Hi I'm looking for some clarification on how fees play into the gross capitalized cost, adjusted capitalized cost, and the monthly payment. I am using the Edmunds calculator, but it isn't entirely clear.

lets say, for instance, I have a selling price of 30,000 with 1,500 in fees.

If I plan on paying those fees upfront, does that payment reduce the adjusted capitalized cost down by the 1,500? Or does it still factor into adjusted capitalized cost, and, in turn, the monthly payment?

Also, if they are saying they would roll the fees into the monthly payment, are those fees just tacked onto the depreciation amount, then divided by the number of months of the lease?

Sorry for all the questions, but it's not entirely clear in the site calculator.

Thanks in advance for anyone that can help me!

If you are paying fees upfront, just leave them out of the calculator.

If you roll fees in, they are added to the CAP cost, and increase depreciation (and, also subject to the finance charge portion of the lease payment)
So now I feel like I understand the calculations, but I'm curious..is the number that I get for monthly payments from the Edmunds calculator what I should be shooting for in terms of cost? Like say I run the numbers they gave me and I get $230/mo and they're quoting $320/mo, should I look elsewhere or just stay firm around the $230 and know that they will come down to me? Any strategic advice would be much appreciated.
Something seems wrong with your numbers if you're getting $230/mo for a Highlander.

Can you post a screen shot of the calculator?

The dealer is either incorrectly overstating the residual, or they're jacking up the residual price on purpose, but I'm not sure why.

That is the 24 month residual they are quoting, but obviously not the one they are using.

Yeah, makes sense. So what is my goal if I'm assuming the $305 is correct? Am I trying to get them under that? Or is that $305 number the lowest they would possibly go?

The payment is dependant on the selling price you negotiate; where did you get the $31,147 price in your calculations? Is that an offer from a dealer, or something you got off the web?

Right, but Toyota has pretty strict requirements about residency in order to get the regional MF.

Right, but Toyota has pretty strict requirements about residency in order to get the regional MF.
Can you please confirm the same for 89521 zip?
XLE AWD and SE FWD with 36mo/12k miles.

    .00085 MF and 62% residual
    Either trim

Thanks. Interesting that local area has good MF. I assume same $300 lease cash for both of them?

I may just need to push the MSRP discount to make a good deal out of it then. Thanks!

So there are no lease cash in 89521?

Also is the residual same across regions for Toyota?

Because a dealer in 89701 is saying 60% for the XLE AWD which I thought is 62% across CA/NV.

Are the residuals better for XLE/SE with 36 months for 15k? If yes, please share them.

TFS residuals are the same, regardless of region, though money factors can vary.
60% is the 36/15 residual for XLE AWD. The numbers we gave you are correct.

I understand we can't predict what can happen in coming months, but based on historical data and your experience, do you guys think the HL leases will get better and better towards upcoming months especially with 2020 already confirmed to be available in Dec-19?

I am getting quotes from various dealers with 11% discount off MSRP and 62% residual is good and the money factor is attractive in certain regions with MSDs put down. But really wonder if we wait for a month or few months, will it get better with more lease cash and better residual or should I push for little more discount and pull the trigger this month? I am ok to wait for few months if required but not sure if this is the right time or to wait. Any advise? TIA.
