I'm also looking for a TL w/ nav in the Boston/South of Boston area. I didn't know if you had any suggestions or tips that would be useful going in. It seems like a lot of people are getting good deals around this area lately so anything you have would help. Thanks.
No silver bullet, really. Just go in well-prepared: know your strategy, know your prices, what you want to pay, and be willing to walk away if you don't like the deal. Negotiate the purchase price of the car - not the monthly payment, or whether you have a trade-in, or even if you're buying or leasing. Start negotiating from below invoice - not down from MSRP. Mention the 3% holdback that will give the dealer a healthy profit even if they agree to sell you the car at invoice. Research your financing options before heading into the dealer as well. Good luck!
I was able to get $31,072 for the basic car, including destination (Edmunds TMV - $32,789). Royal Blue Pearl with Quartz Interior. I added All season mats, mud flaps, wheel locks, cargo tray, touch-up paint. With doc fees and first year "free" maintenance the cost came to exactly $32,000. Plus, they gave me $3,800 for my 1996 Accord with 128K miles in what I would call average overall condition (TMV for Trade-in $2700, private sales $3,800, local papers have advertised similar private sale vehicles for $3,500 to $4,000).
This is in Kansas City - overall about $1,850 less than I thought I would have pay based on my research of Acura prices in the area and current private sales prices of my vehicle.
Not as good as some quotes I am seeing in this forum, but pretty good for the region.
Cyclonemike, just started looking in KC, which dealer did you use? and what else do I need to know? did you use internet manager or sales rep off floor? color options? Never looked at TL before, but growing on me fast. was leaning towards Passat, but swinging towards the TL thanks
Jay Wolfe Acura - purchased through a sales rep off the floor. I was looking most closely at the Maxima SE and Accord EXV6 as well as the TL. I also drove the Passat, Camry, Civic, Altima, ES350, and 325i. I think they can get just about any color choice you might want. I take delivery today of a car that came in on the carrier yesterday. The BMW was my favorite, but when you go to the 325xi you are looking at $5,000-$6,000 more. The dealer knew I was getting prices from both the Nissan and the Honda dealer and that they would need to be aggressive to get my business. They knew that I would have been willing to buy any of the three cars, but the TL was my favorite. They have to know you are willing to walk.
Hi Kod33, What was your salesman's name? 3 of us work in the Boston area and each are looking to purchase on a TL. With 3 of us buying together we should get a pretty good deal. Just to confirm, you got the navi right?
You may include the dealership name, city and state in your post. Please do not post names of salespeople, telephone numbers, email addresses, or other contact information.
Depending on your area. Here in SoCal the lowest I've seen for
06 TL w/ Navi (5AT or 6MT) is for $31,660 (including destination charge) plus Tax, Title, License and Fees. I'm not sure if this come with the Protection Package (wheel locks, splash guards, all-weather mats-or substitue for truck tray).
See if they can drop it to $32,000 (including destination)+TTL and insist on getting the entire ProPack included not just the wheel locks and the rear lip spoiler accessory.
I bought mine in L.A. back in December 2005. I paid $32,290 (including destination) with Propack +TTL for an 06 TL 5AT w/ Navi. I could have waited a few months but I been waiting too long! Love my TL! :shades:
My final deal was 32,565 plus TTL. This price does include all dealer and processing fees and destination. I pay 3% sales tax and about $40 for the tags. My price includes all season floor mats, wheel locks and splash guards. I think this is pretty good based on what i have read here but maybe not quite as good as Southern Cal.
Just picked up a new TL w/nav from Santa Monica Acura.
I had originally planned to purchase from Power Acura in Torrance. I went to Power for a test drive, and the person who showed me the car happened to be the internet manager (according to his card). I told him I was not ready to buy on the spot, but that he could email me his best quote. After some back and forth, he came down to a competitive price; not the lowest, but not too much higher than my best email offer (from Santa Monica Acura). He also offered me good finance terms if I purchased by May 31. Since Power is the closest dealer to my home, they had shown me the car, and the price was competitive, I decided I would buy from them, and I made an appointment to come in and fill out the necessary paperwork.
When I get to Power, I confirm the price, and fill out the credit app. The internet manager takes the application in the back and then comes back to me and says something to the effect that my credit is Tier 1, but unfortunately the finance special he quoted me in email ended yesterday (even though it wasn't yet the end of May and when I spoke to him on the phone the previous day, he knew I was coming in the following day), and the best he can offer me is 3% higher APR than his email offer. I tell him that his offer is unacceptable and I want what he quoted me in the email. He goes away again to whoever approves his deals and comes back with a lower APR, but still higher than what he originally quoted. At this point, I am pretty mad and I tell him to forget the whole deal.
