The lowest the dealer would go was $19,400 out the door. This amount includes tax, title, all the fees, etc.. I already walked away from the deal (gosh it feels good to have a car that runs) but I still want the vehicle and plan to shop around.

The problem: I want Eternal Blue Pearl and when it hits the lot (if it hits a lot in my area) it is gone within days.

Any suggestions on getting the vehicle cheaper?
  • atlantabennyatlantabenny Member Posts: 735
If your sales tax is at 5%, looks like you're just right at invoice for an LX-auto, no side airbags, at $19.4k.

    Some suggestions:

    1) Based on prevailing OTD success stories so far (averaging $500 sub-invoice prices), set your target price at $18,500 OTD. This is about $900 below invoice - for wiggle room later. Tweak price according to sales tax. $18.5k has 5% tax included.
    2) If financing, get a pre-approved car loan before negotiating with dealers if possible. You can get quoted a fantastic price only to be had later with a boosted APR that adds profit to dealer.
    3) Internet-shop Honda dealers in your area; offer $18.5k OTD for your color choice. See how they respond.
    4) All thing considered, I believe your walk-away price is realistically $18.9k OTD.
    5) Use best quote when negotiating with your preferred dealer ("Dealer X is at $18.5k OTD for my preferred color. Match it and you get my business...").

    Hope this helps.

The best quote I've got so far here is $17,600 .. which is around $850 below invoice of $18,462.

    I'm still aiming at $17,300 .

The cheapest seems like that San Jose, CA dealer, which is selling at $17,288.. but only in Green and Silver.

I'm not in any Hurry, so I'll wait a little to see if my local dealers will budge.
  • bett1ebett1e Member Posts: 16
wouldn't budge. I have my own loan so they were just figuring in price and tax. The manager told me he had to make a profit and I was trying to steal the car. :-) We will see how desperate they are on May 31. Unfortunately, I will only buy the car in blue so, if no blue, no deal.

I heard this was the cheapest way to go but I can't get them any lower than the $19, 400.00. The dealer was at 19,900 but he did agree to drop $500.00 when my DX arrived with no AC and no hope for an AC for 2 months because of a back ordered compressor.

    Hi Hondakid,

I can give you a little help. The dealer cost in Canada for the EX-L is a little more than $2000 less than the MSRP. This is not the invoice price they talk about in the US but the dealer cost.

I have recently been looking to buy a 2003 EX-L Accord and will be getting a 5 speed for less than $700 CDN over cost. I did not get this price myself mind you. I had help.

I think this is a pretty good price as it is ~$1500 under MSRP.

I only wish I lived in Alberta and could avoid Provincial Sales Tax (7.5% where I am ... might be worth a trip).

    Hi all.

I've been following this board for a few months now, and thought I'd share my experience in case anyone is interested. I purchased an EX sedan, 4 cyl, cloth, automatic in Desert mist, with mud guards, moon roof visor, fender well trim, and door edge guards for $21,000 which included everything except sales tax and DMV fee. It was a price I was happy with given that a few months ago the dealers here were claiming to stay right around MSRP. One contact with the dealer's internet salesman and the deal was done. I have seen prices slightly lower on this board, but I walked away happy and without having to do any horsing around--and that is worth GOLD to me. I picked it up on Thursday and I'm very happy with it. Good luck to the rest of you who are still shopping!

    Hello All,
I live in Maryland and on April 26th I bought an EX/Auto/4 cylinder/cloth/4 dr for $20,600 OTD (5% sales tax in Maryland). The car also had door edge guards, fender wheel trim, splash guards, wheel locks, and a pin stripe (I paid them $75 for all the add-on stuff). I originally had a price of $20,525...but I didn't like the car they tried to sell me...it had been sitting on the lot too long. This price was about $1,200 (around $18,950) under invoice before taxes, tags, etc. Was this a good price? I don't see many postings about the trim line that I bought. Negotiating this price took a few weeks and various discussions with about seven area dealers.

