jjf, thanks for the feedback...like your style! By chance do you own a personal dvd copy of Glen Gary Glen Ross? "2nd place...Steak Knives, 3rd place...your fired!" LOL j/k

One more serious Q...should I be asking for bottom line price Less TTL or? (maybe I should read the other referenced posts first...I'll do that.)

    Amoviefan1,

I think you got a pretty good deal there.

Apologies for the late reply; I spent 3 hours at 2 dealers last night. One had a good price (approx $29,500+), but wanted to rip me off for the trade-in. The other had a seemingly good price and decent trade-in value. When I wanted to close the deal, he started adding stuff to the OTD price.

I guess his definition of OUT-THE-DOOR is different from our definition of OTD. He wanted to add wheel locks, rear splash guards and other stuff that they had added to the vehicle (some of which I may actually want).

I suspect that they put it on all vehicles and make it a "option" that is mandatory. The kicker here is that they were charging a super duper ridiculous price for those options. Make sure you ask this form the dealer that promised you the $27,521 price that his OTD is truly what you and I would expect in terms of OTD pricing.

With regards to a lower price, the short answer is "I don't know" cos I have only been asking for Pilots with Navigation. However, the option is supposed to be between $1,800 to $2,200. This means that the price you have is pretty good given the quotes I have gotten for the Pilots with Nav on them.

On an unrelated note, CNN reported that we may soon see $4 per gallon gas prices. I think I will wait till end of May to get my Pilot. My gut tells me the incentives will be better. Then again, I could be completely wrong and in deep doo doo with wifey who wants the Pilot now...

Hi pilotologist - I've got a deal in Va. for $29,963.73 (took the $2,000 cash back incentive) for a 2007 Pilot EX-L 2WD with Navigation. This is an OTD price (freight, tax, title, processing, tag). Still trying to make sure this deal is legit, though.

I am looking for the same car, 07 EX-L AWD, no navi, no res. I've emailed about 15 dealers and the best quote that I received was $27,822. Now by reading this forum I know that I can do better but the problem that I am running into is that when I ask a dealer if they can beat that price they say "yes, just bring in your quote and we guarantee to beat it"...
How can I get them to give me their "best" quote before actually going all the way over there and wasting my time???
  • lad578lad578 Member Posts: 10
I haven't been able to get that good of a quote, but if you already have that I am sure we can go a little lower. I noticed however, that you're looking for an EX 4WD, I am looking for EX-L 4WD but don't think that'll be an issue. Here is my email lad 578 at hotmail dot com (hope you can discern from that).

    Thanks

I need help! I am every dealerships dream customer -- I have no clue what I'm doing!
I want to lease a Pilot 2WD EX-L with Navi before the end of the month. Can someone tell me what's the best lease deal I can expect to pay, and which dealership in SoCal? (I'm in North San Diego County).

Honda's website has a $289/month, $1,999 at signing for 36 months on an LX -- but I really want the 2WD EX-L with Navi.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Been in the market for several weeks now for 07 Pilot 4X4 EX-L with DVD/RES. Picking up tomorrow from Kadlec Honda in Rochester MN. Great folks. Quote as follows...

    $28,869.00 Sale Price (MSRP $35,440)
$1,876.49 MN State Sales Tax 6.5%
    $451.00 License Plates/Tabs
    $90.00 Various Doc Fees
    $4.25 Registration Tax
    $10.00 Title Transfer

Right around 31,300 OTD. Pretty happy with it overall. Most quotes in MN/WI were in the 32,200 range for an OTD price (29,700 for the vehicle).

Does anybody know what will be the may dealer incentives ? I wonder if they are going to be more than $2000 as the 2008 Model may be coming out soon ?
  • gmanusmcgmanusmc Member Posts: 699
Sandie - if you like, email me @ bgaerttner@cox.net and I can provide you some good info. My wife and I just leased an EXL 2wd with RES and got a great deal (OC dealerships).

    Hi mnhonda,
Thank for sharing the info. Does this price include $2000 cash rebate or 0.9% financing?

