Just purchased an 03 Silver Sky Metallic 2WD SR5 for $36,000 out the door. Came with option package #3 (AR,CC,AC,DJ,GY,CQ,KE,DR,LF) with dealer adds of skid plate, cargo net and mats. Opted for 0% financing over 3 yrs instead of the 1000 rebate on the 2WD. If my math is correct, I'm within $100 of invoice, and the 0% was a deal clincher. Details:
    Purchase price-$32960
    Doc Prep Fee-$45
    Tax-$2723
    License Fees (estimated)-$267
    Tire Fee (California)-$5

All Toyota dealers that we visited seemed less pushy than a couple of years ago. As with any car buying experience, it pays to do your homework. Edmunds was a big help. I would suggest going to the Toyota website and getting a list of the four basic option packages offered for the Sequoia. Plug each one into the Edmunds Pricing Report so you have an MSRP and invoice breakdown for each package. Keep each handy as your shopping around, making sure to keep track of the dealer added options. My advice-get the cargo net and floor mats at your neighborhood WalMart and pocket the difference.

As I mentioned before, I ordered a LTD Sequoia to get exactly what I wanted, it was supposed to take 6 to 8 weeks and arrived in about two :). That was great - except I was on vacation when it arrived and my husband went and picked it up.

I was quoted a price of $42,350.20, total. My husband went and picked it up while I was out of town. Now, I was told that this price included vehicle registration tags and when I get home I find out that my husband talked to the sales manager about how high the tags would be. Well, now I find out that they did not include the tag price in the sale and my husband went down and paid an extra $900 for the tags!

I am going to call them this morning and ask for that money back. We live in Mississippi. Any comments? or suggestions?

I'm not real happy about this!

By the way, husband picked me up in the new Sequoia, kids and I love it!

Did you have something with the total out the door price written down?

Often when we talk about out the door pricing around here, it doesn't include TTL (taxes, title and license), since it varies so much from state to state. Or people buy a SUV for an out the door price and have it shipped to them from out of state and they pay extra to register it, pay the taxes, get the tags, etc.

Can I expect any additional discounts (excluding the unknown promotions) if I wait two months for the end of year clearances or is the TMV price the best I can expect.

    Thanks in advance

I have read several posts with $1000 rebates and low financing rates, but I don't see any incentives listed in Edmunds, and the dealer says there aren't any available on the Sequoia. Am I missing something?
    Thanks
  • jocigarjocigar Member Posts: 26
You can call toyota 800 331 4331 option 3. they will tell you if there is a rebate/promotiom in your area, but not how much it is for.

Currently most have customer cash back of 1000 or a low % rate.

Buying an almost loaded (no DVD) 03 2WD limited. Is 39K a good price???
  • nyhacknyhack Member Posts: 8
Where did you buy your limited???
  • biggiantsfanbiggiantsfan Member Posts: 1
...and pretty damn happy about that. Didn't think I got the greatest deal but nonetheless, a good one - $30,500, but I've got to fly from S.F. to Houston to pick it up. Dealer knocked off $500 for the "inconvenience" of flying out - I look at it as and "adventure" in driving it back, with a stop in 'Vegas to pay my Nevada taxes, and to show off my "almost-new" Sequoia.

Loaded SR5 4x4, except the on-board PC, DVD and moonroof (moonroofs are overrated anyway), 23k mi.

I just couldn't help myself...had to share it with someone!!!

Here in Atlanta, there are two dealers that feature an SR5, Ltd, and Ltd 4x4 in the newpaper every week. It lists a single stock number, but it seems to change as the vehicle sells. The Ltd is 37,5xx, give or take a coupld of hundred dollars. This if for a Ltd that has an MSRP of about 43k. I spoke to a sales associate and the GM. Both stated you can drive out for the price +++ (tax, tag, title). NO other fees. Other local dealers will not touch it...

what do you think of an 03 limited for $500 over invoice plus a $500 advertising fee? A rebate will cover the above costs.

Any guess at what incentive Toyota will after sep. on the 03 models? I know it's a good price but I am tempted to hold out and see.
  • nerdball99nerdball99 Member Posts: 4
Don't pay the advertising fee.... I didn't. I told them I was willing to pay $500 over invoice. They then promptly showed me their 'invoice' price which included the advertising costs, etc. I told them that this was not the true invoice and proved it by showing them a printout from Edmunds. I also told them that even at $500 over the true invoice price, the dealership was also making money with their holdbacks. They accepted it and I got the car for $500 over the the true invoice price.

This negiotiating process did not happen just in one day. The first day, we did the four square sheet and after a couple of hours, we still did not have a deal. They had all of my contact info and called me back a couple of days later and promptly consumated the deal.

By the way, I also had the option of getting the $1000 rebate or 0% financing. I took the financing.

