I don't understand why my math and the finance guy's math is so far off, since it's the same everywhere.
I'm trying to lease a 2019 BMW 440i Gran Coupe. 12k/36. The MSRP on the car is $59,745. I negotiated the cost down to $53,770. There is a $2,500 lease incentive and $2,500 loyalty credit. Putting $2,000 down (drive-offs), I'm getting $567/m with tax (Los Angeles 10%). Residual is 56% and MF is .00182.
They are telling me $699/month. We are so far off that this is crazy. They told me not to overthink it, that they would never try to take advantage of someone there in-person, who is going to lease their 7th BMW.
Am I doing this completely wrong? I've never been this far off.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you and the dealer are both using the .00182 MF, then the difference is in the CAP cost used for the payment calculation.

    What number are you using?
What number is the dealer using?

Figuring out the difference will give you your answer.

That's almost $4000, by the way.

    Your math is off..

If you are using $48770 as the adjusted CAP cost, then it's $575/mo.+tax = $632/mo.

You can't subtract your $2000 upfront from the CAP, if it's going to pay for upfront costs.

    $699 payment
    $925 acquisition fee
    $660 DMV
    $80 doc fee
$602 upfront tax on rebates/acquisition fee

$2966 in upfront charges.. Your $2000 leaves you $966 short.
Add that to the CAP, for an adjusted CAP of $49,736
    $604/mo+tax = $664/mo.

    $35/mo. apart.
Looks like a money factor markup to .00222 to me
But, just ask them for the adjusted CAP cost, and see how it compares to my calculation.

$2139 in accessories? I can see the $399 is for tint.
What is the other $1740 for?

None of that gets residualized. You pay for it 100%.
Adding accessories is where good lease deals go to die.

1740 is what is left on my lease, since my current bmw lease isn’t up until April. It’s suppose to be taken off. I told them I wouldn’t pay for the window tints as I didn’t ask for them. The car comes with the convince package, heads up display and a couple of other little add ons, none of which I asked for. Can I negotiate those prices off?

I don’t care if I get a new car now or in April, I just thought I would be able to get a better deal now. Should I wait until April? I’m already over my mileage but I know they’ll waive it if I roll into a new lease.

They definitely added most of that amount into the new lease.

If a car has factory options, then you are paying for them, no way around that.
If your lease isn't up, I would wait. But, I wouldn't count on them waiving mileage overages. Dealerships don't have that power.

Appreciate feedback. Checking out a CPO 2019 BMW 440i X Drive Coupe AWD 6 Cyl. It has 4,645 miles on it, but available under a lease program (guessing under 5k miles dealer can still lease?). Based on the Carfax everything is peachy, though a windshield was repaired (looks like per inspection report it is a window chip that was repaired); no actual owner. Possible loaner car? Warranty start date shows 1/1/19.

They are listing the lease available under the following terms:

    Location 60187

    MSRP: $60,855
    MVP Price: $49,487

    3 years/12K
    $576/month
Taxes, Fees, 1st payment due upfront

    Comes with:
    M Sport Package
    Sunroof
    Nav
    18" Alloy

Seems reasonable without knowing residual or MF. Just started looking and haven't reached out to the dealer for any additional details. Thanks.

    Hi All -

I'm looking to swap an expiring lease for a new lease at the BMW dealer this weekend and need help on THREE questions:

Question 1 on CAR I'M TURNING IN:

2016 BMW 328i xDrive Gran Turismo
    3 year / 30K lease
    9600 miles on car
Gross Cap Cost on Lease: 49,151.07
    Residual Value on Lease: 30,710.45

Given low mileage, how much positive equity I could roll into a new lease?

Question 2 on CAR I'M THINKING OF LEASING:

2019 BMW 430i xDrive Gran Coupe
    3 year / 30K lease
What is best money factor I could possibly get?
What residual should I factor into my lease calculation?

Question 3: Would I just be better off buying the 2016 328i outright given solid condition and low mileage? I could pay all cash if need be.

    THANK YOU!

.00182 MF and 56% residual (less $1161 residual reduction)
    $1500 lease credit.
What is the actual amount due at signing?
If I deduct the $1500 from that sale price, I'm within $9/mo. of your price, so that looks good.