I started looking at this site towards the end of March to get an idea of what people were paying. I then got half dozen quotes from various internet dealers in my area which gave us an idea of which dealers were being competitive. Last week we took our best quote and started calling dealers but we expanded our search from 1/2 hour vicinity to 1 hour's drive. What we found was that even though dealers do not want to quote prices over the phone you will have the ones that will beat the quote that your working with if they are trying to move their inventory.

I believe that you can do better than the best quote that you received of $27,822 especially since the month ends after this weekend. I can tell you that is a pain in the butt but if it's worth saving a few bucks WHY NOT....

    Good Luck!

wanted your opinions on this article, is he talking about auto sales of all the manufacturers.

if this is true, then better prices are out there for us until the 08's arrive, also combine with projected $4 gas where i live and i'm assuming better pilot deals are out there

Amoviefan1 and folks shopping in Chicago,

Was quoted a really good deal by Continental Honda and asked to visit them to work out the details.

When I saw them last night, they quoted me $2,000 for my trade-in. Although my vehicle is not in pristine condition, the retail price is ~$10K with a KBB trade-in value of $5,200 for a vehicle rated as "fair condition".

Wow... Although I know the dealers are trying to make a profit, I did not expect this. It was actually quite funny when the salesperson explained that he would call wholesalers to try to get a better price for the trade-in for me. What a load of BS!

Thanks for all the help ChicagoGTR!

My latest lowest quote is $27,213 with the $2000 rebate applied plus tax, title and license. This does not qualify for the special 0.9 to 3.9%. I got this with A LOT of hard negotiating through the internet and phone the past 2 days. I'm very happy with it. The question is: what happens when I go in tomorrow and try to get what I want on the trade-in?

Buying a new car without a trade-in is much easier than getting a great deal on both the new vehicle AND the trade in. Whew!

Please wish me luck. Thanks and good luck to all of you.

got a call from a couple of dealers saying $2K or financing incentives to end in April. they say that Honda has contacted their GM and said it won't be extended in May.

I'm betting that this will continue or better incentives to appear in May. Easy bet to make since my financing will go through in May anyways, anyone out there hear different???

reasons why i think it will continue: dealers have good stock (dealer admitted so), high gas prices in Ca, and New model year coming in 08......

by the way seanloh, how was the pilot inventory at Larry Hopkins?? thanks

    Hi folks,
I got a call from a dealer today (in response to my solicitation for quotes) who acted like she new nothing about the $2K rebate. Sure enough, when I got to a computer I checked both Honda's site and Edmunds.com and the low financing rates are listed but not the $2K price reduction offer!!! What's up - I thought it was supposed to last through April 30th?
  • chicagogtrchicagogtr Member Posts: 12
    Folks in Chicago,

Got my Pilot today. Alas... With the tons of research and pricing shopping I did, my wife decided that she did not want the EX-L AWD with the Navigation system. Guess the current Garmin unit will have to do. *SIGH*

It was $27,400 with the cash discount ($2,000 extra using the 0.9% Honda financing). There wasn't anything extra added to it apart from the minor fees.

The dealer was "Honda on Grand". Pretty good experience dealing with the Internet manager. The 2 things that a person should be aware of are (a) do research on options you want and (b) make sure you know what the market price is for the extended warranty.

They tried to charge $2,100 for the 8yr/120,000 mile when another forum mentioned that the average price is $1,200. They also wanted to charge $100 for the wheel locks, so I guess they are trying to make commissions in other areas.

    Good luck happy hunting!

    ChicagoGTR

PS: Big thanks to everybody on this forum for all the advice. Car shopping is no longer a huge chore that I detest.

I can't believe this worked out as well as it did. I did as all of you suggested and sent out more than 20 requests for quotes. I played the lowest three off of each other and, in the end, the other two told me - "You need to take that deal."

