    Gregg,

Thanks for the info. I stopped by a dealer and could easily identify the newer models by the trunk. They still had a few of the older models.

Anyone get any deals on the G35 coupe in the Los Angeles area? My dealer told me MSRP, plus I would have to take some dealer added options as their markup.
  • gilgumgilgum Member Posts: 4
Can someone explain what VPP is and who is eligible to participate in it? I saw some prior messages referencing VPP pricing which looks very competitive but don't know what it is.

    1. I got a report on the G35 sedan from Consumer Reports. They say the dealer holdback is $800+. My local dealer says its actually $345, says the discrepancy is because dealer holdbacks are set on a monthly basis and CR's report is out of date.

This is in reference to a model that's been on the lot since Oct.

    who am I to believe?

    2. "advertising fee". after negotiating a price, they come up with a $345 advertising fee. I intend to refuse to pay this; it's just a way of padding the profit on the car.

there seems to be a big holdback on these vehicles
and they are not selling real fast from the looks of the
on-line inventory. So I intend to hold out, knowing that I may be forced to go to another dealership.

    is this reasonable?
  • dorcusdorcus Member Posts: 4
I've read some of the postings about what is different about these two versions of the G35 sedan. But did Nissan/Infiniti raise the price when they introduced the "bug fix" 2003.5 model? these are the numbers I get
    from Infiniti's on-line site:

    old model: new model:
    base price 28,950 29,650
    prem pack 2200 3200
    xenons 550 0
    winter pack 250 630
    dest 545 545
    wood pack 250 250
    total 32,765 34,275

    both include power sunroof

so, aside from changing the trunk lock and making what another poster described as minor changes to the car, did they also increase the price? leaving aside these minor changes, are these equivalently equipped cars?

Is there something wrong with the earlier model that would recommend passing it up in favor of the later, more expensive model?

anyone understand this better than me? thanks.

Hpark_home: What was the MSRP of your car?
  • cheerioboy26cheerioboy26 Member Posts: 412
the winter package on the 2003 was 600 something IIRC- not sure where the 250 number is from. The 2003 premium package price didn't include the sunroof although it was a required option for $1000. I think they might have bumped the price about 1-200 dollars in addition to the 550 for the xenons. They added a power outlet on the passenger side, and a full length cargo net (mine is only 1/2 across)
  • dorcusdorcus Member Posts: 4
the winter package price was a mistake--it is $630 on
    both.

the inexplicable thing is that the original 2003 model has the premium package at $2200 and includes the sun roof with no additional charge. I had heard it was
a required option ("required option": whoa) too but
    not on this particular vehicle.

that must be the source of the price discrepancies.

so, did they make any significant changes to the car when they changed it? I will look at the trunk business but the changes were minor, correct?

the other consideration with a new model is that there might be some possible benefit to getting a car that
was produced somewhat later, after they had some
    practice.

my local dealer is offering $31, 587 for the "older"
vehicle. that includes leather, premium, winter, sunroof,
wood, xenon headlights. this seems like a good
deal, unless there's something grossly the matter with the
    trunk release!
  • ryokenryoken Member Posts: 291
There's the new cosmetic trunk, with the latch gone and the interior release switch added. Full-width cargo net instead of half-width. Passenger side 12v power outlet. Dropped Twilight Blue from, added Carribean Blue to color choices. Sunroof now part of premium package instead of being a required option (ooo, aaah..). Xenon's are standard. The Infiniti logo is now embroidered on the front seats. Plus the "bug fixes."

Any price change upward is negligible, as it's the coupe that's hot right now, and you should be able to get a deal on the sedan. My local dealership must have nearly 20 sedans just sitting on the lot, but I don't think I've seen more than 2 coupes on the lot at once.

