Thanks.
You gotta be kidding? The salesman deliberately lied and misrepresented the price reduction, saying it was due to the car being a demo. It's slime balls like this that give the profession a bad name.
Man, I believe in Santa Claus after all and so do our hosts. They’ll get their Christmas bonus just in time to do some car shopping. I hope they put in a good word with the higher ups at Edmunds so our dues don’t go up again in 2010.
Thanks again for the good stories,

Speaking of shopping for a refrigerator, guess who feels she deserves one of those huge French style jobs? Yeah, you’re right and I don’t need any help with that purchase. I feel I’m getting off pretty cheap compared to what she’s had her eye on.
A fridge for a Genny, I’ll take that deal any day.

Could be because around me there aren't many VW dealers (one, I think). There could be more. I just don't know where they're located.
Is the CC a different model than the Passat? Or, is it a model within a model....a Passat CC? I'm not damning them. I just haven't seen them except at the car shows.
I knew a guy who bought a new Phaeton. I think it was VW's attempt to move upmarket. Nice car. But, he has lamented that his car's value dropped like a stone when they quit making them Come to think of it, his is the only Phaeton I've ever seen on the road, also.
That thought crossed my mind but I'm not worried and if she is trying to do to me what I did to her (make the purchase seem like it was the idea of the other spouse), I can live with that because I got mine first.
Now don't try to scare me with the old saying, "it isn't a race it's a marathon", because I thought of that too and I'm working on my defenses for that as we speak.

The salesperson did lie about the 8000.00 reduction.
He may not have even known. Stores aren't obligated to pass on incentive money.
8000.00?? those things must be dogs to sell!

When I "special ordered" (Honda calls it something different, I think, but that's what it is if effect) my 2008 Accord EXL navi manual the salesperson who I bought it from was happy to do it. But he asked for a $1000 deposit, which I happily gave him. I still had the right to inspect the car, he told me, and in the highly unlikely event there was anything wrong with the car they would fix it before I actually took delivery.
Anyway, the car was perfect, and still is till this day--knock on plood.
I was not at all offended that my salesperson asked for a deposit on such and odd duck vehicle. But it's interesting that he asked for that deposit "insurance" before he'd order it from the factory...
That was a great story, and the money you got back was a nice bonus for your parents. Legally, the salesguy was covered, but ethically it was wrong to do what he did. (It is similar to C4C, had to get that one in there for the regulars).
The Tribeca is a good solid car that gets great write ups...It has quirky styling and isn't priced right for that market, but your parents will love it and it is a great car with your weather conditions.
The Forester has become the big selling car for baby boomers, smaller than most cars, but that all wheel drive makes them reliable.
Glad you went in and fought for that extra money the dealer did try to scam your parents out of. Would have made a great story in the local newspaper!!!!

An excellent sales story and nicely told...Richard should be proud of you. Are you an English major?
I hope you don't wait too long, you should buy that car right away. An Infinity will never have the feel of that CC, and your wife will be upset if she loses this car. You were destined to buy it, that is why you found it, and that is why is is still there on the lot...and it comes within your price range. A new CC for the price of an Infinity with 30k miles! Where's the comparison.
"> How could you not buy it before it goes?

It makes perfect sense to take a deposit prior to ordering a car the dealership may not want as a stock unit. It also helps to deal with buyer's remorse.

The CLS is just a E-Class with a sexier outside body and more emphasis on the sport. They both cost about the same to make but they charge a whole lot more for them because they look sexier.
That is also why the incentives look so big on CC because it cost about the same amount of money to make it as a Passat but they are charging 10,000 dollars more for it. Makes it pretty easy to offer a huge incentive at the end of the model run to clear out an albatrosses.
We sold our last 2009 CC VR6 for 10,000 dollars off. It stickered for 41,900ish and we sold it for exactly 10,000 dollars off.

I'll have to keep my eyes peeled to recognize them on the road.
Giving a deposit shows that they are serious. I can't remember having to give a deposit back.
When they ask " Is this refundable if I change my mind?", I'll tell them that unless they are deadly serious about buying the car, I won't get it for them.
At that point, they usually just write a check.
I'm straight with them and I expect the same in return.
Great looking to be sure but it's amazing how so many cars look the same these days.
When I was much younger, I coiuld stand on a corner and tell the year and model of just about any car that passed. Not anymore.

