ryan...don't you know? those 1000+ posts? that's all by like, 4 different people. duh! toyota would NEVER build and sell a truck that vibrates! what's wrong with you?
and quad...tundras that knock. how dare you! you can't possibly BELIEVE that's true now, can you?
oh, and the main and rod bearing clearances...here we go with that drivel again. yawn. must be causin' some really major problems. that's why the only people i hear talking about it are king tundrat and his serfs.
oh well, can't complain too much, at least they're starting to talk about trucks again...or at least trying to.
You brought this upon yourself hahaha you sure did rile this topic up. I think it was for the best. It was way to quiet. Arguing and disagreeing is fun. What i dont like is all this nonsense (thinking) about EVERY TRUCK does it. I know every tundra and silverado doesnt vibrate but they are out there. I know every silverado doesnt ping and knock cause mine doesnt but they are out there.
that's true... at 5'7"... some 'lifted' compact trucks I can't see over the bed walls anymore... a 4X4 Dodge I can't see over the bed wall... at least the one I saw at the airport...
..I think I have a couple Tundras in the back of mine?....can't tell...bed is too deep and tundra is too short......but I'm pretty sure I picked a few up from the side of the road and tossed them back there.....
"I am curious what have you hauled in your tundra?"
Besides engines, trannies, etc for my neighbors Silverado....there's the Swedish bikini team girls who are always hitting me up for a ride. (no matter how much you hate me, please don't tell my wife, she's...Irish)
"mundane" eh?!? I guess I can live with that.... ;-)
I only "single[d] out [you] and BCO as the main pervayers [sic] of flameramas, even though there are plenty more guilty" because your names and posts were then fresh in my mind as good (bad?) examples of the testosterone wars. It certainly has nothing to do with you both being in the military. I wasn't even aware of that shared trait and have more trouble than you in keeping people separated and distinct in my mind.
You know, I guess it's only boredom that makes me participate in here at all. I actually can't remember ever reading any truly useful information posted herein. But there is always some entertainment value to be found here (in basically the same category as Wildest Police Videos, The Jerry Springer Show and Real TV) although the song and dance doesn't change much.
Don't mind me (I'm sure none will). Carry on carrying on.... ;-)
See thats what i am talking about. Cant even be serious as to what you haul. You didnt see me throing hauling tundra parts. I guess then you haul zilch. Nada nothing truck is a waste should have bought a car
tim2 - "But there is always some entertainment value to be found here (in basically the same category as Wildest Police Videos, The Jerry Springer Show and Real TV) although the song and dance doesn't change much."
i agree. there's a couple who live near me who've coined a term for it: "irritainment". they watched that show "making the band" one night, and were hooked. to the point where they would tape it if they weren't home to see it. of course...he drives a ford, but that's beside the point...
irritainment...look that one up...you'll see a picture of rwell/bama posing together...
"See thats what i am talking about. Cant even be serious as to what you haul. You didnt see me throing hauling tundra parts. I guess then you haul zilch. Nada nothing truck is a waste should have bought a car" Ryan
GM poduced 1 million trucks with defective engine bearings!!! I knew their quality was abysmal, but this must be a new record, even for them. Sure tops the 10,000+ GM trucks running the highways, right now, with defective ABS. YIKES!!!
...thing and the knocking that some new Chevy's have been making. Are the tolerances the cause of the knock, because I could have sworn the fix was to pour some crap down each cylinder and let it sit. This apparently will temporarily quiet the noise. Are these two things independent of each other, because I can't see how getting lubrication up on the cylinder walls would help bearing tolerances. I'm not saying any of this is a big deal. Just like I kept saying the piston slap in the Fords was no big deal. It almost sounds like the juice down each cylinder and letting it sit is a fix for a problem like piston slap. Wouldn't that be ironic, especially after all you guys harped on that forever. I guess I should be giving you guys hell, even though this bearing tolerance thing does not affect longevity or performance (just like the piston slap annoyance)!!!
rob...honestly...it disappoints you that my truck runs fine doesn't it?
look, i'm sorry the thing people value you most for is your mixed drink making tundra...but hey...maybe next time you'll be smart enough to get a real truck. until then..."bartender (that's YOU) i'll have a martini...vibrated, not stirred" LOL!!!
Yep, folks post that fact on them limited ones, and them yuppies blow that smoke on them big3 ones. But them facts is them facts, them tundras be spellin out "Da Runt", and that be what they be. If ya try workin em, then watch out! They goin break quick now. That truth is that truth now. Good luck on this one now!
Ummm...I haven't said anything about YOUR particular truck having problems. Why would you feel the burning need to inform us all, that everything is just peachy with your Silverado? Unless.....maybe it isn't!!!!!
Did you ask something about "the haul" ??? If so, refer your question to Rube/justletone. He is the self-appointed expert-non-grata about all things "haul".
#0 of 16: What is known about it? Tue 10 Oct '00 (03:54 PM)
I have a 2000 2WD Silverado with the 5.3 liter. I have been noticing that the engine is knocking/rapping on the the first start of the day. This knock sounds like there is no oil in the engine. A lot of engines do this for a few seconds until the pump gets the oil back to the top; however, my truck (I'm hearing a lot of others) is knocking for up to 2 minutes! I use Mobile 1 Syn. 10W30 and good filters, I have good and steady oil pressure from the turn of the key. It seems to be temperature dependent in that it goes away when the engine approaches 180ish degrees. I have also heard Chevy knows about this and has changed engine tolerances for the 2002 engines. Any info on this would be appreciated. Thanks
(obyone) Tue 10 Oct '00 (04:59 PM) #1 of 16: You are correct. I believe it was the bearing tolerances. Can't do much about it now other that trade for a '01 and that ain't much of an option.
