Total DMV charges in CA on a $40K MSRP vehicle are going to be about $440 total, not $101.
Also, you'll have upfront sales tax on the rebate. ($285).

Your calculation is correct, if the adjusted CAP cost is the sale price minus the rebate. But, $1300 isn't going to cover 1st payment ($432) + acq.fee ($650) + DMV ($440) + doc fee ($80) + tax on rebate ($285)

It's likely that the acquisition fee is rolled into the CAP cost. If so, that takes me up to $430/mo, so pretty close. I'll guess once you have the exact numbers, it will add up.

No info on Costco or Edison.
Don't know the amount of the CA rebate, but if it's $2500, that cuts your costs by $70/mo.

First, find out if they are using GM Financial as their bank. If they are, then tell them you won't negotiate further until you get the base MF (they know what that rate is).

Thank you, that’s good to know. I’ve read that when negotiating a lease, it’s good to find the dealer cost and use that as the rock bottom price to behind negotiating up from rather then negotiating down from the MSRP. What is the best way to find this number?

Also, I received two quotes from the same dealer. The second only lowered the selling price and increased the trade in value. However, it listed almost $1400 in capitalized taxes that was not on the first quote. Do you know what this is or if it’s negotiable?

Residuals can't be altered. If it's a GM Financial lease, then the number we gave is it.
Money factors can be marked up. We don't see that much with GM dealers, but if you see it, just tell them that's a deal breaker.

I get $370/mo plus tax if I subtract the cap reduction from the gross cap cost.

Looks to be in the ballpark.

However, I would not give $5K to start a lease - that money would be lost if the car were to be stolen or totaled.

And, it doesn't change the cost of the lease - that $5K works out to almost $140/mo

You are correct. In NY, the dealer applies the rebate at the time of lease inception. If you qualify, it is separate from the GM rebate.

I just got this quote on a Bolt. Does it seem like a good deal? The only off thing that happened is the sales manager had told me via email that he’d do $33,000 before rebates. But at the dealership they said the $2000 NY state rebate was included in the selling price.

Other questions to ask the dealer:
1) What is the Due at Signing amount for the "0 Cash Down" option? Is it $0? Or, do I still make the first payment and fees?
2) What is the adjusted CAP cost for that option?
3) What is the money factor?
