    According to this:
http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q_how_to/a5/jettachecklist.htm The loyal also comes with body kit, sunroof, and premium radio. You don't get the new navigation system though, only the old nav system is offered on the loyal.

Thanks. That's a pretty good deal for that equipment.

Just writing to second the comment about Chapman in Scottsdale AZ, but they didn't seem deceptive to me. I test drove a Jetta TDI there last week and they were very nice and were up front about the $2k premium over MSRP. I ended up calling North Scottsdale VW and was told that their parent company (Penske Automotive) prohibited them from charging premiums. So, I ordered mine from there and expect it around Thanksgiving.

According to the myturbodiesel link in the post, VW stopped making Loyalty Edition cars during July, but I just ordered one last week. I wonder if I'm in for a surprise or if the web post is wrong. MMMMmmmmmm?????

The info in the myturbodiesel link comes directly from the VW dealer spec sheet. If you look closely at the notes on the spec sheet, loyal editions "EOP", approximate end of production, was the 26th week of 2008.

It takes a while for the car to be put onto a ship, shipped to the US, then gets held at the port while VW decides where to distribute it. Then it gets put on a car carrier and driven to the dealer. The cars available and being delivered are both loyals and later production cars.

I just picked up my brand-spanking new 2009 VW Jetta TDI on Tuesday, 9/2/08. I had not ordered it or anything either! I had been talking to the dealership about their White demo model, and the saleswoman called me one day and told me that a Black on black TDI sedan with the Auto transmission, Loyalty Edition, had just "shown up" on their latest truck and gave me the opportunity to place a deposit on it, so I did! It took about two weeks to sell my old vehicle, and the dealership held the TDI for that long, even though they had others coming in with cash in hand! Overall, the experience was fantastic, took me about 1-2 hours to close the deal. They charged me MSRP of $24,190, so after taxes, tags, title and doc it was about $25,385. AND I'll get my tax credit this year. I bought my car from Frema VW in Goldsboro, NC and would definately recommend them! All the other dealerships I spoke to in Raleigh told me that if I got on their list, it could be September, or it could be next March before they had a TDI to sell. :)

Can you post your fuel economy. I'm looking at the 2009 TDI and am curious to see if they are beating the EPA fuel economy ratings.

Does anyone know how much the factory Extended Warranty on the TDI is and what the terms or conditions are?

With approximately 180-190 miles on it, according to the display I'm getting around 36-37 miles per gallon... which I think is pretty good seeing as it's still in its break-in period, and I haven't exactly been easy on it. :shades:

The computer MPG readout on our Passat TDI is typically optimistic by 9-14%, so it's best to calculate your fuel mileage the old fashion way. Enjoy your Jetta.

First two tanks on my tdi with the dsg transmission averaged 41 and 42 mpg. This was calculated by hand. The driving was 70-80 percent hilly highway with the ac on running 68-75 mph. This tank avg. has had more in town driving and has according to the display is still over 40 mpg. Last interstate trip w/o air driving 80 miles the display was showing an avg. of 47.4 mpg while driving 68-72 mph.

    Hope this info. helps.

Kinda curious if anyone has packed their new TDI to the hilt for a road trip yet - experience etc? Just about all the new cars are nice with one or two people but start packing some gear in them for a long weekend and weaknesses start to surface either performance or space etc.

That is why a big SUV is nice. Always plenty of room and it rarely changes your mileage.

Just went to a VW dealer last night to check out a 2009 TDI. There seems to be a shortage in our area and the one they had in stock was not what we wanted. Of course they tried everything to sell it anyway. The GM said that VW have raised the MSRP by about $2,800 on the ones that are in the production pipeline and later deliveries will cost more. A couple of other dealers have said that the TDIs are typically selling for about $1,800-3,000 above MSRP. Curious if anyone else had been told either of these things or if people are actually paying above MSRP.

    Welcome to the forum,
Widen your search area. The two dealers in San Diego I talked to are selling very well and at MSRP. Even if you have to go to an adjoining state it would be better than paying more than MSRP. The ones that are gouging should be reported by letter to VWUSA. It may not do any good. It will get them on record as gougers with corporate. Good luck, don't let them shaft you.

