Now I am going to admit to be a "newbie" when it comes to buying a new car but I am surprised by the dealers that I have spoken with. I did an internet quote search via Edmunds. The first dealership to respond came back with a price of $39,000 for an EX 2WD! I balked at that and they lowered it to $27,546! All in a matter of 5 minutes via email. This person also said there were no dealer incentives being offered in my area. This morning I spoke on the phone with another dealer who was phoning with their information and he said that 2WD are very hard to come by (which I didn't know and am not sure I believe) but he did say that I was correct about the dealer incentive although he didn't say exactly what it was. His quote on the EX 2WD was $27,145. I ultimately would prefer the leather but not unless I got a screaming deal on it. Hmm, I wish I knew what the future would bring....is it smarter to wait for the 2007's to arrive, will this bring any better deals?

I just purchased a 2006 Pilot EX-L with Navigation 2WD from Peters Honda in Nashua. The sales staff were great and I had talked to 3 other dealers in Masshacusetts and they did not offer the same prices or honesty that Peters did. I paid 27,000. It was a floor model with no miles but I think it had been in their inventory for awhile and they were anxious to move it. Their prices for other models were lower than other dealers. I debated about the Navigation System but after 24 hours I am hooked. I got stuck in a huge traffic jam in Boston and I was able to get off the highway and figure out a way to my destination using lots of side streets that I never would have attempted on my own. The transaction went very smoothly and the interest rate for purchase was very competitive(5.99%). If you are from northern Massachusetts near the NH border or a NH resident I would strongly recommned Peters Honda in Nashua.

I have been quoted 26031 + destination(550)+ Tax (6%) and Doc fee (298) for a 2006 Honda Pilot EX with Leather and 4 wheel drive. Is this a good price or the recent incentives that I am hearing about has pushed the price lower than this? Please help me make a discussion as today is the last day for this price according to the dealership.

What is the APR that Honda Finance is offering now for someone with excellent credit score? I know there are no promotions going on but how much can I get financing for?
  • jenkinsismejenkinsisme Member Posts: 30
The rates are different in all parts of the country. It is a regional rate at particular times of the month and/or year.
  • mjjpowermjjpower Member Posts: 12
Where are you located at? I am on the West Coast and that would be a deal I would snap up in a heartbeat! I am new to this though....so I could be wrong. We are being quoted $27,300 for a EX 2WD....no leather or 4WD. I have basically the same quote from at least 4 dealerships. I am not impressed! :(
  • buypilotbuypilot Member Posts: 8
I am in New Jersey. I think it is a good deal too but only concerned that this is due to the reason that they want to phase out 2006 model. If there is 2007 model a month later than when I buy, i would be pretty pissed off. When do they usually release the next year models?
  • mjjpowermjjpower Member Posts: 12
I was told that the 2007's would be arriving in September/October. Did you do a lot of negotiating to get that price? I would love a deal like that! As it is, I am being told that 2WD's are really hard to come by and that most of them go to the CA market...I don't need 4WD in my neck of the woods.

I’m kind of waffling on the Pilot and over buying or leasing. I was pretty jazzed, decided to get one mid-end of summer, but I drove one Thursday in Kirkland WA and the steering felt kind of twitchy,,, real front wheel drive-ish, not at all like the impression I’d had before,,, it’s most probably something I’d become accustomed to, I do know I probably should get rid of my chevy trailblazer before something else goes wrong,,, I had a 900 repair at 60,000 miles,, now at 66k, the registration is due and within 5k miles I’ll need tires and who knows what else.

As to buy / lease, certainly the payments are lower [10-20%] and by 3 or 4 years I always want a new car,,,, I think it may work better for the lease, except I’m told Honda does not lease to businesses,,, which sounds like a line from a salesman wanting a simple sale[?] aw heck, I guess I’m staying home and doing laundry today.

I stopped in at Toyota and nothing they had interested me, of course the salesman was quick to insult the pilot and slow to provide any service,, maybe I should just get it and be done with it.
  • alanrosenbergalanrosenberg Member Posts: 28
I'm leary of what salesmen say, especially if it would queer their deal,, but I'm told the 07 will have 'no' changes and be out in sept or oct,,, for whatever good that's worth!

I just bought a 2006 Honda Pilot EX 4WD Cloth Interior for $25,113 plus fees from Earnhardt Honda in Phoenix (Avondale) Arizona. The total OTD price was $29,875 but that included the Trailer Towing Package ($1049), Crossbars for the roof ($214) and Tinted Windows ($299), Tax, License and Doc fees.

