Yeah, I was blown away by the price as well. The list price on the Lorinser kit is something like $7K+ The best quote I could get from a dealer was $5300 for everything shown/ minus wheels. I am convinced that they will have to lower these prices because I am not sure who would pay this much for a kit for a $30k+ car. Now a $60K+ Benz is more in line with there pricing. Also, the prices on the STARTECH kit will not be out untill next month or so...but I guess it will be import priced as well??? Well the hell with thoughs kits....So you say you want to design a kit? I don't have an "M" yet but I am all ears. I have a couple of friends that are engineers with FORD and they told me about a prototype guy that has a shop here in Detroit that builds a lot of the concept cars for FORD, etc.. I had asked about some custom fiberglass work and molding work and they gave me the impression that this guy could and would do it??? He is supposed to be pretty good as well. So, yeah lets get together on this one. At thoughs prices I would be all in. I just need to find a car. I went to price a 2001 last week and the cost was a little more than I expected, and I qualify for employee discount! So, I have been looking for 00s and 99s w/PHP. I can't make up my mind what I want to do???
bullseye3, From what I was told this stuff is available. The dealers have pricing. The part# on the windshield cover is 100 188 0305 01 and it cost about $475 Look on the lorinser site under Aerodynamic body parts.
So you are going to roll on 20s .Will fill the wells pretty nice. Have you seen an "M" with them yet? I think the STARTECH demo has 20s. They list them. Going by the tire thickness they have to be. Check it out:
NICE!
www.discounttiredirect.com sells Konig 19" wheels I have not seen any other site that list 20" for the 300M. What brands are you looking at?
I remember a while back someone mentioned they ran into tie-rod end clearance problems when upgrading to larger wheels & tires... Seems like the consensus is that the Nitto 555 is a good tire and fits in a 245-45-17. Anyone go larger on the stock rim? Anyone go 20's yet or are 18's a much easier upgrade. Thanks everyone... still trying to get the car aligned and hoping the problem goes away when the goodyears go byebye
what time frame are we lookin at for a body kit? im not finacially ready at the moment but in a few months.... im definately interested in what ideas everone comes up with, sketches, whatever, show me the stuff!
got halfway thur the top portion and it started pouring down rain.. now i gotta go back to work in half an hour for a night interation of land nav, in the rain. yay. nuthin like truckin thru the woods in the dark in a storm, i can hardly contain myself.
I can't make up my mind yet. I like the clean look without the badges, but I also think there ought to be something on the car to identify it, and what better place than the rear end (a common view for other drivers!). I'm thinking about taking off the "Chrysler"s on the sides of the car (I like the clean look of Av's M!), and I also have the side marker light kit that would replace the side 300M plaques, which I probably would not remount. Personally I'm not fond of the concept of the wing on the back trunk - too big and too generic (the LHS comes with it; I don't want to make my M look more like an LHS!). I like the rear 300M plaque the best, and I would probably leave that on even if I took the rear "Chrysler" off. I don't think the lack of "symmetry" would be a problem, and I think it would look fine with just the 300M plaque on the back.
$11,000 for a paxton puffer install, I hope they are giving you the paxton headers for free, they are only $700 bucks, were $1000 a couple of months ago!! This is one problem that we have by sharing the same engine w/the Prowler, Inflated prices. Check out www.prowlerexcitement.com and you can find good links to engine mods ($$$$). The paxton kit even requires alot of fab work when installed on the Prowler . This will be a must see mod!! Keep us informed.
I agree with denverm and funroads confirmed it with his picture..the back looks great with the 300m badge only! I don't think symetry is an issue in badging. Just MHO, as asked...
I just made an appointment for my 15,000 mile service. In addition to the owner's manual items of oil change, check air filter, and adjust drive belt (and rotate tires), the service dept. said that their 15k service usually includes throttle body service (remove, clean, and set air flow) for $90 and battery service (?) for $40. My car is running fine, battery works great, and I'm inclined to skip these suggested service items. Any comments?
If it "ain't" broken, don't let them fix it until it is! Follow your manual's instructions. These "specials" by the "5-STARS" are nothing but moneymakers for them and not needed especially at 15,000 miles!
my 99 owners manual sez to do this if you plan on doing alot of driving at 75+ mph (to avoid heat buildup issues I imagine). So I assume it is just as safe at less than 75 mph!
Has anyone tried tires other than the 225/55 17 on the stock 17" rims yet ? The Yokahama dB looks loke a good choice but the closest size avalable is 235/45 17. I think 235 is too wide for a 7" wide rim.
