So, four total doors? I've seen those, but not one that was staggered like you describe.

Have a counter-depth Frigidaire side by side. Repaired the ice chute (broken spring) and display (burnt out LEDs) out of warranty. The ice chute is fine other than getting ice stuck in it every once in a while. The LEDs are burning out again, but I'm just turning them off and ignoring the problem. If it's still just me in the house, may just buy a couple of dorm room fridges when the mechanicals finally go out, and put a small countertop above them.

If you really like the car you could say you will buy it if he pays to have it repainted...professionally.
I see Mazda's that are similar for a bit less, but you can buy a 2 year newer one with fewer miles for slightly more. $2000 more but getting a newer car with a lot more miles left in it.
I like that Mazda red. This group has a boring gray one but it has a lot less miles for a few $1000 more..

We had a good guy at BMW who touched up paint for us on trades; any metallic paint is difficult to match and Soul Red is exponentially worse.

    Re: a fridge....

Bought one a few years ago. KitchenAid....bottom freezer, fridge top. Nothing fancy...ice maker in the freezer with a bin. No filtered water dispenser... although I do think it has a filter which chimes when it needs replacing for "pure ice". Arm and Hammer box for air filtration that works just fine and is cheap.

Was tempted by a fancy-shmantzy one with all sorts of doors. But, that lay out would have probably been lost on me.

No issues, so far. It replaced another KitchenAid which was best described as a huge hunk of steel....side-by-side. Gave it to my son, and it's still going strong...probably 20 years old now.

Speaking of appliances, it seems one of the burners on my GE electric glass top stove has stopped working. Is this something that is serviceable or should I start looking into new ones?

If this was CCBA, I think you’d know our answer to that question.

There has been some preliminary talk about replacing our stove, as well. GE gas model currently. They want to get something that has two ovens.

You can buy a replacement part and do it yourself. We had the same thing happen and I was able to replace the burner myself. Our stove was also a GE. Was kind of a pain but doable.
Here's a video (with a bunch of commercials, at least for me) on how to replace the burner.

Anyone extremely near sighted here? I’ve been wearing glasses since kindergarten and am very near sighted. Prescription is -11.75.

I just can’t get correction right with glasses. The glare is terrible and everything seems washed out. I buy the best lenses you can buy with all the anti glare etc.

I have a call into the doctor to see what’s going on. They swear my eyes are healthy, but I must reduce my contact wear (hence the need for good glasses)

Figured I’d check with this group to see if anyone had a similar situation and how it was resolved.

Have you considered lasix? Some family had it done and loved it. As long as it’s straight nearsighted and not funky astigmatism like I have! I have to wear glasses. Tried contacts a few times and just couldn’t make them work.

More than likely the burner is bad but before I’d buy a replacement burner, I’d check for voltage (220 volts) at the burner connector to make sure the switch is good.

FWIW that video was not very good so I’d search for one that shows how to check for voltage AND how to replace the burner itself.

I’m not a LASIK candidate unfortunately. Severe nearsightedness and astigmatism.

I just had the glasses checked and my face remeasured and it all checked out. Trying to get a follow up appointment to see what I can do.

With some reading it sounds like I may need to work with a different optician (like not chain store) and try different frame/lens combinations. Looks like I just threw $400 away on the pair I bought

I may also try a second opinion as well.

    Thanks all.

I have never heard of Lasix doing anything for cataracts. I had one done last fall and it is a high-tech painless surgical procedure where the lens inside your eye is replaced.

My decidedly non-expert opinion is that with refrigerators, the simpler, the better. No icemaker, no chilled water in the door, etc. Side by sides are good for maintaining aisle space but make accessing stuff a bit more challenging. Freezer on the bottom is popular up here but I guess I'm old-school and like it on the top. Frigidaire makes a good top-freezer fridge.

I am the opposite. I want something that has the features I want. I am not giving up my ice maker in the door, even if it means I have to replace the fridge more often. That would be like giving up power windows and seats in my cars.

I am with you on the ice and water. We use our water dispenser all the time. Our ice maker is broken because Samsung so we have a counter top ice maker at home. At the shore the ice maker works thankfully.

I’ve had the Samsung ice maker fixed twice now and I can make it work but it freezes all up a week later and it was better for my sanity to just have a counter top unit.

Currently looking at a 2021 Honda Passport EX-L at the dealership. Miles a bit high at 78k. Good maintenance records. Local 1 owner. Dealership is asking $24,600, which included $1,000 off for financing. I offered $23,240. Salesman says they paid $22,000 for it. The car hasn't been inspected yet. We're putting $500 to hold. Wait for inspection. Car is in great conditions. Good tires. Only 5 small rock chips. Thoughts?

Forgot to pack a lunch, weren't really looking to buy today. But, I was starving, the dealership had the upper hand, so we left a refundable deposit.

The car had been traded in today. Has not been inspected or serviced. The salesman was wanting to finalize the deal. We said we'd wait for the inspection...and I really hadn't researched much. He pouted a bit, but was o.k. with reassurance.

We test drove several Honda CR-V's. But, I and Mrs. Jip liked the bigger Passport. Didn't really care to spend $45k to buy new. The salesman is suppose to call in 3-4 days when the car is ready.

The miles were a bit concerning, but has had timely oil changes and has the big V6 engine which is rated well.

Wait, an old hand like you is willing to trust a dealer’s inspection? If the inspection discovers that the engine burns the oil or that the transmission skips like a kid on the way to school, will the price be the same? Will they even tell you?

I thought about that. lol. I checked it out as best I could. Oil good. No leaks. Climbed under the undercarriage. Clean. No rust. No damage. Took it for a long test drive on side streets and expressway. Strong acceleration. Smooth shifts.

But, I'm expecting they may try to raise the price for any maintenance performed. If anything semi-serious is wrong we'll pass.
I've had my Accord serviced at this dealership (Honda World) for 5 years. Don't seem as sleasy as some others.

The financing guy did come over. Thought we were buying today. Said he could get us a 5 year/50k mile extended warranty. Said he'd work with us on price. Mrs. Jip asked how much. Guy said he could get it down from $4k to $3k...maybe $2.8k.

5 year warranty for $2800 sounds great - but is it a HONDA extended warranty or a third party warranty? What’s covered and what’s not covered? Any deductibles and if so what are the deductibles? Is a car rental included if the vehicle is going to be in service for more than a day or two?

Remember, I was in the car business and am always a kind of “detail” person when it comes to extended warranties.

    @jipster,
Did some searching to find Honda Care(Manufacturer) warranties.
Found this but only available for 2022 and up. Umm, ok.

You have no way of substantiating what the dealer paid nor should you care. It’s what you’re paying that counts. Pack a lunch and continue negotiating.

Mrs. Jip really wants that car. I'm afraid the old, "Jipst Method of Used Car Buying", will have to take a backseat. :-(

when I do have my wife involved (meaning it is for her car) she will go to look and test drive to decide if she wants it. But once that decision is made, and a color picked out, she wants nothing to do the sausage making process. Just tell her when we have to go sign papers and pick it up.

At this point, she would never agree to a used car though, so it makes the process a lot easier not having to deal with all the used car drama. Just costs more! Though quite likely whenever she does get a new car, it will be the last one since by the time it would need replacement many years down the road we would not still be having 2.