Using Edmunds dealer quote email service, I received 5 responses immediately. The top three quotes were(base prices)Earnhardt Honda ($25,113); Honda Cars of Mesa ($26,163); and Tempe Honda (26,274). All the dealers I spoke to, said that in Phoenix there was a $2000 incentive until 7/5.

The Pilot I purchased only had 25 miles on it and the entire deal took less than two hours at the dealership. However, I did not have a trade and I arranged financing beforehand.

Hope this information helps someone else, the information on this forum certainly helped me.
  • jacpotjacpot Member Posts: 5
99accord, was the $25,113 price your initial quote from Earnhardt Honda or did you have to negotiate for that price? Also did you negotiate on the added accessories? I'm look to buy in the next week or so and Earnhardt is the closest dealer by me. Thanks.
  • 99accord99accord Member Posts: 6
jacpot, $25,113 was their initial quote and they were the lowest among all the dealers I emailed and since it was $3100 back of invoice I did not negotiate further.

As far as accessories, their prices were in the middle range compared to what the other dealers quoted so I accepted them as is. Also, Earnhardt's out the door price was $1100 lower than my second best quote(Honda Cars of Mesa).

They did provide me list with prices of what they charge for all the available accessories installed.

I took the wife to look at an 06 2WD EX-L with Navigation in Green. They quoted me an original proice of $36,000 and change on the vehicle and offered me $9000 for my 2000 Navigator which is worth $11500 trade in Value on Kelly Blue Book.

We told them we would give them $27,629 for the car. They had a package they added already that included a lojack for $700, Tinted windows for $140 and Paint and Fabric for $299. That is $1659 and i told them I would give them half of that which is $830 plus all of the tax and other bs charges.

They said that we weren't allowing them to make any money and that the best they could offer was $30,464 for the vehicle plus $299 for paint and Fabric protection, and $9000 for my trade which is not even in the ball park. Basically we are $3000 different in price then what I want to spend. How far off am I compared to others that have been shopping around? I told them I knew the incentive was $2000 until 7/5 and they had a $1038 holdback. He told me the incentive was only $1500 and he didn't know anything about the holdback.

Do you mind saying the dealers you shopped in NJ?
  • alanrosenbergalanrosenberg Member Posts: 28
Although I live in Washington, I spent quite a bit of time in California, so I’ve thought of buying down in so cal, at a high volume dealer, somehow I was directed to Norm Reaves [internet search I think]

It seems like the prices I’m seeing are about $2,000 less for a AWD Leather W / Nav. Of course I’ll have to put about a thousand miles on the thing to do this, but if this is really the case, anyone see a downside? I actually keep an address in CA and my insurance and license are still CA based, so that is not a problem.

Is it possible that the big CA dealers do so much volume that they can be that much better or do people think I can hammer the WA dealers to come close?

Did anyone purchase a pilot in New York City recently?
Do you mind telling me how much you paid for it?

I paid $30,395 incl. destination plus tax and title for EXL-Navi 4 WD on 5-30-06. Dealer had $2000 factory incentive in May. It was at Honda of New Rochelle.

I got a quote from a south bay Honda dealer for Pilot EX-L 2WD at $25,988. Comments? Anyone knows any special financing going on with Honda at the moment?
  • rishipriship Member Posts: 65
People are posting that the initial offer is $3000 below invoice. In Houston which is normally quite competitive, the best I have gotten so far is 1700 below. Giving 3000 below is just completely giving the car away. Are other areas of the country really that desperate.
  • rishipriship Member Posts: 65
That price is ridiculously low. If its legit, I'd snap it up in the next five seconds.
  • gocanes719gocanes719 Member Posts: 10
I have gotten a quote of $29,990 so far on a 2WD EX-L with Navigation. The other bids are all around $30,500. These are all here in Houston.
  • ronen1ronen1 Member Posts: 4
That is a sick deal, take it, I have only found it for 29700, in NY, can't get it below 29000, I am still looking.

Thanks to all those who responded to my posts quickly on Saturday about a quote I had received on a Pilot EX - L AWD. I had been shopping around since Dec 2005 / Jan 2006 but finally I made up my mind.