For G35 Sedan w/ Leather model, the cost about $29,xxx. Any one know how much % of tax will be added in Los Angeles, CA? 8.25%? Please adv. Thanks.
  • cheerioboy26cheerioboy26 Member Posts: 412
The MSRP on my 2003 sedan was:

    Base leather 29,650
    Premium 2200
    sunroof 1000
    winter 450
    xenons 550
    wood 250
    trunk mat 70

    total 34,170

Those numbers come from the Infiniti PR from last year when the G was launched. I thought my MSRP was 34,185 so I am not sure of the $15 discrepancy - I'd have to check that at home.

    Seems like a good deal.

    Tony...

Thanks for the assessment of Hawaii dealers. I'm looking into CA deals...brother-in-law is in the business. There is no doubt I'll save, even w/shipping costs.

Would prefer to support the local economy however, if these guys will only move $500 off MSRP then to CA I go.
  • dorcusdorcus Member Posts: 4
thanks for the helpful and accurate recent posts from various people about the differences between the 2003 and 2003.5 models and the MSRPs.

I decided to go with the 2003.5 model for a little more $$
(still < $32K). the 2003 was the oldest G 35 on the lot
and although I didn't have any problem with the original
trunk latch, I like the fact that the 2003.5 is satellite
radio ready and the 2003 isn't. eventually satellite will
be available as a dealer-installed option but not on
    the 2003.

also in a new model year why buy the first one off the
    assembly line?

as a poster suggested, there was room to negotiate
on the sedan and a lot more of them on the lot.

a lot of useful information on this bboard....

    Gilgum,

MSRP on my car was as following:

    Base $29650
    Premium $3200
    Winter $630
    Trunk Mat $60
    Wood Trim $250
    Destination$545
    Total $34335

    I paid $31565.
  • hpark_homehpark_home Member Posts: 8
And yes, it is a 2003.5 model.

Who's offering the best deals in Chicago area on sedan g35? Prem Pak, winter pak, trunk mat, wood trim, and splash guards. MSRP $34,455 including dest. Invoice price $31,072.
  • vinnynyvinnyny Member Posts: 764
    Some caveats:
    1) If you ship a car over, make sure the dealer gives you the MSO. Hawaii DMV won't register the car without it and the dealer will probably hassle you if you ask for it after they have their money.
    2) If you have the dealer deliver the car directly to the shipping company using a dealer plate, you shouldn't pay any sales tax in CA. The business manager will try to charge you, but you don't have to pay it. You'll pay the 4% use tax to HI later.
    3) You're also exempt from the tire disposal fee.

By the way, if you find a good deal, please let me know. I'm still contemplating buying a coupe.

    Good luck!

I got my G35 Sedan from Passport Infinity in Alexandria, VA.

    Base with leather - 29,650
    Premium package - 3,200
    Sport package - 425
    Winter package - 450
    Trunk mat - 70
    Aero package w/spoiler - 550
    Destination - 545
    Total - 34,890
    Paid - 32,800

    Rocketgirl,

Congrats! I got my Infiniti from there as well on 12/30/02.

It seemed to me like that dealer wasn't doing a whole lot of business--perhaps they don't get much exposure from being on a smaller side street. That worked to my advantage, so I'm not complaining...
  • gilgumgilgum Member Posts: 4
Thanks for the msrp info. Sounds like you got a great deal. Dealers in and around Chicago aren't going anywhere near that price. At least one dealer in the Chicago area is around $1300 off msrp which seems ridiculous. Dealers need to realize cars are commodities and it makes no difference where you buy the car - It's the same car!
  • bitnoj1bitnoj1 Member Posts: 17
Where in Ohio did you get your great deal? Who was the dealer? Also what kind of prices are they talking in Indianapolis, IN? I'm about 2.5 hrs away.

Well, I picked up my new Brilliant Silver/graphite G35 Sedan 1/11/03 from North Shore Infiniti (Long Island, NY), and boy am I as happy as a pig in mud.

I live in Southern NJ, and lurked on these townhall boards for sometime and also on freshalloy, where I learned about the good service people were receiving from the Internet Manager there (Michael Weitz). I know Michael reads these boards as well- Hi Michael. And first I checked with my local dealers and no one would give me a good deal- but then i contacted Michael- and I am so glad I did.

