Sorry for my (noob) questions, I am a first time lessee. I am looking to lease a 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback LX or Sport CVT.

I see that they have the $199 mon with $2799 down at signing offer running for the LX. Is that any good, or should I get the manager and the finance guy at the table and say I need a better deal than this. I dont feel comfortable to sit with them over every lease number, but I have an app for these numbers

It's best to lay out your whole deal. If you have to trade your car in, then tell them that. No point in getting a killer deal on the lease, then introducing your trade, and having them give you a low-ball offer. Make sure you are okay with the trade-in allowance, before negotiating on the lease.

I tried 3 local dealers and haven't had any luck getting even a 22,135 price. Originally, I thought I'd be able to beat that price. Sales are reluctant to negotiate msrp, they say things like it's different because I'm not buying, it's different it's a lease program and revert back to negotiation of payment numbers. I got an offer of 1,834 down (includes 1st month, acquisition and fees) and 231 monthly. Salesman quoted a payment I think it was $259 so I asked what's the price of car at that payment, he said 22,2xx ( I don't remember exactly). So I did the edmunds formula ( https://www.edmunds.com/car-leasing/calculate-your-own-lease-payment.html ) with that price and got 213 before tax, 231 after tax. I did not add the tax into the fees in step 2 of the formula, because I thought the taxes are calculated last and should not be included in the fees, is that correct? The sales guy said I was wrong, but I doubt the 22,2xx price was given to me?

I see some of you getting better deals, I'm not looking for the best deal here but I want the best deal available to me which is not the above, I'm ready to start calling out of state and upstate dealers, Long Island has a lot of slime, the salesman said people pay 3x's my payment... any advice is appreciated, happy holidays!

NY taxes the sum of the payments, and collects that amount up front. You can choose to add the tax amount to the selling price to make it part of the monthly payment, so in that respect the dealer is correct.

And, any price you find on-line may not be valid for a lease, as there are different incentives for lease vs. purchase.

Ask any dealer you work with to provide a copy of the lease worksheet.

It is a factory to dealer incentive, which is why its not disclosed.