I live in southern california, and i'm getting quotes from the pasadena honda for $20,700.00, destination charge is included already, just add tax + documentation fees. so out the door, approximately, $22,600.00 +/-. If anyone has a better deal, please let me know. This is for a LX V-6 coupe, no accessories, graphite pearl.
  • ani4aneyeani4aneye Member Posts: 3
I haven't seen too many postings of this kind. I think this one is one of the better bargains for the Accords. Just want to feel around what price is actually good for me.

If this is the same car you purchased, what did you pay for it? I am getting an offer for $20,700.00(destination included) + tax & license. If anyone can find it cheaper or has purchased for cheaper, please let me know. I live in Southern California, tax is 8.25%

New to the Town board from MD. Greetings all! Have been watching the discussion for a couple of days. Time to ask a few questions.

Looking for the best base price on an Accord LX (w/o side air bags). The best price I have been quoted so far is $17,200 (plus TT&F)(with a $250 parts/service coupon). About $18,700 OTD. Is that a good place to be these days?

For anyone with end of model year experience, can I expect to get a MUCH BETTER deal (on an '03)when the 04's come out? I am not in an extreme hurry to buy except that I am starting to 'catch the fever'? Passing our '96 Accord (w/ 140K) on to our son this summer. Still runs great.

Are there any 'to die for' accessories should I consider?

    Thanks for any help.

$19,100 plus tax and $45 doc fee for a Desert Mist LX 4 door automatic 4 cylinder with Ivory interior. If you live in California, you better hurry up and buy 'cause our sales tax is about to increase another half percent!

I called/emailed around yesterday and found that Landmark Honda in Alexandria was willing to sell for invoice. Invoice was 23.2k + dest + proc + tags so the total was 24.7k. Some dealers in the area seemed to laugh at the idea of selling at invoice, saying "that car doesn't sell anywhere near invoice". I had an excellent experience with Landmark and I love the car!

Also I found that when you call around and then email the Internet department at the same dealership, you'll get two different salespeople and typically two different prices. The salespeople don't like to give out numbers of the phone, saying instead that they'll work with you. You have to press them to give what their invoice numbers and fees are. It's worth it IMO than haggling on the dealership floor which is what they want as it is their home turf.

Hopefully the car will last 10 years and I won't the need to come back to these message boards very often. Best of luck to the rest of you.

I paid $23,000 on May 17, 2003 for a new Accord (2003) EX V-6 , no Nav in Blue. The price included all except sales taxes and $86. for registration. The dealer was in suburban Boston. This is below invoice. Is this a good deal?
  • mikek37mikek37 Member Posts: 411
24,700 is way too high, expect to find a price around 24,00 or even mid 23,000. But then again your area may have highe rprice levels.

23,000 is a good price, seeems a little too lw for me and I havent heard of anyone getting 23 exact. Did you havea trade in or do financing.
  • freezeepopfreezeepop Member Posts: 5
I've looked at them. The prices they quoted were at least $1000 more than I could get elsewhere. I wasn't overly impressed but their service is free (i.e. you get what you pay for).

If anything its a good starting point.
  • jbatluckjbatluck Member Posts: 4
One more thing I forgot to mention..that included VA taxes. I think I did pretty good considering I invested only a few hours in the process.
  • tpreillytpreilly Member Posts: 2
The negotiated price is with no trade-in and no financing. The car is already in stock. It is a cash transaction. I will pick up the car on Tuesday. On top of the $23,000, I will pay only sales tax and registration fee. I've scheduled to sign the documents tomorrow. Hopefully, the deal won't change when I arrive at the dealer!