I ordered my car (I wanted a specific configuration that no dealership would have on hand--see below) in September and the order was processed the beginning of October for a tentative delivery in December. My car arrived right before New Year's, but I just managed to get up to LI and get it.

Here are the stats on my deal:

    2003(.5) G35 Sedan---MSRP--$29,650
    Destination---------545
    Sport Package-------425
    Moon Roof----------1000
    Winter Package------450
    Trunk Mat----------70

    Total MSRP-----$32,140
    Purchased at----$30,201

I did not want the premium package, the aero package or the Bose radio- so the car had to be ordered.

I handled everything via phone/fax/ and email. I went up to the dealership and spent a grand total of 45 minutes there and grabbed lunch in Great Neck then drove the hour and 45 minutes back to South Jersey. It was a wonderful experience all around. If anyone wants contact info for the dealership or any other details- drop me an email- gperr@comcast.net

Glad to be a new member of the club.

Anyone out there with experience of buying from the Huntsville Alabama dealer? Also any experience from Birmingham, Chattanooga or Nashville...these three cities are about two hours from Huntsville.

What kind of prices are you paying?

    Thanks.

Anyone have any experience with Orlando Infiniti? Looking for a G35 with premium package. What was your best price?
  • coolpop36coolpop36 Member Posts: 65
My experience with Orlando was that they played games and were less than truthful. I went all the way to Melbourne to get my G and it was a good experience - no pressure, no hassle, very up-front with things.

I just bought my car. Leather silver G35, premium package, winter package (heated seats, mirrors, full size spare), wood trim and $70 worth of carpet in floor and trunk. I paid $32,300.00. Based upon what I have read, I feel as though I received a good deal. Looking forward to picking up my car tomorrow.

I recently leased a Garnet Fire / black leather interior G35 in the St. Louis, MO area. Based on other postings, I think I got a very fair deal...$2,200 under sticker. Here's the specs:

    2003(.5) G35 Sedan---MSRP--$29,650
    Destination---------545
    Sport Package-------425
    Sun Roof-----------1000
    Aero Packagae-------550
    Premium Package----2200
    Trunk Mat------------70

    Total MSRP------$34,440
    Purchased at----$32,240

    Lease Specs:
I read in another posting that the residual for a 39-month lease is 56%. Through Infiniti, that is correct, but the dealer found a lease through Chase Auto Finance which used a residual of 58%.

Money factor with Chase was .0025 or 6%, which was a little higher than through Infiniti (.0024 or 5.76%), but the higher residual clearly made Chase the way to go.

Here's a link to a great loan calculator to determine your monthly payment....

Picked up a G35 with leather, sport pkg, areo pkg. premium pkg., Bose, Nav, winter pkg., trunk mat for $800 under sticker. It was the best looking one on the lot for what I wanted...maybe could have done a little better, but the price for the performance and options doesn't compare to Audi, BMW or Lexus. I am satisfied as a few hundred bucks either way really doesn't matter.
  • tom17tom17 Member Posts: 134
Who was your salesman at Infiniti of Melbourne?
    Thanks.
  • coolpop36coolpop36 Member Posts: 65
Tom Jones, but he is unfortunately not there anymore.

Just ask for the GM Tom Simms, who is a very cool guy, he'll probably hook you up with either Ron or Frank, both of them good guys as well.

I'll tell you, I'm not usually one for praising car dealerships, but this one is very laid back, knowledgeable and fair.

I'm hearing about good deals on the east and west coast. Anyone have a good experience near
Chicago, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin area? Is $2000 off sticker for the g35 out of the question in this area?
  • stuartzstuartz Member Posts: 4
I'm interested in purchasing a G35 sedan in the Orlando area. Coolpop36, I see from previous messages that you purchased in Melbourne. Can you tell me how much off sticker or over invoice you paid? Did they have any of the "dealer fees" like Orlando Infiniti does? Any information you can give me will be very appreciated. Thanks
  • kentremakentrema Member Posts: 1
I went to a dealer in the west side of town and received this deal for G35 Coupe Auto.

