They make it sound like they're short on stock and that they're flying out the doors so there's no way that they can go any lower. Oh well...
  • waybournwaybourn Member Posts: 5
Just bought fully (I mean "fully" loaded) 2008 blk/blk 2008 MDX.

    MSRP as configured: $47,900.
    Invoice: $42,900.
    Out the door price: $43,897.59

I bought the VIN number off the incoming vehicles sheet, as 2008s not arrived at Radley Acura in Bailey's Crossroads; push was on to sell 2007s, of course. Sales Mgr rejected the first deal that was $500 lower. Also got 10 percent off int/ext accessories installed. First time with this dealership, but loved the experience. Sales rep was the best I've ever had, she went to the mat with her manager based on my take-it-or-leave final offer and finally got approval from general manager.

Way to go waybourn. When you say loaded, what trim level and accessories did you have? Is this base, tech, sport? Is the out the door price with tax? Give us some of your great details.
  • dan12dan12 Member Posts: 114
Good for you. I would return the car too. Look at it this way, you got to test drive their car for a week for free.

Also...waybourn, what IS different about the '08? Is the only difference the auto dimming mirror? Anything else?
  • waybournwaybourn Member Posts: 5
It's the Tech/Entertainment packages plus the following installed accessories at 10 percent off lowest price I got from shopping other Acura dealerships in advance -- believe me, they are competitive.

Roof rails, Back up Sensors, Door Edge Guards, Engine Block Heater (later removed as not necessary for VA climate), Body Side Molding and Cargo Liner.

Price includes destination charge of $715, but no taxes (except on down payment), title or license. I also had printed out online coupon from the dealership's website worth an additional $250.

At my request, the finance manager ran about 10 different scenarios and I ended up with the preferred lease from AHF. It was a much better deal despite qualifying for 2.9 interest promotion from Acura and participating dealers that expires on 9/4/2007.

Right before I took the deal, I called another Acura dealership 75 miles away on my cell phone to see if they would bite -- he put me on hold for several minutes, then came back and said "Man, I can't even come close, much less match your deal. If there's no mistake, you should take it."

Note there are several Radley dealerships - this one is in Bailey's Crossroads, VA.

Honestly, I think they looked at it as an opportunity to avoid putting another vehicle on their lot and didn't have to add to their stock or inventory. As far as they were concerned, it was a VIN number on paper. They knew within a few minutes that I had done my homework (thanks to this forum) and was prepared to buy a 2008, so why let me walk out the door? A lot of credit is also due to the sales rep who pushed her bosses to get the deal done. This was my first experience with a female sales rep at a woman-owned dealership -- I will go back there when my other vehicle (Audi) comes off lease in late 2008.

They showed me a book that the dealership had just received that listed only two or three things that were different in each area (interior, exterior, etc.). If I recall, the mirror was one of them. I believe another one was a color that was dropped, but I didn't care as I was looking only at "Formal Black" (now called "Nighthawk").

Sorry not to be more specific, as I liked the 2007 model, and not having seen the 2008, I really didn't care or pay much attention to that area. I expect it will be hard to spot much difference between the 07's and the 08's.

I'll see if I can find out more tomorrow and post it.

Drive it back and forth to Disney World a few times, take it fishing, do some off-roading, and then return it. Oh yeah, and dont forget to write "Don't buy here" in the back window with shoe polish.

I'm in Austin and was looking for the exact same trim/colors at both Eagle and Sterling two weeks ago. Although I got better quotes then than your getting now (by a few hundred), I ended up buying in Arlington at Vandergriff Acura which had three Sports w/Grey/Taupe at the time.

After a couple of back and forths on the phone over two days, settled at $42,700. Price include their standard already installed accessories of bodyside moldings, wheel locks, tinted front rollups, cargo tray, and "theft guard" (VIN etched in windows). Figured that even without the theft guard and at Tim's prices for accessories plus tint (worth minimum $450-500) paid no more than a couple of hundred over invoice. Best deal I could find in Texas at the time.

Vehicle tax in TX is 6.2% Did end up paying $50 doc fee and a $100 dealer inventory tax (that I was lead to believe was a required county tax and should have refused), but all in all was happy with the deal.

At last check they still had the other two left.