I am about to go look at a '99 300M that a wholesale dealer friend located for me for $20,500. It has only 14,000 miles on it! Sun-roof included. He says the color is silver/gray. Does anyone know the official name for that color, and what you think of it with a dark gray interior? I checked CarFax and it has no recorded problems.
scotian, that cone design is for the PT--do they make one for the M--it would be nice having a cold air intake for the filter---that filter on the PT looks smaller than the cones our members are using--bigger should be better----I think the trunk looks good with a chrysler wing emblem centered below the brake light, like on Av's previous post---or just the 300M emblem would be fine if centered under light or over keyhole ala 300Michael---Av--did you show your car to the service writers and techs yet---i think you have to complain about the factory having left off those rear door handles :-)
It looked like you had a different taillight modification before -- were you able to remove the paint off of the taillights to do the new version, or did you modify a digital pic?
In 99, I believe they called that color --Platinum--they started using silver in 00--that sounds like a great price if its original miles and hasnt been in an accident--you should check out the history on that car on carfax.com--you need the vin number to run a check on it--I think there is a small fee involved but it may be worth it for the piece of mind--also have a body guy check it out to make sure its original paint and has never been hit---
I like the agate (dark grey) interior--that what I have--it does get a little warmer in the hot summer sun, but it looks classy---if that car checks out OK, its not a bad deal but it sounds like about book value, the the low miles is worth a little extra---but dont forget, you could get an 01 for probably about 28K--possibly a little higher if you take the low financing rate instead of any rebates--I paid 28600 for a 00 bot in March of 00 fully loaded except the PHG--but I also got the .9% financing for 5 full years--a real bargain!
good luck in your decision--you should join the Chrysler 300M Enthusiasts Club--it has loads of benefits for a very small dues fee---
Thanks for the opinions. As always, no help at all (just kidding) I tried removing the 300M badge on the trunk tonight and kept breaking the dental tape. Guess mine is on a little firmer than some others. Any other tricks? I think I'll start with the letters, stare at it a while, then maybe (or maybe not) take off the rear badge.
that first pic was just a digital pic.....but to tell you the truth, i don't like what i have right now (tailight wise). i should have gone for circles not ovals, but that paint won't come off so only other way is another set of tailights, i don't want the circle THAT bad. hey look, i spelled that right....
i got the appt on monday, i'm gonna walk into service dept and be like "yea i have an appointment for a window motor replacement, and also...ummm...i'm not real sure but, i think chrysler forgot to put handles on my car, i jsut noticed it. Rear doors only. and the front two, something is terribly wrong. they fly up!"
hahahah, ok i gotta write this down and pratice, lol. about the solenoids, look at my other post, i got some more ideas.....
oh boy, i was browsing throught all my newly purchases Low Rider and Truckin mags for door ideas, and good solenoid companies. well, here we go again...
www.autoloc.com is the place i am going to be buying my stuf from. well check this, i'm gonna have first and foremost, remote door open on rear doors, and then remote locks on front two doors. BUT, also....remote window roll up, roll down on front doors, trunk release, AND remote trunk close! sry i am just pumped up about this remote trunk close thing...now the hard part is gonna be syncing this in with my aftermarkter security system, especially since i haven't chose one yet. Alpine, DEI, or Clifford. not sure yet. but i emailed autoloc.com to help me out. the remote windows is pretty cool too, i hate it when i leave the window open a little, then have to go back into the car, put the key in, and roll it up. damn, that makes me sounds like a really lazy. k well, i'll keep ya posted....
hey i have Nitto 555's on my stock 17 inch rims. they are 245/45zr17. i think 245 is good for a 7 inch wide rim. more than that i think u are gonna go wrong.
Has anyone tried tires other than the 225/55 17 on the stock 17" rims yet ? The Yokahama dB looks loke a good choice but the closest size avalable is 235/45 17. I think 235 is too wide for a 7" wide rim.
I went to my local tire store and asked about getting wider tires. Their computer said something like 245/45, but I don't remember exactly. The key is keeping your spedo/odo within a couple percent of actual speed. Any good tire shop should be able to tell you what will fit. I was interested until I realized it would cost me $1,000 for about 3/4 inch more tire.
Maybe I should take my car over to Av's place to help remove my badges. I bet his car is so nervous now that when he gives parts a dirty look they JUMP off the car!