I am a proud owner of a 2006 Honda Pilot EX with Leather and All Wheel Drive. I had shopped around getting quotes from the following 6 dealerships:

    1) Route 22 Honda - Hillside - NJ
    2) Garden State Honda - Clifton - NJ
    3) Hudson Honda - West New York - NJ
    4) Mahwah Honda - Mahwah - NJ
    5) DCH Honda - Paramus - NJ
    6) Open Road Honda - Edison - NJ

Finally ended up buying from Open Road Honda. Here are the pricing details:

Base Price: 26,031 (got 27,031 from an internet quote and it was further slashed by 1000 the following day)
    Document Fee: 298
Registration Fee: 342 (bit high but no worries for 4 yrs as it is NJ state law to get the new vehicle registered for 4 yrs)
    Destination: 550
    NJ Sales Tax of 6%.

Grand Total was 28,823. Cannot believe it myself as I had received the base price quote higher than this from other dealers.

The experience at Open Road Honda dealership was very good except for minor arguments due to the APR they were quoting on the financing. I did make a fuss but not much since I am going to refinance or pay it off soon. I got the Auto Day / Night Rear View Mirror and Wheel Locks as freebies.

    Thanks again to all!

That dealer could make alot of money if that deal is legit. Please let us know the dealer name, as I am in NJ also. My lease on a saab ends Sept 2006. Should I wait for 2007 Pilot or are deals good right now?
  • rishipriship Member Posts: 65
I'm noticing that prices have come down. There are now many post at 3000 below invoice. I also noticed that cars direct dropped by about a 1000. I'm guessing that it must be 2500 or 3000. I just posted that I was only getting 1700 below, but just got a quote at 2750 below.
  • pilotopiloto Member Posts: 9
That's a great deal you got.. I was thinking of getting a certified pilot but after seeing your post I am now considering buying a new 2006 EXL AWD. The quote I got from Open Road was also 27,031 which is already lower than most prices I have seen here. I live a few miles from them so I will definitely check them out. Thanks!

I was initially quoted a number of 35,795 ( plus taxes, and the fee ), for the 06 EXL with NAV. After going through this forum, i got a good idea of what is being offered at the different dealers in the north-west indiana and southern michigan area. After going back and forth, i finally got the price down to the following.

    30,836 base price
    1,850 sales tax. 6%
    99 documentation fee.

we will be buying this in the next few days. keep you all updated. I would have to personally thank, all, who have posted on this forum. This discussion is definetely helping customers like us!!

    mrm.

My lease ends on Sept 6 but I know a dealer would take it early. Are the deals on Pilots to good to pass on right now or should I wait until the turn-in date and see about 2007 v. 2006? The deal in NJ seems to good to pass up.
  • gocanes719gocanes719 Member Posts: 10
who is the quote from. The lowest I can get on a 2wd EX-L with Navi is $29,688. I am in Houston.
  • sooner_chotsooner_chot Member Posts: 28
I got $29788 here in Dallas.
  • buypilotbuypilot Member Posts: 8
Yes, I had also got 27,031 to start with and they reduced further by 1000 making it 26,031. The out of the door price I paid was less than the quote I had received on the same model in Jan 2006. I am not sure if any other dealership in NJ is going to follow the same route since the rest of the quotes I received were no where close to 26,031. The closest I got was 28,825.
  • mcdermott2mcdermott2 Member Posts: 68
Does anyone know what the lease would be on this price. Let me say I want to have total out of pocket $1500. Thanks
  • mlo2mlo2 Member Posts: 8
    Thanks alot
  • rishipriship Member Posts: 65
I bought today at Russell smith for 26,247. I asked him about NAV. He said problem is that he doesn't have any and he can't get any. I have a pretty good relationship with the salesguy so I could get you the same deal, which is below what they are quoting by email. NAV is rare in houston at least, so it often cost much more. It looks like its costing you 3500 more here.
  • rishipriship Member Posts: 65
I used to work at a dealer and was talking with the salesguy today. Essentially there is a ladder depingding on the percentage of a the sales goal that is met. If a dealer sells 110% percent of the goal the incentive is 3000. It can be as low as 1500. This was confirmed by three dealers that I spoke with today.
  • gocanes719gocanes719 Member Posts: 10
I got a quote From Russel and Smith tonight for $28,358 for a 2WD EX-L ith Navigation. The problem is I have no idea what color it is and the wife wants green . Of course, alot of iss dependent on the trade of our Navigator as well.
  • rishipriship Member Posts: 65
You want a car with nav. You want the rarest color in houston. You want top dollar for your trade and a rock bottom price. You are asking for quite a lot, but maybe it can all happen. Personally I'd compromise on something, but thats jsut me. Russell gave you a quote 1300 under your next best, so I'd definitely call them. I had a very positive experience with them today. If you are dealing with Nang and I am the reason you contacted him, I'd appreciate it if you let him know that Rishi told you to contact him. He'll take care of me if you do buy.