A GM Press release referring to 4.8 and 5.3 liter V8s states:
"For 2001, the main bearing tolerances of these engines have been tightened for quieter, cold-engine startup. "
WHOA!!! That means for the '99 and '00 engines - it was a crap shoot whether your engine had loose bearings causing cold start knock. And Oby says the only cure is to trade it in!
As long as you are being polite now, you'll certainly want to apologize and explain the urge behind your juvenile name calling, posts #577, #636 where you called posters runts, packers, and sissies?
It sure is hard for the Chev packers to face the hard facts: Chevy = Expensive Junk.
I'm sorry that J.D. Powers and Consumer Reports beats up on little ol' GM all of the time. It's not fair! It must be all of the advertising that Toyota does with them. LOL These reports contain something that the Chevy pack abhors: Facts.
'99 Silverado - Used Vehicle to avoid - already! (Consumer Reports)
These were the result of surveys filled out by Shakerado owners. It seems that Chevy owners in general are not very happy with their trucks. (That just isn't fair!)
Tundra: Winner of the 2000 J.D.Powers quality award for full-size pickups.
Tundra: Best predicted reliability for 2000 full size pickups. This is based on Consumer Reports surveys filled out by Tundra owners in '99. I wonder where all the dissatisfied Tundra owners went?
Check out Toyota Tundra - Recent Buyers - Vibration Pbm? (Topic #2038) as Timothy Davis suggested. Virtually all of the posts to that topic are by Chevy owners! In four months, there has been only one poster who owns a Tundra with a vibration problem. Where are the hordes of Tundra owners having vibraton problems?
Now look at the Chevy vibration topics at Edmund's - over 2600 posts so far this year. Not one by a Tundra owner! It seems that Chevy has a far more severe problem. I could spend the next few months copying and pasting negative Chevy posts like BCO and Quad are fond of doing, but - as I have said before - what is the point?
GO to http://agmlemon.freeservers.com/ - check it out for yourselves. I don't feel a need to copy and paste all of the posts here. I am willing to bet that most people will be able to follow links and find the articles for themselves. Why clog up the bandwidth of this site?
Although there are certainly vibrating Tundras out there, they are relatively few. They are so few that the Chevy pack has to go to other sites to find negative posts. Hmmm - I don't have to go to other sites to find negative Chevy posts. What is the deal?
Could it be that the Chevy packers are taking a small Tundra vibration problem and trying to make it look big?
This is a concept that is beyond the understanding of the Chevy pack - that if you want to maximize your chance of having an unreliable, low quality heap - you need go no further than your local Chevy dealer.
Chev pack - try as you will - you will never be able to make the Chevy into a Toyota. You can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear.
Why cant you answer my simple question? You go on and on about JD POWER. What about reality. What kinda stuff do you haul with your truck. I guess i can assume with no reply that you haul absolutely nothing. SO what was the point of you getting a truck in the first place???
I bet his next post will include JD POWERS and motor trend and his fav buddy consumer reports. Those magazines have nothing to with with reality in how a truck is used. Im curious tundra owners whatcha guys hauling with your tundra (rwell be serious)
Got me a theory on that JD Power one. What if a bunch of them yuppies, chasin that fad, went out and got em that Chevy now. Them yuppies, never havin worked a truck or nothin, be expectin that car like ride and such. Them yuppies be shocked, cuz that Chevy be ridin and actin like a truck and such! They go off whinin too that JD Power on it. This would also be explainin why that tundra got that better JD report, since it be drivin and actin like the car that it be. If ya goin work em, get ya a big3, if just chasin that fad, get ya a limited one. What say too this one? Good luck on this one now!
Folks ever wonder why ya cant get that hitch on them limited ones now? Could it be cuz of that lack of haul? Is that factory hintin at somethin now? Ponder this mystery now and remember that other factory hint: "Da Runt"! Good luck on this one now!
OK Rube...er..I mean Ryan. You seem obsessed with "the haul". I've told you my experiences before. Mostly hang gliders, pilot and gear. I've had 7 people with 5 gliders and 500 lbs of gear going up a 45 degree, boulder strew wash in 4 low. The truck performed great (ford owner opted to ride with me for fear his vehicle would roll on the steep slope).
"Ummm...I haven't said anything about YOUR particular truck having problems. Why would you feel the burning need to inform us all, that everything is just peachy with your Silverado?"
well, yeah, when you said that bco stood for broken chevy owner, i'd have to say that pretty much implies you WERE talking about MY particular truck. i feel the need to inform you that everything is great with my truck because that way, even if it's vicariously, you'll have the opportunity to know what it feels like to own a damn good truck.
and as for the 45 degree slope...i thought before it was 28... hmm...tale keeps gettin' taller. maybe next iteration will have you towing that ford up that 45 degree slope? LOL. come back to the real world bud...
bama...still cuttin' and pastin'. thought you gave up on wasting bandwidth? so much for that theory, eh...
