I purchased the "inflated" warranty at Fred Haas Toyota World north of Houston, TX. I'm going to repurchase the same warranty at a much lower price from Toyota of Greenfield in Greenfield, MA.
  • hansiennahansienna Member Posts: 2,312
I looked at the Toyota Platinum Warranty Zero Deductible on everything except wear items like windshield wiper blades, tires, etc. my friend received in the mail from Toyota and it includes the price paid on the warranty. The paperwork signed when he purchased it states that the entire purchase price will be refunded at the end of 7 years or 75,000 miles IF the extended warranty was never used.
IF the 2 warranties provide exactly the same coverage, my friend will lose the interest on the additional cost he paid.
THANKS for your information. IF I get a new Sienna, this information will be a valuable bargaining tool. ;)

I just came back from the dealership. I am a first time car buyer so I am new to all this. I am getting the 06 sienna 8 pass le.I was talked into adding the platinum extended warranty. He quoted me 2200 for that and the alarm system. I really don't know why I agreed to it and have to go and tell him to take it off. I pick up the car next week. Please give me solid reasons I should tell him why I don't want the warranty. Isn't that way overpriced? Thanks for your help.
  • joselito8780joselito8780 Member Posts: 4
Hello...me again. Since I will still need the alarm, what's a fair price for them to give me? I just don't want to be taken advantage of..again. TY!
  • abinabin Member Posts: 18
I told the financial guy that, I may drive this vehicle for up to three years and will come back for another new vehicle. In case I decide to keep the car longer, I can always come back to purchase such a plan before the standard waranty expires. You then have three years to shop around for best price.

I deleted # 6055 because I had misread # 6054 (mistakenly thought invoice was MSRP).
I think you should use Edmund's TMV to price the exact same vehicle in your zip code. My friend got his 2006 Sienna LE with pkg # 2 for slightly less than Edmund's TMV.

Can you tell me how much he was able to get the 2006 LE with option #2 for please? Also what state did your friend purchase the Sienna? Were trying to purchase the same but the closet we have been quoted so for is $500 over the TMV price.

    Thanks
  • hansiennahansienna Member Posts: 2,312
Also included the $ 214 optional carpeted floor mats listed on the window sticker. MSRP $ 25,130 + LE Pkg # 2 $1,040 and CF Carpeted Floor Mats $ 214 and $ 565 Delivery for bottom line $ 26,949.
Edmund's does NOT include the factory $214 Carpeted Floor Mats option but gives TMV for the LE 7 w/pkg # 2 as $ 25,591. My friend paid $ 25,698 + Doc Fee, Utah Tire Recycle Tax $ 5, License and Registration Fee of $ 39, and Utah $ 150 Fee in lieu of property tax + Utah 6.6 % Sales tax. (He paid $ 107 for the $ 214 factory option and got the rest for TMV).
Based on my understanding, non-residents of Utah do NOT have to pay Utah Sales Tax if not used or licensed in Utah. I do not know about the $ 150 fee, etc.

He got it at Mark Miller Toyota Salt Lake City, UT 84101 from a regular salesman with NO haggling. He simply asked the salesman for their best price. Mark Miller additional Doc Fee of $ 239 is one of the lowest in the Salt Lake City area...altho higher than many parts of the USA.

You may be able to get a better price closer to your home....but knowing names and addresses can help you negotiate with your dealer.

If you want the salesman's name, write me at my address in Edmund's profile.

Just clicked the deal for 2006 LE with package #4 (BZ) slate metallic for 26.1k less $500 rebate making it $25.6k. It came with few added option (Floor Carpet, Door Sill Protector, Decor Package (God know what it is), Hood Protector, Echo Master) some which I didn't want.

I didn't like the fact that I'd to pay the sales tax on full price including the rebate and there was $199 documentation fee which I was told it standard in entire NJ.

Can anyone confirm the doc. fees?

Overall, this site was extremely useful and helpful. I went to this dealership and came back 3 times earlier but I stuck to my offer based on reviews on this site and it finally clicked. Thanks all posters for your help. :P :)

    Neeedvan,

What is $500 rebate? Is it 7 or 8 passenger?

I'm told by a dealer that invoice price on LE 8 passenger Package #4 (BZ) is $26204.:surprise:
Edmunds.com shows $25,175. I wanted package #3 but he could only find Package #4.
He's willing to sell $300 over invoice + $125 documentation fee.

Also, he said, the difference between BZ for 7 and BZ for 8 passenger is that 8 passenger have three row side curtain bags extra. I think he's wrong. Please confirm :confuse:

    Thanks,
  • neeedvanneeedvan Member Posts: 17
    Caravan2:
$500 is the rebate from Toyota for 06 Sienna for NJ.
It's 7 psg but I was offered 2005 LE 8 psg with BZ for 24.5k

BZ for 7 or 8 should be same as 8 psg config has a middle seat in the 2nd row which I don't think required any additional side curtain bags.