I just came back from 2 different VW dealers. One said the sticker price is the price, the other said 2500-5000 above sticker...lol. I couldn't even respond when I heard that.
These dealers are in Brooklyn, NY

I call VWUSA and made a complaint with this particular dealer.
The other dealers in my area simply said they sell for sticker price and are very hard to get...........instead of showing a TDI and trying to get 5g's more.

    Car dealers are vermin

Just got the new 2009 TDI for my wife. Ended up paying about $800.00 over MSRP i'm not very pleased with the fact that i paid over MSRP but i'm guessing this cars are going to be out in limited numbers till God knows when + we got the 6 speed manual. According the the sales person it was already reserved but willing to make an extra buck on it. they had at least four others but with auto trany. My wife and I agreed that if we're purchasing it's got to be a manual, you pay premium on a diesel at this point in time. by the way this took place in Pasadena, Ca. previously we went to Santa Monica VW asked the sales person if we could test drive the TDI we were told they were not allowing test drives on the TDI till probably February 2009 unless we're willing to put a deposit, all the TDI's they're getting sell before arrival. so i probably got the shaft but sometimes you got to take it and be happy that at least got got it. I don't know if we got the Loyal edition but it's kind of fully equipped. Sun roof, leatheratte, premium sound, electronic driver side seat, steering wheel controls, ipod hookup, heated outside mirrors, premium wheels + a host of other features and for those who have not tested they're a blast to drive.

I would NEVER pay over MSRP and will never pay MSRP. I will wait I have seen them on e.bay for MSRP. I don't have to have the car with the country in this condition. They will be UNDER MSRP by DEC / 09

If the backlog of hybrids on the lots are any indicator. I would say by Dec this year you can get close to invoice on a Jetta TDI. Not sure about the wagon. I am with you. I never get in a big hurry to throw my money away.

Also the Honda diesel will be out in the Acua TSX in about 4 months. Volkswagen enjoy the party now because I would take Honda reliability over Volkswagen any day

Acua TSX in about 4 months.

That will be good for business. BMW will be out in December also. I think I would take the 335d over the TSX. They will be priced similarly. At least $10k more than the VW Jetta TDI. Until Honda brings a diesel in the $24k range VW will have the market to themselves.

    bobgwtwbobgwtw Member Posts: 187
I've read somewhere on the internet - can't remember where - that the diesel premium on the TSX will be $850. If this is corect it will be $5 grand or so more than the TDI, but way less than a comparably equiped BMW. For me, an extra 5 grand for the TSX would be money well spent to avoid VW's maintenance & repair costs.

In regards to reliability I don't know if you own or have owned any new VW in the past, of course the reason i use the word new it's because you can't hold the manufacturer responsible for any abuse the car could suffered at the hands of the original owner. In our family we've owned not one but several and we have never ever had any significant problem with any of our VW's. some claim to have had these horrible experiences. and i can assure you two of our VW's are being driven by young adults and those kids are not kind to their cars. But if we ever experience reliability problems we'll be the first ones to report.

I checked several dealers today and each one had TDI's on the lot. VW Santa Monica has 20 and would sell me any TDI on the lot for MSRP.

I'm waiting and watching.... I need a car and was going Prius but if the TDI performs better, I'm interested!

I bet at the end of the month I can make a deal! ;)

I agree. Gas and diesel prices will continue to drop. We will see $55/barrel oil soon, with a serious recession looming closely on the horizon (I trade commodities, and follow these markets closely).

Hybrids and diesels will experience a relatively dramatic slowdown in sales, at which time, manufacturers will begin stacking cash on the hood to move them, just like the rest of the cars they're trying to move.

Also, hybrid production is increasing, as existing production lines are increasing the number of cars produced, new plants are about to bring additional models on line (Honda's new Insight in April of '09), and new diesel offerings from Acura, Honda and other German automakers hit the market.

