And now I finally understand all the numbers! (well, all but one). The Aftermarket number was where he chose to place the 5 payments I still owed on my previous lease ($301.49 per month). The $7,955.96 of rebates was $3,750 from GM, $2000 from NYSERDA, $1000 from lease loyalty program, and $1,205.96 from lease forgiveness for the last 4 months of my previous lease. So, I ended up paying one extra lease payment, but I'm guessing that next month the $3,750 rebate from GM will probably diminish significantly (it is exactly half of the $7,500 federal tax credit, and I'm guessing that is not a coincidence). The upfront fees were all legit - items that are listed individually on the lease agreement.

Thanks again for helping me understand everything. I finally figured that out the finance fee structure myself before reading your reply. It makes sense. I did the calculation of what the monthly interest charges would be if paying off an actual loan on the cap cost, with a lump sum payment of the residual after 3 years. The difference between that and just charging the same percentage every month on the average of the cap cost and residual, while not exactly the same, was negligible.

I still don't get where the "total cap reduction" number came from, but that's not really important. Cheers.

I did get end up leasing the car. In the end when I went back and did the actual lease paperwork, they ended up having to lower the selling price because the residual % had "changed" from 57% to 55% (you knew). So they lowered the selling price in order to match the monthly payment in the quote.

We really wanted to stay with an electric vehicle, and this one seemed the most suitable for now. The perfect EV may present itself in a few years :-) I strongly considered punting and buying a used vehicle instead and waiting until that EV came along that we could afford and would want to keep for 10 years. We used to have a Leaf, and I was amazed at how inexpensive the used Leafs were - but I wasn't willing to go back to that range anxiety (particularly in the winter in central NY). Obviously, we could have leased a less expensive trim model (or waited until this summer and went with a Leaf Plus, Kona or Niro EV which all also have >200 mile range), but I felt we were getting a reasonable value on this one and it had most of the things we wanted in a car.

It was actually the low price of the used Leafs that convinced me that a lease was a better less risky option than purchase for this particular vehicle at this time if we only intended to keep it for a few years. Maybe by then EV that we can afford and will want to keep for 10 years will exist :-)

I think you made a pretty good deal. Even better, considering they had to make up for $860 in lost residual amount.

Hello!  Can I get the MF/ Resdual for a Bolt LT 36/12 for 94563?

    offer is:
    MSRP: 38245
    7500 off; net price 30,745
    584.59 in “govt fees”
    80.00 document fee
    650.00 acquisition fee
    Gross cap cost: 34,895
    net cap cost: 31,395
    Residual: 21,799.65
    tax (up front) 313.25
    amount due @driveoff: 1371.25
    payment: 393.98

Dealer is saying 54% residual and .00180 MF...

    look right?
    decent deal?

You guys in Calif get all the good incentives.
So the dealer is knocking 7500 off the MSRP, where is the 7500 federal tax credit? I was under the impression if you lease a EV, the tax credit stay with the bank, and that money is used as a CAP reduction.... I could be wrong

The tax credit can show up multiple ways....

    1. Incentive or rebate from the bank
    2. Higher residual (which is what GM is doing - the residuals on the Leaf are in the high 30's)

Hi, could someone provide money factor and residual for both LT and Premier for 91007? 36 month lease, 10,000 a year. Assume excellent credit.

Also, does the Federal credit apply towards the incentive, or is it a separate cap deduction on a lease like all other EV leases?

As a lessee, you don't get the Federal tax credit.

Hello. It is that time again, coming off of a lease in the next few months. I am getting a head start on things, as there are so many good cars out there and trying to narrow the choices. So, could I please get the current MF, Residuals (12k & 15k), and Incentives for both a 2019 Chevy Bolt EV LT and Premier models, 36 month lease. Zip Code = 94025 (Northern California), although I sometimes source cars from Southern California if that makes a difference. (BTW, you will probably see me on a few other Brand/Model Forums for the other possible choices.) Thank you so much!

Hi, I am looking to lease 2019 Chevy Bolt Premier - 36 mos/30k miles. My local dealer (95054) quoted the following numbers -

    MSRP/Retail $43,510.00
    Dealer Discount + Rebate $13,250.00
    License/Registration Fee $709.82
    DocProcessing/EVR/Tire Fee $122.75
    Residual Value $21,320.00
    Mileage Plan: 10,000 Per Year

With a $3000 down payment, the monthly lease is $345.45. Based on the net capitalized cost ($27,260) and residual value, the MF is 0.00322, which is pretty absurd. I thought the residual and MF are fixed by the manufacturer.

Dealer is also offering an upfront one pay lease of $13499, which still works out to $0.45/mi. I am not interested in an upfront lease either. But trying to understand why their MF is so high? What is the current MF and residual for LT/DFC and Premier?

    Thanks.

    MSRP/Retail $43,510.00
    Dealer Discount + Rebate $13,250.00
    License/Registration Fee $709.82
    DocProcessing/EVR/Tire Fee $122.75
    Residual Value $21,320.00
    Mileage Plan: 10,000 Per Year

With a $3000 down payment, the monthly lease is $345.45. Based on the net capitalized cost ($27,260) and residual value, the MF is 0.00322, which is pretty absurd. I thought the residual and MF are fixed by the manufacturer.

Dealer is also offering an upfront one pay lease of $13499, which still works out to $0.45/mi. I am not interested in an upfront lease either. But trying to understand why their MF is so high? What is the current MF and residual for LT/DFC and Premier?

    Thanks.

    LT - .00195 and 51%
    Prem - .00154 and 49%
    $6750 incentives

Residual is set by GM; MF can be marked up by the dealer for extra profit.

In this case, there is an additional $6500 rebate beyond factory cash back. Should I negotiate a lower MF or just focus on the monthly lease price + down payment?

It's possible that the extra rebate is tied to using a different bank, or marking up the money factor.
I doubt you can separate the two, but you should find out where the rebate is coming from.

I would only want to pay first payment and DMV charges upfront. That will give you a true picture of your monthly cost.

Here is the quote I received -

With a $2K down payment, it's not clear how the cap cost is only $30,725. Total DMV charges (registration fees and VLF) are $503 based on net price of $37,630. Along with first month payment, total one time fees should only add up to ~$880. So, why isn't the rest applied as cap cost reduction?
    • What is the $989.54 sales tax charge?
    • Why is that included in lease calculation? Am i not paying a sales tax on monthly payments?

In CA, I'd guess the $989.54 is the total of the sales tax that is collected on the monthly payment. Just an informational line, not part of the CAP cost equation.

One amount that is missing is the upfront sales tax on the rebate.

    Out of your $2000:
    $377 first payment
$1153 fees (itemized in top document)
Upfront tax on the rebate ($725 if your sales tax rate is 10%)

Whatever that number is, the $2000 is not enough to cover it all, leaving a little bit to be added to the CAP.

I'm looking at the first column, with $2000 upfront.

What is the money factor and residual for a Chevy Bolt Premier in Utah (84098) for 36 or 39 months and 10K miles per year? One local dealer just quoted a payment of $715+tax for 39 months with $2500 down on a vehicle with a sales price of $36,311.00

That seems like a really bad quote. What is the MSRP?