All these mod posts are giving me mod fever! I have a feeling that my wife is going to question my sanity once I get started. She already thinks I'm crazy because the last several nights have been spent in the garage with Zaino and my M! One night she brought my dinner out there...do ya think she was trying to make a point? Duh! I guess I should really start to worry if she throws my pillow out of the room :-|! After all...look...it's 12:20am and I'm still out here reading this forum and I have to be up in 4.5 hours. It's all good...
i had those horrible goodyears on there before (stock). i did not notice a harsh ride at all, difference was minimal. HOWEVER, omg u can handle so much better. A LOT better. like turning into driveways, parking lots, whatever, you really can corner well, and you feel the car WITH you, not like a huge boat you are lugging. best thing i have done yet for handling...
man if i knew all this when i put in my sound system, would of saved me hours with my multimeter and those freakin battery pop tests....ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Hey if you guys take all your Chrysler emblems off ,nobody will know who built your cars and then they wont be able to buy one . Then our sales will go down and I may loose my job. So leave them on and install more Chrysler emblems on your cars . LOL........OTTO
How much were those tires--does it affect speedo reading much--also are they all season tires of just for the warm part of the country---
Kpm: if you try out those Yokos, let me know how they compare to the Michelins you have--I may take those Michelins off your hands if you want to upgrade early--I had the Yokos on my Mark VIII and they were the best tires I ever had--handle great and wear well too---do you live in snow country---how are the Michelins in snow
Otto: especially Avs car---nobody is going to know who built "taht" car--maybe Av should paint the name-"Avalanche" on the trunk--then again, he could get sued by Toyota--:-)
well done chroming the grill with the wing on it. ill get the bottom one after work tomorrow. man it looks sweet, adds class in my opinion!
does anyone else get excited when they see other M's on the road? ive seen six so far besides mine. (not counting lots of course lol). the other drivers and i always seem to do the "sup" thing or the wave. it seems no matter the age, everyone has an unspoken group thing going, love of the car i guess!
well i have to be up in 5 hours going to the field yet again tomorrow. dang army.
$550 for a set. i live up in the mountains. used these babies in snow, ice, rain, everything. and now using in summer, they are awesome. i dont' think they are all season, they are sport tires, but i used them and they were real good. the speed was affected a lot. much much more smooth. on those goodyears, go like highway speed, and jsut swirv around a wee little bit, the back end will lose traction and it is very dangerous if in a real situation you had to turn or swirve hard, but in these nittos, they grab the road like a squirel on nevada. we put them on my dad's car, he had 305/35zr18 before, they wre Bridgestones, then we put these nittos on, he said the ride is 10 times better now and he can do a lot more than he could with those bridgestones. also treadwear is very good on these...
I would guess that the speedo would read faster than you are really going---that may be good for obeying speeed limits, but bad on the odometer come selling time.---definitely would be better if you had 18 or 20 inchers which should lower odometer mileage and handle and look even better
I'm trying to decide whether or not to buy a 2001 300M, and take advantage of the $1500 rebate - or wait for the 2002 to see what's new in features and colors. All Chrysler's customer assistance group can tell me is that the 2002 will be available in September. They claim that's all they know. Is anyone aware of what will be new for 2002?
Minimal changes for 2002. I think they've added a tire pressure monitor system (that's a good thing). They've also added another color, onyx green (lighter than shale green). Not much else to speak of as I recall.
Of course the 2001 will already be a model year old when you think of future resale value, depends on how long you plan to keep the car.
In addition to the Tire Pressure Monitor, the engine and transmission will now be controlled by a single computer rather than two seperate ones. The Onyx Green has already been added as a late 2001 color and on Carsdirect.com, they also list Light Almond (This looks like it is between Champagne and Cinnamon Glaze).
Thanks for the info. Seems like having only one computer would be an advantage as far as repairs go. Maybe I'll try to be patient and wait for the 2002, although it won't be easy.
Mike360--Saw two 01Ms at local dealer in Elizabethtown, KY, with a rebate listed on the windshield as $2,500. Is you dealer shortchanging you with $1,500?
One 01 M had the chrome shifter, the other leather, but the chrome was not listed as an option or charged for.
The had a juiced-up red Intrepid in the showroom running 17" rims and GY Eagle #1 yellow lettering tires. Never seen those before. Has anyone? Some sort of a racing package on the car which in cluded a "track bag" and special decals.
well having one computer instead of two may sound good, but just think of the cost if it fails. We have indeed started painting the Onyx Green as a late 2001 color , but not the Light Almond. If you really want to wait for a 2002 ,think about the 300 "Tuner Package" that will be out mid-year. Should have 300 H.P, dual exhaust, lowered suspension, 245-45-18 tires ,cool looking 18 inch rims and lower skirt package. Now this is the car worth waiting for.
One of the M's probably was built earlier when the chrome shifter was standard and the other after it was discontinued, it wouldn't be listed on the sticker. That Intrepid with the yellow-letter tires, the black wheels, and the track bag has the Motorsports option package that is right around $500. It is available on all the Intrepud models too, base, ES, or R/T. I saw a new Inferno Red one at a dealer last weekend and I thought it looked really cool.
