email but all I get is a vague or incomplete response.  Do I need to be more assertive and insist that I want hard numbers laid out before I’ll go down there? They also tell me the best deal is always going to be negotiated in person which makes sense because it’s somewhat less likely that I’ll shop their numbers around with other dealerships if they’ve got me down there.  All I know is I’m not too impressed with paying invoice on a car with a lot of inventory remaining at the end of the model year and on the last few days of October.  Should I push harder on the sale price? I’m not sure I can meet the 1% rule on a CX-5.

You'll have to get serious with at least one dealer, to get that information. If you don't like it, then start over with a second dealer.

Hey all I have an end of lease question.  I recently turned in a CX5 with 4 lease payments left, and took on a new lease.

But I realized that other than an odometer statement I signed on the old lease I didnt get a formal lease termination.  So the dealer took possession and I cancelled the insurance  on the old one but I'm worried they will try to screw me or I missed something.  Like could they come back and try to charge me for any damages? I was told simply to stop the auto payment that was set up with the bank.  Am I at risk for anything at this point?

Was this an early termination, or was your car traded in?

It will matter in the event that you owe money.