If you are looking for BW(pkg #3) then I would suggest your best bet is darcars or carmax and in both case you will have to pick up the car from DC/MD area but their prices are the best I've seen.

Hey, just wondering if you finally bought a sienna in Tampa Bay. My father is showing up there in 8 days and wants to buy a sienna 05. He is getting off a cruise ship and needs wheels to get home to Washington State, where I want to buy it from him. I thought they would be much cheaper down in Florida, so would you be able to tell me which dealers I should seek out and what price you finally paid if you bought one?
    Thanks, Trev
  • trevgodtrevgod Member Posts: 2
What state are you in? the prices in Tampa seem to be around 26,000. How could they be that different?
  • caravan2caravan2 Member Posts: 198
    Thanks,

Is this rebate only for NJ? Where do I find this information? I can show this to the dealer here and see if he can do something about it.

Do you remember price for BW(#3) from darcars or carmax?

    Thanks,

I just looked at a web site that for 2006 Sienna's, they require Octane level of 91. Toyota web site says that they recommend 91 also.

Local dealer says, he never heard of this and use regilar gas with octane of 87.

Gas is expensive now and hate to buy 91?

    Any comments????
  • hansiennahansienna Member Posts: 2,312
2006 Sienna owner's manual states 87 octane but use 91 octane for higher performance. My friend has used 85 octane in his new 2006 Sienna in Salt Lake City area with no detectable engine knock and has averaged over 28 MPG with 2 refuelings. ;)

A buddy of my has a car dealership and he just got a trade in on a good deal on this sienna and knew that I need a van. He received a 2003 Sienna CE and want to give it to me for $10,500. It has power windows, locks, roof rack, 2nd row bench, am/fm cd, ac, cruise, radio control on steering wheel and full front air bags, rear a/c control. The only thing I worry about is it has 95,000 miles  on it. What do you guys think. I know since this is only a 2 year car, 95000 = alot of highway driving. I ran a car fax against it and realize that the last year, it actually drove over 60,000 miles. 60,000+ miles in one year..........its amazing. Over all the body of the Sienna is pretty good, just a few nicks and scratches, which is normal. Do you guys think I should jump on this or use that money as a down to get a brand new van.
    Thanks for any input.

Did you check Edmunds used car pricing as see what it is worth? Price seems about right...but a lot of people start looking for another vehicle when their vehicle hits 100,000 miles. Can you use your friends dealer info and call the previous owner to see if it was maintained properly. Or, if you could find out where it was serviced they would be able to print out that information with the VIN number. What month and year was it titled...it may be closer to 3 years old. If it was properly maintained it may be worth the risk. But, without knowing that I would probably pass.

Highway miles do not hurt a vehicle if it was driven normally ( NO towing, no extensive driving on dirt or gravel roads, etc.). My nephew has a 1987 Camry that has 460,000 miles on it now. Toyotas have one of the best long term reliability history of any brand.
As jipster suggested, use Edmund's used car pricing and use your judgement as to the condition of the vehicle. I feel like jipster and personally do not like to own and drive vehicles with 100,000 or more miles but one daughter is driving a 1991 Astro with 211,000 miles on it and takes it on trips 300 miles one way. :confuse: You may also compare with another un-named site just to confirm Edmund's accuracy. It appears that your friend is offering you a fairly good deal. :P
Just checked Edmund's Used Car Pricing. In OUTSTANDING condition there is an addition of $ 707 for total Trade In of $12,357 and Retail $ 15,668 for a Sienna CE with those options in my zip code area.
Values for GOOD condition drop to $ 11,647 Trade-in and Retail $ 14,817.
    Values for Average condition has a $ 1607 deduction for condition to $ 10,200 Trade-in and Retail $ 12,910.

Thanks Jipster and Hansienna for your valuable info. I've also test drove the car and its very quiet. I let go of the steering wheel on a straightway and the car goes straight. I'll probably bring it to the mechanic shop and have the mechanics check underneath to see if there are any wear or leaks that needs major repair. I am trading in my 1997 Nissan Quest that have 68,000 miles for $2800 to get a newer van. Reason being is that I wanted the extra door for conveniency and a newer vehicle for reliabitlity as my kids started to go to school and my wife will be using the van to drop them off and pick them up from school.

    Thanks guys.

I just got a quote on a 2005 Sienna LE with package 5 for $23320. Seems like a good deal to me, anyone else getting anything better? The prices might be getting better as the end of the month get closer. I have noticed that these '05 LE models aren't flying off the shelf, but the '05 CEs seem to be dissapearing, so they might be getting desperate to sell them. I also made sure to mention I was thinking of getting a new '06 Odyssey LX model for only $23800.
  • caravan2caravan2 Member Posts: 198
This seems a great deal. Is this 7 or 8 passenger?