    Hope this helps

    Thanks, It help a lot.

I am days from closing this deal and have a lots of questions if you care to share your experiance.

The sales person has been staight forward with me and insisted on the adv. fee. That truck had options I did not want and told him so. he replied saying that he had found another with just the options I wanted. thing is, in negotiating that price he did not ask for the adv. fee and his price was $200 less than invoice.
know I am feeling a little worried. COuld be that he found a differnt soure with less trasfer fees are something?

    Questions:

I am having him fax a worksheet first. should that have the vin # on it? should it have an out-the-door price and statement?

If I go down to close the deal, how much deposit at most should I put down?

How do avoid any last minute fees they might through in?

what is a Four square sheet?

Does the northeast have zero financing?

Sorry, getting close to the end and I don't want to screw-up a good deal with a mistake in closing.

Any an all advise based on yuor recent experiance is appreciated.

When will edmunds release the 04 prices on Sequoia?

If the sunroof is standard for 04, I can gain $800 just by waiting, even if the rebate goes away.

    any thoughts?

I went to look at the Sequoia yesterday. It is BIG. I am not ready to test drive it yet. I was put off by the salesman and his sales manager who were the worst I have ever encountered. I hope that they are not the norm for Toyota !

Anyway, they had at least 12 Sequoia's all loaded with garbage that I am not interested in. Thye both laughed when I told them what I wanted, tell me if I am off base:

4x4 TR5 w/ convenience pkg; preference pkg, leather seats, roof rack, keyless entry for $34,000. I ran the specks on Edmunds and it looks possible. Any suggestions ?

I don't think 34K will be possible with 4WD and leather. That would be right at invoice. I got mine in 2002 and paid about that with no preferred or convienence package. Expect at least 35+ and that's if you can find one speced like that. I doubt you will. Good luck

    Thanks for the link!

The price with options is less then the 2003 models do to the standard sunroof on the limited.
If I can get the 04 truck at $500 over, I should be ahead of the game.

I hope they continue the incentive/rebate after sep. 2nd.

Hi. We are going to be purchasing a Toyota Sequoia SR5 4WD as a replacement for a '96 Ford Explorer. We now have 3 children and need something big. We plan on trading in the Explorer. Does anyone have any opinion on whether they think we should wait for the 2004? We don't care about those couple of extra things that will be standard for 2004; we just want a good deal. Do you think we could get a good deal on a 2004 6 months from now or is it better to just buy a leftover 2003 right now? We live in Southeastern PA.

The Explorer is running great and only has 80K miles on it. We are only getting rid of it because of the space issue (hopefully, the Sequoia will help cut down on the bickering--my head is about to explode with the kids fighting in the car).

    Any opinions/info would be great.

    Thanks.

I had a deal for an 03 SR5 with the preferred package, dual zone air, moonroof, JBL premium, rear audio, conv. pkg., roof rack. It was 1,000 under invoice (@ 37,400). When I researched the 04 and told the dealer I could get the same options on the 04, and the invoice would be the same as the 1,000 off price, he agreed I was right. On the SR5 the rear air is now standard, and they have made power captains chairs standard, so the preferred package price has dropped about $600.00. So my 04 is due in about 2 weeks, and I got it for $37,500 (MSRP @41,300).

I thought I'd bought an SR5 for $1,500 under invoice (net of rebate) on Saturday. I was going to pick it up yesterday, and the car was not available. I guess they had to swap with another dealer to get it and they were all too busy this past weekend. Does anyone know what happens to the rebate after September 1st?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Does anyone know what happens to the rebate after September 1st?

If I had access to that info, I'd start my own web site and charge admission to get in :-)

Meanwhile, watch the Incentives page and the Toyota site. Plus someone will likely post in here once word gets out.

I have been working with a salesperson at a local dealership and discussed the new 2004 Sequoia's with him. I never mentioned a price and only about the options that I wanted. Here is his quote which is even below Edmunds invoice price.

    I can't believe it.

It probably does not exist. Notice that it says "SR5 Limited?" There is no such thing. It is either a SR5 or it is a Limited.

A limited version's MSRP is well above $39K.
A SR5 version with the options listed is well below $36K.

His quote does not make sense. Don't believe it.
  • nomariannomarian Member Posts: 19
    yickwo,

I called the salesperson and asked about the name. He stated that all Sequoias are basically SR5 units, but that this one was a Limited.

This is a very reputable dealership that our very large company deals with on a regular basis, so I have no reason to doubt him on the price. Here is the entire quote as I have it today.

