I made an appointment for a 6-month service on the Caddy the other day. Business must be good as the dealer is booking about a month out. Oil/filter change is $109 in worthless Canadian dollars which seems fair. I wanted them to do the annual once-over of a bunch of things which is another $100. The lady booking me in tried upselling me on lots of other things like sludge removal treatment, decarbonizing the valves, and brake caliper lube which I declined. I did go for a brake fluid change which had never been done.
My MB dealer has never tried to sell me extras....in fact they told me I have at least another year before brakes or tires need to be considered.
@tjc78 Really sorry to hear about your eye problem. That is a tough one. I hope they can find a solution. Some people bought eye drops through Amazon, they weren't the brands we know...and they caused serious eye problems, they were contaminated. Just putting it out there to be careful when buying health products, especially when it comes to eyes.

I first started noticing how pricy oil changes had become when I got a $75 bill for 9 quarts on the Mustang (full synthetic). Now it’s almost up to that for the 4.25 quarts Kia. I stopped changing my own oil when it became necessary to remove a hundred bolts to get the skid plate off.
I guess we’re never going back to the days of 50 cent a quart oil at the precursor to Sam’s club.
BTW, someone mentioned that Sam’s club was doing away with accepting cash so I asked a few employees about that. The best answer I could get was that the new CEO wanted to do that sometime between 1 and eight years.
I can’t wait for the new Costco.

Thanks Driver. I just had the non medicated stuff delivered from the local Walmart store. Bought only name brands. Not messing around.
Was coming home from Dayton yesterday after looking at a pair of used Magnepan LRS+ speakers for sale (a story in an of itself if any of the audio people here are interested).
Was following a a Maserati Ghilbi on I75S when a torrential downpour starts. Traffic slows way down, as it should, because visibility was dismal, at best. But, not for the Mazzy. He needed to weave in and out, using the shoulder, to get around slowed traffic. He passed me on the right dangerously close to my passenger door.
Didn't see what happened, but no more than 300 yards later, I see him on the right, off the road...not even on the berm, but in the grass, dug in the mud, facing the opposite direction. He was standing, in the downpour, looking at the damage. I assume it was substantial as the undercarriage was full of grass and mud.
Since I was already in the right lane, going about 10 MPH, I pulled over and asked if he needed help. He said he called his wife to come get him. I offered to wait with him and let sit in my car in the dry until help came. He said he'd "sit in his own damn car".
Awwwrighty. Clearly he was upset. I just drove away.

Once on a 6 lane highway, 3 going West and I was in the left lane and couldn't go any faster as there were a string of cars in front of me. I did leave a few car lengths between me and the car in front. The guy behind me saw an opportunity, he jumped into the middle lane, got slightly ahead of me, cut into my lane in front of me, the traffic ahead of him stopped suddenly, he plowed into the car in front of him. Sorry buddy Hated to see that happen

Back in 2006 my wife and I were taking the Club Sport on an overnight trip. A Jaguar XJS convertible cut in front of me as I was taking an entrance ramp on to I-64. The driver was a textbook example of Mid-Life Crisis Man: comb-over hair, gold chains, and wrap-around sun glasses. His companion was a flashy blonde trophy wife/girlfriend/bimbo/escort. The guy simply could not stand for me to pass him, so the faster I went, the faster he went. I settled in to a cruising speed of 85, trusting in my V1 and the fact that the XJS was serving as a "rabbit" in front of me.
After several miles I noticed the Jag was starting to smoke a bit. I decided to speed up just to see what would happen, and -of course- so did the XJS. More smoke. Then I caught a whiff of antifreeze. That was just too good, so I turned up the wick a bit more; I couldn't believe that comb-over hadn't noticed any problem. I ended up pushing him up to about 95 and at that point, the poor XJS had had enough; clouds of steam suddenly billowed out from under the car and from around the hood. The last I saw of him he had pulled over to the emergency strip. My Club Sport now had a film of coolant covering the windshield, but it was worth it.
And no, I didn't stop.