Would you care to share the dealer info?

    Thanks,
  • abhaytabhayt Member Posts: 13
    HI Needvan,

I am also looking out for a LE - Package 4. You seem to have got an excellent price. I am also from NJ, would greatly appreciate, if you could share the name of the dealer.

Also, did anyone ever consider LE 2005 - Package ? if yes. What was the best quote ?

    Thanks a lot,..
  • coffmlucoffmlu Member Posts: 20
It's a 7 passenger. I got the quote from Diehl Toyota in York, PA. I'm sure anyone can use this quote to get their local dealer to go a little lower. Make sure you let them know you're considering the Odyssey too. I think a lot of places are ready to make a good deal on these LE models. The pkg 5 is the one with side airbags and vehicle stability control with traction control. I made sure to let them know the LX Odyssey comes standard with all these features. ;)
  • coffmlucoffmlu Member Posts: 20
BTW, that $23,320 quote is after the $1000 rebate for 05 Siennas. It's basically $1000 under "invoice" and another $1000 off with the rebate. Don't worry though, I'm sure they're still making some money off it. :P

Here is what I was offered a 2005 package BZ (#6) Silver LE Sienna
the price quoted to me is $25995-1000.00 rebate for a total of 24,995.00

of course thier is tax and tags and such is this a good price for an 05.

THis is the first dealer I went to and they said no one would touch this offer I just wanted to get everyone's opinion.

    THanks jaxydog
  • coffmlucoffmlu Member Posts: 20
Well, I walked out of Diehl Toyota in York, PA with nothing. I was ready to buy it but then they came back with a price for my old van that was way below the trade-in value. I told them it was worth way more than what they offered. A sales manager then came out and said that I was quoted the wrong price and they had to give me a low trade-in value to make up for the money they were losing on the new 05 Sienna LE. Funny how this only came about when I said their offer on my van was entirely too low. I then said I wouldn't trade in my car, but I still wanted it for the price they quoted me and they refused!!

If anyone live near York in PA, do not go to Diehl Toyota! They will try everything to make a little extra money. I'll be expanding my search this week to other local dealerships in surroundings cities.

I got the following from a dealer in Ohio. The invoice is $28,702 (LE AWD + option BJ + Destination + advertising). The incentive is $2,400 total ($1000 off 2005 model and $1000 off this weekend and a few hundred for others). I am still hesitating, but really tomorrow is the last day to get this 2005 bargain.

I just bought a 2006 LE sienna 8 passenger with BZ package this evening.
After much reading and lot of reviews I think I got a pretty fair deal

    Price paid $25900.00
    -500.00 rebate in NJ

Total cost $25,400.00 plus of course tax and tags.

If anyone would like information on where i purchased in South Jersey or with Whom let me know. thanks Everyone

I wonder what is difference in Invoice price vs wholesale price of Sienna. Consumer Reports web site that the provide both prices. I have not seen one.

Has anyone any knowledge of these prices? Was it any use during negotiations for buying new Sienna?

    Thnaks,
  • coffmlucoffmlu Member Posts: 20
According to edmunds, invoice price plus destination minus 1000 rebate puts it at $24,700. I think they should at least give it to you for this invoice price. If they say they are giving it to you for invoice, you better check to see if they are adding on other fees. Most likely they will try to sneak something past you. You could try to shoot lower. Maybe tell them you want it for $24,000 and see what happens.

I am interested in the 2006 Sienna Limited with added Nav/ DVD. I went to a local dealer and they would not give me a price until I was ready to sign. The salesmen said he could maybe due under 36000 for a MSRP of 41000, but I would like to know what people have been paying, so I have a starting point. Thanks
  • toyotasalestoyotasales Member Posts: 8
Have you ever seen the consumer reports guide to buying? It states that to buy a vehicle at 4-5% over invoice is a fair deal. How is it that you can honestly sit on here with a clear conscience and say that at $1000 under invoice and then a $1000 rebate that a dealer is still making money and should maybe be able to go lower. It is just appalling! It is just like what you said about your trade in. I know this to be true....I have never met a buyer that I ever sold a car to for too little, and you caan never give them enough for their trade! Understand this, form someone who does this every day for a living....If you walk into a dealer with a chip on your shoulder holding a grudge because of your previous experiences, and you try to steal the new car, then I can guarantee that thye will try to steal your trade. It is what is known as wholesale to wholesale. Good Luck in your search!!
  • michelle11michelle11 Member Posts: 4
The invoice is $28,700, which includes BJ, destination and advertising cost, etc. I also got $1000 rebate and $400 credit. I took the 3.9% APR in the weekend. This gave me $27,300 and 0 down payment. I guessed I bought the last LE AWD in the entire state. Still I am not sure it is a good deal. Any opinion?
  • coffmlucoffmlu Member Posts: 20
Excuse me, but I never expect to get a car under invoice, but that was the price they quoted me. Would you quote someone a price over the phone and then when they came in to look at it, tell them that was the wrong price hours later when they are ready to sign? You're right though, it is appalling that car dealers use these sneaky tactics to lure people in. The mistake I made was telling them I had a trade-in. They knew ahead of time they would just lower that price to make their money back. I don't think thats honest. Anyone else agree?
  • abinabin Member Posts: 18
Try www.carmax.com for their price "as your reference"
You don't have to buy from them and I am not associated with them.
There are many other similiar dealers' websites out there for Toyota and other makes.
Exercise your own judgement and good luck.