have you even found an amazon with nav. I'd bet it doesn't exist in HOU but I could be wrong. Tell Russell Smith exactly what you want, and they will do a locate. They should be able to tell you if and when they can get the color you want. Quite honestly if you are trading the price doesn't matter much. They could sell you the car for 20K but if they give you 1K for your car what good is it. You just have to go to the dealer and see what they will give you. I'd suggest going to carmax, and letting them appraise your car. This will give you an option to sell, although you will lose tax savings. You can get a dealer to try and match it. If no dealer or carmax gives you what you want, then you may have to sell it on your own or maybe its not worth what you think.

Consider this. Edmunds has private party value of an 05 EXL at 26.5K, trade in at 24.8K and dealer retail at 29.6K. I just bought an 06 new for 26,247. Do you really think a dealer would be wise to give 24.8 for an 05. Perhaps Edmunds is just wrong. They are certainly wrong on the TMV of the 2006 pilot. You also want to trade in a v8. The reason pilots are so cheap is gas prices. A navigator does not help. All I am saying is ask yourself if you are being realistic regarding your trade.
  • sooner_chotsooner_chot Member Posts: 28
When negotiating on the internet, do you agree on the price first, then select from their inventory; or do you check to see if they have the color you want in stock then negotiate on the price? I am looking for a White 2WD EXL w/ Nav, and I don't think any of the DFW dealers have one.

Some have told me that they don't have what I am looking for in stock, but can get one. So do I negotiate price then tell them to get one in white or vice versa?

:D Just purchased out Pilot EX-no leather, from Reliance Honda in Lake Jackson, TX. They were the best in customer service and prices in my experience in the Houston Area.
I recommend them fully. Price includes running boards. Many thanks to this Forum for all the advice and research, it certainly made our Pilot buying experince a great one! :D, sorry I provided my email on a previous post, didn't know the rules!
  • elboelbo Member Posts: 2
...$2,200 below invoice on EX-L. Is this about right?

    Thanks!
  • michi38michi38 Member Posts: 3
First I want to say thank you all for the valuable resource you've provided to fellow Pilot lovers.

I was offered $28,000 OTD for a 2006 EX-L AWD, including mud guards, floor mats, wheel locks, and plastic strip door guards.

Do you think this is a fabulous deal? Or should I wait it out another month, as they get more anxious about unloading the '06 models?

    Thanks!!!!!
  • gocanes719gocanes719 Member Posts: 10
There is a Green one at Goodson and at Gillman. You are not the reason I contacted him as I don't know who you are. I resent the comment that I am asking alot. I have a dam nice Navigator I a willing to trade at $1500 under trade in value. Most people wouldn't do that. They can easily ask $15,000 for it on the lot.

I have already had it appraised at that figure. Three Appraisals so far all between $9500 and $10K
  • sanjuansanjuan Member Posts: 4
which area are you in? It seems a good deal to me.
  • michi38michi38 Member Posts: 3
I'm in the Washington, D.C. metro area. They're offering the EX-L 2WD for $1,000 less, but they don't have the color I want in stock (Amazon Green). Go figure...I didn't think that color was very popular [*edit], here at least.
  • rishipriship Member Posts: 65
I'm not saying that you are asking too much. I don't even know what you want. All I am saying is that if nobody is giving you what you want, then obviously there is a problem.

You have three apraisals at 9500 to 10K. Is that enough? If so then what is the problem. Is it that they won't sell at a price that Russell Smith offered. If that is the case then let Russell Smith appraise it. If 10K is not enough, then I'd say the fact that three different dealers have given you that number, suggest to me that dealers will not be giving more.

Which goodson did you go to. I know that Goodson west is willing to deal. In fact they even beat Russell's original number. But they didn't have a color that I wanted. I had to get Russell to match them. If Goodson west has the car you want, I know you can get a very good deal.
  • gocanes719gocanes719 Member Posts: 10
I went to the Goodson here o I-46 near 1960. $30,495 was their best.

I can't get anyone at Russel and Smith to call me back regarding yesterday's quote.

    Thanks for the help.

I am willing to drive down to Edison to give them the business but do you happen to remember the salesperson you dealt with?