Auto sales are experiencing their worst decline in a long, long time. In 2006, over 17 million new cars were sold in the U.S. Industry specialists claim that only 12-13 million or so new cars will be sold in '08, and '09 may actually be worse (in fact, they're saying it probably will be).

Time is on your side, yes it is.

A week ago they were asking MSRP PLUS for a TDI Jetta around SoCal...

Today I had a call back from a dealer that told me the "Good deal" internet price was MSRP...
Now she says "we'll beat any deal you find"

No wonder... they have 20 TDI's in stock. And they are in stock all across SoCal.

Please -> Nobody fall for the "these are hard to get" sales line! They are just a car and there is enough supply! ;)

Not sure where you are located, but I recently purchased a Jetta TDi Sportwagen at sticker. Lia VW in Enfield, CT has diesel Jetta sedans allocated to them that have not yet been sold. I went to 5 dealers in the central CT and western Mass area and none were charging over sticker. I love the car, it drives great. My mpg has not been as great as Volkswagen leads you to believe. In the first 1,000 miles I have averaged 38mpg with a high of 45 on a 100% highway trip.

Hello. Anyone own TDI manual? If so what is the experience so far? HOw about mileage? Have you run in to the check engine light issue that I have read others describe in this forum?

I'm ready to close lease and am leaning on a 6 sp manual.

    Thank you.

We are in Atlanta. We haven't bought yet, we're waiting for the economy to get worse and try to make a deal when the dealers get more desperate. In the past 2 weeks 2 of the dealers who were asking $500 to be on their call list when they got new TDIs in stock have called and offered to put us on for free because "good news, the list is much shorter now" - I bet it is. The dealer who was claiming they are getting up to $3K above MSRP (and who said future ones would be more $$$) is suddenly getting in extra cars "as a bonus from VW USA for their great customer service scores" and willing to sell for MSRP now.

I have owned a 6 spd. manual TDI for about a month now. Have approx. 1500 miles on it. Avg. 44-47 mpg. Thats 15% city, 85% highway. If you treat it gently, you will get great milage. If you get on it, it will reduce mpg. No lights have come on yet. Been running fine. The 6 spd. takes some getting use to, mostly due to coming from a 5 spd. Maxima. Everything is geard low, and requires more shifting due to close gears, but clutching is easy and light. This is my first diesel, I like it so far.

Just wondering what people quoted lately. I was thinking about getting a TDI sportwagen. This week I got a quote from a NJ dealer for $2500 above MSRP. Is this what others are still paying now? Thanks.

Send emails to every dealer in a 200 mile radius. Tell them you want their no haggle best price and will not come in until you have that price on an email. DO NOT pay anything over MSRP. I think you should get down close to invoice dealing by email.

Since I'm polite, I would just think "drop dead and eat one" instead of saying it to the dealer. Car sales are not just flat, they are in freefall. They don't deserve your business if they are going to rip you off like that. MSRP is fair and as of right now, is market price, especially for the wagons. If it's a sedan, you should be able to find slightly below MSRP if you search around. You're also in NJ, there should be at least 10 dealers within a 1 hour drive. Isn't 1 hour of driving to get a better deal worth $2500?

    Hi All,

I have been looking for a month now at a TDI, an I just got one yesterday.

09 Jetta TDI 6sp manual, with sunroof and mudflaps
MSRP $23,809 - actual buy price with dealer fee: $22,495.50, diff. of $1,313.50.

    Details of deal
    car 21896.5
    dealer fee 599
    reg 213.75
    taxes 1403.86
    OTD 24113.11

I got this deal through the internet department, and they really wanted to make a sale on the 31st of Oct. They removed a lot of the price to start, and it was not enough, so I was going to get a Wolfsburg at another dealer for $20,500 (manual trans.), and they even brought the price down so there dealer fee (which is high) did not affect the price that much.

So for those of you still paying over MSRP, stop, get some internet pricing and shop around (this deal was in South FL). I am happy with this deal, cheaper is better, but the economy is slow, and there are deals to be had. However, VW finance rate on the TDI are HORRIBLE - ~8%.... This I can not believe, I wanted VW Financing because I save on my lease turn-in (Audi A4), but I will pay the the extra $350 to turn in the car, b/c I got a much better rate at a normal bank.

