That doesn’t sound right. In states where the taxes are due up front, I would assume it would be on Sale Price - Residual Value, and not the full sale price. In states where taxes are paid monthly, like PA, we pay taxes based on the monthly payment. So if the monthly lease payment is 500 dollars, and the tax rate it 9%, the totally monthly payment would be $545/month. The leasing company manages the details. In a typical lease, that means we are paying taxes on the depreciation + financing cost (and anything else rolled into the deal). With Care by Volvo, we would be paying taxes on (depreciation + financing costs + insurance costs + maintenance costs... etc... everything included in the subscription). I glad personally glad we pay taxes monthly, even if we pay a bit more in the long run. Paying taxes up front seems like a big hit.

Several states - TX, VA, MD - tax the entire selling price, even for a lease. Makes leasing very expensive.

Two other states - GA and IL - recently changed their tax regulations to tax the sum of the payments instead of the entire selling price. This is the practice in states like NY, NJ, OH and MN. You can add the tax amount to the cap cost, but then you're paying interest on those taxes.

Most states tax the monthly payment as you go - PA and CO (where I live) are two examples.

Then there are the states without sales tax - OR and NH, I'm told.

I also agree that the Care by Volvo program is overpriced. I especially don't like that the taxed amount (which is 11% here in Philly), is for the entire monthly subscription amount | 700*0.11= 77/mo in taxes. Alternatively, if I lease, I would be paying taxes on about 520/mo + taxes. | 520*0.11~57/mo in taxes. Also, I wanted the lava orange carpets, which you cannot get under Care by Volvo. :p In the Philadelphia area, dealers seem to have enough demand that they are asking for MSRP. I was originally quoted 591/mo incl. taxes, tags & fees (36/12, zero down, 45935 sale price) but that was with the residuals and MF's from March. I don't sit down to sign the papers until next week (when the vehicle gets in), so I still have time to negotiate and ensure the deal is okay. Did either the MF or residuals change from last month? Given 0.00007 MF and 61% residual, I'm estimating the payment should be closer to 572-575/mo. including 11% taxes. Any thoughts?
I was looking into the subscription in Texas and the dealers dont want to answer anything abiut taxes. Ine told me I would have to pay tax in full msrp....how can that be?!
Texas taxes 100% of the selling price, even on a lease. Discourages leasing, in most cases, and I suspect it would also greatly increase the subscription amount.
Yes, around 120 bucks on the R design subscription. Crazy.

It is. I had a couple of leases when I was living in Ny a while back and they taxed the monthly payment. Would be better but all dealers here in the area dont even want to listen when I ask about the Subscription. Some dont even know.

So based on my tax talks with some of the dealers, one of them just offered me a lease price instead of answering anything on the Subscription.

I think theres still room to play in these numbers but here are the details:
    XC40 R design 36 month lease 15k miles

    MSRP = 45,835
    Selling Price = 45,835
    Goverment Fees = 195.25
    Proc/Doc fees = 150
    Acce = 375
    Capitalized Taxes = 2,888.13
    Acq Fee = 695
    Gross capitalized cost = 49,943.13

696 a month with first payment down
    652 a month with 2,500 down
    578 a month with 5,000 down

Personally, not a fan of giving much down (or anything) for a lease, but still think the numbers are high looking at other lease deals for this. Looking at the residual value at 59%, payment should be around 580 without anything down, unless they are marking up thr MF, but I'm not a big expert on this.

Let me know whoever has any thoughts in the offer.

    Thanks in advance!

    $641/mo. with those numbers.

Expecting a lease deal on a vehicle that they won't discount at all? A waste of your time.

Has RV or MF changed for April?
I think the idea of an all-inclusive subscription service is great, and I would like to see more automakers offer one, or at least offer insurance bundles and maintenance bundles. That said, the current Care by Volvo options aren't appealing to me for the following reasons:

    1) The Momentum in the subscription doesn't include all the options I want, and I much prefer the leather seats in the Momentum to the R-Design's leather/cloth combo.

    2) $600 + tax is too much per month/not competitive with separate maintenance and insurance. I think it might make sense if insurance is very expensive for you and you don't want to put any money down. My target monthly payment for a 10K/36 month lease is $350-$375 (after tax). I will have to put down $1500-$3000 depending on the sale price, but that's doable for me. The first three 10K maintenance intervals are included with this car, so there's effectively no maintenance cost during the lease. My girlfriend and I are on a two car insurance policy and we pay the full premium upfront instead of monthly. The XC40 with $1000 deductibles would cost us $398, or about $66 per month averaged out. Volvo leases include GAP insurance, so I save about $26 per term not buying that from my insurance company.

For me, Care by Volvo would cost at least $5000 more over a 3 year period. Granted I could swap out the car two times and drive more miles, but neither of those things are important to me.

Thanks for replying, why are you putting money down on a lease, the golden rule is ZERO down except for fee's. If you are doing it to keep your payments low then leasing an expensive car might not be for you. Keep the downpayment, and use that money to help pay for your payments but don't give it to Volvo.

I like this idea that Volvo has but I think the monthly is too high. Now if I was a 25 yr old then this might be a good way of getting a lower total price (which includes insurance.) But for a household that has more then 1 car, not a smart move, UNLESS Liberty Mutual has a way of giving you a discount if you change policy.
Is it even advisable to have 2 cars in the same household insured by two different carriers? It seems overly complicated in the case of an accident. Would both companies raise your insurance rates in that case?

Is Volvo Care unlimited mileage or is there a limit?

Haven't been able to get any dealer to give a discount off MSRP, guessing $500-$1000 is the very best one can expect?

One dealer gave me a $655 quote for 10k/36mo lease including taxes and feed.

The taxes in VA would account for $52/month but confused as to why it's still so much higher than your estimate, even with taxes factored in!

Dealer fees, acquisition fee, marked up money factor.. $95/mo isn't that hard to come up with, if they are trying to hit a home run.

Is it easy to get them to lower their money factor if they're marking it up? I'd probably fall into tier 2 credit (borderline 700 score, perfect payment history).

One dealer also gave me a money factor of .00132 for the R-Design!

Dealer fees, acquisition fee, marked up money factor.. $95/mo isn't that hard to come up with, if they are trying to hit a home run.

    Exactly my point

On a new model that they are asking MSRP?
    No, it won't be easy

Also just discovered the same Volvo dealer who "generously" offered me $500 off is also trying to double charge me destination. Now the jacked up money factor makes perfect sense.

Again, dealer is trying to hit a 'home run'.

A different dealer quoted me for a MF of .00097 for the R-Design.

Should I just take it or ask them to lower it?

    Ultimately, that's up to you.

Me, I'd push for the base MF.

Or find a different vehicle where the dealers are more accommodating.