I just purchased LX-V6 today, was a pleasant experience. Dealer quoted me at $20,700, dropped it to $20,600 when I got in there today.

this is what my invoice looked like:

    $20,600.00 - price
    $ 45.00 - doc fee
    $ 1,703.21 - tax (CA 8.25%)
    $ 180.00 - tag fee
    $ 5.00 - tire fee
    _____________________

    $ 22,533.21 - OTD price

Awesome deal, haven't seen a better one yet, if you got a better quote, please let me know. I'm curious, and if anybody else is out there looking for a honda, i defineitly recommend the LX-V6 model, it's perfect for the price and the features. I have the Graphite Pearl and I couldn't help but drive on the freeway all day, it's so fun to drive. So far so good.

If anyone is looking for a good deal, tell dealer about this price quote, or if you found a better one, let me know.

Accord EX-L V6 Sedan, paid 24K even plus tax and license, came with rear deck spoiler, mud guards and chrome wheels. Basically, invoice with the chromed wheels thrown in free. What they are worth I dont know. The sticker the dealer added was marking the chrome up 1995.00, what a crock. Tried to get them to put the stock wheels back on and give me the car for 22K, but obviously no go. Thought the deal was fair. Anyone know what chromed wheels are really worth?

I wanted a Graphite or Silver V6 w/Nav model and it proved to be a tough search! After we agreed on a price of $25,589, with added on rear wing, the search was on. Nothing available as far away as PA. So, the search of scheduled manufacturing showed one due to be available 4 weeks out. After much haggling and threats of taking my business elsewhere, I was assigned the car (Silver/Black). That's just about invoice cost for a car that had to be searched for. I'm happy with the results.

Trying to help my parents get a decent deal on a 2003 Accord EX V-6 (w/o nav system). Dealers in Sacramento area have advertised it for $23.8k (before taxes etc.) I believe this is about $2,500 below MSRP. Is this a decent deal? Any dealers in the Sacramento or Bay Area where they might be able to get a better deal? Thanks
  • mikek37mikek37 Member Posts: 411
That isnt a bad deal. I got the same car, for 23,900 before taxes, which included the metal trim kit and chrome exhaust tips. U might be able to do a bit better. Good luck!

I am interested in the 03 V-6, 6-speed and would like to know what kind of deals people are getting. You always hear the Dealership stories about limited production and high demand but the car is still sitting on the lot 6 weeks after delivery.

    Thank you.

My Friend paid $25768 for V6 EX with Navigation at Larry-Hopkins (including Standard Floor Mats and Wheel locks, nothing else) last week. But I got it today from Capital Honda for $25689 with exact same configuration. [[ Both deals were within $50 of Internet quotes from these dealers. Worst Internet price in valley was from Autowest Honda for $26972 ]]

Today's Atlanta dailies show Zero APR/60 month offers by many but not all Honda dealers. One advertised 2.9. One ZAPR dealer gave an example of MSRP/60 months.

Bottomline: not a true ZAPR deal. If so, all Honda dealers would offer it, and there'd be no MSRP (which negates low APR benefits) examples.

Live in Fresno, Ca. and was referred by carsdirect to stevens creek honda in San Jose for purchase. Bought the car yesterday for $21722 plus tax, lic, reg. which totaled $23672. out the door. Honda financed for 3.4%. Their best rate was 2.9% but could not qualify. (memorial weekend finance promotion) Any thoughts on the price?

Just picked up my silver accord 6 speed from miller honda in culver city, ca. AAA price was $24,764. With rear wing spoiler, mud flaps, wheel locks and cargo net price was $25,343 PLUS TAX AND LICENSE. I thought I got a good deal. What do you guys think?
  • marcegmarceg Member Posts: 8
Thanks for the input. I'm going to try the Internet to get some quotes from local Honda dealers. Hope to receive some bids below the $23.8k some have advertised. Probably won't be much below that amount but as you suggested, might be able to get some accessories (auto dim mirror, spoiler) thrown-in. Let you know how it turns out - parents will probably be purchasing the car sometime in June.