    Good luck!

Thanks for all of your help about buying an '08. You're the first person I've heard of who bought one. If you find out more about any changes, I'd be glad to hear about them. I'm deciding whether to buy an '07 or wait for an '08. Great job negotiating! :D

I bought my 2007 MDX with Technology Package for $40,250 in March (ex tax and doc fee) which is $147 above invoice. Invoice is always what you want to work from, not retail.

First, I prefer negotiating via email. When you see a salesperson in person there is more pressure. What I typically do is negotiate with 2 dealers, then when I get the lowest price, I tell the competing dealer what that price was and they always beat it. In my case, the dealer asked me to prove that I got the price and I just forwarded them the email with the quote and they beat it by $100. Then I go to the dealer and sign the deal. My first and only visits are to sign the paperwork and pick up the car.

I also purchase certain accessories elsewhere. In my case, I bought OEM floor mats on Ebay from a dealer who was selling them new at invoice. I do this because when you get a price as low as I did, the dealer always looks to try to make money elsewhere like through other dealer installed options or warranties which I want no part of. I told my salesperson that I didn't want the Business Manager to try to sell me anything when I sat with him to sign the documents. They complied.

I bought my Acura through Park Ave Acura in Maywood NJ if anyone is interested. They would rather do a deal for little profit than no profit. Now that the 2008's are out, they would do a similar deal.

Could you provide your email contact at Park Ave Acura? It's not the closest dealer, but it's within 30 miles. Thanks

Here's what the Acura book on 2008 says:

    "What's new for 2008:

    Interior

Bluetooth Handsfree Link standard on all vehicles.

    Automatic dimming rearview mirror

Driver's seat memory settings position standard on all settings.

Acura personalized settings standard on all models.

Multi-Information Display (MID) standard on all models.

    New Color

    Polished Metal Metallic

Carbon Grey Pearl is no longer available."

    That's it...nothing about design changes.

  • sekhargsekharg Member Posts: 4
    Base tech and entertainment
    MSRP: $46,365
    Dealer Invoice: 42,095
Edmunds TMV: 42,699 (with destination fees)
    Outdoor Price: 45,880 + 1600 = 47,480
(including tax, title and legal docs) + options
options included with labor charges: 1600
(side mouldings, running boards, roof rails and cross bars)

I live in Norcross, GA. I tried this from Acura carland. Can Any one help me to justify myself that, am i not agreed more on it? I still have to accept the car purchase, as the car is not yet the dealer place and they are going to bring it on Tuesday. If I feel am paying more on it, can I cancel this deal? I have paid $ 500.00 as advance. What will happen in case of I get back out of this offer.

    Thanks for your kind suggestions.

After combing through this forum, I finally bought my MDX with Tech package from Hopkins Acura, Fairfield for $39,325 + TTL. I negotiated the price via e-mail and over the phone, and went to the dealership to buy the car. There was no pressure to buy any accessories/extended warranty. Sales manager and general manager were very nice people to deal with.

Overall, it was a very good buying experience and worth a drive from South Bay.

Saw 3 new 2008 MDXs on the lot today. In addition to the minor changes posted earlier, there are also new MPG numbers for the MDX: 15 and 20. This is a drop of 2 MPG from 2007. I can't see this helping the Acura sales guys as a bunch of "number crunchers" doing comparo's of SUVs on edmunds will now see MPG as a distinct disadvantage for the MDX.

Secondly, if you are considering a 2007 vs. 2008, you best be looking for at least a $2000 price difference. If not, go with the 2008 as you will get your return on your money when you re-sale. This can be evidenced when you look at a 2001 vs. 2002 MDX on Kelly's Blue Book using same mileage/condition.
  • smaayehsmaayeh Member Posts: 5
The lower MPG is due to the new EPA ratings. This will affect cars across the board. See Edmund's Article:

Explained: 2008 EPA Fuel Economy Ratings
Lower gas mileage numbers don't mean thirstier cars

    Hi Dekathari,

Please look at my msg in 5314. What do you suggest for my case? Can I cancel that deal and go for a new deal with this dealer or with any other one? Thanks for your advice in advance.