Just bought the XLE Limited with package #2. I paid invoice for the car (including carpet mats, window tint and front and rear splashguards). I ordered the Sienna information from fightingchance.com and compared it to Edmunds (for the Sienna it was the same). Invoice + package #2 (DVD and NAV) plus mats/window tint/splashguards came out to 36189.46. They gave me 22,200 for my 02 Acura MDX (tried to sell it on Ebay, and got 22,200 as a final price). I shopped it around at some other used car lots and couldn't break 21,000. I also got 1500 rebate + 500 military (good info on the military off of Edmunds since they never would have mentioned that to me). 3% tax in NC after the trade in + 289 doc fee + 55 to transfer the tags and the out the door price was 12753.14. Interestingly, I wanted 22,500 for my trade in and they wouldn't budge. The deal was in limbo for a week over 300 dollars. I finally capitulated after my wife threw in the towel and told me to quit screwing around and get the van. They would never budge from 22,200. Guess I was either close to the best deal possible, or they didn't need to sell me a van this month. I really enjoyed the info from fightingchance as it broke down every penny that Toyota was charging, and why - well worth 30 bucks. The dealership guys were pretty good, but I counted 4 or 5 times they told me either a half truth, or a just plain untruth (i.e. come in we found 6 vans for you.( when they had none)..... I can have that van here tomorrow (not even close)....come in we want to take another look at your Acura (never looked at it).....oh by the way that van we have been negotiating for the past hour has 4,000 miles on it and it's a demo.....

    Rt-1 Toyota OR Sansone's Rt-1 AutoMall.
They had only 1 LE with Pkg 4 when I took the delivery but they had on 05 LE with the same pkg but it was 8 seater. It's almost a week and they may have more stock arrived. So no harm in trying. One recomm. is that try to go when very few people are around like weekday lunch time.
    Hope this helps.

Yes, I agree mr. coffmlu. I also tried to make a trade-in when purchasing our mini last year. The saleman started tossing out all these numbers, trying to confuse us with the purchase price of our van, I just told them to forget about it. We sold our trade-in in a private sale and made an extra $900 over what the dealership had supposedly offered.

They are located in washington DC area. I looked at all of them for my recent car buying and helping my dad, my girlfriend ($$$ :D ).
    .
Some of them have price listed. It may not be the lowest you can get, but you can save some time for price negotiation. Others simply put MSRP and "invoice" there for reference purpose. All of them have their inventory posted, so the bottom line is, you can ask your sales to "move" the vehicle you like for you if he/she wants your business.
    .
When I looked at minivan for my dad, I also searched for Honda, the only one available on the web in our area is
    www.joneshonda.com at Lancaster, PA.
    .
There must be more out there for other areas. If any one knows additional "online inventory/pricing" sites, please share with us. I personally don't like the "online quote" which you have to leave your phone number before you can get the quote. Some of them still kept calling me even after I told not to call me, -- you soon will have all sales persons' name working in that dealership.
    .
Hope this helps and always exercise your best judgement.

    Is this a good price? price is 22927 + taxes = 24621.
  • hansiennahansienna Member Posts: 2,312
YES. ;) The price is $ 2,026 less than Edmunds TMV for a 2005 Sienna LE 7 passenger as $ 24,953 (Before taxes) for Denver Region after the $ 750 Toyota Rebate.
  • coffmlucoffmlu Member Posts: 20
That sounds like a great price (very close to the price I was originally quoted) :) Hopefully they won't try to offset this price by giving you a low trade-in price like they did to me. Are you trading in a vehicle? What area do you live in? Good luck :D
  • ritzritz Member Posts: 3
No trade in..He just gave me this price.. I am gonna pick up the van today.. Hopefully I can get better financing from toyota.. lot of newspaper ads had 3.9% from toyota but cudnt find on edmunds. was thinking of holding off to nov 1st to see if they have any further rebate but price point is very tempting. I am in chicago suburbs