  • femalebuyerfemalebuyer Member Posts: 9
nomarian, that still doesn't make sense. They are either SR5s or Limiteds -- it's a trim level. And there is no Limited with an MSRP below 40,000. However, you mention a spoiler, which is only available on a Limited. So I am still confused, but I would get it in writing, and make sure he's really selling you a Limited. But I still can't believe it's a Limited.
  • nomariannomarian Member Posts: 19
    Femalebuyer,

I know, I can't still beleive it. Before the detailed quote, I did ask him about Moonroof to test him. He stated that the moonroof was standard on the Limited, so that also leads me to believe it is a Limited.

I have made an appointment today to get this all down on paper and put a down payment on it. If it all rings true, then I will let you know soon!
  • yickwoyickwo Member Posts: 54
    nomarian,

I just wanted to make sure that you are not being ripped off and are getting a "limited" (it would say on the badge on the turck as well as the window sticker). The MSRP makes no sense as femalebuyer pointed out that the lowest MSRP on 2WD Limited is over $40K. In any event, if you can get a limited for $36K, all the power to you. Another trick they can do is to put either the PM packege or after market leather on the SR5 with the Wheel pkg 2 and call it a limited. I believe that the spoiler can be added as an aftermarket or dealer install option (no very sure). Good luck today. Please keep us informed.

I do appreciate all the help I received so far concerning this quote. I got back from the dealership and here is how it went.

I was a bit skeptical about the price and the first thing I did was ask if this was a Limited and not a pumped up SR5. He brought it up on his computer screen that they were getting (8) 2004 Sequoias and he then showed me the one I was thinking about buying. It did show as a 2004 Phantom Grey Sequoia Limited. I also noticed that the MSRP for the vehicle on the computer was $42,200 and not $39K as he quoted. I also noticed that it said that base dealership invoice on a plain Limited was $35,542. He still offered the SUV to me with all the options before for $36,260 as quoted in the email.

He also made a point to explain to me that his company was in negotiations with my company to sell us cars at a discount. We currently do this with Ford and Mitsubishi to name a few. We are a very large Global company in Texas. He stated that even though the plan was not completely finished, they were still offering me the price quoted in the plan.

I then had him write out the sale sheet with all the options and then all the costs to see what my out the door price was. There was no advertising fee or any other hidden charges. He was very pleasant to to the point. He stated that the vehicle on the computer had options like paint sealant and other items added, but he knew that I didn't want them and took them off. My out the door price with TTL is a bit over $38,000. I gave him my credit card to hold it so I have first option at buying it. It was not too good to be true. I even have a signed sales sheet to prove it now. I will wait two weeks and see what it looks like.

Everyone in here says "$500.00 over invoice" and comes to a different price. Here was my deal, Limited, SR,GY,HY,EJ,RF,RL = SUNROOF,FRONT&SIDE AIRBAGS,DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS, 6 in 1 CD,REAR SPOILER,REAR AUDIO CONTROLS w/REMOTE.I was told they don;t come with floor mats or sill protectors from the factory only after signing the paperwork. Amazing huh. No charge for Drone/Grinding noise from drivetrain while driving between 35-55 mph,Same problem with every 03 out there. $42,000 even with $1000 cash back. plus TTL.Truck floats all over hwy (Very Dangerous). Considering selling it with only 2000 miles on it. Any offers? We have had Toyota vehciles before, This NOT toyota quality. Go with a Lexus because they give better loaners when yours is in the shop.

  • robertbickrobertbick Member Posts: 28
Just made the deal on a `04 Limited with the following options; GY, HY, EJ, RF & RL. MSRP was $45,940 and I paid 41,700 plus TTL.
  • cricket9cricket9 Member Posts: 2
Robertbick... that is a great deal (only $265 over invoice). I assume that it is a 4x4 version. I am looking to buy a Sequia too, but the best deal I have been offered is $500 over invoice. Can I ask you if you live in the Bay Area (San Francisco) by any chance?
  • robertbickrobertbick Member Posts: 28
Cricket9... I live in Upstate NY and it was a 4X4. According to Edmunds, the invoice price is $40,638 for this Sequoia. I tried to buy it for $500 over that, but they refused and showed me their invoice of $41,244 which they said included the Toyata Advertising fees. Anyway, after a bunch of negotiating, we agreed on $41,700.

I don't know if all Toyota dealers pay this advertising fee or is it just another gimmick to get you to cough up more bucks. I feel that this fee should not be seperate but just included in the base price of the vehicle. I don't know of any other products that consumers pay a seperate adv. fee for.
  • cricket9cricket9 Member Posts: 2
Robertbick...the invoice shown on www.carsdirect.com is $41,435 which includes a destination charge of $540. Still sounds like a good deal.

BTW, I was running the numbers and it appears that an SR5 with similar options to a Limited comes out cheaper? The only drawback is you have to live with the two tone paint. Is there anything else anyone knows differently?
  • nhmikenhmike Member Posts: 2
I don't believe you can get the heated leather seats with the SR5, where they are standard on the Limited. If anyone knows otherwise please let me know.