The next day, I go to Santa Monica Acura, get the car at a better price (Santa Monica had been the lowest quote in the first place) and with finance terms the same as the original quoted rate from Power.
Bottom Line is if you go to Power, be careful. The person who sold me the car at Santa Monica told me that Power's fleet manager is a good guy, so it might be ok to go through him, but my recommendation is to stay away from the Internet Manager and whoever signs off on his deals.
Congrats on the new car. Power is also closer to me and I have talked with them in the past and also Santa Monica. I did not buy at the latest special financing as I believe it was 5.99% for 60 months, when it was 4.9% in April. Hopefully, the lower rates will come back toward the end of the model year.
Curious as to what your final out the door price was and what percentage financing did you get? Color? Interior?
From my experience, Santa Monica always seems to be the lowest, although I may end up buying at Power, since they are closer.
Thanks for the lessons learned with your buying experience.
I got so fixated on posting the 'buying experience', I forgot to post the price.
I paid 31,500 + TTL. Santa Monica's initial quote was 31,590, which Power had agreed to match, but then Planet came in with 31,500, so Santa Monica matched Planet (but Power wouldn't).
Financing 48 months @ 4.99. Color is Anthracite/Platinum.
Santa Monica was true to their emails and did not try to give me the runaround. I recommend them.
I am looking an O6 TL, Non Nav, white with ebony interior. Santa Monia acura has offered 29,890 plus TTL. Includes destination. Has anyone got a better deal??
Hi all. I am looking for an Acura TL 06 with or without navi in the philadelphia area. Does anyone know where to go for the best deal. Do you guys think I should go into any dealer and just say I want the car for invoice price. I am willing to go as far as new york city and as low as delaware to get a great deal below invoice. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Anyone have any expreienced buying these certified preowned. I have seen the 05's for around the mid $27's with about 5-8 miles on it and the 06's for about $29K. They give you the extra warranty and special financing of 4.9% for 60 months or 3.9% on 48 months. I can get a new one for $30,600, but I was wondering if these certified are the way to go because of the warranty and the financing. Just wondering. thanks
I'd go for the new one. Why are used TLs sitting on the lot. Either they were leased, in which case the previous "owner" probably neglected maintenance, oil changes, etc., because, why bother. Or they have been traded in. Why so early? Probably a lot of lemons sitting out there. Early TLs have had problems with rattles and other things.
I got my TL 5AT w/NAVI for $32500 + TTL in Orlando. Orlando has two dealers fairly close. The I didn't buy from ignored my emails. I sure that they would have beaten $300 under invoice (they were advertising $500 above invoice for Memorial Day Weekend). I went with the more responsive dealer. I'm extremely happy with that deal and I guess high competition in California leads to better deals then Florida.
I was just wondering if you had any luck finding a TL. I did go to Santa Monica Acura Memorial Day weekend, but found out the special financing being offered for a few days was not as good as the ones offered in April.
Did you buy and if so, what color combination and what was your out the door price?
Smartyjones - I didn't think horses could drive cars.
I got a non-Navi for 30,300 in NJ. According to dmarcus's post, he got a Navi for 32,XXX. You can do better than invoice. I worked my deal,(They won't just offer you the car for that price) but I had 2 dealerships willing to sell for 30.3k. I went with the one who didn't have a jerk sales guy. Sussman in Mapleshade NJ.
Hello All, can anyone share with me their buying experience in the Illinois area? Also, what I am should be expecting to pay at the out the price? Lastly, other then the car prices what is the miscellanies fee I should be looking at? Car price Destination fee Sales Tax Licensing fee
i am currently in NJ and am moving to Vegas in August. Dont need a car till I get out there. Should I buy here or wait till I get out there. What are best prices in Vegas vs NJ. Would a dealer ship it out there for me? Also have heard that southern California dealers are cheap, should I go there?
Petomlin - So is Sussman in Mapleshade NJ the dealership with a jerk sales guy. Which dealership had the bad sales guy. I would like to know so that I may target an end of the month sale.
Thing of it all is, I actually got the deal laid out faster at Turnersville Acura. I went to take delivery of the car, and the guy acted like he was doing me a favor! So, I walked out, called Sussman, asked them to match the deal - What a surprise - they did! I'll still use Turnersville for service though - Two different worlds.
Santa Monica was offering 5.9% for 60 months over Memorial day weekend. I got 5.7% through Capital One and thats what I am going to use to buy this weekend. Will be going for the White with ebony interior. Also FYI, South bay is offering 29799. -preeti.
JDude: Although I am in neither Jersey or Vegas, if I recall from this thread there is not a lot of Acura competition in Vegas. I'm sure NJ is more competitive, you could probably get a TL for around invoice without too much effort (as it is here in the Boston market). SoCal is probably also very competitive, lots of posts here regarding SoCal (e.g. Santa Monica Acura).
