2018 Volkswagen GTI Lease Deals and Prices

Hi, I’m new to leasing and would really appreciate some advice on whether or not this is a good offer.  I asked a few times for a complete breakdown of fees from dealer but haven’t gotten it yet.    This is what they gave me: 

Location: San Francisco
2018 Golf Gti SE (Blue) with DSG automatic 
MSRP : $32,740
CAP Cost: $28,540.00 (this price already includes the destination charge and installed options)
Term: 10k / 36 months
Monthly payment : $343 ($289 before tax)
Down payment: $3500
Residual: $18,334.40 (56% of the MSRP of the car)

OR
$ 1,500 down, payment is $ 403.29 including tax.

$ 2,500 down, payment is $ 373,17 including tax.

I prefer the lower $343 payment with $3500 down but not sure if the above is a good deal or makes sense?

How about for the Autobahn? I get a $37,100 MSRP with $2,000 off. 36 mo./10k miles. Dealer's offering $489/mo. with $0 down and $3,500 in fees and taxes (they were $3,107 for the SE). Thanks again!

I get $476/mo. on that one.

The numbers are all the same. More money upfront is just pre-paying part of the lease. It isn't making it any cheaper.

But, there is no way that $289/mo. = $343/mo., after tax.
Your sales tax rate would have to be over 18%.

Ask for the adjusted CAP cost. It will be different, depending on how much is due at signing.

That admin fee is nuts.. Surprised that the state hasn't done something about it, considering the way they regulate the rest of the process in NY.

Anyway I can negotiate? I have tried to get the base money factor but they wont change that. Same for the discount.

MF is marked up - base rate is .00140

That is clawing back some of that $4K discount they are giving you.

I get $345/mo plus tax with your numbers; $321/mo plus tax with the base MF.

Tell them you want the base MF or you walk. If they refuse, follow through.

With that cap cost, I get $361/mo plus tax.

Gotta be a lot of tax to get to $450/mo from $361/mo

What state is this?

Something seems off - the only two variables in a lease are the MF and the cap cost.

I'd confirm both of those numbers before going forward.

I wouldn't start yet... wait until next month, and see what the numbers are.

Start with a target price, and calculate a payment, using the lease variables, and your local fees and taxes. Then, shop the car lots, and find what is available. No point in trying to make a deal on a theoretical vehicle.

Then, give the dealer your parameters (term and mileage), and ask them for quotes on a specific vehicle. Compare that to your target price, and find out where the dealer is coming up short.. then, go from there.

What is the MSRP?

The lease cash is a VW-to-dealer incentive.
Hopefully, you negotiate a low selling price to reflect the incentive.

I get $414/mo with that CAP cost. (pretty close)

Ask for an itemization of the $2700, to make sure you aren't paying for something you don't expect.

I know the program isn’t that great, but $400 something per month just seems like an awful lot to lease a $32K MSRP GTI.  You are almost better off financing it for 5 years and ditching it after 3.  You’ll have some equity to out towards your next car.

I was just trying to represent the difference in options by rolling in or paying them outright. I'm leaning towards paying them up front.

Don't negotiate payments; negotiate the selling price and make sure no junk fees are added into your deal. Then, the lease math will spit out your best payment.
