  • Hi, I'm currently planning on leasing a Mazda CX-5 Sport in Southern California and wanted to know if this quote is a good deal. I was told that the drive-off is $1377.98 which includes 1st month, tax, acquisition fee, and registration. Monthly being $234 which includes tax as well as two months of old lease payment.

I would appreciate a check on this deal, currently in 85044, ARIZONA.

2018 CX5 Grand Touring with Premium Package & Roof Rails
    MSRP - $32,285
    NET CAP - $30,355.18 (After $80 lease cash & $750 loyalty)
    Base Payment + tax (7.8%) - $358.17
    MF - 0.00001
    Residual - 57%
    Residual Amount - 18402.45

    Drive off fees: $1940.99
    Breakdown is:
    Document Prep Fee - $499
    License/Title - $538.82
    Acquisition - $595
    1st month payment - $358.17

How does that sound? This is actually the best out of all 3 dealers I've asked. The $499 doc fee is pretty standard on all dealers across Phoenix area, wish it was less though. Are there any customer incentives they haven't mentioned?

    Thank you.

I'm within $1 of that quote. If you can stomach a higher payment, I'd suggest you roll the doc and acquisition fees into the NET CAP, as well. Less money out of pocket, and no risk of losing the money if the car is stolen or totaled.

Thank you Michaell. I appreciate your reply :) Do you think it would unreasonable to ask for another $1000 of the net cap? Although I feel like the dealer would say no already since Edmunds puts TMV at around $30,800 for the my area.

    $830 of incentives + $500 dealer fee.

I'd certainly ask for a bigger discount than $2000.

    Hi There.

Can I please get MF/RV and incentives/lease cash for Touring/FWD for 36/12 in Houston, TX (Harris County) How does "lease cash" work in the calculation?

Hello Michaell I was able to get more information for the lease.
    Mazda CX-5 Sport Silver. (FWD)
They list the MSRP as $25,145.
Rebate: $2,320 (which I'm assuming is all kinds of rebates I may not qualify but I can't really get to what each rebate may be)
    Dealer discount + Rebate: $4,516.20
    Vehicle Price (Net): $20,628.80
It is for a 36 month lease 10k miles per year.
Down:$1000 (I asked if that is including all other fees and they told me that is all I pay)
Monthly payment: $195 (before taxes and applicable fees)
    Purchase Option: $14,129.75

I'm currently leasing a Ford Fusion with two months left of $241. I told the dealer about it and see if they can roll that into my current lease. Would prefer the cost upfront rather than on monthly cause I would effectively be paying tax twice.

Is this enough information to know if this deal is good or something seem off. I don't know what the MF would be for this lease. Help in this would be greatly appreciated cause I'm either going to get into this lease this month or just wait it out until February. Thanks again.

I get $189/mo, plus tax, with those prices.
Your quote looks to be in the ballpark.

Ask the dealer for a specific breakdown of the $1000 - in CA, you should only pay the first payment and the DMV fees (about 1.1% of MSRP) up front, and add all the other fees to the lease payment. Figure less than $500, out the door.

So here is the breakdown. What I noticed is the base monthly payment is not what they said but this is how they decided to break it down for me.

    Market Value $25,145.00
    Discount Savings -$1,295.00
    Vehicle Selling Price $23,850
    Doc Fee $80
    License $337
    Tire/Battery/VTR Fee $8.75
    Acquisition Fee $595
Tax on Collected Items $237.08 (How they got this calculation I'm still stumped
    Total Cap $25,107.83
    Estimated Trade Payoff $485
(This is the two months of Ford Fusion Payment. However, I have to consider that that the disposition fee was most likely not paid for)
    Down/Cash Cap Reduction $739.10
    Rebate $2320
(Which is $1460 lease cash, $360 customer incentive, $500 from somewhere that I may or may not qualify)
    Net Cap $22,533.73

    Base payment $242.13
    [($22,533.73 - 13829.75 = 8703.98 / 36 = $241.78) + ($22,533.73+13829.75 = $36363.48 * 0.00001 = $0.36) = $242.14]
    Monthly Tax $18.77
    36 Month Payment $260.90

    Down/Cap Red $739.10
    1st Payment $260.90
    Sign off $1000

    Rate .00001
    Miles 10,000
    Initial Miles
    Residual 55%
    Residual Amount $13829.75

Since Residual is set by the lender and so is the MSRP my best chance is to fight the Vehicle Selling Price. I should also remove the two lease payments from the calculation and pay it off myself cause I have to also take into consideration the disposition fee (unless I can get that waived when bringing in the vehicle). How else should I restructure this payment to get a lower monthly payment without increasing my down payment so high.

I'm within a couple of pennies of that quote.

Yes, the best place to reduce the payment is to negotiate a lower selling price.

If the dealer is taking your car in trade, you may not have to worry about the disposition fee.

Yes, the incentive comes from Mazda.

No qualifications, other than signing the lease.

    Hello Everyone,

I am looking to buy a 2018 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring.

This is my first time buying. I mostly lease my vehicles.

I am wondering if there are any incentives, rebates, etc. for this suv at the moment?

I checked one out at the dealer and the sticker was ~35k.

What should I look out for when buying vs leasing? I am guessing prices will be higher?

I am looking to finance for 4 years with the best available interest rate ( I should qualify).

Note: I do have about 13k to put down from a totaled vehicle.

What kind of monthly payments should I expect? What is everyone else paying? Hoping to bring down the payment significantly with this amount down.

    Please help! Thanks!