You could go to Acura's website, do a search for dealers around Vegas to get a feel for the competitive environment. Maybe email 'em for quotes as a test (or as part of your actual buying process) to compare to NJ quotes. Good luck, post what you find.
What is prompting the move to Vegas? I think I'm jealous.
'21 Dark Blue/Black Audi A7 PHEV (mine); '22 White/Beige BMW X3 (hers); '20 Estoril Blue/Oyster BMW M240xi 'Vert (Ours, read: hers in 'vert weather; mine during Nor'easters...)
Well the time is near and i've email a few Acura dealerships around the LA area. Well they quoted me around 37k-38k as an "out the door" price for an Acura TL 2006 with Nav. I've also added the back up sensor and the I-pod connection. Is this a good price? Can I do better? I'll be buying it with-in a month so i'm just shopping around looking for the best price. Also what threw me off was that the back up sensor cost about 650 and the I-pod connector 250 on the Acura web site, but they want to charge me about 1,200-1,500 for the sensor w/install. And 650 for the I-pod connector install. I think their trying to rip me off. they claiming that it takes about 5 hours to install the sensor @ $97 an hour, and 3-4 hours for the connector. Are these people blowing smoke up my butt? Well just want to get some ideas before i blow off 37k. Or if anyone knows a good dealer around the LA-San Fran area please drop me a line. Thanks for the help.
I've only received email quotes for TL with Nav. Best quote back in April with special financing they had was $31,600 plus TTL. So can't really tell you much about the backup sensor and the Ipod connection.
From my own experience and from messages on this post, Santa Monica Acura "seems" to have the lowest prices. I say "seems" since I did not get down to the nitty gritty of negotiatons.
I would think as the model year for 2006 winds down, will be even lower prices - at least, that is what I am hoping for plus the special financing comes back.
Also talked with one of the Internet Managers from Power Acura in Torrance and seemed like a straight shooter. Hope this helps.
I don't know about the backup sensor, but I paid $395 for the musiclink installed. I got this price from two different dealers in NJ. So $650 seems very high.
Any comments on dealers in the NY area? - looking for a TL 5AT with Nav. Dealers in this area seem to be very "transactional" and not relationship focused - much different experience than when I bought my other cars. Response by e-mails/phone calls would undercut my best price at that time, by at least $300. Placed a deposit on one (tired of playing around,) and a late respond beat that by over $500. Ugh. Not talking about $100 to $200 here, $500 is 1/3 the cost of the nav option, and have to drive the same distance to this and the other dealer. Plus, have every other oil change free - tough to beat; and seems like someone was “taking me for a ride.” Looking at the TL, Nav - for $32.8, excludes tax and title.
thanks to all on this board. I have used Edmunds for pricing in the past, as a good guideline. inked a deal in KC, (Jwolfe) should pick up Thurs. Red TL, auto, deck lid spoiler, mats, splash guards, wheel locks, trunk trey (conv. package?) Traded an 04 Pilot (hated it! 15mpg, dents if you look at it) according to Edmunds TMV, I did better by about $2500. If you look at the TL as $31800 plus TTl (Invoice plus options) then they did me pretty good on the trade (needed both bumpers painted) A deal I can live with. Internet guy was pretty good, first sales manager was a total [non-permissible content removed], walked on him, but finished the deal over the phone
Consumer Beware! I sent my parents in on a recommendation after having a fairly OK experience. They took full advantage of them! I guess I’m more aware but older folks are more likely to be trusting- I wasn’t able to go in with them and I was in shock when I saw their contract on my return. Watch your backs with these folks!! They convinced my elderly parents to sign up for a 4 year lease!! The payments are higher than if they bought it at 7%!The car was valued at over $40,000! In truth- they shouldn't have signed- but the guy was telling them they needed these things and they are very trusting! Go to Goodman or somewhere else before going to these guys! Ripped off and mad... Don’t trust these guys!!! Salesman was nice- "finance manager" is out to get the salesman and you-- will attempt anything and everything to slip things into your contract. Happened with me too!! Finance guy slipped in a $650 charge for something idiotic and told me it would be free- all he did was reduce the price I got the car for so not only did the salesman lose part of the commission he EARNED but the finance-jerk padded his own pocket in the process. Service department is really expensive and they will perform "required maintainance" on your car without asking first- tried to charge me $80 to add a fuel cleaner to my gas tank! You can buy that at the store for around $5!!

Goodson beat the Vandergriff price over the phone, which Vandegriff matched.
McDavid (which is closest to me) then beat them both by $100+.
But then I bought w/o Navi at the end of December - about $175 below invoice plus TTL.

$3,700 Tade in for 10 year Honda Civic coupe with low miles
