try and get 'ol Tim going. he's one of a handful
that does'nt get mad and take things so
seriously. you gotta admit though that this topic
has gotten a little boring. same subjects seem to
be coming up over and over and over. heck, some
people don't even pay attention to what others
are talking about. just look at what CRYIN' RYAN
is complaining about. seems like that complaint
has come up quite a few times even when he was
online. maybe these trucks are too complicated
for some to understand. like i said before, they
are machines and are going to make noises.

When I got back, Christine told me she saw a small black bear down in the gulch while riding on her ATV. Max and I went looking, did not find it.
Later, after some fence building, I had some spare time. So I went to change a noisy idler pulley on my '89 Ford motorhome. The inside of the engine compartment was full of hair...rabbit or porcupine, I thought rabbit, someone else said rabbits don't climb on top of engines. Whatever it was chewed through 4 spark plug wires, various other wires including the radio coax, distributor primary, 2 vacuum hoses. Grrrrrrr! Oh well, guess I shouldn't have expected any less...ford after all. We all know what Ford stands for....Found On Ranch Dead.
As evening approached, I see a bunny come out of hiding. I grabbed my new Savage 24F, over 'n under combo gun, 12 ga/223 Rem, and followed him into some bushes. Waited, saw movement....boom...dropped in his tracks with 12 ga #8 field load. About 10 lb cotton tail.
On Sunday, I headed down into the gulch again to check on the bear. No bear, but I see a picket pin (small chipmunk like rodent) on a rock. I put the barrel selector on 12ga, blast him. Then another on a rock. Boom! Knocked off his feet like he was hit with compressed air. Dead. Then a third, popping his head out of a hole. Boom! Flipped him. Crossed the creek and heard movement in the bushes. Stopped, saw another rabbit. Problem was, I was out of #8 field load. Didn't want to waste a 00 buck shot 3 inch magnum defense round I carried for the bear. Clicked the selector to the upper barrel, 223 remington. From 12 feet away, I fired a head shot at a motionless bunny.....Missed! Bunny hops away, lives to see the another day. Later, I test fired the 223 on the range at 120 yards. Wasn't even on the paper until I adjusted the windage and elevation.
Back at the camp, my neighbor comes up and says he's got a bear up in a tree, by his trailer. I grab the firearm, and we ride our dirt bikes over. Sure enough, a mature male cub, up in a tree, mad as hell, no fear of human. He's snorting, chortling, hissing, growling, generally very upset. My neighbor locked his dog in the trailer while this was going on. Dog was barking like mad. We stood there for five or ten minutes, 20 feet away. He was so cute, you wanted to throw your arms around his neck and hug him, but when it looked like he might come down, I told David we needed to give him some room. It wouldn't be fair if we provoked him into an attack, and had to kill him. So we backed off to about 100 yards, and watched him for 1/2 hour. He finally climbed down, went behind the trailer. We followed from a distance, and then next saw him going up the hill on the other side of the canyon. He was so far away, I wondered if this was a second bear, but if not, the speed with which he scooted was a reminder...you can't outrun one.
Sally - what part of the US you live? Alot of snow? If you get alot of snow (blizzards) might want to get it but if its just flurries just make sure you get the locking rear differential thats all you should need.
Ryan
Elmer Fudd.
Sally, git a 2wd with a locking diff. Saves money and gas.
rwagoner, Lexus update: Perfect as expected!!
Ryan

PS.DRIVIN SKILL AINT GOT NUTHIN TO DO WITH IT
PPS. sorry for the caps lock.lol
According to Tim i wouldnt get stuck because i have the Sticker (Z71) that has magical powers.
Driving skill does play a part when driving anywhere in anything. Experience plays a part too.

by the way, 8 of the top ten record whitetails have been shot in TEXAS! and we dont hunt armadillos........we race 'em!!
Yep your right you need the right equipment for the job. At first when you were talking about the tires i thought u were just getting some "sport" tires not ones for a particular use.
Ryan
At the very least it will give you some reference.
looked under truck till today when mail blew
right to the middle. Was surprised to see such
huge muffler, has anyone read why such a large
system is used on such a small chassis (4.8).
On model have noticed two dual cats
feeding into a single pipe. Seems GM could
offer a good dual system and cash in on all the after markets being substituted. Any tech people
on board know why no duals offered by factory.
On older trucks there was usually an option.
will fit?
(BFG Radial Mud Terrain)
Locking differential on 2WD will lock 2 rear wheels together if one starts to slip. For the money it's a good investment and should keep you from getting stuck if you drive in an appropriate manner. I'd also throw a little extra weight in the bed for winter. A couple of buckets of sand works great. It provides weight and you can toss some under the tires if you ever do get stuck.
duman - 15" tire will not be optimal on a 16" factory wheel.
Some 2001 2WD trucks will be avail with traction control.

gnipper,
I have the same set up as you except the 3.73 rear end. Haven't reprogrammed the tranny yet, but would think this would help.
BTW, ordered a thermo from truckperformance.com and they screwed it up. Would not recommend them to anybody as now I'm getting the run around. Anybody know if there is a electric fan available for the new style Silverado's - can't find one...
posted about? how about 2001 models, anything new
besides possible handles that i'm so full of?

Odenmeyer: I still have the stock system, so you must have me confused with someone else. That "droning" or cab resonance is a real concern however.
Sally: If you are undecided between 2WD or 4WD definatley go with the 4WD. It will cost you a little more up front and your mileage will suffer marginally, but unless you live in Florida or Hawaii, you will have no worries in the winter or, just trying to drive out of those awkward places we all find ourselves in ocassionally. Actually, I wouldn't buy anything but 4WD even if I lived in Florida! My $.02
Extended Warranty: I tend to agree that it is not a good deal at the price most of these dealersd want for it. But two years ago I had a Chrysler Town and Country that the dealer wanted $1800.00 for a 7/70 plan. I declined and went on line to shop around and through a link posted on "dejanews" I found a Chrysler dealer in Oklahoma that sold me the EXACT same plan for $575.00!!!
I'm not kidding. You can see the mark-up involved here. Too damn bad I ended up selling that van to buy this Silverado. I added it on the price I wanted and did end up getting my money back.