You may be right -- I looked at the page she faxed me again and it says "RDX" on the tab. Since it's a fax, I can't flip the page. She's out for the holiday, so I can't confirm the information. I did buy a MDX however.

Dekathari: Pls forward me your contact at Hopkins Acura in Fairfield. I live in the Southbay and am looking for a MDX w/ Sports + Entertainment pkg. The lowest price I received from Stevenscreek is $44,500 + TTL. I'm trying to see if I could get a better deal today as 2.9% finance rate expires tomorrow. Thanks!

I just emailed a handful of Acura dealers in Massachusetts for price quotes on an MDX with Tech Package. The dealer in Peabody replied and said he won't give pricing over email and said they won't have any 2008's for a while so focus on the 2007's. First, why won't he share prices over email if I'm a serious buyer (I am)? Second, are the 2008's really not available yet or is he just trying to get rid of the 2007's? Thanks.

Sekhar - I'm also located in the Atlanta area...check with Nalley Acura in Marietta to see if you can get a better deal. Karl Dunkelberger is their internet manager and when we were looking at Acura's he was great to deal with.

We went to the Acura of Libertyville, ILLINOIS on September 1st, after several conversations over the phone and a test drive. The final price negotiated for the MDX 07 model was inclusive(including internet fee, TTL, Document Fee, Destination).

However, after we turned down the excess items the dealer was trying to offer us, they decided to take advantage of our sincerity towards the deal: offering excuses such as the responsible manager had left, requested that we paid a $1000 deposit to hold the car for the weekend, and promised that they would call us at 10:30 am Monday morning to sign the final paper.

We went home very happy, believing that we already had the car bought.

When Monday came, we received a couple of other dealers' calls in the morning. We naturally turned them down, believing we were already charged deposits for the new Acura MDX from Libertyville.

However, 10:30 came and go....11:30 came and go, 12:30 came and go. Only after repeated phone calls to the dealership, we had the chance to go "pick-up" our 07 MDX. When we get to the dealership, it became clear to us that the dealership was never sincere when dealing the vehicle to us. They found excuse after excuse about why they need to charge us more, even though we had agreed barely one and half day earlier, and charged me $1000 deposit.

Even after I told them that this is a terrible customer service practice, they continued to hassle me with additional conditions, taking advantage that I came to the dealership alone to pick up the SUV without my husband.

Finally, I had to leave the dealership without the SUV that we had spent almost a week to testing and buying last Saturday.

Lofton, I could not get any Washington dealers to give me a price over email. One Oregon dealer did, but it was not a good price. Most dealers will take the lead over email, then call to talk about price (from my experience only). Secondly, it's my understanding from the dealers & from this forum that the 08's are on order, but have not hit the ground at any US dealerships. Hope this helps.

On Friday, I bought an '07 MDX Sport/Ent in Seattle for 44,538. Here's how the deal came together... I couldn't get a Washington State dealer to give me a price lower than $46,500. I shopped Oregon, & had the same experience. At the suggestion of others on this forum, I got a deal from Planet Acura in Downey, CA for $42,899, but they had options on the color I wanted valued at $689(I negotiated down to this, & it was reasonable price for the options.) Total price from Planet with accessories was $43,588. I also would have had airfare, gas, & hotel to bring the car home (about $650). I called Acura of Seattle, and with the offer from Planet in hand, the Seattle dealer came very close to Planet Acura's price. I don't think I would have gotten the Washinton dealers to budge if I weren't serious about buying in California. I called on the last day of the month, & was ready to buy that day. Acura of Seattle was great in the end, and I would be happy to share the name of the person I worked with. I am SO happy with my new MDX. I thought I would miss my old MDX, but I don't. The new one is fantastic. State sales tax here is 9.2%, so I won't even bother to share the out-the-door price! (Thankfully we don't have state income tax.)

I got the tech/ent for 41700 including delivery.
    Wheel locks included.

Best deal was originally from fairfield acura, oakland was good as well.
But last minute , dealership in burlingame offered the lowest.

I was almost out the door driving to the others when dealership in burlingame called.
It is much closer for me and it was the lowest price.

I used the quote system from edmunds, I got response within a day.
Most are selling at invoice + destination charge, if you push.