I'm looking to get an Accord in the DFW area. More or less leaning to the 4-cyl Sedan with Leather. Anyone get a good price in DFW? I bought a Civic from Rusty Wallis and an Odyssey from McDavid but my sales guys are long gone.

Honda Cars of McKinney - $500 over invoice
    Huggins Honda - $21,200.49
    Vandergriff Honda - $21,187.69
    John Eagle Honda - $21,100.00
Mark Roberts Honda - $316 over invoice (The best sales experience you will ever ever have!)

I just bought the Accord EXL automatic in Graphite Pearl with a spoiler. I had a 2001 Accord EXL to trade. I paid 23.6k OTD for the car. I got 13k for the trade in which was more than blue book, I had 60k miles and the transmission was replaced and got 2.9% for 60 months and 100,000 powertrain warranty. Took the deal to 2 other dealers. One didn't have that color but would beat it by $200 on a black with tan interior, and the other would match but not beat the price for graphite. I guess this is the going price down here.

I have been preapproved thru Honda Financing and followed hmurphy's advice to the letter and here is what I am being offered for a 2003 Accord EX V6 Graphite Sedan:

Highland Park - $23,400 (in stock Beige or Black w/tan leather) 4.1% apr

    Jacob's - $23,543 (7% min tax) Graphite 4.1 %apr

    Schlossman's (in WI) $22,990 4.1% apr.

I've put in a quote request from Rosen's in Gurnee - we'll see if they can compete.

I'm thinking I'll go with Schlossman's unless Rosen makes me a better deal. Do you all think paying Illinois taxes at the DMV is more hassle than its worth? Is 4.1% competitive, especially in face of the 1.9% Volks Passat offerings?

I'm hoping to buy today, and I'd really appreciate any feedback you may have before I make a final decision. Thanks!
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 264,543
    1) The difference in financing is about $1.00 per thousand.. $20 on a $20K loan. However, I doubt you can find a simalarly equipped Passat for anywhere near $23K, making the Accord a better value IMO. Thats not even bring up reliablity issues.
    2) The out of state offer is $410 less than your next best offer. I don't know what you make, but that seems worth the hassle of going to the DMV yourself.
    3) If you'd rather not go out of state, try running that $22990 deal past one of the in-state dealers.
    4) Even your highest priced deal seems pretty fair.

    regards,

As a follow-up: I went with the Wisconsin deal -

    2003 Accord EX V6 Graphite Sedan - $22,990

Rosen's in Gurnee was interested in competing, but the internet dealer wrote me a few hours later to say he couldn't compete with the other offers due to their current inventory (whatever that means).

$250 reserved the car, and I'll take delivery between June 11th and 20th. This has been a LONG process - I had no idea how much effort it truly takes to research, shop, and research some more to get the best car at the best price. This forum has been invaluable to me, and I thank you all for your opinions, and advice!

Hi all...After literally months of reading the boards, I purchased a 03 accord ex auto sedan yesterday at John Holtz Honda in Rochester, NY for 20,200. Out the door with 8 percent NYS sales tax, dmv fees and hand wax on the vehicle, I paid 21,933. I love the car and think the price is great!!! What do you all tlhink?

After some months of decision making (See Accord vs. Camry board) we finally got the new Accord LX Sedan auto in Graphite Pearl. We tried the online/faxing all dealer in a 75 mile radius and received bids around $17,800 from Racine and Milwaukee area. Included destination/fees but not options/TTL. Much better than we anticipated! Love the car - even after driving home through Tornado warnings!

I'm surpised people haven't been talking about the 2.9% financing that honda offered over memorial day weekend.

I got my exv6 coupe on Memorial Day for $23,764 + ttl and 2.9% for 60 mo. I put down $5k though. This was at Kolbe Honda in SoCal. Not sure, but I think the 2.9 saves ~1000 compared to 4.9%.

What was cool was that I was the first one to test drive that car. It had only 2 miles on it and plastic all over the place (the test drive route takes ~4 miles).