Thanks for this site I use it to see what people are really paying, and the above is real.

    all the best,
    Bill A

Just paid list price at Colonial VW in Trevose PA. Just across the river northern philly suburb. Was on the list since August...wagon came in in the colors I wanted, but with the sunroof. Oh well...

2500 above MSRP? In this economy? Was in and out in 2 hours, they took my Caddy Seville in trade.

200 miles on it since yesterday when I picked up. With cruise control on, on the NJ turnpike between exit 9 and 7A...was returning a constant 50 MPG at 65/70 MPH.

Oh, yeah, the dealer delivered with a full tank. I have just a little under 3/4 right now.

    You can do better.

Will do. Right now, at 500 miles (I'm driving it and loving it more and more...) combined town and highway (according to the readout on the display) my average is 40.2. I'm serious, too.

I'm thinking (and this is based on keeping numbers from engines that I've rebuilt, mostly brit cars...I know it bears no relation to this technology, but, it's what I have to go on...) that as it breaks in (and I'm not doing anything special other than heeding the suggestions in the Owner's Manual) I'm going to return somewhere around 5% better mileage once all the parts have bedded in. That means a combined figure around 42-43 mpg I guestimating. Hey, 40 combined is nothing to sneeze at if I don't get the extra 2 or 3 mpg on full break in, right?

Taking a trip to Fredericksburg VA this weekend from the northern Philly area. That will give it a good chance to come up to full stable temps (my commute is only a half hour) and a long interstate cruise.

And the heated seats are nice. I think VW, just based on my experiences so far, has a winner here. It's a shame more folks hold their nose at the mention of 'Diesel'. This car is quieter than my SO's Pontiac G6 at idle, smoother at idle than my 98 seville (you have to look at the tach to see if it's running...I'm serious...), and is torquey enough to squirt yourself onto the superslab from the entrance ramp.

If you haven't test driven one, go for it. No financial interest, etc. Just a happy camper (so far...).

I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area looking for an 09 Jetta TDI Sportwagon, 6 spd auto/Tip, lazer blue or red salsa, anthracite leatherette, 17" wheels, body molding/accents, sunroof, nav, IPod. I'm getting the same feedback regarding scarcity and up to $5k over MSRP. Intuitively that just sticks in my craw considering the state of the car market, regardless of how popular these cars are. Have not tried internet. Thoughts? Also what is the "Loyalty" edition, and does the TDI Sportwagon have steering wheel controls or not. VW brochure seems to say yes, internet no, and I read here that someone bought one w controls. I'm getting conflicting info.

We purchased a 2009 VW Jetta Sportwagen TDI from a Garden Grove, CA dealer on Oct. 28th for MSRP. They were asking $2000 over MSRP, but we refused to pay it and they sold it to us for MSRP. It was the only Sportwagen TDI they had.

I don't think at this time you will be able to get a TDI at invoice or close to invoice. Plus the mark up from invoice to MSRP is only around $1,100. Paying over MSRP in any US market is wrong. MSRP on a TDi right now is the market. You can wait for the TDI market to soften. Keep in mind there is a allocation supply problem to supply the local dealerships across the country with TDI's. You might have to wait for some time. There is a dealership in SO Cal with a good stock of around 20 some TDI's, but no TDI sportwagens - sorry. Enjoy your new TDI! ;)

Was just at the local VW dealer here and the salesman was negotiating off of MSRP on the lot. So I have no doubt that I could have taken one of their in stock units for less than MSRP without much work. But - in stock units were sedans with automatics. No sportwagons yet and the MT were already gone.

there seems to be a surplus of TDI's in my area now. I'm located out side of St. Louis and i checked the dealer websites and they each have 4-10 TDI's in stock.

looks like its the right time to buy

There's one TDI Sportwagen at a local TX dealership that just happens to be exactly the specs I want. They want MSRP for it. This strikes me as about right given the demand for TDI Sportwagens.

    Any thoughts on this?