    Item Price
    Silver G35 Cpe 31400
    Destination Chg. 545
    Prem Pkg. 2250
    Sport Pkg. 600
    Mat 70
    Tint 395
    Total 35260

The dealer didn't have a car for me to test drive, but would have a car coming in early Feb.
I put a $1000 deposit on it with a promise from a sales person that it is fully refundable if I did not like the car.

    My question is:

1.)Is that a fair deal? My dealer won't budge on the MSRP on the Coupe whatsoever. The salesguy said I couldn't get anything but MSRP on the coupe in Texas or Louisiana.

2.)Is my deposit really refundable? I am just a little concern.

    Thanks.

G35 Sedan w/ Leather (that's it - I prefererred the car w/o sunroof as I am almost 6'4" and the sunroof protrudes into the headspace)

    MSRP : $30,295

    I payed : $28,800 + fees, tag, tax, & title.

The car is for my wife and she is in love with it. No rattles, no noises, no problems.
  • stuartzstuartz Member Posts: 4
JJFlorida1, who is the dealer in Tampa? Did you go through their internet department? What were their dealer fees? What was the buying experience like? Thanks
  • coolpop36coolpop36 Member Posts: 65
I didn't like Orlando Infiniti - played a lot of games and blatantly lied to my face about the invoice price, the holdback, TMV, profit margins, etc. I do my homework whenever I make a major purchase yet they still stood firm with what they were asking me to believe, and that totally shot their credibility with me. Plus, they wouldn't even come close to matching or beating Melbourne's price after assuring me that they would.

I bought a Garnet Fire/Willow, Premium, Wood and NAV (which, by the way, is AWESOME. I will never again own a car without one). Sticker was $35,715 and I got it for $33,600 or about $2,100 off MSRP. Yes, there was the non-negotiable $398 dealer fee, but after a little more negotiating they gave me $500 more for my trade, so no big deal.

You should be able to at least do as well, maybe even a little better, since sales have got to be slow post-holiday time.

All in all, a very pleasant, non-confrontational experience. If you do deal with them, let me know, as I'd be curious as to what you think of that dealership and how you do on the price.

    Good luck.
  • serebigalserebigal Member Posts: 4
You should not purchase the G35 Sedan at no more than 4% above invoice. Infiniti of Melbourne's Internet Quote starts and stays there. 3% above is possible on select colors and options. They will also sell a Coupe for under MSRP
  • tom17tom17 Member Posts: 134
Thanks for the reply about Tom Jones. I had bought 2 Infiniti's from IoM when they were under the old ownership. I am surprised they have a $398 dealer fee now, it used to be $0. Their service department is great. I still always get a loaner car even for my 13 year old Q45. I had a G35 loaner about a week ago and drove it to Orlando and back. It is great around town, but would prefer a slightly smoother ride / less noise on the highway. I am trying to decide between a new G35 or a used Lexus GS400/430.
It is real unfortunate the turnover of sales people at car dealers. I had talked to Tom Jones (recommended by Laura in service) on the phone a few times in the past. I was surprised that he has not called me recently, but now I know why. Do you know why he left?
  • jjflorida1jjflorida1 Member Posts: 2
I live on the east coast but the two dealers in my area did not have the car I wanted. I dealt with Abe from Infiniti of Tampa on the phone. We negotiated the price over the phone but I refused to give them my credit card for a deposit. Eventually we agreed that my word was good enough and I picked up the car over the weekend without any problems. The entire purchase took no more than 30 minutes once we arrived.

Dealer fees were $399 and were non-negotiable. I bid $27,800, $28,000 and $28,600 but they would not bite at those prices. I feel like I got the the best price that I could.

Abe is a good guy. He wants to sell cars so he can get his bonus at the end of the month. It seems like some of the salesman I spoke to didn't even want to sell their cars.