I worked with Gary Albrecht & Tareq Samaha in Hopkins Acura. They had quiet a few Sports with Entertainment package couple of days back.
  • curiousmdxcuriousmdx Member Posts: 15
Congratulations! Did the $41,700 include destination charges? Looks like you got about $400 below invoice. The Fairfield guys are really nice. I stuck to them even though one dealer from the south bay (who didn't contact me for 5 days) at the last minute asked me if he could offer a better price. I turned it down and instead went with Hopkins Acura of Fairfied. One other reason I went with them was they were the only ones that had Aberdeen Green.

What color did you get? Enjoy!

I am sorry to hear about your experience. You should call Acura and tell them about your experience to Acura. I located the following numbers from their website. 1.800.382.2238.

It is high time Acura realized that if they have compete with the likes of Porsche and BMW (which Edmunds says MDX does well against), they better start controlling the rogue dealers and rogue salesmen. Lexus salespeople are more courteous. BMS, Audi and Porsche sales folks always treat you with respect. This is not a $20,000 car for God's sakes. These dealers have the Honda mentality of selling cars.

In the end, I went and bought my MDX at the place that was courteous and deserved to have my money. I think all of us should only buy from dealers that treat us well and then the rogue ones will fall in line. This is how consumers like us influence the market place. It is not just about money.
  • nocalbruinnocalbruin Member Posts: 2
We got the Desert Rock color.
It did include the 670 dest charge.

I felt a bit bad about fairfield, but it was an additional 1.2 hour drive.
I really liked the fairfield folks as well.

I was in market for a Certified MDX and Peabody had one I was interested in but highly overpriced. I live about 2 hours away from Boston, so emailed/called and they wouldn't discuss the price over the phone. Also, the salesman was pretty pissed when I asked him why he had priced the car higher than the rest of the market. In the end, I was able to get a much better car (in terms of miles and trim) from Herb Connolly in Framingham. Peabody still has the car in the lot (it's been over a month) and now has started lowering the price but is still way high.

I would suggest trying Herb Connolly and SunnySide in Nashua,NH.
  • loftonlofton Member Posts: 3
I would love to buy from Peabody since it's the closest dealer to my house but they aren't starting off on the right foot. Two other dealers immediately replied with price quotes.

I'm surprised you had a poor experience with the Boston dealer. Everything I have read here praises them. Framingham definitely gets the most positive feedback though. I'm not surprised they worked out the best for you.

I would also like to know whether they were willing to close with you directly or if they tried the floor manager hustle, as they have in the past.

I'll be buying an Acura MDX by end of year in Memphis. Stopped by Acura of Memphis and got the runaround (salesman, sales mgr, general mgr), only to be offered $1000 off sticker. Anyone have any better luck? May go to Jackson, MS where I bought my '04.

Shaig and Beanzai, We're not supposed to post individual names in this forum, but if you'll post your email address, I will send along the name of the person I worked with & give you all details. I only negotiated with Acura of Seattle for about 1-2 hours, and I had a deal over the phone.

There's a reason why we didn't buy our second MDX at Libertyville. We took our business to Pauly in Highland Park and had a night and day experience.

With the 2003, Libertyville proved easy because every dealership was charging MSRP and they happened to have the right color combo.

Flash forward to last year with our 2006 and the run-around I got from Libertyville was obnoxious. I guess they assumed in their dealer quote that I didn't know about the dealer incentives Honda was giving the Acura dealers to move out the 2006 models. When I called them on their false price quote, all of a sudden "they knew exactly what I was talking about" and matched my quotes from Muller and Pauly. Sorry, too late.

If you're still in the market and haven't let Libertyville tarnish your Acura perception, head over to Pauly.

Honestly I cant say I had a bad experience with Peabody - just that there was no luck over the phone/email. The internet salesman claimed they had priced the car to sell, but I was able to get a much better car at a much better price from Framingham. Talking about priced to sell - the car I was interested in at Peabody is still on the lot and has been there for two months. The one I bought from Framingham was priced so well, it was sold within 2 days of coming on the lot. We knew & the salesman also knew that somebody would buy it, if not us, the day we bought it.

In the end though, I feel good that Peabody did not price it well, as I ended up with a much better vehicle - 10K less miles than the one they have and a much better price.
