Nice and balmy down here in the greater Ft. Lauderdale area, feels like around 80 when I took the garbage out a few minutes ago. A bit humid so feels a bit warmer than that. That cool front never came through last night so, no cool weather for us! Shame to, as we've only had two cool snaps this season which does not bode well. But, the tourists love it so at least they're pretty happy right now, sitting by the pool or at the beach.
Our favorite Chinese place is closed today for some odd reason so we'll make due somewhere else. Being a tourist destination, plenty of places open this afternoon as folks gotta be fed. Luckily went shopping so do have food to make if we absolutely must stay home but since I've been in resting the last couple of days, am ready to venture out now.

Anybody get a car for xmas? Ha.

nothing auto related here. I do think, however, the Rover's problem is indeed a pedal switch. I won't call it brake switch since the brakes still work after I removed it. Bench tested it and there is no change in resistance with the button in or out. One coming this week from Amazon for $14. Fingers crossed.

White Christmas in Seattle this year, first time in 9 years. And this year, I am down on the coast, where it is just cold, raw, and damp. D'oh.

Merry Christmas (or anything else you want to celebrate) everyone

Leave it to a Brit company to have all dash electrics go through a brake pedal switch.

Actually, pretty sure my teenage cousin got a used car for Christmas.

Discovered a strange characteristic of the Tahoe on the way back home. It sounded like there was some ice inside one of the doors making noise, so I tried to crack the windows and roll them back up in an attempt to dislodge it. When I lifted up on two windows at a time, it disengaged the cruise control just like I had tapped the brakes. Weird. The voltmeter kept the same reading the whole time, so I doubt it was a voltage drop--maybe on one particular circuit, but not at the alternator.

Bad news on the Mustang’s wonky seatbelt. Normally restraint systems have a longer warranty, but it looks like the previous owner spilled soda or something sticky on it and it gummed up the mechanism, which is the reason it didn’t want to retract. So, $450 parts and labor.  :'(

2017. I like it. A lot. Good power, and I found the drive mode switch and put it in dynamic mode. Tightened everything up.

Even my 79 year old mom liked it. Easy for her to get in and out. Unlike my sisters RX.

It was this one ... after some back and forth the dealer came clean and admitted they were quoting the MF at “tier 3”.  Last quote he got was with the MF mentioned earlier in that thread

So for research purposes, I test drove a 13 E350 Cabriolet recently. A P1 car with the multi-contour seats, Nav, and the funny airscarf system. One owner CPO, 39k miles. This is a very relaxing car to drive; the seats are very good and that top seems better insulated than most hard tops I’ve driven. The AMG appearance pack added the bigger wheels, but ride quality was still good. Top down was brief but nice. Tifighter likey, which must mean I’m getting older. I can’t find much anywhere about the real world reliability of these things, so there’s that.

Sorry to hear about the prior owner of your Mustang spilling something on the seatbelt mechanism I know it’s a bit expensive to replace but now you should be good after this one of my favorite cars next to the one I have now speaking of was having issues with it running horribly after I got it back from the shop putting the new Harley carburetor with electric choke on it only had the car back for three days and they had to fix some defects in the workmanship that they did you should be good to go put in the store there now for a little while and see when I’m going to bring it back home corvette said:

They determined that the carburetor something with it being warped because we rebuilt it and I was warped he said this is a reality he seen it a few times not charging me for anything only going to pay for the new harbor either that’s all
  • tbirdmarcotbirdmarco Member Posts: 3,838
This all started when I had an ex friend of mine rebuild the carburetor for me months ago the first time because I figured he had a little more free time to me and you could help me out unfortunately that didn’t work in my favor but now car should be good to go for the spring

I'm seein' em @ $23.5K to $25.5K asking prices with comparable miles in the SF Bay Area. Highest one I saw was a dealer at $26.5K .
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,654
I'll guess something like that might be in the upper 20s by now? I don't think they have any terrible trouble spots, but you'll always want a PPI.

You should decode the VIN to see what options it really has, if it lacks a window sticker.

Just decoded that BMW VIN - you're right about it being pretty loaded up. Nav, H/K, comfort access, sport package, cold weather, etc. Very nice - I didn't realize those had gotten so inexpensive. Having had the very similar 428 Gran Coupe, I'd certainly recommend it. Of course, I went from that TO a GTI, so what do I know. :)

Ok, so that comes up as a Sport model, which pushes auction value up to $21k. I see 1 owner, no accidents. Price is fair.

We simply need more space. My concern is of course reliability.  Would want to know if I could get some additional BMW warranty on it.

I did do a vin lookup and its nicely equipped although it isn't a P2 or anything. Still, I don't feel like it is missing much for me. Price/miles combo feels pretty competitive to me, plus there's some CPO on it. Carfax is clean.

Without seeing the car, it is a week away from being a 4 year old, off lease, BMW.  Might be worth a look.  If it has THAT many options, maybe the original sticker was $50k.  So it seems right.

It's true - that isn't so great when put like that. Might be better to try and find a 2015...or also look at an A4...

It's listed as a one-owner "corporate vehicle", otherwise clean CARFAX. No particular maintenance records shown. Color is shown as black.

I also think at $23K--ish, it's fair enough.

I’m falling into an all too common pattern when looking at used cars that goes “2014 doesn’t seem that long ago, so it must not be that old!” Reality is exactly what @nyccarguy pointed out - it’s 4 years old!

Having owned the 428 and the GTI back to back, I’d say there wasn’t a significant difference in roominess, so make sure to pay close attention to how it fits your needs in that area.

That’s helpful. For us it’s the trunk space as well as rear seat and it’s ability to carry a car seat plus people and not need/want the SUV. My experience with the A4 is that it is considerably larger inside than the GTI but I’ve heard similar thoughts to yours about the 3er.

I had the same dilemma looking at used cars. The ones hat were getting that old, seemed outdated sometimes. Plus too quickly would get to be actually older, or miled up.

Tech is still evolving pretty fast, a lot of modern looking used cars seem to already be in the "too new to be old, too old to be new" category once you get inside.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,654
2012 is good in that it has the updated more powerful engine. 2013 would see an update to the displays. Too bad it isn't P2, which at the time carried a host of features, some of them very nice to have (keyless go, lighting package, among others). Maybe try to negotiate some extra warranty into it for peace of mind, and it could be a lot of car for the money.

It's remarkable how quick the tech has changed in cars. My '09 Lacrosse had virtually nothing other than a dot-matrix display in the center of the dash that told you a few things - it didn't even have an aux jack for the stereo. My '11 Regal seemed very high tech at the time with Bluetooth for my phone, a center screen that displayed a bunch of stuff, etc. My '14 ATS jumped ahead with wireless music streaming and the functionality that Cadillac Cue brought, and my '17 has all that plus Carplay/Android Auto along with a bunch of safety nannies. In less than 10 years that '09 seems positively ancient.