There's not many places you can demo those Magnepans. These are from a dealer. They are their "demos". I think I have the "juice" to run them with my amp, because it takes a lot of juice to get sound out of ribbon speakers.
$750 cash and carry, which for this level of performance is a bargain.
Still on the fence because I have a very nice pair of Klipsch Heritage Fortes, now. Different sound, though.
The Magnepan's (made in MN) have the ability to hear even the breaths of the singers, finger plucks on strings, wide sound stage. The sonic image doesn't come from any one place like a box. My Klipsch (made in AR) have more bottom end and more dynamics. The speakers are the tall ones. The electronics are some "high zoot" McIntosh integrated amp is hand made in NY (who was just bought by Bose) and a high end streamer.

Do you plan to trade or sell the Veracruz?
My wife wants to sell, which would be private party. I'd prefer to keep it just in case my son's Mercury Milan blows up with 207,000 miles. So not sure. The Veracruz has 214,000 miles, but a 1 owner with excellent service records. Good condition. Fairly new tires New front brakes. Mrs. Jip thinks about a selling price of $3,000. I'm thinking around $4,500-$5,500.

got ambitious today (paying the price now!) and did a full detail on the Acura. Had it out earlier in the rain and it got filthy so I kept it out to wash. Decided it was getting a little rough so did a clay job (love the mitt to replace the actual clay) and a wax. was due for its post-winter refresh. Pulled out the shop vac and cleaned up the carpets and storage bins too. So should be good for another year now! It does not get used enough (and no longer makes a trip to the beach) plus lives in the garage so one wax just annually should be enough.
Next week I need to do the truck. I don't think I did that since late last year either.

The AEV/Bilstein steering stabilizer (more properly called a damper) arrived early this afternoon so I decided to go ahead and install it.
Being old and stubborn I performed the install with the jeep on the ground. With a regular damper that wouldn't be as issue, but the AEV/Bilstein piece uses a monotube high gas pressure design- which means that it's very hard to compress it enough so that it will fit into the Jeep's mounting brackets. Because of the reduced clearance and lack of leverage it took me several tries -I thought I was going to pop a blood vessel towards the end- but I finally had it installed with the two mounting bolts torqued to the correct values.
I took it on a test drive and I really like it. It firms up the steering a bit and eliminated any hint of shimmy. So that's Jeep modification number 1 for 2025.

All it needed was a throttle body. Engine has been fine since that diagnosis....100,000 miles ago.

Death Wobble is caused by worn or loose steering components, but a good damper can mask it. I was experiencing a very slight shimmy that occurred on rough pavement at speeds over 50 mph. And I don’t believe that any steering components are worn- it’s just the nature of the beast.

$109 (CDN) oil change is a bargain.
I wonder if it was synthetic? Just taken from Google AI, A full synthetic oil change in Canada typically costs between $80 and $120, with a wider range of $66 to $137. Conventional oil changes average around $60, with a range of $42 to $73. Local factors, like the specific oil brand used and the service location.
So @ab348 paid a little bit on the higher side, but it is a Cadillac.
This would really disappoint me if I bought a MB for their reputation of quality and have the upholstery split at the seam. I've seen this on multiple late model C sedans with less than 70k.

Some people bought eye drops through Amazon, they weren't the brands we know...and they caused serious eye problems, they were contaminated. Just putting it out there to be careful when buying health products, especially when it comes to eyes.

Very magnanimous of you g.g. When my son's car was rear ended, and totaled, on the interstate, 2 or 3 people drove by and jeered. :-(
Dealership now says the Passport won't be ready till Monday or Tuesday...which probably means Wednesday.

Tough call whether or not to buy those. You may need a subwoofer to be fully happy considering what you are running now.

Yeah....I really don't have the room for the Maggies. But dang, they sound good. Subwoofer is definitely needed, though. That really doubles the cash outlay for those. Plus, I keep telling myself I really like what I already have.
Like cars, the next new thing may be better. So, I keep looking. LOL!
Yes. The 2010 Mercury Milan was that car. They said it had major timing issues.

How do you misdiagnose a throttle body with timing chains? I hope you took that shop off your list.🥲
2019 Kia Soul+, 2015 Mustang GT, 2013 Ford F-150, 2000 Chrysler Sebring convertible
Death Wobble is caused by worn or loose steering components, but a good damper can mask it. I was experiencing a very slight shimmy that occurred on rough pavement at speeds over 50 mph. And I don’t believe that any steering components are worn- it’s just the nature of the beast.

I’m guessing you mean a “throttle body SENSOR”, not the entire throttle body. There is a huge price difference between the two.
Just curious but who did the correct diagnosis?