Right on - very good observation! A direct copy, which is what Hyundai does so well. Current Sonata resembles a Mercedes. When i go for a morning walk I see a white one parked next to a C Class and it is hard to tell them apart.
The original CC just has a little more class going for it, but it is a pretty good rip off.

Good detective work houdini....ever consider a career at CSI? Thanks for the update on the story, it is aggravating when posters leave us hanging.
I am glad they bought the car though.............a great car for not much more than a new loaded jetta probably.

Geez, let it go
The salesman in this case lied. Nobody is defending him. We all agree he's wrong.
The salespeople durign C4C were just reacting to supply/demand.
Seriously, move on, please!
That is correct. My Passat is very rare indeed. It's VR6 4Motion (VW's term for AWD) *and* it's a wagon.
You can now only get the Passat with a 4 cylinder turbo, and with none of the luxury goodies you used to get. If you want luxury/V6, you have to go up to the CC.
Yeah, we gave people 4500.00 for junk cars that barely ran and some still complained.
Thanks,
Chintan

The salesman acted like they told my folks the price reduction was for it being a 2009, not a demo. Mom's sharp as a knife...especially when it comes to getting value for her dollar, she wouldn't miss the "incentive" if it was presented as such. They love their new toy and that's the main thing.

Did you ever give a thought that you are the one he (driver100) had in mind when he put that comment into his post? I did.

Seriously I give up on your, driver100 I mean, posts I guess I just have to ignore you from now on because all you do is stir.
I’d be interested to know how your parents will fill out the survey, if they even get one.
After being lied to, I wouldn’t give them all 10’s that’s for sure. In the box/s where they ask for comments, I’d make full use of those boxes. The only way to correct things like this is to be honest when you take the survey. Otherwise you are no better than the dealer that was trying to pull a fast one.

Of course, I won't reply to him on this matter again.
Car surveys are different. Anything other than all 10's is consider failed. Just something to keep in mind for your next car purchase.
Go back and read the original post. It wasn’t until ‘tcp2’ confronted the dealer about how they were less than honest with his parents that they then decided to make an adjustment for the mileage because the car was used as a demo. Originally they said they were discounting the car for the mileage but that was not the truth. All they were doing was passing on the rebate/incentive from the way I read the post. The 8K they were discounting the car is a very nice discount but it was not due to the mileage. I’m pretty sure ‘tcp2’ said the dealer used the word “misunderstanding” in their back peddling when the adjustment for the mileage was being made so that the deal could be finalized.
If I’m wrong, ‘tcp2’ should correct me.

You gave up on me long before that one, but, I think I must have hit a nerve there somewhere............so there must be a bit of truth to my comment, which was obviously said in jest (don't take everything so seriously please)...just to bother a few of the nice people here.
I did like that picture you sent though.

Court officer accepted a MERCEDES apparently in exchange for laxity in monitoring home detention for family member, son, of the Bob Ross Mercedes dealership. Bob Ross Mercedes dealership.
This may get more interesting. Do the salesman, sales manager, and owners (Bob Ross, Sr.) of the store have culpability in this for helping effect the "donation," or faux sale, and transfer of this vehicle?
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
Sounds reasonable. It's been a long time since I have been marked for an assignment, so I forgot about that little, but important rule.
2017 MB E400 , 2015 MB GLK350, 2014 MB C250
Could you explain that to me again please?
I doubt if there was a misunderstanding, I think the salesman thought it would be easy to take advantage of these senior citizens and they did. They made the $8000 factory incentive sound like it was a dealer discount, and they didn't reduce the price of the car which had miles on it.
How could a dealer claim some of that manufacturer's incentive money? I'd be pretty upset if the dealer kept my manufacturers discount...or did I miss something?
2017 MB E400 , 2015 MB GLK350, 2014 MB C250
A dealer incentive is manufacturer money to the dealer to use as he wishes.
There is a big difference between the two.
Regardless of who the customer is a dealer's job is to make a profit. Now, if the car was advertised at a lower price and they tried to take advantage of a particular customer by charging more, that is illegal and unethical. I have even honored advertising mistakes that cost the dealer money.
A dealer is not obligated in any way to give away ALL profit to a consumer. A dealer is not a non profit charity.