We worked with Hendrick Honda in Woodbridge, Va. and they were great. Couldn't have been easier. Out the door price was $29,963 (took the $2k rebate). Love my new Pilot - the navigation system is amazing! Thanks to all for your help!

the best quote i've gotten for a 07 4wd EX pilot in the seattle area is 27500 + sales tax + licence and documentation fee. that turns out to be 30242 OTD. This is only based on internet quotes from 4 different dealers. based on the posts from the last few days, it seems like ppl has been getting much better quotes than what i have gotten. Is the difference in quotes b/c of the seattle region in general or something else? btw, the above quote is based on a cash sale.
  • lad578lad578 Member Posts: 10
Looks like Seattle area may have a different market from the rest of the country; everywhere else people are getting better deals than us here :) The best quote I got for EX-L 4WD is $28996. Some dealers told me that can beat that over the phone, but I want it in writing (still waiting for that). Don't want to walk into their turf and start discussing price. If you're interested in buying now we can join as group to see if we can get a better discount. I have another forum member interested.

Thanks for all of the great information I've picked up here. I'm looking for a 2007 EX-L 2wd w/no Navigation. The best price I've found so far is $27,343 plus $399 doc fee. This includes the protection package- splash guards, cargo tray, wheel locks. Any input on whether or not I've got the room to shave a little more off of this deal?
  • researchfreakresearchfreak Member Posts: 3
Was looking for a silver EX-L 2WD, no RES or Nav. Used fightingchance.com package. Faxed 15 dealers Wednesday around noon, 4/25/07. Most were in DFW area, others in Abilene, San Antonio, Midland/Odessa. Best deal? Vehicle price of $26,830, $28,750 OTD from Lute Riley in Richardson (Dallas). Was told by several dealers that this deal wasn't possible and that the dealer was taking “a triple loss” on the vehicle. Arrived at dealership Friday evening at 6:20 PM, drove it off the lot at 7:30 PM. Price included tinted windows and Pro Pack (cargo tray, mud guards, wheel locks). Amount of time from first fax to drive-off? 2 and 1/2 days. Favorite part (not counting the amount of money and aggravation I saved)? Driving into the dealer lot, NOT dealing with the horde of sales people standing at the front door, including the one for whom I was the “up”, and asking for the manager. I’m convinced - fightingchance.com is the absolute best way to buy a car. My thanks go to this forum for all the valuable information and advice.
  • darbyteedarbytee Member Posts: 5
Okay, I've played with the numbers on the EX-L 2wd some more and here's what I came up with:

    $2000.00: Manufacturer money from Honda
    +$867.61: Dealer holdback (profit)
    +$399.95: Doc fee (profit)
=$3267.56: Dealer profit if car is sold at invoice

    $29522: Dealer invoice
+$400: Dealer's cost of protection package (according to him)
    =$29922: Total dealer cost

$29,922- $3267 = $26,655 (the price at which the dealer neither makes nor loses any money on the deal)

This being said, what is a fair profit for the dealer? I don't expect him to lose money, but I also don't want to fund his whole retirement. I'm thinking $27,155 including the doc fee, leaving him a $500 profit is a fair number for answering a few emails. Any thoughts or corrections to my math??
  • uvakimuvakim Member Posts: 13
Vehicle price - $28,615 (includes freight)
Va and prince william county tax (3.12%) - $905.23
    Processing fee - $399
One year tag and title - $44.50
    Out the door - $29,963.73
  • uvakimuvakim Member Posts: 13

Thanks to all you wonderful people, I got my pilot today EX-L AWD RES from Hendrick Honda in Woodbridge, VA. Took the $2K rebate and paid $31,325 OTD with the appearance package and running boards installed. I am happy.... :). The dealership people were nice and straightforward. Overall a good experience.
They tried to sell me the rust proofing etc, but I denied and they didn't push it. Though, one salesman said that honda no longer covers rust or paint damage in their warranty if it's not inside to out ??? Any suggestions if it is important and what would be a decent price to be paid.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,137
No car warranty covers surface rust...

However, rust proofing is a generally worthless product. And, modern cars will rarely rust, unless the paint finish has been damaged. Just pass on these sort of extras..

If you've taken delivery of the vehicle, then a deal's a deal. Very few dealers will be willing to renegotiate once you've taken the car. There's no "3 day right to cancel" on a purchase money transaction. You'd have to depend on the goodwill of the dealer, and we all know that's not a good bet.

My feeling is, if you like the car, then accept the situation and move on. Enjoy your new Pilot and get on with life.
  • newcomer1newcomer1 Member Posts: 15