It's a coupe, and not a Gran Coupe, right?

Well, devils in the details. Checked in with the dealership about this crazy deal. Car is a retired loaner. Chip in windshield repaired by filling, not replacing windshield.

The quote they sent over indicated this is a GC not a 2dr Coupe. I asked to confirm and they kept insisting it is a coupe. Everything in the listing via Cargurus and the actual dealer site says Coupe. I'm still suspect.

You are spot on with the MF at .00182. I think the residual they are using is 54% with a purchase option of 33042.55 on a MSRP of 60855.

The rub is for the $576/monthly is they pulled forward the taxes and basically said I needed to pay those up front. Amount due at signing is:

    1st month: 579.97
Fees & Insurance: 411.94 (what is insurance??)
    Upfront Taxes: 2122.83
Cap Reduction: 579 (basically more cash out of my pocket)
They were generous to give $1500 cap rebate
out of pocket to me: $3693.74

So, with cash up front my effective payment over 36 months is ~685.50 if math is correct. I'm not pursuing.

thanks for taking the time to respond.

Appreciate feedback. Checking out a CPO 2019 BMW 440i X Drive Coupe AWD 6 Cyl. It has 4,645 miles on it, but available under a lease program (guessing under 5k miles dealer can still lease?). Based on the Carfax everything is peachy, though a windshield was repaired (looks like per inspection report it is a window chip that was repaired); no actual owner. Possible loaner car? Warranty start date shows 1/1/19.

They are listing the lease available under the following terms:

    Location 60187

    MSRP: $60,855
    MVP Price: $49,487

    3 years/12K
    $576/month
Taxes, Fees, 1st payment due upfront

    Comes with:
    M Sport Package
    Sunroof
    Nav
    18" Alloy

Seems reasonable without knowing residual or MF. Just started looking and haven't reached out to the dealer for any additional details. Thanks.

    Warranty start 1/1/2018?

.00182 MF and 56% residual (less $1161 residual reduction)
    $1500 lease credit.
What is the actual amount due at signing?
If I deduct the $1500 from that sale price, I'm within $9/mo. of your price, so that looks good.

It's a coupe, and not a Gran Coupe, right?
    That's a nice big discount

The rebate is not "generous". It's required. If it's a Grand Coupe, the rebate is $2500.

Fees and Insurance is just a pre-printed line. It's all fees.

Total cost is closer to $667/mo. You have to pull the first payment out of the upfront money, before dividing it among the payments.

But, 54% residual is for 15K/yr
If you want 36/12, it should be 56%

    Options on car:

    Black sapphire metallic paint
    Convenience package

    Black license plate frame
    Wherl locks
    First aid kit

    Thank you!

    @arts2565
So, is your lease not up yet?
You have $1550 of negative equity, according to their figures.

The problem with that quote, is it's for a purchase. No mention of lease fees ($925 acquisition fee), and no way to know if the tax number is valid on lease either.

If you are only driving 3200 miles/year, it would be crazy to trade out of your lease early. This is a 2019 model, not a 2018 special that might be gone, once your lease is up.

The list of charges in the left hand column is for purchase (Purchase Option).
That's why the tax amount is different, in the partial lease disclosure numbers. All of the tax is being paid upfront. $2122 is the total amount of tax.

I can't get the numbers to match up, because the adjusted CAP cost isn't disclosed (no mention of the $925 acquisition fee), but the numbers are close.

I show a $2500 lease credit on this model, but perhaps it's lower for a service loaner?

There is nothing out of line with that quote.

Thanks for walking me through this. They insist this is a 2dr Coupe, which i think the $1500 lease credit applies.
This is all being done by email so I'll need to confirm by driving to the actual dealership that this is in fact a 2dr coupe and it all matches up. A VIN search says it is, but i'd have to see it in person.

Here is a previous quote i received from them that is more detailed, but based on 10K miles and not on what they listed on the Cargurus website in the description regarding a $579/mo lease with 12K. which is what they came back with and I posted previously

Does this seem like a reasonable cost on a retired loaner with under 5K miles?