This Saturday, my wife and I attempted to buy an ’04 Limited 4x4 with EY, GY, QA, EJ, RF, and RL. We had the Edmunds.com price report with us that showed the list for the vehicle of $42,150. I offered the dealer $43,000 + TTL. After an hour and a half of having me initial my offer and taking the offer back to the manager, the manager finally came out and told me that they could do no better than $45,283 – the TMV price that was shown in red on my price printout! After I informed him that I was serious about my offer of $43,000 and began gathering up my kids, the manager dropped the price to $45,000, and then to $44,700 and told me that that was his final offer.

We left and I went back to Edmunds.com and clicked on the “Get Dealer Pricing” option and selected 4 local dealerships in the Chicagoland area where we live. Interestingly, the dealership we visited (close enough to ride our bikes to with the kids in tow – AND the salesman is our neighbor) does not have a web site, and neither do the two other closest Toyota dealerships. Of the four dealerships to whom I submitted the request for quotation, two informed me that they couldn’t quote the car (one specified that they won’t provide internet quotes to folks living more than 25 miles away).

One responded with an offer of $500 over invoice for the exact specification. Their price was $42,955. I called the Internet Sales Consultant and put $500 down on the vehicle with a credit card and we should have our truck in 6-10 weeks. This was ridiculously simple.

The $42,955 price quoted is $805 over the published invoice of $42,150 (not $500). While I am very pleased with the price, I asked the Internet Consultant where the extra $305 came from. She told me that it is the regional Toyota advertising fee.

Fine, it is a great deal. And after what I was put through at the first dealership without even asking for a test drive I was perfectly happy to just buy the truck without all of the hassle. I thought that the manager at the first dealership would be savvy enough to recognize a motivated buyer with money burning a hole in his pocket, and would be happy to make a quick $800 bucks. While I sat there, I watched a parade of folks test driving, hemming and hawing, struggling with finances, etc. Many had probably been there before. The salesman will spend days with each of these people and may have a hit ratio of 20%.

I agree with you. I, too, was surprised that my local Toyota dealer refused to budge on his price after having spent time with me test driving, answering questions, etc. The internet dealer who responded to my request is 45 minutes away. But he sold me my '04 for $100 over invoice and no hassle. The local dealer pulled the hurt and offended attitude with me. He told me he had a lot of "blood, sweat and tears" in the deal and deserved it more. I wanted him to get the sale, but I wasn't willing to pay him $2,000 dollars more. I've had my '04 for a week, we love it, and I'm not feeling bad about the local guy who didn't get the deal.
  • katzatkatzat Member Posts: 45
My wife is a little concerned that when we take reciept of the vehicle in a couple months that my neighbor (the salesman) may be a little put out. I suppose I will have to level with him. At least he only wasted an hour of his (and my) time with me. He could have wasted less by simply telling me that the manager would never sell me the truck for nearly $1000 over invoice. Their Bottom Basement price at the end was still over $2,500 over invoice.
  • ar15ar15 Member Posts: 58
Has anyone used carsdirect.com? They claim they can get you a Sequoia for $200 over invoice and they'll do all the haggling. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

I paid 42000 for 2003 yr 4X4 Limitedwih following options:
    EJ JBL,6 Disc
    GY airbags
    RF rear spoiler
    RL Daytime lights
    EY Rear Seat DVD
    SR Moonroof
    CF Mats, Door Sill pr
    FO Sport Bumper Trim
    SO Sunroof Wind Deflector
Dealer however charged $3000 for Tx Title Tag, says they always add $400 as dealer cost. No matter how much you research, they have fees to match. Tax in KY is 6%.
Want to ask any one about the deal , did I pay way overboard or reasonable deal.
The last three options are useless and alone cost $691 in the invoice price. Above price is inclusive of $2000 incentive from Toyota for this month. Any comments

Yes, I used Cars Direct. That's how I found my dealer that sold me my 04 SR5 for $100 over invoice. No hassle, no guilt trip. Katzat -- remember that your neighbor could sell you the car for the price you want, he simply won't. Level with him, don't feel bad, and don't hold it against him. It's a business decision that he and his dealership have made.
  • ar15ar15 Member Posts: 58
I didn't get a call from Carsdirect until a day and 1/2 later. I was hoping to hear that they had located a Sequoia, but he had not even started - he was calling to verify my request. Then he said that because I live in Alabama it would be hard to locate a vehicle for me, but that he'd try. I called him back and explained that I live 50 miles from dealers in Florida and only 2 hours from New Orleans. We'll see...

The last car I purchased (a new Volvo), I used Autobytel. Within 30 minutes of submitting my request, I received a call from a dealership with exactly what I wanted and at the price I wanted. Later that SAME DAY, I drove home as a happy customer.