BTW - Did anyone install an aftermarket wood kit or consider it? I was offered the entire kit installed from the dealer for $495 in a dark burlwood. It covers all of the plastic titanium trim which comes with all G35's (almost 40 pieces).
  • coolpop36coolpop36 Member Posts: 65
Yeah, Tom Jones went back to BMW. Apparently he felt he could make more $$$ there.

As far as your comment about wanting a smoother ride with less noise is concerned, I'd suspect that your loaner had the Goodyear Eagles on them. Those tires were on my car when I bought it and after 3 days I drove right back to Melbourne to get them OFF. Melbourne replaced them with the Bridgestones, themselves not a great tire but MUCH smoother and quieter. I drive 85mph all the time on I-95 and the car is smooth and quiet. Not as quiet as the wife's ES300, but definitely not noisy.
  • coolpop36coolpop36 Member Posts: 65
I'm considering a small wood kit from Jason at Burtman Industries. He seems to have the exact match for the factory wood.

A friend had the 40+ piece kit installed and to me, it's just too much. It's everywhere - Lights, vents, clock, all over.

All I want is the center console area (NAV, radio, shifter) and door lock area. I think it's 15 pieces.
  • nicdmxnicdmx Member Posts: 35
Anyone gotten any good deals in and around Michigan on a G35? I rarely see the car on the streets around here, probably due to the fact that few purchase rear wheel drive cars due to the snowy winters.

I'm planning on purchasing one this spring and am hoping dealers in Grand Rapids or the Detroit area will offer me a good deal, but haven't seen anything posted here about prices payed in the area. Seems like considering the low demand in the area that a good deal could probably be found.
  • tom17tom17 Member Posts: 134
The G35 was not excessively noisy, but about 2 dB over my 90 Q45 per my sound level meter.
So did IoM replace the Goodyear tires with the Bridgestones for free? I will have to check out the G35 loaner (they only have one, it is white) and see what tires it has. Were the Goodyears RSA's? Thanks.

Infiniti of Orland Park, IL. got the best deal in Chicago.

I just purchased an Infiniti G35 from Infiniti of Orland Park, IL.

I got the best deal among all the Infiniti dealers I talked to.

It was the nicest experience I've ever had with any car dealer and I've purchased 3 previous cars before this one.

What set's it a part among other Infiniti dealers or any dealer I've dealt with is their willingness to work with you to negotiate the best price.

They are not stuck up or think they have to make a minimal profit way up there near MSRP.

While most Infiniti dealers talked about how much they are willing to go down from MSRP, Orland Park worked with you at the other direction (above invoice).

I got the price I wanted which was really great! and the best thing is we did it over the phone.

Once we set the price, I headed down to the dealer and I paid exactly what we agreed on on the
    phone not a penney more.

I highly recommend if you are looking for an Infiniti in Chicago area to contact Infiniti of Orland Park, IL.

I wanted to share my experience with those still strugling to find a great deal when this car (G35) is hot on the market.

    Thanks

I'm in Oak Lawn, so Orland would be the closest. I've driven past a few times and it seems that they have a bunch there. Did you get a coupe or sedan? how much over invoice did you end up paying? Who did you deal with? any strategic suggestions? Have a QX4 from Fields in Glenview, good experience there too. In 99 they blew out the 2000's below invoice. Obviously wont' be the case here though.
    thanks
  • coolpop36coolpop36 Member Posts: 65
Yep, replaced 'em for free. GM Tom Simms was very cool about the whole thing.

Like I said, the Bridgestones are marginal but a HUGE improvement over the Goodyears. In the next month or two I will likely switch to 235/50/17 or 225/55/17 and put on some Michelins or Yokohamas.

Yesterday dealer replaced Goodyears with Bridgestones. Unlike coolpop36, I haven't noticed much defference between the two. It was nice to get brand new clean wheels (I had 600 miles on the car), car wash and a loaner though.
