It said that Garfinkle's design was inspired by the 1969 Lancia Marica show car. (No idea what that would look like? Would that be a Frua design as well?)
Looks like a DKW, but with all the East German junk (lots of Wartburgs...bad name for a car) in the background, it could be some postwar monstrosity contrived by the commies in East Germany using salvaged dies, like the EMW.
No one else has any idea what that was. Actually Fin was pretty close. It's a Sachsenring IFA F8 sedan, made from 1949 to 1955 by the same folks in the DDR who gave the world the Trabant, it is based on prewar DKW mechanicals.
hmmm...I dunno....looks very Germanic to me, especially the front fenders and headlight surrounds and hub caps....also a very weird car....okay, so Germanic and weird....this is starting to sound East German again, or maybe Scandanavian--very strang grille badge, too. Not a "normal" car from a "normal" country, I'm sure.
Close enough...it's an EMW as was mentioned with the earlier guess I made. I think they have an interesting history....IIRC, after the war BMW's Munich area facilities were heavily damaged, and didn't produce many cars before 1950. But their Eisenach factory, in what became the DDR, fared much better, and resumed production soon after the war. It actually made copycat BMW cars until the early 50s, when BMW took action. The cars were renamed EMW, and the grille and logo changed. I think the company later made the Wartburg too.
for the West, but the loss of the Skoda factory to the Western market was unfortuante I think. Skoda made some interesting cars and might have done okay in the USA.
But who knows. Borgward had a great shot at becoming the BMW of America but they blew it, since Mr. Borgward was kind of a tyrant and thought he knew better than anyone how to do things.

Ettore Bugatti was a real character wasn't he? I love the story about him designing a pair of shoes that had individual toes. That is SO Bugatti.
Not for those who don't care for Euro-American styling.

Keerect, one of a line of German-built Fords to bear the Taunus name. This one dates from the mid-70s based on the color and the wheels.
